It wasnt a ninja nerf. They announced it over and over.
And there are good reasons for them tweaking the rewards. Although, 1 gold for nearly every path so far? Kind of lazy if you ask me.Where have they ever said they were going to change the rewards for ALTs? They only said the new daily gold bonus was going to be account bound and once daily.
No where have they ever said that running the same path with a different toon would yield you less tokens. I have not even seen this implied anywhere.
Yes, account bound.
Read your own words If you have another character on the same account, that falls within the realm of account bound.
They need time. Time to see the obvious…the obvious that the players saw within minutes.
I wouldnt go THAT far. Introduction of Ascended gear still takes the cake for me, although I’ve made my peace with it. Im sure they will re-tweak this. Question is, will it take another two weeks or two months or 6 months?
Depending on how long sprockets are available, Id say this is a decent cost for ports.
Yeah, I dont know what they are thinking here. Its like, they don’t proof read their work or something.
They seriously consider any COE path to be on par with COF p1? Any COE path takes 30-45 minutes to complete depending on your group and in my opinion, path 3 can take longer. Then hop into COF P1 and be done in 10 minutes, get the same gold reward.
You guys say you QA this stuff? Are you sure? Were you asleep?
It wasnt a ninja nerf. They announced it over and over.
And there are good reasons for them tweaking the rewards. Although, 1 gold for nearly every path so far? Kind of lazy if you ask me.
If this is at all accurate, this is a serious fail on arenanets part. So…
1. Determine the fastest 3 or so paths
2. Run them for 1 gold each.
Theres no variation in gold reward. What lazy design is this?
Is there a list, or has almightly dulfy come out with a list of dungeons and their paths with the amount of gold they reward for the daily run-through?
Solution.. Remove zerker gear from the game. And Im serious too. You’ll start to see every other build flourish, more diversity, no more elitism, groups accepting everyone, and more group harmony.
This will make a lot of people angry and drive them to quit the game possibly, but Im dead serious.
@Seras..is yoor gild rekrewting? Because you stole the words from my mouth.
Well said.
Its amazing how people can have polar opposite opinions. I thought the personal story was a good story. The choices you made had little impact. But a good story.
I feel that the living story is so disjointed, unconnected, and if at all very loosely related to eachother.
Where does dulfy get her armor skins? Me thinks she just gets special perks from anet.
@ Atlas and Acidicvision..
What I described was a summation of levels 1-80..I.E. a condensed cliffnotes version.
While I laud your responses, what you have written is a verbose dramatization of the living stories. Each living story arc, or two-week bit has maybe a sentence or two to describe it..for the entire two weeks. For cutthroat politics, for example, all you need to know was the tooltip in the upper right hand corner saying that Gnashblade and Kiel are vying for a council spot and our vote mattered. Thtas it, thats all we needed to know. Thats all we were really told. We were told 4 or 5 things that they would do if elected. And thats it. Nothing about who they are as characters, past or present, experience as a politician, really WHY we should vote for either of them or why we should care…like..why should I have cared about the zephrytes? And who really are they in the first place? Barely any explanation about all of this, but a two sentence paraphrase every two weeks.
So while I condensed 80 levels of personal story, you expanded a few story arcs that, at the time of their existance in the game, were told in two sentences or less.
Just trying to point out the quality of story then, to what is now. Pointing out the quality of activity then to what is now.
cesmode… after that, don’t you think you’ve deserved a bit of a break? We’re still having to deal with a new pirate faction and things less dramatic than the Elder Dragons, but they’re still there, we know they’re still there, and they know we know they’re still there, so enjoy a bit of less-dramatic “down time”.
But stay frosty… the threats are still out there.
No way man. Im a reporting analyst by profession. I write code and number crunch. When i get home, I want to slay dragons. I want to bring giants to their knees. I want to save entire continents from destruction. I want to help those farmers out again by participating in new events.
And “Who can punt the asura off the cliff the farthest” would be a great mini game, but please..oh please ENOUGH! Real content!
In the interest of avoiding neverending quotes…:p
@vol: Instead of being bored and restless for 6 months, we are annoyed and restless =) I suppose pick your poison.
Overall, however, I am going to finish map completion on my first character within the next few days. I am going to try to go after all of the jumping puzzles(I have maybe 7 or 8 left). I already got the mystic forge pistols Lyss and Ilya, along with the cosmetic look for my thief. I will continue with Dailys for a little while, and complete only what I need to with this next living story arc in order to receive the maximum rewards. After that, I must decide:
1. Try new builds on my other level 80s and devote some focus to them as a new “main”.
2. Immerse myself in WvW <— I can totally do this. But…not sure I want to just yet.
3. Stay logged out of GW2 and pursue other games (Neverwinter, Firefall, Borderlands 2, Warframe..) until meaningful content is added to Gw2.
One of those three scenarios will play out within the next month…definately by summers end.
I dare not click on that link while I am at work.
I suspect a rick-roll.
But seriously, after all of that..we have tokens, dress up, and mini games.
what else?
Did you completely forget or did you choose to ignore all the previous updates where we had to kill stuff?
You know, Karka, molten mobs, aetherblade pirates, that sort of thing?
Karka I’ll give you.
But aetherblades appeared ocassionally when you had to hunt holograms. Ooh…fun.
And you’re talking about temporary dungeons that lasted 2 weeks. It wasn’t an immersive story that involved us wandering Tyria and noticing pirates everywhere, slaughtering centaurs, and pillaging asuran outposts. Instead they materialized out of thin air as we played duck-duck-goose with holograms (something we spent the previous 2 weeks doing for taffy). Where were the Aetherblade DEs? The Molten DEs?Pretty much this, in response to your question Vol. It wasnt substantial real combat. Ocassionally a small pack of pirates. Ocassionally you stumble on some charr coming out of a portal.
To this end, Southsun was probably the most significant real content we received. Even though it promoted karma trains, you had people completing dynamic events..DYNAMIC EVENTS! Champion mobs, Karka queens. Karka invading towns, and we have to hold locations to spawn the queen. These things that are everywhere in the game, except in most of these mini patches.
Granted, southsun is as empty as it was. But lets be honest, its the only patch this year that has had real combat/content with dynamic events.
Southsun is an entire zone. It is unreasonable to expect such a thing to happen every 2 weeks. Same with new dragons or insane new monsters. Do that every 2 weeks and you simply don’t have enough monsters left to drive forward the lore and the game.
I want epic content just as much as you guys but you need to realistic. Stuff like that takes time and sometimes you need to prolong content so that you don’t run out of it.
We as GW2 players are spoiled as kitten. Other games like Rift, when I played it during release, we had zero content updates until several months later. Even Aion didn’t have anything special added until they had the expansions.
I agree with you.. takes time and is un realistic for a 2 week update schedule. But then maybe we shouldnt have 2 week updates.
Instead of pouring resources into the fluffy stuff we have been given, maybe devote more of THOSE resources to the real content that drives MMOs. The game is nearing a year old, with many updates and improvements that have been made for sure. But I would rather trade this living story 2 week schedule for a two month schedule of true content updates. Or even a 3 month schedule.
But, we can still just play mini games I guess, in the mean time. Belchers bluff anyone?
Because I created a character in an MMO with skills and abilities to play minigames.
(not trying to be a kitten but trying to make a point. Forgive me if I sound insulting)
Edit: But Rift adopted an insanely awsome real content update schedule. They pumped so much into that game, so much real stuff. Systems, features, game modes…(not mini games). They created a GREAT reputation for doing so.
Sadly, I fear GW2 is getting an adverse reputation.

See if you can understand what I am trying to say here.
Once upon a time.. I created a sylvari thief. Painstakingly, I selected his ear shape, glow, hair style, eye shape….skin/bark tone, height, weight, body size. I ventured out of the nightmare and into this world called Tyria. I battled a corrupt sylvari who was terrorizing initiates of sorts.
Through my adventures I met other high and noble sylvari, and together we vanquished the world of risen, krait, dragons and disgruntled humans and Charr. Through partnering with organizations such as the Vigil, and battling along side a noble Norn warrior who ultimately sacrifices his life so that my self and injured Lionguard can escape a dragon attack, we press on. We took the fight to Zhaitan after that day. That glorious and heroic day.
Onto the beahces of Orr we stormed. Defeating Mouths and Eyes of Zhaitan, ghouls and champion undead. I slashed my way through armies of risen, conquering temples, defeating giants. Explosions, dying comrades, living comrades still bound together through the might of battle. We press on.
Aboard a mighty skyship, laced with Asuran and Charr ingenuity, we carve our way through Zhaitans forces. Defeating monstrosities and unfathomable foes whose very existance corrupted Orr, that which once was a lush land of the living. We press on.
Clinging to a spire of sorts, we fire cannons, repeatedly at the beast. Until his grip along the spire wilted, and fell to the ground. We smelt his ruin from above. We retreated to our cities. Triumphant. Heroes. Celebrations all around.
As one of the mighty heroes of Tyria suggested… there are more dragons to face, more battles to be fought. But for today, we are victorious.
…
I’ll leave you to continue the story… where did our adventures take us after the focus on personal story and Orr? Where has the story and lore been taken to? What hav ewe been doing compared to everything you just read?
(edited by cesmode.4257)
Dislike:
-Living Story
-More Minigames added than actual content
-Lack of real-world threat
-Zerker Elitists
-Empty mid-high level zones
-Events that respawn after a few minutes (ex. troll in queensdale). And didnt Ree in the almighty manifesto say something that this should not happen?
-Lack of added zones
-Lack of meaningful substantial content
-Lack of solo-duo mini dungeons
Support:
-solo/mini dungeons
-more zones, and DEs
-more personal story
-more abilities and skills
-less mini games
-less living story
Really curious if these zerker-elitists think that “speedrunning” CoF P1 in ..9 minutes, 10, is way more profitable than 15.
You’ll get 2 more runs in an hour. 1.5 gold? Eh, maybe worth it..maybe not. Depends who you ask. But I don’t think these elitists are racking in 5+ gold more than the regular group that finishes in 15. So to me, you guys are funny =)
This is obviously pre-todays patch.
My name is Cesmode and I approve this thread.

I.E. I agree with the OP 110%

Election was a neato thing to add. I liked the concept of it. I did like the aspect arena, surprisingly. Obviously the dungeons that were removed were nice. Even though the southsun event promoted karma/champ farming, it was at least real content to play.
Most everything else is purely fluff to me. In my humble opinion, everything else has done little to progress the game. And if this is where we are headed, its a sad state of affairs.
This is purely talking about content updates..not things like wallet and dungeon revamps.
Warning: This is an opinion thread. You can disagree, but it is my opinion.
I don’t even know where to begin. First, I’ll say the wallet and PVE culling is good. I am pleased with a lot of the “quality of life” improvements that are being made to the game with each patch. I feel they are needed and finally getting some attention.
But I ask my fellow forum-goers…how do you feel about all of these themed-updates?
In my opinion, the content being put into the game is abysmal. Call it “free abysmal content”. Where are the threats to Tyria that we must use the skills we have to defeat them? You know, those buttons and abilities we have used for 80 levels? Things like Death Blossom, or Heart Seeker? Where are the enemies to kill that actually pose a threat to the world? Where is the content that is not just a list of achievement check boxes for a mini at the end of the rainbow?
Yes, some of these updates are fun and neat-o for a while. But really, did you create a character in an MMO, with abilities and skills to kill things, just so you can play minigames that replace your skill bar anyways? Or to click on objects in the world? Is this why you play an MMO? Role playing, and interacting in a living world is definately important, I agree. But I also feel that we should be defeating enemies of value and purpose. Things that have meaningful ties to story and lore, and that we feel a sense of accomplishment once they are killed(no, I am not speaking of loot).
Where are the dragons? Where are the gods(besides chillin’ in abandoned Orr). Wheres the REAL combat, the REAL content?
Yet another patch, another fantastic and lovely living story update with beautiful bunnies and confetti. Yet another patch with no substantiated or meaningful content, or content that we can go out and see in Tyria, conquer and have a meaningful impact on the game. They say it is coming, but in the mean time…it is patch after patch of festivels, mini games, fireworks, celebrations, RNG…NOTHING that likens to a traditional MMO. I know this is not a traditional MMO, but it should have some traditional updates, like REAL content.
The content that is being given to us is all dessert. Wheres the meat and potatos?
You arent a very rich man are you?
lol, i took that screen shot on my first character without rotating through my 12 alts.
I only have 22g atm tho
just bought a precursor for the moot a few days back
Good luck on the legendary journey my friend. I personally out-right refuse to give a player hundreds of gold for any reason (unless I find a precursor I dont want, sell that and buy the one I do want at no expense to me). I’ll either find my precursor out of RNG, scavenger hunt, or never.
Ive made my peace with that.
I hate dulfy’s site. She and her website are immortalized as the go to reference for GW2. It also takes all player-thought and adventure out of the game once you use her guides.
Choice is up to the player to use them, but why are you playing the game if you follow a guide? Isn’t part of the premise of an MMO, or even more specific THIS MMO to be an adventure. How is it an adventure if you are following a picture-guide on a website on how to complete an achievement or jumping puzzle?
Yah, to what are you referring?
Up until a week or so ago, I had around 120 laurels.
Just have no urge to spend them. Not dropping 30 or 40 laurels + 50 ectos on gear… I COULD buy some rare gear and salvage, or unid dies and sell or try my luck for some good colors. But Im holding out in the hopes that arenanet throws some good stuff in there.
Question: The crystals that are purchased from Miyanni near the mystic forge…are they now not soulbound, and rather account bound and in the wallet? Or are they still in the bank.
You arent a very rich man are you?
Haha nice. I tried to solo her this weekend myself…I tried only once because I was in the area. failed.
How to keep her little bishis from healing her? Just focus them down quick?
Seems they forgot to add Pristine Fractal Relics to the new wallet system.
While they should add them… did they at least add the regular relics? Those are the things taking up quite a few spots in my bank. And I have 0 use for them.
I dropped nearly 200 tokens on the vote.
I guess I am a little annoyed at this. Not because my fellow players might have a few extra gold than I because of this, but because its yet another illogical decision by arenanet.
They are trying balance out for the folks that didnt vote and that didnt put their say into the vote. I dont think its “fair” and they should just revert it or whatever, but its not a huge deal to be honest. Is it really impacting your fun experience?
For me, this is getting funny, however. I left WoW because over time I disagreed with their design decisions(over the course of a year or so). I left Tera because I disagreed with theirs. I have been disagreeing with arenanets development direction for a while now, and I can see where this might end up toward the end of the year. All of these little things are starting to add up. Lack of REAL content/combat/lore/personal story in favor of ‘flavor of the month’ mini games, achievements, and one-sentence story telling.
How about the spider boss in…jeez the zone with Muldor centaur dude…The spider that gets healed by the little spiders that spawn?
I want to say Harathi Highlands…
Anyone know what champ Im talking about?
They make the game. I don’t see why they can’t just make the abbadon fractal at a later time after the thaumanova one.
They will. Im betting my miniscule paycheck on it.
Where did you read this?
Can you sell support tokens on TP?
Im…in the middle. When GW2 released, I despised the trinity. After playing some MMOs with it, some recent MMOs, I began to miss the trinity.
In most GW2 boss fights, its every man for themselves, dodge for yourself, heal yourself and revive the ocassional downer. Chaotic and self serving until someone goes down.
The trinity provides more of a group collaboration.
Not sure where I stand on this.
I read a few of the posts in this thread. Is this entire thread all about the manifesto + personal story? Or about the manifesto as a whole?
All that Ive heard are that you will be able to purchase skills via skillpoints.
Hopefully its the same method as we did during leveling…no real “trees”.
If they did trees, it would be terrible, but just more of the ‘same ole’…making the game less of a gem and more run of the mill.
Just sayin that if any change was implemented, I did not notice any difference. If it is a difference of 20 copper, I really dont care.
Official word on this would be nice.
Hi,
Since the voting has ended, why have support tokens continued to drop? When I see that box drop, oo wow a Rare or maybe..just maybe =)..but no its a support token.
Hi,
When do reduced waypoint costs take into effect?
Waypoint travel still costs as much as it did before.
(edited by cesmode.4257)
TBH I think arenanet is pushing GW2 down a slope they cannot navigate. They’ve pumped so many rewards and reward systems into the game in such a short time, so many carrots and rewards to chase after…that all they can do is lure is around the game with rewards.
I say this because if they said that champs in queensdale only drop zone level-appropriate stuff, and no chance at high lvl stuff, no level 80s would bother going there anymore.
Its funny…Because of games like WoW, we have been trained many years to gear grind and run on that treadmill. That is the legacy WoW leaves behind. Im beginning to think that Gw2’s legacy will be that of constant reward. Gone are the days where you play just because the game is fun. If theres no carrot, the rabbit doesn’t come out. If there is no worthwhile reward for a level 80 to revisit a zone like queensdale, we wont go.
So they must give us the chance at level appropriate stuff.
I love the “combat is shallow” argument. What they’re really saying is “I only have to manage 1 bar and not 38943 of them with convoluted and unneeded skills and bloat.”
Basically, GW and GW2 get rid of the bloat and streamlines combat. It’s optimal and one of the best I’ve ever dealt with.
Im not saying that at all. You can accomplish good combat with only a few buttons. Boss mechanics and class mechanics work into it. Autoattacking until a mob is dead, maybe pressing another button isnt very engaging.
I wish there was more of a reason to use combo fields while leveling. There really isnt any reason to do so. You really can kill a mob with one or two buttons, without getting into combo fields.
Arent the new skills that are coming out this year going to be purchasable via skill points?
Save them bud.
Up until we can use them for something other than mystic forge recipes or legendaries , they are utterly useless once you have all of your skills.
Your english is better than my…<insert language here>
Good enough
If guilds are sincere in recruiting quality people that are the right fit for THEIR guild, rather than meeting a quota or just padding their numbers, yah I think they would appreciate a more personalized approach. Spamming the message to every LFG in site says one thing about most guilds: they dont care who the person is they are trying to lure in, they just want numbers. Whether or not that person is an actual fit for the guild comes second. And if a guild leader cannot bother to read that the person looking for a guild DOESNT want to transfer, and he/she spams their message anyways, I mean..is that a guild people really want to join? But I digress..
Im trying to find a small friendly casual tight-knight group, maybe even one that is semi-exclusive to ensure all of that.
Good luck to you.
(edited by cesmode.4257)
Aren’t champ rewards just once per day per champ? That makes camping them kind of pointless, doesn’t it?
That still is a stupid system. Another thing to check off..
Daily done? Check.
Quartz regarge? Check
Easiest daily champs? Check
I was thinking about this very topic yesterday on the way home from work. Combat in GW2 is a step up from the traditional standstill tab target. But it isnt a great combat system. It has serious potential like the rest of the game, but it isnt great. You can get by with just mashing 1 or 2 buttons. Some classes you just put all 5 abilities on cooldown and then auto attack.
I compared it to something like WoW…
On my boomkin in WoW, I would run up to a mob and tab target, put two dots on it, spam one button till dead…standing still.
In GW2, I’ll run up to a mob and tab target, death blossom two or 3 times and target is dead. Or Unload 2 or 3 times, and target is dead.
With the invent of combo fields, this can make combat SO interesting, but levels 1-80, you dont need to do much else for most professions other than one or two buttons like any other game.
I would give this combat system a solid 7/10, 10 being something like Tera or Neverwinter.
