Are there plans to add more items to purchase with laurels? Skins? Anything?
I think the rewards themselves are just fine. I made 15 gold yesterday for cracking 5k. Leet! I do think they went overboard with the amount of badges of honor. I never have to step foot in WvW if I wanted to go for my legendary. I think I have like..1500+ badges now?
Anyways, the rewards themselves are good. But I think people are more concerned with getting more achievements than actually enjoying the game and forging an adventure now. People are checking off boxes more than ever, instead of simply playing. I dont see this as a positive thing. This is, yet again, another carrot dangling in front of our face. There are too many carrots. The solution: Bring all content and their reward systems on par with eachother and provide the same stuff. All dynamic events, world bosses, map completions, jumping puzzle chests…have all of that stuff reward the same things. In my opinion: Remove a lot of the current reward systems like laurels, and have everything purchasable via karma or in game currency.
Hi,
So, what do you guys think about renown hearts? Would you like a new zone full of renown hearts (ofcourse also riddled with dynamic events and such) ? Or even add renown hearts to South Sun.
Thoughts?
There’s a lot of things to do, but strangely a lot of it is unnecessary stuff. That’s the thing with GW2. For better or worse, there is no real necessary level of completion. I guess the options are… PvP, WvW, legendary weapons, events, alts, or living/personal story. Not bad for a game less than a year old. Question is, what do you enjoy doing?
Personally, I’m picking and choosing between guild events, dragons, farming, and personal story… with some WvW and alt leveling here and there. Its nice to let real life dictate an MMO for once, instead of the other way around.
This pretty much sums it up. Once you are 80, everything is unnecessary. You dont need to farm for anything, you dont need to do dailys for laurels. You dont need to do WvW if you dont like it. You dont need to grind for a legendary if you dont want to. You dont need to run the Orr events, or dragon farm. You dont need to do any of this stuff in order to stay “powerful” and on par with most everyone else. It is both a positive and negative. Positive in that your stats will always be as powerful as everyone else, provided you get exotic or ascended gear. Negative in that…after a while, youre doing an event and you wonder “why am I here…this will not impact the world, this will not progress my character anymore”. 9/10 things at “end game” in GW2 are inconsequential. Do them or not, who cares, it makes little difference to the game or to your personal progression.
On the other hand, since giving up my legendary grinding, Ive begun enjoying the game a bit more. I still have a reserved distaste for the direction the game heads in and how I personally believe that Arenanet abandoned core principles of the game. But, I trek on… Im 85% done with map completion myself, so almost there. Working on some Mystic Forge weapon recipes. Completed the monthly yesterday, completed cutthroat politics yesterday, I’ll complete Bazaar today. After all of this…maybe I’ll turn my focus to my mesmer and look to make her my new “main”. Or, rebuild my guardian for support and see how that is for a few days or weeks. Or, level that engi or ele that Ive always wanted to.
I dont think this game will keep me playing for months on end, anymore..since everything that I do is no means to no end. Its done for the joy of it which is good! But eventually, you feel like youre wasting your time doing meaningless things. So I’ll probably be bouncing around between GW2 and Neverwinter…GW2 and Firefall. GW2 and Defiance. Until, that is, Arenanet wises up…makes the necessary improvements to the game such as dungeon revamp to make all dungeon paths viable, difficult, worthwhile…interesting mechanics. Until they put some sort of LFG tool into the game. Until theres a Scavenger hunt. Until there are more zones with new renown hearts to complete or more personal story. I want real traditional content. Living story is good, but gets stale, old, and I check off boxes more than have fun. I want more traditional content to keep me playing for months, or years.
One thing you could look into are the portal’d areas. Areas in the open world only accessible via portal or key.
-There is one in Dreadgehaunt where you need a dwarven key to enter. It is also a mini dungeon with some very very interesting things and mechanics inside…can be quite difficult at times, with a boss at the end and a chest. (about 40 minutes to complete)
-There is one in mount maelstrom which has a lot of jumping puzzle mechanics. (about 40 minuts to complete)
-I just found another yesterday in Lorner’s Pass, randomly, with more jumping puzzle mechanics and some other things going on.
I hope there are more — these tucked away areas are what makes this game worth exploring. Love it.
What they need is a skin locker. All skins that you have acquired go into “inventory”..when ever you want to use that skin, you can use it at the cost of a transmute stone and maybe some karma or something. Similar to the achievement window with the achievement skins.
You know what ruined MMOs for me?
Going back and playing the old games on emulated or restarted servers. Once I tried to go back to some of those old systems I realized just how much my games had changed over the years.
. . . also, that Minecraft with enough mods tacked on can do anything except curved walls/floors.
Ugh I know to each his own…but minecraft..I’ll never understand why people are in love with that.
Ive got a RL buddy…hes stuck to WoW like flies to poop. Old cartoony graphics. He says “I dont care about graphics…never have”. He played minecraft for a while, and I poked fun at him…he says “I dont care about graphics”. When I started playing Firefall, he joined me for a few hours and said “I dont like the graphics…” lol.
Thanks for all this feedback.
I guess for me, I like to be able to play A game for as long as I like which I found I couldn’t do with other mmo’s.
Once again I will use DC Universe as an example.
When starting off in DC Universe, the storyline and gameplay is terrific. However, when that ends you are pretty much forced to do instances and such with other people.
Here is where the problem begins with that system. EVERYONE has to play their role in order to advance. Well, everyone would not always play their role as they should which would result in huge in game arguments which would pretty destroy the mission you all were doing. Now when I say, PLAY YOUR ROLE this meant the healer would have to heal, the controller would have to give power, and the tank and dps would have to, well you get the idea. If one of these roles weren’t played correct, the mission is null and void.
I have yet to run into that playing GW2 because there are no specific roles. You don’t have to depend on a healer to stay alive. People can’t leave you hanging as easy as I have noticed in other mmo’s like, Yes you guessed it, DC Universe.
If DC Universe took on the same game mechanics as GW2, the game would be just as great.
Well, unfortunately this game does not have any defined roles. Before purchasing, you should have done research into the game and realize that you can complete any with any class or build. You can complete any dungeon with 5 thieves, or 5 zerker warriors, or 5 support guardians. It might take a while, one way or the other, but it won’t necessarily be painful or difficult.
You form in some survivability based on what YOU need. If you are the player that goes down a lot, take out some of the dmg and replace with some survivability. Build in some group support. My warrior is wearing Knights gear, but using a ‘zerker spec and weapons. The knight’s gear gives me the little bit of added survivability that I need so I don’t go down in one punch.
Hi,
So twice now, Ive completed what I think is the full jumping puzzle, I have not gotten the achievement for the puzzle. Ive been trying to go for the kites (griffon and pig iron…both where uncompleted puzzles for me), I completed it..got to the chest, got to the kite…but no completion for the puzzle.
Bug?
The combat in Rift is the worst. The amount of content and things to do trumps any game, however.
GW2 ruined questing in other games for me, aside from Neverwinter…was actually fun in that game too.
Gw2’s world ruined all other worlds for me because GW2’s world is a stud.
Im posting before reading..
WoW ruined MMOs.
Edit: Ok, after reading… Well, GW2 opened up the exploration factor, the gorgeous landscape, dynamic content, and the attempt at horizontal progression even though the game leads more toward grind and gear grind these days. I wouldnt say it ruined other MMOs for me, but I look at other Free to play games, like Neverwinter and I see large differences like the quality of movement and smoothness, things like that. A game like neverwinter which is completely free to download and play, has no barriers in terms of $$. Bank space gets annoying, but it does in this game too. Other than that, you must accept that neverwinter is a different style game: Heavily instanced, mini dungeons, awsome awsome mobs. Other free 2 play games have their own nichés so I don’t think that gw2 ruined it. But when I play these games, they dont compare with the gorgeous landscape and exploration factor…

They probably quit the game. I hope to see the day vayne is alone with the other 10 fanboys in lions arch doing belchers bluff and saying its the greatest thing ever.
Laugh all you want. My guild numbers are up. Not a huge guild but I’m happy with our 115 members….and yes, quite a few of us are very active.
I love people who think they don’t like a game so the game isn’t doing well. Two, three years from now, you’ll still be singing the same song.
And it won’t have any more truth to it then.
You realize your guild numbers are going up is because other guilds are dying right? This game is hemorrhaging dedicated players. It’s not new players joining, it’s old players consolidating.
I wouldnt necessarily say that… while I do think arenanet needs to focus their development on more core aspects of an MMO, they do have a large active playerbase. Yes, they lost a ton of people so far…a ton. But, if that article in the general forums is any accurate, they have 2.5 mil active players per week. Thats probably #2 mmo in terms of activity and is something to beat your chest to. No mmo will come close to WoW in terms of active players, and once wow falls from greatness, no game will reach those peaks again. Why? So many MMOs and innovative MMOs such as this one, and even the likes of firefall and neverwinter..
its legitimate farming i swear!
Hahahaha. Shhh..
What I really miss was the Karma train in Orr for the first few weeks. Made it lively.
“Wheres the train”…now that train is in queensdale!
I hate the nerf that has been done to Orr. I love the old Orr, pre Lost Shore patch. After Anet nerfed Orr, I stopped farming.
But I have learned to move on, and find something else to while my time in the game. I decided to build a guild that aims to help members. It is not farming, but fun for me, coz I get to help old and new players reach their goal.
I like how they thinned out the mobs, but there isnt a whole lot of reason to go to orr and play the game other than ancient wood and orichalcum…and the ocassional boss chest, but thats it. I stay out of there. Pent/Shelt nerfs left Orr an undesirable place to be for lvl 80s.
Now it is up to the COF farm to get any sort of reward, and quickly.
I also think that successful completion of a Dynamic Event needs to be reworked. Who the hell cares about karma? Its utterly useless unless you are going after a legendary, which is most likely a small % of the community. If you’re level 80, XP is nearly useless. You get 2-3 silver. Why bother with these events? For the drops..we run them for the drops and when we find a nice drop rate, it gets nerfed.
Fix the reward system for dynamic events. Ive mentioned this a lot lately in these forums…but I look to firefall as a great example…hear me out:
In firefall you have three main important things: XP, Crystite(in game currency) and resources(iron, carbon, methane gas, silicate, toxins, etc..run of the mill crap used for crafting).
These three things are used for character progression, crafting(which is enormously important…its one of the cornerstones of the game), etc. Everything that you gain from completing events is useful. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING is a waste. Nada. Everything is useful. This makes doing any event in the game worthwhile because you know you are getting ALL useful rewards at the end. Not just one useful reward, everything. You need it all. Am I making the point clear? You need a lot of resources, a lot of crystite, a lot of XP to do anything in the game. So playing any part of the game is rewarding.
In GW2, they seriously need to adjust these reward tables. I dont care if I complete an event or not. I don’t need karma, I dont need XP, and 2 silver means squat to me.
I gave up on my legendary hunt. If I get a precursor or scavenger hunt enables me to continue, Ill slowly work toward it but to be honest..my entire mission for a legendary burnt me out on the game entirely which contributed toward my negativity of the game. However, some criticism and negativity of the game and its design direction is not unjustified. Constant mini games, constant crap in the game that has barely had any impact on the actual world or any of the lore of Guild Wars is kitten poor design. Dungeon updates, scavenger hunt, fix the condition build problems…more skins that arent tied to RNG. These are things people want. More zones. I dont want to spend eternity in these mini games going after achievements.
With that said, my gameplay has been a mixed bag of map completing (in the event I am enabled to go after a legendary again), living story achievements, and some WvW. Its been more enjoyable I must say. But again, these are all “filler” things to enjoy. Not an “end” which is I guess what the game shouldnt have, but would be nice if there were more difficult things to do, that do not require you to group up and rely on other people. I really long for the day of difficult solo dungeons, or 1-2 people dungeons. Or make the dynamic events scale more effectively with the # of people, make them more impactful on the surrounding zone, and worth while. I see people farming champs in queensdale for no other reason than achievements, dailys, and monthlys. Id like to be able to run around in Timberline Falls, one of my favorite zones, and still see a ton of people. But, the beast of the community finds the most efficient route in the game, ala queensdale, and farms that into oblivion.
I propose: Instead of mini games, try making each zone worth playing in. Not just the 3 or 4 champion events in queensdale. Revamp the dungeons to make all paths viable(In the pipe, I know). Make the boss mechancis, open world and dungeon, more interesting. Make ALL builds viable..enough of this zerker party crap. These are things that MUST happen to this game. Im getting so sick of fluff mini games(even though they are somewhat fun). But ultimately, it adds NOTHING to the game. I just finished my last sanctum sprint for the achievement and I will not run that infernal thing again.
More content, less games.
More content, less circus. Less carnival.
So they DO play necromancers!! Haha!
Can’t live without double tap.
Times I survived thanks too double tap = millions
Times I died/fell down in JP becouse of butterfingers/double tap = two… Ah okay Three
This
Why press Z and direction when I can hit the same button twice in under a second. Less brain activity needed.
Well Ive been at it for a few days straight now, and I am at 11/16 with bazaar and 5/6 with cutthroat. And that is pretty much only focusing on the achievements because I started late.
Sooo, unless I complete the 16 bazaar achievements, I wont get charged thingamabobs in my home instance..the only way would be to collect 25 and charge them via place of power. So if you logged into the game a few weeks late, you are penalized for it by possibly not being able to complete the necessary achievements to have the node delivered to your instance, which will be required in the new ascended gear crafting.
So one cannot just take a break from the game and come back to play like nothing happened. You ARE slightly behind… I thought arenanet was against that. Kthxgg.
Im rushing to complete my achievements and THAT is annoying.
What about the achievements to get the minis, the charged quartz in home instance, etc? Do I have until the 6th or will I be able to complete these at my leisure?
When does bazaar of four winds end and when does my ability to complete the achievements for quartz to be delivered to my home instance end?
Will things like the race and the parachute baskets go away anytime soon? Should I be rushing to complete this?
Hahahaha.
/15 char
where did this thread come from.
I use double tap. I cant be bothered to hit another key and the direction I want to go.
And this is why having 50 thousand sub forums is bad… :p
Any idea when it ends?
Hi,
How much longer do I have to complete the achievements for Bazaar of the four winds?
My proposal: The game deciphers those individuals whom have the highest condition damage from gear and their build, and prioritizes their stacks over someone that is zerker specced whom happens to be able to throw up 5 or 6 stacks of a bleed doing inconsequential damage.
So basically you’re asking the game to have precognition. I am pretty sure that’s impossible.
Erm no. Not sure if you know what precognition means. Im not asking it to predict the future. Im pretty sure it can distinguish which player has more condition damage. After all, a lot of bossses in the game determine hate/threat based on toughness. This is a widely accepted notion about how aggro works. So by the same means, Im sure it can figure out who has more condi damage.
Hi,
A thought just occurred to me. Condition damage, as it is now, is currently..a bit kitten. Bleeds and burns cap rather quickly and if you are condition specced, you feel semi useless.
My proposal: The game deciphers those individuals whom have the highest condition damage from gear and their build, and prioritizes their stacks over someone that is zerker specced whom happens to be able to throw up 5 or 6 stacks of a bleed doing inconsequential damage.
So if player A is condition specced and Player B is not…the game will overwrite player B’s bleed stacks with my bleed stacks since they are more powerful.
Thoughts?
I always felt a little tickle inside my throat when I played my necro.
That is a pretty cool trailer, especially the end.
You guys make good points…LA has it all. But again I ask the question, why develop the other cities at all? Why develop them at all when you will have a different city with everything the player needs plus more, and then over the course of the year make this city the pinnacle of content.
The only reason I can see that arenanet developed other cities is to give low level players a place to go. Thats about it.
i think because all the other cities are too confusing.
also they don’t have mystic forge.
in divinity’s reach to run from trading post to crafting station you also have to go down a layer. the blac citadel for me is the ugliest place ever created in an mmo.
LA, the grove, fields of ruin ebonhawk vanguard outpost and wvwvw home borderlands, are better suited for crafting and selling, i use to go to do all my stuff in fields of ruin also because the loading time is shorter, while in LA take ages, and i rarely use the mystic troll.
but overall LA is the best place to be and people all gather around the bank and the mystic forge so it’s also easy to spot someone you know and inviting people to group
Good points..actually.
People gather in LA, like Tiberius said, because a lot of the living story arcs and all of the holiday events take place, for the most part, in LA…or LA has some part in it.
Curious to hear what other think as well.
My question is: Why go through the trouble of creating other main cities only to completely ignore them and throw everyone into one city? Waste of Dev effort. Blizzard did the same thing when they made Stormwind/Org the main hubs. All other cities were abandoned. They realized this and admitted they screwed up.
Yet there are still more people in the unpopular WoW cities than in the unpopular GW2 cities.
Making Stormwind/Orgrimmar the main cities was smart of them though. Those two cities were large and had everything you could ever need. I’m guessing Blizzard did it because there weren’t enough people to spread into all cities so they made those two cities. I’m guessing that’s the reason for Anet too, because they don’t have enough people to spread throughout all cities. Why Anet made LA the main city though, I will never know. It’s smaller than a lot of the other cities, which makes no sense at all.
I disagree with all of that, unfortunately. I think WoW servers had something like 5k+ people for each faction. For two expansions, the populations were spread across all cities pretty decently. Stormwind, Ironforge…not bad. If Arenanet thought the same, then why design the other cities at all?
What have you been drinking IRL?
crappy economic beer.
So I after gaining every karma buff I can find, I consumed all of the karma pots I had and came up with almost 500k.
Having a drinking party opening Orrian boxes(and reconsuming those karma pots).
I am also watching a DS9 episode at the same time. I suspect I’ll be done with the boxes before the episode is over.

Why do you suppose main cities, other than Lion’s arch and maybe divinities reach, are largely empty?
I’m kind of in an odd place with my characters. I like the characters in terms of appearance and class, but I am almost eternally dissatisfied with their build. I always want to try out something new. The more I play a character the more I want to tinker with it.
And go for it. Once I am done map completion on my Thief, which will be this weekend, one of my focuses will be finding a new love..I have 5 80s…maybe muck with some other classes and less-popular builds. There was a thread around here about berserker builds being all thats needed. We are probably nearing that scenario, unfortunately. But I would not let that stop me from building a complete support guardian or something.
I know some people arent done with their story, but we are almost a year into the game. Id guess a good majority of the playerbase has completed the main story with at least one character. Time to continue it IMO, and theres been no whisper of doing so.
People who haven’t completed their story and have been playing for a long time have probably won’t finish. In 8 months I have not completed my “personal story” once, and I have no intention of doing so unless they “force” me to. (By force I mean make the reward so compelling that I do it even though I don’t like it.)
And that is completely fine. There are many people that have completed theirs in the last 11 months, some people have done it on several characters. We are anxious to continue it. So by adding more personal story, it wouldnt impact people like you who have no interest in it, and thats fine.
Its just a bit unnerving to realize that they havent even whispered anything about this when it was such a large part of the leveling process, at least for most people.

Id say a year is more than enough time to give people that even joined the game a few months ago to complete their story. If people have not completed it by now, they are not too interested in doing so and therefor more story would not impact their experience much anyways.
The character is born as a hero who later becomes a member of an Order and gets promoted so that at the end he/she become a simple filler in a big army with some to no responsibilities at all who kills the huge dragon threat spamming skill No 1.
What do we do now? Living Story. So we dropped from The Hero of… to Mr. Nobody in 80 levels
This is a first in all my RPG games playing history.
Interesting way of putting it but yeah, you are right. Ive mentioned this in another thread I believe. We spend so much time in personal story and marketing was touting the personal story. We kill this big dragon who was unstoppable. And then…
then…
we got pirates
and karka
and..sky people.
and some disgruntled flame/frost..and there COULD be some invisible hand guiding all of this..but we have no idea.
Where are the dragons? Wheres the dreadful threat to the world?
They shouldn’t close when…
C’mon, the suspense is killing me.
Lol I know hahahaa
They shouldn’t close…when…what? Im lost!
Did you hear about the new Giants linebacker? Yea he just got the new shoulder-pads, and hes a norn.
:)
My main is sylvari thief. I like his look, I spent painstaking hours tweaking him before launch. I think I am satisfied with him. As for others…not sure. I do not like my Norn Guardian. I think Id rather have another sylvari or Human. I kind of like my human necro…I ehhh kind of like my human warrior. I like my sylvari mesmer, although the run of the mill asura mesmer would have been nice too.
Youll need something like 500k or so for your legendary if you go for one. Or buy some of the Orr sets. Other than that, not a lot of use for them. You can purchase Orrian jewel boxes from a karma vendor in orr, lot of neat stuff in there. Thats probably where Im going to spend mine. Between all of the consumable karma pots, Im probably sitting on..almost a 500k karma? I’ll get some beer tonight and maybe go nuts and open a few thousand orrian boxes.
Other than that, karma is kind of useless.
Its funny, the core of this game is its dynamic event system and for completing these events you obtain XP(which you dont need a lot at 80), gold(you get a few silver…peanuts in the grand scheme of what you need), and karma(a useless currency if you arent going for legendary).
They need to make completing events more worthwhile…For example, in firefall…if you complete events you get a bit of every currency(resources are a currency) and every currency is involved in every aspect of the game. Resources(mats) are involved in crafting which is ENORMOUS in that game, ingame currency which is involved in character progression, XP which is involved in character progression. EVERYTHING is useful. So doing any event is worth your time because youre getting everything, even the little 2 minute ones.
Ive had maybe one key off a random drop since launch, over 1000 hours in. I have over 160 chests. Ive purchased maybe 10 keys off the gem store, and received maybe two or three from map completions and from opening chests themselves.
Consider yourself lucky so far
I dont think it will have a lot of impact.
But we are 11 months into the game…and condition builds being on the bottom end of performance since launch. I dont know why they havent addressed this yet. I prefer condition builds on my thief a lot of the time, but I see bleed caps real quick. So insteda of hitting two more death blossoms, I auto attack, or heart seeker..which hits like a wet noodle if the target has ample HP still.
