I think if they randomize these timers and not put things like queensdale troll on a 10 minute timer, these trains will go away.

Looking for small & active guild

in Looking for...

Hi,
Before you read anything, let me just ask that if you are going to spam your guild message here that you spam in every other message, save your breath. Some guilds even have spammed me the same one in a matter of a week. A more personalized approach would be a nice change of pace =) With that said…

I am in the market for a new home, even if it means a server transfer. Currently I am on Dragonbrand. My main is a thief, but I have 4 other lvl 80s that I hop around on. I primarily play PVE but I really like WvW and the “fight for your server” nature of it. I really want to find a small, tight knit group to have fun with. I am a casual player but I know how to play the classes I frequent and take pride in doing so.

I am looking for:
-Smaller guild, probably less than 50 or 60 members, or a guild that has a member cap in order to keep a close-knit family. I dont want to join a guild with 100+ members.
-Tight-knit group
-PVX guild. I enjoy PVE, but I do like to get into WvW from time to time. And when I really get into WvW, it gets freakishly addicting!
-I am on east coast, so my playtimes are around 7pm EST until 11pm EST or 12am EST, with varying times on the weekends.
-Casual guild with little requirements and regulations. However, an organized guild is one that will succeed.
-Guild with a website. I like to keep touch with the folks I spend my gaming time with.

If your guild is not on dragonbrand, in order for me to consider transferring:
-I have to consider what tier your server is in. I am not looking to get into T1 or even stay in T2. I like smaller skirmishes, havoc squad style fights with the occasional join up with the zerg to defend a keep. Thats my WvW style
-Your PvE presence. I like to run around different zones and I know that there are some servers that have a good amount of people running around all zones, such as timberline falls or iron marches. So, how isyour server in these zones, as well as Orr since it feels that Orr has largely been abandoned?

I know that is a picky list, but Ive been guesting different servers and bouncing around some guilds trying to find the right fit, and being opaque in this looking for guild description isnt cutting it. Just looking for a few like minded people to run around Tyria with, maybe run some dungeons every once in a while, do some WvW, and just have fun.

Thanks!

Curious about champs from low lvl zones too. Will troll in queensdale drop as much or anywhere close to as much as a champ in orr? Arenanet’s silence on this might tell me they didnt think about this or they dont think its a problem.

Why do you play?

I play in spurts. But lately Ive been having a casual mindset with it, and its more enjoyable.

I play to check off boxes, and that is a good and bad thing, get my characters gearset exactly how I want it(done), try new classes and builds, some WvW, some living story…however fluffy I think it is. And when Im bored again, Ill stop logging in and log into another game or go outside.

I like and hate that this game doesnt keep the typical player interested every day for months or years on end like a sub game will. Whether the sub game actually keeps you hooked or if you play out of obligation of your subscription, who knows. But I know that I logged into WoW every day for 6 years and had a blast running the same old dungeons and raiding. I just cant get to that level of committment here, or in any other game and I dont know why.

It’s hard to switch from WoW. As much as people hate to admit it, it’s the most successful MMO and is probably the most fun. Sure it has it’s flaws, but it also has years of fun that people remember. I’m hoping in the end, GW2 continues to grow and get better over the years and give us some really memorable moments.

I agree that it is the most successful, but disagree that it is the most fun..however that is up to debate whomever you ask.

I do not think stand still tab targeting combat, working around buffs debuffs and procs, is exciting, engaging or thought provoking. Not at all.

I do think their raids and boss mechanics are well though out, difficult enough, and unique. Not just one-shot mechanics, or 100 adds or tons of bad floor.. There are unique mechanics that a group must strategize to work through. This is wher eI think Gw2 falters and needs to focus on.

Regarding nostalgic: Ive always said that I think many people play WoW out of some misguided sense of nostalgia. My nostalgia ended during WOTLK. Cata was eh… and I only played for a month in MoP.

My nostalgia for GW2 is already forming… I remember launch day, running around the world as a noob and not caring about gear, progression, speed of leveling, rewards, or dalies. I didnt care about ANYTHING. I played for fun, for exploration, to meet people, to randomly come to gether in a zone with dozens of ppl to down an event, and then go on our seperate ways. Now, the scales have tipped more toward character progression, gear, reward, reward, reward, reward, reward… I still have fun, and I still sometimes experience what I nostalgiically think about…the ‘goood ole days’ of gw2…I still come across those momens. But few and far between and then saturated with a reward.

I agree with people that the fluffy content, minigames, lame theme drops need to stop. As one poster put it, give us more blood and death..more fear, destruction. Reason to do things besides achievements.

I thought it was funny that in another thread I listed all of the mini games that have been added, either perma or temp, since the game launched and tried comparing that to actual legit content. Someone replied to my post saying the mini games I listed arent minigames and that I was a fool for thinking so.

So tell me, are these minigames:
Belchers Bluff
Moa Racing
Keg Brawl
Aspect Arena
Survival arena
Crab toss
the haloween mini game

I think there are a few more, but I think these qualify as mini games.

Now compare this list to Zones, content, and REAL story that has been added since… southsun is abandoned. Living story is completed in a few days of their installments, and it is all achievements.

We need a new zone that has tons of content, tons of renown hearts, lore, dynamic events, new mobs, a city..thats what we want.

CoE: The template

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

cesmode.4257

Hi,
So I just completed all three paths for CoE finally and while all three paths share roughly a large amount of the same stuff, there are sublte differences and some different fights with interesting mechanics that need to be worked out. I like some of the pulls, the variety of vets, champs, and swarms of puny mobs. But also, the midboss that is different from path to path. Those are the types of mechanics that you guys should be templating in other dungeons. (Obviously mechanics from fractals of the mists is good to template off of as well).

But I thoroughly enjoyed CoE, all paths. Aside from the Alpha fights, its not just a dps spam, a dodge fest, one shot mechanics, tons and tons of bad floor(again I said aside from the alpha fights )…there are different and unique things to each of the midboss encounters.

The difference in mechanics from CoF to CoE is night and day. Even comparing CoE to AC..night and day.

Good stuff.

By small I mean..maybe 40 or 50 active members that represent the guild most of the time when they log in.

By casual, I mean a relaxed atmosphere…not a lot of requirements of you just active representation. Not that I am new, but it is nice to see a guild treat new players, even low level players, with respect. Non-elitists. With all of this said, people that know how to play their class.

I was freakishly addicted to WvW earlier this year but have taken a small break while re-acquiring my love for gw2. But I plan on playing it a few times a week.

Well..if that is true then..like what the hell is the point of playing how you want to play? The farming community keeps getting the shaft. Log in, and complete your ‘once a day max profit activities’ and log out? This mentality, this design direction of time-gating everything is destroying the core of what this game was built upon— Playing how you want to for the shear fun of it.

So, playing for the sheer fun of it means only doing things that give you a piece of rare or exotic gear? Funny, I thought that it meant playing for the sake of playing the game, despite the rewards… Like when my wife and I roll up new alts and go around one of the starter zones for a few hours – we do it because we enjoy it, not because it produces x gold/hour.

Sadly I thnk you misunderstood my post because I agree with you.

They need to make all champion events run on random timers so that we cannot run the zerg trains in queensdale, or any other zone. Random timers…this says to the player “go out and play normally, when you come across a champ, kill it”. I dont think they want pathing to champs and scheduled kills to fill their living world.

Random timers please, for the events to kill a champ like the troll in queensdale. This might spread us out to more zones. Champs that spawn as a result of # of players are fine. But random timers for all others.,

Thats why I say: Remove all rewards from the came, all laurels, etc etc. Leave ectos to be an exotic crafting material. And reward us with Karma, Gold, XP for completing any event or activity in guild wars 2.

Well I didn’t mean me personally, well besides the doing it all in one day part (I usually do the Monthly in 1-2 days). Having dailies so people will log on each day may be considered bad practice, but I can see where a company is coming from in that aspect. It makes the game world seem more active, but of course that’s pretty much just Queensdale atm.

I thought all events already rewarded us with xp/gold/karma?

A lot of things reward xp, gold and karma. But a lot doesnt. For example, Jumping puzzles reward you with blues and greens and the ocassional, very ocassional rare.
If they went with a system I suggested, amp up the reward of karma because a lot will be purchsed with it

Hold on, I can tell this will be a long one. Let me go get a cup of coffee, and I’ll BRB to read and edit this post

Edit: Before I forget, let me write a quick few reactions:

-They heard the cries of the people that wanted more gear progression so they give you ascended gear. I think it is a kitten -poor gear progression system, but its there for you even if you dont want to do fractals and simply want BiS stats.
-You might pay 10 euro(or 15 dollars I guess?) for a monthly sub in other MMOs and get everything. But you also get things you dont need. If you do not hoard items, you might not need all the bag and bank space that is given to you. Yet, you are paying for it. If you only play one or two characters, you might not need the 10 that WoW gives you. The point is: You pay for things YOU want. Convenience items that you want to pay for. Not a blanket fee that covers everything. And if one month in GW2, you decide you have everything you need, you pay nothing. Whereas in WoW or another game, if you decide you have everything you need, your account is still siphoned of that 10 euro.
-Living story isnt giving you “quests” to do. Achievements to unlock for minis, titles, and AP. While I think the living story system is garbage, its not necessarily quests.
-I have never been hypnotized or felt forced to buy anything off the TP. I do because I want to.
-Pure speculation on gems to gold being the reason for your supposed belief that there is no loot in the game. I just think that arenanet thought we would love to have loads of blues and greens given to us and we would feel “rewarded”
-Loot is a big part of MMOs but its sounding like loot and progression are your only means of enjoyment. You came from GW1, but you sound like you came from WoW Was GW1 a loot heavy game?

I agree, guild wars does a lot wrong, but it does a lot correctly. I dont agree with their living story direction and some decisions arenanet makes, and you can see that through my posts… but I do think it is better than a lot of the alternatives if you are looking for a fantasy MMO.

I’d be good with a weekly, only problem is I’d probably try to do each one on it’s first day.

So I’d log on once a week in this scenario :P (not the OP’s, but the above mentioned WoW model)

And this very may we be the case for many people. And if this is the case for many, then arenanet has failed in another way: keeping you interested beyond the “rewards” systems. Keeping you interested enough to play the game for the sake of playing. If they can’t do that, and they need to dangle a carrot in front of your face to keep you logging in, then they have failed in their job.

Thats why I say: Remove all rewards from the came, all laurels, etc etc. Leave ectos to be an exotic crafting material. And reward us with Karma, Gold, XP for completing any event or activity in guild wars 2.

I have 4 legendaries but its my armor/dye combination for what ppl send me message every 10 mins:-P

So what is your armor and dye combination?

And if you truely have 4 legendaries, and there are those of us with well over 1000 hours into the game and not even a precursor yet (and if we have been actively grinding for the rest of the mats), something is truely wrong. Arenanet is either ignorant that they didn’t see this type of fail coming, or incompetant. That someone who actively seeks the precursor by farming every event he can, 300MF, 1000 hours in, etc etc has not received a precursor, yet someone else can have 4 complete legendaries by now?

Just the fact that they placed gold and RNG into the process of acquiring one is fail enough. Legendary is the journey not your accumulated wealth and with the scavenger hunt/trek, it sounds like they are on the right path. Just very lazy that this enormous aspect of the game was not in at launch, or soon after. Instead, we got ascended gear

Whenever I see someone with Twilight or Sunrise, no. Less exclusive.

When I hear some unicorns firing, I cuss outlout because I don’t have my shortbow…spent a long time trying to farm the gold or be lucky with RNG, and I just gave up.

I’ve only seen one incinerator in WvW before. So ya, that is like woah! I’ve seen one or two bolts, and they continue to amaze me. I’ve seen one or two Juggs, and the hammer might have the best effect.

Fully agree with the OP. If they’d move dailies to be weeklies instead that would be a big step forward. That way you could keep AP gain the same as now, with more freedom to each player to do tasks when they got the time / feel like doing them.

As it is now, you have certain dailies pop up only occasionally. Like, do a story dungeon. If you happen to want to do one on that very day, you get rewarded with an AP. Do it any other day of the week – out of luck. That is poor design.

Agreed. Blizzard eventually went to a weekly model with their daily dungeons. Complete 7 whenever you had the time whether it be all at once, or over time.

Gives us more freedom to simply play the game as we want to and less checking off boxes.

(Dragonbrand) Looking for small, active guild

Hi,
I am looking for a smaller guild (less than 50 players) but active and with members that represent often enough. I tend to gravitate toward smaller guilds because of their close knit nature that larger guilds rarely have. But the key thing is for the guild to be active. When I log in, it would be nice to see a few people online chatting in guild chat, or whatever. The guild also needs to be interested in all aspects( PVE—Dungeon crawling, achievement points, puzzles, etc… WvW, etc). I am looking for a more adult guild where we do not experience the squabbles of 15 year olds, but do not shy from the ‘adult language’. I am looking for a casual guild, but a guild that knows what they are doing in some of the dungeons or WvW or something like that. A guild with a website is a plus. I am looking to stay on the Dragonbrand server because I don’t want to dish out more money to transfer yet again, but am willing to try out a guild to see if I would want to transfer servers. The server would need to have a decent PVE presence as well.

If you want to know more about me, PM me or if you feel I would be a good fit, let me know.

Thanks

Survey are mostly sent when company ship is sinking, and they are trying to fix things in hurry but that is always last gasp. GW2 is doing fine so i guess that is reason why there is no survey…

Grind for achieves, minis from living story, legendary, etc.

And no, wrong about the survey. Games send them out even in beta. Companies that have support want to know whats going on.

Or, if one day I want to switch to a condition build from a zerker build…storing skins in a “locker” or something vs in bank would be a so nice.

Never going to happen.

Storing skins would make less people buy Transmutation Crystals, which are likely one of the best selling items in the Gem Store. Adding armors to a locker is complex since a piece of armor has multiple variables that need to be tracked, while dungeon tokens have none.

No no, I still would be OK with transmute stones being required to use the skin again.

Im talking about freeing up bank space and having a central repository with every skin/armor that you have acquired throughout the game, so that you can mix and match whenever you feel like it.

Like the PVP locker in the mists…Or in the achievements tab where you can grab the zenith skins(just require a transmute stone).

Hi,
Do you think you guys can apply this same system/logic to skins? Not just pure skins, but even armor that we bought using dungeon tokens. Zerg trains in Queensdale

I think the zerg trains in queensdale need to be looked at. I hope that arenanet isnt turning a blind eye to it or that they are saying “yah thats a problem..we’ll fix it in a few months. Lets get this new minigame out to them!”.

It IS nice to see a lot of people in a low level zone. I would love it if this amount of activity was in other zones like kessex or timberline falls. Or Iron Marches. I am OK with zerg trains, as long as they are spread across all of the zones.

I dont know how they can avoid just the queensdale zerg. Limiting Champion loot to once a day is lame and lazy. And I think doing nothing is a better alternative than this. If they limited champ loot to once a day, you’ll see the following happen more and more:

Player logs in and checks off boxes…
-Daily
-Champ loot
-Charged Quartz
-As many ‘chest events’ as he can via gw2stuff.com
-Daily Dungeon (as many as you can stomach.

After about 1.5-2 hrs, you’ve checked all of these boxes and youre done. Log off.

I dont think this is what they had in mind.

You have a VERY broad opinion on what is a mini-game if you think any of that listed could be considered one. ANet certainly doesn’t consider any of that mini-games since one of the devs working on the August content said “no instanced mini-games, no jumping puzzles for August”.

Both things sound more like the Candidate trials which is a far cry from a mini-game, IMO.

A minigame can be open world or instanced. I think the devs announce these games under titles such as “New Mini-game!!” when they post new blogs.

Well, lesson learned – though it’s kinda one sided since I doubt they are reading the forums. Remember that this is a MMO – your action affects others too.

The OP isnt required to notify anyone of anything. It is not his fault that the zerg train was formed. Hes playing the game as he wants to. Sees an event and kicks it off. Theres no rulebook here.

It sounds like it might be a good idea. The easy, low level ones will drop area level mats, skill points and some other stuff, probably a green item. Enough to make it worthwhile to kill but not really enough to camp them. It’s the high level champions that sound more promising and the ones that might get camped. ANet could fix that by lengthening the respawn timer. Enough so that it’s not worth waiting there just for that.

Whether people start calling out champions and waypointing to them in a zerg, depends again on how rewarding they are. ANet needs to hit a sweet spot. Just enough to do but not enough to farm.

Now, in anything but a starter zone, people call out a champion and ask for help and get answered by, nothing.

Low level items, skill point drops and a green item isnot even worth while..especially not to a level 80. So why would an 80 bother to help with the champ that he sees one or two low levels struggling with?

Contradicting my last post, say what you will…seeing the queensdale zerg livens up that low level zone a bit.

I truely hope the reward is something worth while
A level 80 does not need more skill points, more karma,or tier 5 mats. Theres already a ton of that in the game and you can get it otherways. T6 mats are OK, Rare or exotics are good. I dont know..just something other than skill points. I dont need em. Never have.

I think that changing up champion loot is needed. Do I want T6 mats? Eh, maybe. Sure. What else would it give? More karma or some crap? Useless..

Do I think they need to be weary of the queensdale zerg? Oh definately. I wonder how they will handle those champions. I wonder if they will say “this change only applies to level 80 champs”

New dungeon reward system a nerf to alts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well it’s your fault for putting your eggs in one basket. Or in other words, creating alts for the sole purpose of running the same dungeon multiple times.

If you love your alts so much, just run them on different paths depending on the need.

Wait what, but anet told us we could play the game the way we want to. There are people in this world that create alts for the purpose of reward, not everyone has holy intentions.

If we were allowed to play the game we wanted to…Id be farming in orr or some other zone for mats. But those areas continue to be nerfed. Id forget about gear…Before November, I had the gear I wanted. Best in Slot for my purposes. Then ascended gear came out, and now I wanted to have the new BiS…grind. Thats not the game I wanted to play. I wanted to playthe way I wanted to, but a new tier in November(even if it is the last one) stopped me from the game I wanted to play: Acquire BiS gear and just enjoy.

I think we can effectively take that line and throw it out the nearest airlock.
Sad but true

Account wallet is good.
Champion loot is…good. I guess high level crafting material is good.
Improving visuals during graphic-intense fights is good

But this seems like more mini games, more achievements to be had, more minigames, and more minigames.

Well the champ loot is more than good. And what’s wrong with mini games. It sounds like pvp users will get some love in this patch too.

The problem with minigames is that they have added more mini games to GW2 than actual content. More mini games than lore-driven content. New complete zones full of DEs and lore. Southsun’s initial launch was crap. After the May event, it is crap again. I wouldnt even count that because they have failed twice. Its empty now.

Yet we recieve more and more minigames that have 0 impact on the game world.
If I wanted to play mini games, Id play stupid things on Facebook, or on my Galaxy S3.

I want content that is relevant to an MMO, not something I can find on facebook.

Well agreed with the lore and more content. But the last couple of mini game additions and the last patch with sanctum and everything had some background story and it was for me pretty much the best addition to the game for now.

Oh Ill admit some of the games are fun. Aspect arena…
But seriously. Does every patch need more mini games?
How many mini games are there in this game / were temporarily added to this game?

1. Keg Brawl
2. Belchers whateveritscalled
3. Moa Races
4. Haloween capture the flag event
5. Southsun Survival
6. Aspect Arena
7. Crab toss
8. Wintersday piano event
9. I wasnt around for SAB but there had to be at least one…

Look at that list. Im probably missing a few, but theres almost as many mini games added to the game at some point than there are actual dungeons. Out of the 8 or 9 on that list, how many are still in the game? Half?

You can see my point, and arenanet is working on it…I understand that. But even if they keep pumping the game full of PERMA mini-games.. seriously? If all they focus on are mini games, why go through painstaking efforts of character customization, leveling, gearing…who cares. Mini games are becoming the sole focus on content up dates. Its getting rediculous.

The only purpose of alts is to run dungeons multiple times?

Agreed. I would run one dungeon with character A, another with character B.

Everyone has a different reason for alts, but if people create alts for the sake of getting more and more stuff, more so than the guy with only one character, that creates an unbalanced game.

I cant wait for the nerf. And I hope they get this dungeon revamp correct. This is a huge part of the game and to be honest, I think a lot is riding on it.

Yes they fear what we might say. blabla

A lot of game developers send out frequent surveys. Why not? Customer satisfaction is paramount. I actually received one this morning for a different game, which got me thinking…arenanet should do the same.

Hi,
Do you think that Arenanet should send us surveys that cover a few of the major issues/controversies/dilemmas, etc that GW2 faces? Theres the debate about ascended gear and gear grind. There is a debate on grind in general. Debate on whether Living Story is worthwhile content? Etc…

I think that they should send out some surveys to truely see how we feel about the current game and its direction. But I doubt we will ever see such surveys…they might fear what we actually will say.

Thoughts?

People are going to come into threads like this, and they have before, and will say “But you don’t need to do any of that. You dont need to get your laurel each day, you dont need to farm gold, you dont need to run dungeons..do what you want”. What these people don’t realize is…this is the same as ANY MMO. In WoW, I dont need to run dungeons, I dont need to raid, I dont need to grind faction rep, I don’t need to farm materials. I can still farm materials, run regular dungeons, pet battles, with a smidge of gear I can queue for LFR and heriocs. I can run scenarios. I can re-visit lower zones and do quests I havent done.

People are so naieve to think that this game provides you the only unique avenue in the MMO industry to give you the true freedom of choice. “you dont need to run dungeons if you dont like to..dont grind if you dont want to…” Yet, I am free not to do either of those things in any run-of-the-mill MMO either.

Achievement Entitlement

Solution:

Remove all forms of currency except: Copper/Silver/Gold, Karma, Gems, Dungeon Tokens.

Make every mini-game, every dungeon COMPLETION, every dynamic event, every renown heart, every jumping puzzle, every achievement, every guild mission, every daily, every monthly…make everything you do in the game that is worth rewarding, reward you with in game currency, Karma, and XP.

Make everything purchasable through these means. Make all ascended gear we have available now purchaseable through karma….even remove the ecto requirement for the accessory. Make the laurel rewards purchasable through karma. Make everything done through karma and gold.

This does two things that are healthy for the game:
1. It removes the 50 different currencies the game currently has and alleviates the pressure of keeping track of all currencies.
2. It makes ALL content worthwhile. Whether you are doing a simple jumping puzzle, killing harpies for a slayer achievement, a dungeon run, or dynamic event, completing a daily…all of these will reward roughly the same stuff. Karma. XP. Gold. You can then spend this Karma on the current laurel gear. Or on obsidian shards for your legendary. Or ascended gear. Or guild boosts.

You will no longer feel obligated to farm dragons, or complete the daily, or check off boxes for achievement points. This truely opens the game up for the player to really play how they want to because no matter what, they will get the same rewards for doing whatever they choose.

This needs to happen. The game will flourish if all content rewards are streamlined.
