I agree, taking it too seriously. For now, I kind of like how politics are being handled in this game. More bribary and back-alley incentives would be cool.

Tera had politics but you elected players. Interesting as an idea, but then they became the cool kids in school, once elected.

I like this much better. Elect one, there are pros and cons to each, unique content being offered to each..

Knockdowns. I hate it. Because I just lay there for 2-3 seconds, on the dirt, collecting my thoughts while the risen that knocked me down, now has 50 of his buddies beating on me.

Edit: Ok, I just read the post above me. I take it back…

All 10000 of the different currencies annoy me and a poor way to manage them all.
And no management system for all the skins we have. I love the way the achievement skins are done. I would love it if we could have that for a lot more skins that we find

I am not a fan of the Living Story. I like the concept, hate how its being done. But I must commend Arenanet on Cutthroat politics. I like how this is being done…how we find random things in the world to support our candidate. I like how, while representing the candidate of our choosing, we gain achievements and favor with him/her. The mini games(particularly the Aspect Arena) are actually fun. I normally would play a minigame once or twice and walk away..but this is actually fun and almost worth while.

And I LOVE LOVE how we learn about the character through the Candidate trials. Kiel could have taken that money, but she chose to give it back. I LOVE the trial ‘event’. You really need to do more like this. Please! I do not like gimmicky “pick up the gun and fire at mines” type of instances. I love these mini dungeons where my character and playstyle matters, not how I handle some whacky gimmick.

+1 for the mini games
+1 for this particular living story arc
+2 for candidate trials (I would love if more of the stories are told in this manner)

I dont “like” her..not like that

But she is a strong and positive character. I guess many gravitate toward that.

I was going to support Evon but I realized one thing: If he is elected, black lion key prices are slashed. Which means we’ll be enticed to spend money on gems. I think Arenanet has gotten enough of a cash grab from us. Besides, when i spoke to Kiel on the ship, she was a bit nicer to me than Evon was..he was simply like “I cant tell you everything”. Kiel’s dialogue made me feel like we were old buddies…

I left SBI in…January? I looked to return in March, but it kind of felt “elitist”. I haven’t found that perfect guild to join yet, so Im mainly a solo player. But if I ever wanted to pony up the $$ for a commander, I hear you guys frown on ppl wearing the tag unless its approved or OK’d by the folks currently in WvW and if there wouldnt be too many people representing Commander. I know a lot of top tier servers probably have a similar attitude toward too many people wearing the commander tag, as it can lead to confusion if you dont know what you’re doing…but telling someone not to wear it is an even worse.

Has this sort of attitude changed?

I love how nobody’s bringing up the fact that ArenaNet is planning on providing permanent content with the new 4-team setup, whereas right now we’re still in the remnants of the 1-team bi-weekly rotation. We’re going to start seeing larger and larger updates for the next 4 months until it plateaus out, giving a balance of temporary and permanent content.

I could be wrong, but i think you’re mistaken. We arent in the remnants of anything. The bi weekly updates just started. We will get more perma content, but in the form of what? We HOPE its things like dungeons and stuff, but it could very well be cotton candy ‘F’ pushers in terms of mini games and things. We just dont know..no reason to jump to conclusion either way.

I really wish people would stop using the word cotton candy for everything that’s a dungeon or PvP. Not only does it dismiss content other people like but in fact, it’s totally misleading on a lot of fronts.

You might personally not like the new survival game, but how does that make it cotton candy. Seems that competitive people I know are enjoying it.

Liking one type of content over others is fair enough. Insulting content other people like doesn’t make anyone else that does like it sympathetic to your plight.

Likewise you could stop dismissing other peoples opinions…i think its cotton camdy content. My opinion is that ok? And i inlted noone by saying the ontent is fluff

I seriously think Arenanet is going to take some shortcuts with regard to its hyped dungeon revamp. Stuff like adding constraints or requirements to dungeons to make you kill mobs, or increased RNG chance for every trash mob you kill, or just throw 100 adds at us in an encounter. Or only revamp like two dungeons and say “The rest are coming in 2013”, or…yikes “The rest are coming in 2014, look for our new blog!”

So, they are making Zerk gear even more desirable in dungeons cause the more stuff you have to kill, the more DPS you need to do it in reasonable time? :p

They are just biding their time until the other game they are developing comes together.

…what?

Molten Weapon Facility and Aetherblade Retreat is returning, while these mini-games will be cycled. Also, a while back, a dev said they are coming up with some form of raiding.

I believe he may be referring to Wowstar. It’s a new MMO being published by NC$oft (Anet is not involved) and it looks like… bad… to me anyway. It has all the same core elements as WoW (similar questing system, rested exp, class/race restrictions, traditional raids which means gear treadmill most likely, etc), but tries to have mobile/dodge combat like GW2, except every single thing in the game is telegraphed with an obnoxious red or blue aoe mark. Also it looks like clown barf with all the colors and cartoon style, and it tries to present itself like Team Fortress 2.

Ahhh. Was wondering what he / she were talking about.

Eh, Wildstar aesthetics don’t look that bad IMO. Aside from the different paths of levelling and bunny girls I don’t know much about it.

I probably won’t get it, but I’m not going to hate on it. Each to their own and all that.

I’m mostly spiteful toward it because a bunch of my friends refused to play my favorite game (gw2) and instead constantly talk about Wildstar like it’s going to be the second coming of Christ.

I need new friends…

Me too. I’ll be your friend.

My RL friend tried GW2 for a month, got to 80 and stopped. He clings to WoW like flies to a pile of poo. He tries 5 dollar games on steam for a few days and stops…oops its tuesday and wednesday. Gotta raid. And then forgets about the crappy 5 dollar game off steam. To his credit, he’ll TRY games that I talk about all the time, some for an hour, some for a few hours…GW2 was his only pro longed exposure to a non-wow MMO.

My brother..he hops between WoW, Rift, and first person shooter single player games.

My guild: Dead. Noone logs into GW2.

So Im WTB new friends and a new small/active casual friendly guild.

I would rather we get a once a month permanent update of new areas or a dungeon , this game badly needs an equivalent to fow/uw and for most this living story just is not cutting it . Boring story and content – cmon guys you can do so much better than this.

The OP has a point. A lot of people like the content being pumped into the game, a lot do not. I personally, think it is all BS fluff. I would rather have monthly updates with some impactful event going on that leaves a scar on the game. Like Divinities reach partially destroyed, or a giant crater of some sort in Kessex hills. Or all of the sudden, an oasis of lush land suddenly growing over night for some unexpected (but explained) reason in Plains of Ashford.

A lot of people like their mini games, collect 1000 candy pieces, find a few interesting things in the world to turn in, etc…but is this really what we want as a playerbase? It seems that it is all we are getting. With each update ever since March or April, its been some light story with a lot of minigame and some candy to eat..with some flare of fireworks or some decoration. Nothing of substance, of importance that makes me sit back in my chair and say “Holy hell, I can’t believe my eyes”..its all “Ah, thats cute.” And “ah thats cute” doesn’t cut it for an MMO, especially one that has unlimited potential such as GW2.

Edit: Does anyone else feel like checkbox-machines with these new updates? Make sure you complete the requirements for achievements so that you get more free reward…more carrots. I literally sometimes feel that I am checking things off as I go, instead of just playing.

It sounds like to me the team wanted to do a specific strategy, and you refused or didn’t listen.

Either they wanted to skip the first two switches, or they stood on the wooden structure during the boss fight. Either way, if they kicked you on level 3 FoTM, chances are they simply found you obnoxious.

Why are the carebears in this thread calling his group elitist, when they darn well don’t know what happened? You really have to try hard to get kicked from level 3 FoTM.

A realist! I like you.

OP take this as a wake up call. Learn how to do things the fast/easy/efficient way, or find a more casual group to run with. The world doesn’t change to suit individuals. You need to adapt. Also, the group shouldn’t be forced to be stuck with someone they don’t like just to protect that person’s feelings from being kicked.

What crap. For fractals, most groups dont say “we are skipping and glitching and exploiting everything we can”. If the group kicked him for a few mistakes made, that is just BS on their part. Its not like the OP knew exactly how the group wanted to run all three fractals.

I would say its a symptom of the games design of not having real support, tank, or healing classes. Only thing that really mattes is burst DPS in most situations.

I agree with your first sentence that the absence of holy trinity and the ability to heal yourself/dodge, removes a lot of the need to bring someone that is less DPS and more support. Sad, but true. As much as I want this game to work without holy trinity, and I have gotten into it with people on this forum about the very subject, it just might not be feasable to design a game with dungeons that aren’t either reliant on burst DPS or some gimmick mechanic.

Even as berserker I can take one or two hits before I dodge out, and heal.

As many said, DPS is king. Sad and unfortunate. If you are decent enough of a group, you can do any content with pure dps and pure zerker. This is a huge drawback to the lack of trinity…

Hi,
I am looking for a smaller guild (less than 50 players) but active. I tend to gravitate toward smaller guilds because of their close knit nature that larger guilds rarely have. But the key thing is for the guild to be active. When I log in, it would be nice to see a few people online. The guild also needs to be interested in all aspects( PVE—Dungeon crawling, achievement points, puzzles, etc… WvW, etc). I am looking for a more adult guild where we do not experience the squabbles of 15 year olds, but do not shy from the ‘adult language’. I am looking for a casual guild, but a guild that knows what they are doing in some of the dungeons or WvW or something like that. A guild with a website is a plus, because I love surfing sites and forums ? . I am looking to stay on the Dragonbrand server because I don’t want to dish out more money to transfer yet again.

If you want to know more about me, PM me or if you feel I would be a good fit, let me know.

Thanks

Trash mobs are easily dispatched so there is no reason to CC them.

Please note also that a Zerk Warrior can as well CC mobs than a Soldier of Rabid Warrior. So why not have someone that can CC and still deal heavy DPS?

That wouldn’t be full zerker, but this is more in line with what Im saying. My warrior is in Knights gear, but utilizes the trait build and skill loadout of a zerker warrior. So my stats arent optimal, but I can take a few more punches.

My Thief, when running high lvl fractals, uses the highest DPS build I can muster via pistols. But I can dodge and dodge forever. I built in a bit of survivability.

Sad thing is, people just want DPS and little surv.

To add: More HP to mobs/bosses is not the answer. More armor to mobs/bosses is not the answer.

-Phases, whether at certain HP percentages or at random intervals, where the boss does a certain ability that we need to avoid, or do or activate something to mitigate damage…

-Kiting adds or the boss around the room
-Kiting the boss around the room so the boss steps on “debuff”/bad floors
-Condition removal…all classes have it. Its highly unlikely that youre entire group will not have one condition removal.
-The use of specific combo fields. My god the potential of this is insane. "Boss is more vulnerable to fire combo fields(blasts and projectiles)… Boss is more vulnerable to poison. Or, to make it easier for the group, stealth during a particular phase of the fight(Thief has two ways to do this for the entire group, mesmer has one).

Come on…Im a mere player and already these are better mechanics than most of your dungeons. I can go on and on about interesting things for fights. And if some of my ideas are used, I’ll be both pleased and upset(that I didnt rack in some royalities)

I would rather just be useful to my group. If Zerker is the only way to do that..it is unfortunate.

9/10 dungeon bosses fail Cesmode’s test of unique and interesting mechanics. I do think they rushed this part of the game because the molton dungeon, and it sounds like the aetherblade dungeon, were marvels compared to the launch-dungeons.

If they are CAPABLE of providing us things like the molten and aetherblade dungeons, but gave us what we currently have…they are either:

A) Lazy and have better things to do with their time than give us quality when the game launched
B) Incompetent in terms of skill set when the game launched
C) Forced to pump out sub-par dungeons due to time or resource constraints.
D) Actually really thought their dungeon set was good and unique. Take some notes from WoW dungeons and raids. True, still face roll but not nearly as tank and spank. They are unique fights, mostly…but the difficulty is still weak.

All I can say is that a large portion of this game’s ‘health status’ hinges on their ability to improve and revamp the dungeon and dungeon reward system.

-Make fights difficult so that these types of builds ARE useful.
-Make dungeons so that you cannot speed run past every mob and glitch everything you see.
-Make dungeons worth completing to 100%
-Make trash mobs worth killing
-Make all paths “worth it” to run.

I know they are addressing some of these points. The solution rests in the reward system(how rewards are given out and the quality of said rewards), along with the actual dungeon mechanics themselves.

An ideal situation would be: A boss where if you aren’t in full zerker and some top-dawgg player…you will likely die. And by full zerker and top dog, I mean..you don’t get hit by ANYTHING. If you cannot pull off full zerker, then you NEED to build in some survivability into your build. So a mix of builds would be viable. Some condition removal from necro wells, or well timed heals from guardian/ele…things like that. Mo

Unfortunately, glitching fights and mobs..and exploiting is present in any game. While Neverwinter has the most challenging dungeons in any MMO that has been released in the last few years…it is a breeding ground for exploits and glitches. People run past mobs to get to the end, to die but rez at the last waypoint…things like that. Unbelievable. GW2 is a close second with this type of behavior. I don’t want to spend 1.5 hrs in the dungeon, but I dont mind a nice 40 minute run. I hate when groups try to glitch, something goes wrong, and then you’re set back further than you would have been if you just cleared normally.

But one can only wonder…is this a result of all of the carrots that are dangled in front of our faces? Is this behavior because of the cheese at the end of the maze? They HAVE to make dungeons worth running and completing, but they should make clearing trash mobs worth killing too.

I asked a similar question last night in the Guardian forums about Support being viable, respected, and welcomed in groups.

All you see on that site are the elitists.

Even if I managed to join a group that didn’t care what my class/build was…are these support/healing builds even worth it? Are they more a detriment than suppliment? I know a nicely built guardian can keep a group up with some well timed heals, sure. But all in all, would the group have been better off with the guardian running a greatsword or something? The majority of dungeons rarely pose any challenge. The whole notion that explorables were supposed to be insanely difficult was nothing more than a company line that every mmo developer feeds its players to think that “Wow, a game dev finally created dungeon content that is actually difficult!!” Only, the paths are weak, there are only a handful of run paths(being fixed with future patches), etc.

Is it worth it to go more DPS, with some of your own survivability…vs pure support with little dps? Im not sure I see the need given the current difficulty of the majority of the dungeons.

Its sad. I wouldn’t mind building my guardian for support, or an ele(if I lvl her) to be heals/support.. or mesmer for condition/confusion/support.

The DPS builds ARE getting boring but it is truely all you need with self heals and a little bit of brain activity.

Cliff notes version of the living story?

Thank you very much, very informative.

Story still lacks cohesion. It is not your abbreviation of it, but it just seems like it lacks cohesion..a fluidity from one arc to the next. Things just “happen”. Flame legion and Dredge form a military alliance, but for what purpose? Just to get ‘stronger’? No ultimate goal? Canach escapes…how? We didnt know who the aetherblade pirates were until they arrived…has there been any explanation on them and their origins? We dont know who the Zephyrites are until they arrive…any information on their origins?

Seems a bit disjointed to me. Small stories that could exist on their own lightly sown together to form a “living story”. They need to do a better job to tell the story. Not everyone has been around for each event, and unfortunately even if people are around…not everyone is intimately reading each line of text to gain better understanding of the story. TBH, I was a bit put off by Flame and Frost..poorly told..Refugees ran from something and it turns out there was some alliance but to what end? Just left me with more question marks. I took a break from the game, came back and now have been completely lost because theres little cohesion.

But thank you very very much for your summaries. Would be cool to get some more info from folks.

So since the living story seems disjointed, sparse, fluffy and without a lot of detail, combined with the fact that I’ve taken several week to month long breaks from the game, I am a bit lost as to the entire living story ‘saga’.

Could someone explain to me (in a cliff notes version if you don’t want to go into detail), from the beginning starting with the Flame and Frost all the way to cutt throat politics..what has happened? Or if you know of a source that has all of this information in a one or two tidy page location, that would be good too.

I just want to catch up with the story because it really isnt clear to me whats what anymore. Oh sure some…sky pirates are here. And someone died…? Now some nomads called Zephrytes are here. Im totally lost.

Sadly, Im one of those OCD people that would need to have a different name for both haha. But not at the tune of 30+ gold more.

Interesting. I guess Arenanet thought that orichalcum and ancient wood would be the same price?

Hi,
So after forgoing my quest for a legendary, until at least the scavenger hunt I suppose, I crafted Ilya. I am a thief, so I want to duel wield ilya…but I am curious if I am able to. I don’t see any restriction saying that it is ‘unique equipped’ in that I can only equip it once. I am curious why anyone would craft Lyss, since the mats are currently way more than Ilya.

Could anyone comment? Thanks.

Are we going to get more options for Laurels?

Hi,
Are we going to be receiving any more options to purchase things with for laurels? Im thinking, several choices of skins..several shortbow choices to choose from, several dagger choices to choose from. The current stock of goods is kind of bland and has been there all year. Need new things.

And how sad that is. Surprised arenanet did not see this coming and had a tweak in a patch some where to reduce the amount of mobs at the 4 camps , or shrink the requirement to two or three. Its as abandoned as ever, again.

I have a feeling all zones will be this way with living story. Lion’s arch will be a populated laggy mess, like always. And a few specific zones with the content will have ppl. Thats about it. Orr is looking semi deserted these days too. The once heavily populated areas of shelt/pent/plinx…maybe two or three other players. So sad.

Hey,
So do any of you run around Southsun at all anymore? Are there any attemps to hold the 4 points for the queen? Or has this zone once again been forgotten due to living story?

Thanks for the info on the dyes.

Yeah, I have about 25 or 30 AR on the character I run fractals with…lvl 25-30 is about as far as I want to go. Beyond thakittens sort of pointless… just a skill challenge which is cool, but not worth the frustration

Tonics are pointless to me.

I have no guild, unfortunately. The one I am in/was in, is dead. No one plays.

Maybe I’ll just stockpile them for when they add more crap to purchase. Like Skins! So baffled why they didnt put skins in there. And it annoys me that the game has shifted from a cosmetic grind to an item/reward grind.

So…what are you spending laurels on? Im slowly playing again, I have 91 laurels. I have all other ascended slots filled already and on my other toons.

-I dont feel like blowing 50 ectos on the accessories
-Receiving two or three T6 mats…eh…is that worth it?
-I have stock piles of WvW blueprints
-Mini pets do not interest me much

Is it possible to get rare dyes from the 10 unID pack?

Just not sure its worth the hassle of completing dailys anymore. There is nothing I want or need. I wish there were some skins I could purchase. We need a lot of skins to be pumped into the game all at once so that not everyone looks the same. Tons of people with dragon wings. More people every day with Zenith skins.

Hi,
So despite my recent post history in the past few months regarding my disagreement with design direction, fluffy living story, lack of precursor scavenger hunt, etc etc… I want to give arenanet props where they deserve it.

The Achievement point skins are pretty stud. I like it. I like the shortbow skin enough that I think Im going to quit my journey for The Dreamer. I havent gotten The Lover yet, and it does seem out of reach. But I think the achievement point skin is unique enough in style and effect that it may even be better than the legendary skin. I think the passive effect is has is way better than the bland look of The Dreamer…only the dreamer does fire friggin unicorns!

Anyways, good stuff. As always, your art team has revolutionized art and style in computer games. A+
