So I am slowly gearing up to begin grinding for my legendary. Threw about 10 sets of mats in the mystic toilet and received no clovers. I read that theres a 33% chance of getting a clover. Out of at least 10, probably more, I have yet to see a clover.
Is this the norm?

So Ive been hoarding fractal relics (not pristine..just the regular relics) since FoTM was released. I have no use for them, at the present other than to purchase the +5 agony resist, which costs 75 relics I believe.
Ive been debating about throwing a few hundred or so at obsidian shards, but I am not sure if arenanet has plans to open up gear or opportunities to get different infusions with with these relics. I don’t want to blow half my relics on things, and then in a month or two Arenanet announces that new infusions will be available via relics, or an easier way to upgrade current ascended into an infused ascended.
Thoughts? Has arenanet mentioned anything about revisiting the value and purpose of these relics?

No. You were able to zone into the “staging area” and you CAN zone into the dungeon, like any other dungeon, but you wont be able to solo.
Fractals are usually much much harder than most dungeons and require a certain amount of communication within the group. A lot of times, it is more than just killing trash and bosses. Environmental things to avoid, etc.

The most rare ocassion. Ive never been in a party on an NA server where someone hasn’t spoken english. It is an NA server after all(if you are indeed on an NA server)

Just throwing my two cents out there, because I see an insane amount of negativity and whining about the waypoint change.
Arenanet, you have a great service to the game for this change and I encourage you to weed out all possible exploits, glitches, workarounds for boss fights and even trash. This is your game, do what you will. The people complaining about this change are the people that need a crutch to complete a dungeon.
I am on your side with this change. And I salute you.
To everyone else: Please just accept this change. It is not going away and there are most likely going to be other “earth shattering” dungeon changes in the future. Count on it. Expect it. Expect not to steamroll through a dungeon in 20 minutes anymore. Oh and being a glass cannon is still fine. I am one on my thief, roughly, and I have absolutely 0 issues.
Pro tips:
1. Do not rely on your teammates to keep you alive, rely on yourself.
2. Constantly keep your eyes glancing at the ground for those little red circles.
3. After running these dungeons for 5 months, you should know approximately when the boss is going to execute abilities x,y,z. Anticipate it. Get behind the boss. Get away from the boss. Glance at the ground. Dodge/roll. Line of sight Koehler(sp).
4. You should have some revive orbs from leveling. Use them. But they definately, DEFINATELY are not required to complete a run.
5. If youre below 10% hp, your heal has more than a few seconds left on cooldown, switch to a range weapon. Range increases the chance you’ll be verticle for longer…most of the time. Once you heal, switch to melee and go whackamole.
Without the ability to respawn in combat with no difficulty decrease, dungeons are now long and rediculous.
Reduce the amount of damage/HP mobs do and reduce there HP.
I think this may be the most rediculous post in all of the guild wars 2 forums. And that is saying a lot…a lot my friend.
“Not being able to rez in combat makes encounters harder”. In what other game can you do this? Besides a few encounters in wow, a lot of times the encounter is blocked off. Seriously. You needed this ability to complete dungeons? Are you that bad? Is the rest of the community THIS bad that theres this much of an uproar?
You guys truely make me not want to run a dungeon anymore because I am afraid I’ll have YOU whiners in my pug. Can’t stay alive? Can’t play the dungeon the way it was meant to? Can’t glitch it out now? Can’t sit up on a ledge, dps the boss anymore worry free? Are you really that bad of a player? Levels 1-80 teach you nothing?

Leave arenanet alone. This was a fantastic change. Quit trying to glitch crap, and you won’t miss the crutch when its gone. Trust me.
And soon, very soon, I can see that skipping all trash mobs will be an obsolete practice, once they change it so that mobs do not de-aggro. Oh boy I can see the fire now. Get used to it boys. Dungeons are being fixed the way they should be and I love it.
And I am not elitist. Casual gamer, a mere level 20 fractal player. In a casual small guild.
But I do not suck, which is why this change has not impacted me.
So 30 would be a good place to stop at, unless I have a semi-hardcore group that doesnt mind frequent downs. Yes?
Is it just me , or are there other players who hate dungeons turned into same system like fracs? Its annoying and made the game in my opinion less fun..
grtzThe first time I played AC in Story mode and saw people actually resing and running back to continue the fight, I knew there was a major issue.
Encounters need to be finisheable without players dying and resing. Fractals were a breath of fresh air and now that it’s come to dungeons too, I hope we can finally learn the encounter mechanics and complete the encounters as they were meant to be done, not just bum-rushing the boss and dying 1000 times to mechanics we should know how to avoid.
I agree. Im astounded at how many work arounds and glitches people try to find. And now that their yellow-brick-road style of dungeons is gone, everyone is suddenly terrible at the game. Dungeons are impossible, people cannot do it, yadda yadda. AC is oso hard, omg..blah blah. whine whine.
My ultra casual guild went into AC on patch night, with one person never being there and I havent done the path since launch…we cleared it in 25 minutes, no deaths, no problems. Its how dungeons are supposed to be run folks.

Only thing that still boggles my mind is amulets only available via laurels, and not fractals.
Other than that, this is EXACTLY what the game needed.

Yeah, I only intend on getting to 25 or 30 on my thief, and then maybe 20 on my warrior. After that, I’ll be sick of fractals and want to do something else(either live and die in WvW, begin the legendary grind, or roll some new toons..already have 5 at 80).
And the general rule of thumb is still Fractal Level – 5, for AR. Correct? If I am doing fractal 30, I want at least 25 AR to be OK. Yes/

So curious who is going to continue to pick up the versatile infusion(simple +5 agony resist) or the new utility infusion(gilded, magic). Why would you pick the new utility ones that have no agony resist? Im guessing the only reason would be if you know you aren’t going to go very high in fractal levels, because otherwise you need that agony resist.

So, just to clarify for myself:
If I am fractal level 20, and I join a group that is looking for fractal level 25(for arguments sake, lets say everyone else is 25, I am 20)..
I will get rewards for level 20, and will increase my fractal level by 1, to 21, at the completion.
The rest of the group will get rewards to 25, and increase to 26. Correct?
I just want to make sure everyone in the group, if Im the lowest fractal level, will get reward to their level and gain a fractal level.
Just for my own sanity, trying to wrap my head around this

can someone explain why you decided to remove respawning during combat in dungeons? just did a run of AC with 5 level 80, and its near impossible, with us nerfed even more than before and with healing nerfed, it seems that you’ve made it near impossible for anyone to complete dungeons. we’re five fully geared level 80s, i have no doubt in my mind that people who are at the level the dungeon requires will struggle even more than us.
My casual guild and i blew through it with no problems. And one if thm had never een there. You were just crutched or too long.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in there like everyone else. Now, this isnt a rant against ascended items, but rather how they are acquired as it makes no sense to me.
Ascended items have a slot for infusions to mitigate a fractal-specific “mechanic” called agony.
Previously, this defense was avialable only by running fractals and purchased with pristine fractal relics, or via chest lool
Now, we can buy with lauarels. I have no problem with that.
With this current patch, ascended amulets were introduced. You can ONLY buy these from laurels, not by doing fractals. My quesiton is this: What logic says that ascended amulets should only be available via laurels, which carry a fractal-specific slot? This makes no sense to me. They should be available from running fractals as well, because they are USED and needed for fractals.
I dont understand this. What was the logic behind this decision? Was this an oversight?

The amount of filthy posts in this thread is astounding. Guys, this was necessary. In no other serious MMO can you waypoint-zerg a boss…can you release, run back in and continue on. With the exception of a handful in wow, most times those fights have gates that close when the encounter starts.
Ive done nothing but PUG nearly every dungeon ive been in, with the exception of the last few weeks, and Ive never had a problem. Ive never had to waypoint constantly to beat a boss, with the exception of CoF mag(which they are REDOING. Or they already have.)
It isnt needed. Stop being hand held, stop trying to glitch a fight, stop trying to find a work around for a fight and get better at the game.
Enough is enough. This is rediculous.
edit: To combat the need of rez rushing, they are evaluating boss mechanics, such as one shots. Be patient. This is for the better of the game.

I dont know. This makes no sense. Not that I am a fanboi either way, but they open up ascended gear to evreyone via laurels(dailys and monthlys), which was previously exclusive to FoTM. Yet, they have not opened up ascended amulets and the new infusions to fractal relics…what if people do not want to do any dailys or monthlys, much like people not wanting to run fractals.
The door swings both ways. While this patch has been great so far and I am indeed happy with it…this is just another case of Arenanet not fully thinking stuff through, or rushing it out the door. They did that with fractal levels, and ascended gear being exclusive to FoTM. They are doing the SAME thing, with amulets/new infusions. The same thing. They havent learned…until we harp on this so much that they hold an AMA.
Disappointed with this one piece of the patch. I have all of these fractal relics, nothing to spend them on. Currently I am not going after a legendary, do not need rings or a backpiece. I have a ton of relics, just taking up space.
I dont like that theres a chest. I rather just get everything with one press of F.
If you want to bandwagon, and have long queues(most likely upward of 1-2 hours during peak times, just like at launch), Jade Quarry, Sanctum of Rall, Kaineng, Blackgate(maybe not so much Blackgate), Maguuma.
Dragonbrand and Fort Aspenwood are also populated, and you get small queues, but they are pretty good at WvW.
If you want no queues, Stormbluff Isle, Ehmery Bay, Crystal Desert, Isle of Janthir, Devona’s Rest (pretty much all of the mid tier servers now). Instead of being awsome and hugely populated maps, the battles are a bit more strategic, I find, on these servers. The servers choose their battles, rather than rush and fight zerg vs zerg.
Its a matter of what you want. top tier server? queues? No queues? Strategic? Zerg?
I like the style one poster mentined, I think it was a euro ladder style:
Win your matchup, you move up a tier. Lose, you go down a tier. Take 2nd, you stay.
When the server that won moves up..if they are stomped, they go back down. Vice versa for the guy that lost.

I would LIKE to get my legendary. Im not actively working toward it because, while I am OK with a small grind, finding 750 ancient wood is insane. Thats just one tiny fraction of this grind. With that said, I am not saying that it shouldn’t be this hard to acquire a legendary.
So, I am probably going to blow most of my karma on the orrian jewel boxes…get some lodestones, get some karma back, get some obby shards. I might blow some on obby shards…but other than that, I have no use for it. So, its a slow way to inch me closer to considering an all out grind for the legendary. But I am not actively working toward that point.
Well if that’s the case, then are you happy with this reset? I think your response above is exactly what this reset is for.
I am happy with the reset, but under the current system will be falling into the same ruts facing the exact same problems over time.

Eh, I am not sure I agree. Servers are where they are now because of previous efforts. Still, a server like IoJ might need to drop another tier for a better matchup, but it will take far less time. Maybe 1 or 2 weeks. If that. Hell, if they push into the #2 spot for the week, they wont need to. A server like Kaenig, who we do not know is a stud or not yet, will get bolted to tier one, probably because of this. So yes, I can see this a problem here.
But its a better solution than to let things carry on. Way better. Not perfect, but its something.
Instead of complaining, you people should be out to come up with plans on how to get to your desired tier. This reset is the perfect moment for all those arrogant people to put their money where their mouth is. You think you deserved to be in your position because of other people’s efforts? Prove it.

They are now in tier 5 and are currently 3rd in their match up, by a large margin. There are still guilds that remain there and I feel for them, however they have lost so much of what they had. 9 weeks without a win can do that to a server.
As if…being in tier 5 is any different than tier 1 in terms of..what? Are you getting more reward for being in a tier 1/2 server than a 5/6? All you get is “bragging rights” that youre server can field a few hundred on every map, zerg around with some strategy (And yes, I’ve been on a tier 1 server, and a tier 3 server. I know what their WvW styles are like. SBI in it’s glory days and now Dragonbrand).
With that said, yeah 9 weeks of teeth smashing would do it. Thats why this change is needed. IoJ’s rating is so far bloated because they spent so much time at the top, they will need weeks to get to where they belong in terms of matchup(considering server sizes and all).

I am transferring off of Dragonbrand to IoJ because I had a lot more fun on IoJ (especially getting blown out). Zerg vs zerg gets old. Id rather 5-10 man skirmishes over zergs.
You’ve missed the point of my post, I’ve never suggested that dropping tiers is a negative thing. In fact my solution promotes that a server can drop tiers more easily. It’s the same match ups over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and entire communities leaving servers due to the lack of variation and progress that is my concern.
Well if that’s the case, then are you happy with this reset? I think your response above is exactly what this reset is for.

Do’s—
-I like the rez-rushing change. I agree, this is not what dungeons were designed for. If you haven’t already, however, add in some more waypoints to dungeons.
-Koehler(sp) fight in AC. This is a good fight. There are things you need to be aware of to down the fight, yet completely managable.
-The mesmer fight in TA Exp. Awsome. Don’t hit her while chaos armor is up unless you want confusion. Stay out of bad floor. She ports around. A few things happening at once that don’t one-shot you but you need to be aware. Ive wiped on her a few times, indeed.
-The worm(first) boss in TA exp. Its good, theres way too much badfloor as it is. Adding more is…excessive, even if you decrease the difficulty.
-Trap-pit in AC exp, where we need to use traps to kill waves of mobs. Very nice.
Don’ts—
-As you know, health <> difficulty. Even in a “tank and spank” fight. Taking 5 minutes to kill the boss vs 3 minutes bears no difference in difficulty.
-One-shot abilities, such as Malrona’s “bad-floor” <> difficulty. This is very lazy design. Mechanics like this almost force players to be at max range to avoid a lot of it.
-Nightmare tree in TA exp: Boring. The common strategy for all paths, except the one with the spirit trees, is to sit at max range, and range down the boss. Talk about forcing me to play a style that I do not want to play on my warrior. Sitting at max range and mashing two buttons is boring. Also, for one of the fights, not using AoE because it’ll aggro spiders, is a bad idea too. I know we shouldn’t use aoe for single target, however, having 50 spiders that come and melt your face is lazy design too.
-Hard to see boss windups with all of the particle effects (for instance, Koehler’s(sp) windup animation for the “grab” that he does. Hard to see in the middle of everything.
General suggestions—
-Reduce health from a lot of bosses.
-Im not sure if this was what you were referring to in patch notes, but fix being able to sit on a ledge and DPS down adds/boss without them touching you. This is brainless and I scoff at the communinity for finding this and using it(even though I myself use it because the rest of the group does! remove these “exploits”!)
-Skipping all trash. This is out of control, absolutely out of control. In other MMOs trash in dungeons will follow you to the end of the earth. They reset in GW2 dungeons. Id prefer them not to reset. I think people focus way too much on speed, efficiency, and reward rather than enjoying the content given to them. Also, when people try to speed run, often it leads to one person lagging behind for hatever reason and ultimately creates more time lost than if the group decided to kill the adds. Now the group must wait for this person.
-All the work arounds, glitches…find them and fix them! Im with you on this.
-Gear from chests is absolutely pathetic. Coins/gold from chests is absolutely pathetic. Increase the quality of both of these. I care less about blue junkie items.
-Add in more boss mechanics where groups could use walls or reflects to avoid/mitigate the damage. A guardian reflect wall would be nice on malrona if she spat out a projectile. Or, for instance, on my thief I use smoke screen on Ole Tom. I love it. My group loves me for using it. Im using what I have in my bag of tricks to help the group.
-How about a boss that takes more damage from life-steal combo projectiles, and/or from regeneration combo projectiles, or from using combo fields in general. Get deeper into fight mechanics that feed off of our abilities to utilize eachother’s combo fields. One thing to look at is the dragon fight in Icecrown Citadel in WoW (I forgot the boss name). For a year or two prior to that fight being released, I had said that the game should have a boss fight where healing the boss is the key. I know there are no healers, and to do this exact thing would make people take elementalists and guardians…but something similar to this would be awsome. Think outside of the box, or PM me for more ideas..Ive got a lot!

@MikeFerguson, thanks. It’s good stuff. And it isnt like previous efforts in previous weeks mean nothing. They got you to where you are now, to the match up coming on Friday(when the reset is going to happen). So you’ve put yourself into good positions. If your previous efforts didn’t matter, they would have just tossed everyone around and let the cards fall where they may.

Well that stinks. I have little use for the 1000 fractal relics. This make no sense, btw. They make these new utility infusions exclusive to activities that have nothing to do with Fractals, yet they are for fractal gear.

I dont know. I think when they say “play your own way” they mean that they don’t want you to be forced to run Fractals if you want BiS gear.
Concerning the stats themselves? This is a quiet issue that is slowly picking up speed in the community. I could be wrong, but the stats on the ascended items look like they are all over the place.
Plus, as another thread states, there are no Knights(ppt) stats on these items. My warrior is traited for a glass cannon, but her gear props up her survivability via toughness(knights gear). Take that away and I have to redo my build because I wont be able to take one shot to the chin before going down.

Pretty good idea. I like it. I do share another post’ers concern that a server who is currently a stud in their tier could destroy the tier outright(like maguuma did because of numbers), thus vaulting them to the top whether they deserve to be there or not.
However, for the lower pop servers and servers hit with mass exouds, very good.
Suggestions: In re-visting the ranking formula, if you can consider the amount of unique account logins to WvW that week as well, or something that will reflect the server’s WvW population/presence that might help as well. Even if a server does really well in its bracket with a lot less players, and manage to move…it could move up to a tier where its a zergfest and then they have no chance.
And to correct the poster above: IoJ lost a lot of guilds. They are not out. If I am not mistaken, in the last few days they have made an incredible push for the #2 slot in the tier. They have some fight in them.
