You guys want to carry a quaggan on your back?

Anyways, about the new ascended amulet: Curious to know if this would be a possible reward from a level..fractal 10 daily chest? Or is it restricted to a level 20 daily chest? Or 30 daily chest? Obviously, this would be in addition to the new ways to acquire ascended gear…but just curious how this will be rewarded if you choose to run fractals. Also curious if the time it takes to purchase ascended gear via laurels would be roughly the same as it would be in fractals. Right now, if I run a lvl 10 daily, I have a really good chance at getting a ring in a chest. I got one for two or three nights straight a few weeks ago. Combine that with doing a the daily each night, and you could have yourself 3, 4, or even 5 ascended rings in the span of a 1.5 weeks. Is it going to take a month to farm out enough laurels for these ascended items? I hope the time balance is equal.

Plans for outmanned buff?

In the same boat I see.

Well, in addition to +might, -dmg reduction, I had suggested maybe a reduction to siege weapon cost.

If a group of 5 people could easily buildup a ram or two, take a tower easily, if the enemy server is focused elsewhere. It by no means will be the saving grace…but it would give the outmanned server something to do at least.

And I am not even sure things like server merges would even help. My server seems to have a healthy PVE population. Its just WvW that is suffering. Maybe for WvW only, merge two servers together… keep them merged together. WvW only. So it would be something like IoJ & Devona’s Rest vs Maguuma vs Yaks Bend.

The real guilds from ioj, the alliance, and all the stuff will always be cherished. It doesn’t matter which server you go into, it is how the guild wants to move on and do take actions into what they believe would benefit their friends/guild. IOJ will remain a pve server and it will always be. From DRGN, QQ, FIST, ND, AVTR and Hel making a difference to IOJ – I hope everyone will stay to their roots and contribute something to the benefit of their chosen server.

Love lots

The real guilds?

Concerning posts about how other servers recovered from being kicked while down…you guys still had the benefit of open transfers. In a few days, we will not. What is the incentive for WvW guilds to pay to transfer to IoJ? And for guilds where not everyone in the guild is buddy buddy…how do you convince your playerbase to pay to transfer? IoJ, and a few other servers, are going to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Players will no longer be able to free transfer to IoJ to check it out and see if its a good fit. They’ll have to pay for that, and its a risk I am afraid many will not take.

I made a post about the outmanned buff and how it needs to be reworked. I sincerely hope that arenanet does something for those servers with woefully low presence compared to its weekly competition.

Jax dude, I was right with you last night man(not sure what your in game name was). But I was there last night, we pushed mag out of the northern part of our borderland! We started dabbling in the south a bit. Right as I logged off a magg zerg was taking Sunny I believe…I log in this morning at 6:25am EST, magg had every single capture point in all maps.

Its just very disappointing to see all the hardwork we did as a dedicated-spirited and devoted server, just crushed by sheer numbers (and I have only been on the server a little over a week).

I was going to write up a very similar post as you, thank you for sparing my fingers pain. We do need some guilds, large or small, or even individual players looking to work as a group, to join the fight. I don’t care if the server sits in the bottom rung of tiers. As long as we have healthy competition, without complete teeth stomping, Im fine!

Also, what did you mean, “due to the PVE nature of IoJ”? I am a heavy PVE player as well…is there a problem on the server with PVE?

Regardless…fight on IoJ. I just hope that guilds and people still find the courage, and money, to transfer over even after paid transfers begin.

Edit: Ahh, Tainir! I remember you now.

Plans for outmanned buff?

in WvW

cesmode.4257

Currently as I see it, the outmanned buff is: (correct me if I am wrong, just from memory)

+20% Magic find
+33% Experience
+33% Karma

What does this exactly do to help a server that is outmanned in WvW? Especially with all of the transfers going on, some servers are being left out in the cold with virtually no one playing WvW, and if there are people playing they are all congregated on one map trying to take a handful of points, while the other two maps are deserted by that server. Its typical for the outmanned server to band together, take one or two points but then have them steamrolled by the other server or two. Not because of lack of strategy. Its because, and for lack of better words, we are outmanned! We just don’t have the numbers and this plays a huge role in WvW. Theres no denying it.

The outmanned buff needs to add in things to give the WvW players of that server a fighting chance at taking some keeps against overwhelming odds. Something like 20% damage boost, 5% damage reduction, 5% reduction in supply cost to build siege. If a server, which otherwise wouldn’t have a prayer in competing, had a fighting chance, took a few points, took a garry or two…expanded to another map…maybe other people who have been dis-enfranchised with their server’s lack of WvW presence and success, would log in and contribute! Eventually, enough people from the server would join in, and the outmanned buff would be auto removed. The server now has presence in more than just one map, and a decent presence. This is now fostering healthy competition. This would also aid in servers that simply do not have overnight guilds and presence. You can look at my recent posts to see what server I transferred from and to. I logged off last night with confidence because our server made a good push to re-take half of our border lands. This morning, one server had control over everything. On all maps. My only guess is they have good oceanic. Outmanned would not necessarily help combat against guilds that have a great oceanic presence, and it isnt a one stop fix…but its a great start and MIGHT give those that play overnight a decent chance to retain some points.

Thoughts? Should more benefits be added to the outmanned buff? What should it be? Is the buff completely bogus and should be removed? Should they just forget the outmanned buff and think of other ways to help these servers? Or is transferring one’s only option?

cesmode.4257

To be honest, I am not sure I really even care if the server I am on is in the bottom tier, whichever server that may be in a few days(possibly still IoJ).

I just want the matchup to be fair, semi balanced. I want to be able to choose more than my own borderland. I don’t need to be on the server that wins every week, but I do want it to be some what competitive. Now, IoJ showed some real fighting spirit last night taking that garry. We proceeded to easily take the rest of the northern part of the map and even began tickling the south, until maguuma with a 5trillion man rush came in right as I was logging off.

This just sucks. I was on SBI since headstart, could not find a guild that I really liked there. I was/am mainly PVE focused so I never really ventured into WvW, but kept tabs. Top tier server until recently, and even still SBI has a great presence. Could not find a guild that suited me, but found one on IoJ that I do like and transferred here within the last 1-2 weeks. Nice dungeon runs, small guild, friendly folk. Tried WvW this past week and got hooked. Did not realize about all the guilds transferring off until I got hooked, and was really enjoying my new guild.

Now I am at a crossroads…Im pretty sure my small-ish guild will not transfer and they do not participate in WvW which urks me a little. I wish they would join me. It would be fun. I do like my guild, and I am beginning to recognize names in WvW(commanders and commonfolk alike). Beginning to feel a sense of community. And WvW is not all I want to do, I do play PVE half of the time at least, if not more so for my PVE experience, it is great! However, when I log into WvW which might be more in the near future, I want to not have the feats I helped accomplish the night before, be completely undone due to lack of oceanic presence and NA numbers in general. I want some fighting chance. Seeing this completely took the fight out of me, and I want to keep playing WvW because it is hella fun!

Decisions…Stick with IoJ and fostering the sense of community in WvW that I am seeing(which is great!) and stick with my awsome PVE guild. Or head back to SBI and try my luck finding a new guild / Find a different middle-tier server and a guild that has both PVE and WvW focus in mind(small-medium).

Wow. Just WoW. Arenanet, do a better job balancing next time. This is completely stupid. Logged in just to see WvW, 6:25 AM EST. Maguuma controlled, every single point there is to control, on all border lands. Everything. When I logged off last night around 11:30PM EST, IoJ controlled at least half of our borderland. This is just plain stupid.

Paid transfer announcement caused many to jump ship, which now causes us to fight with a fraction of the numbers. We cant even put anyone on any other maps except our own border lands.

Completely destroys motiviation to play WvW. Make sure your matchmaking system takes into account the number of WvW players that play for each server as well.

Second, there is no subscription. Come and go as you please. Arenanet is not required to keep you satisfied for an entire month, month to month because you are paying them a sub. They even said, its ok to play other games if you grow a bit bored. Come back when things perk your interest. They are not obligated to keep you playing. They’ve made a ton of money on the sales themselves, and the gem store is keeping them good for the players that feel arenanet deserves a 10 or 20 dollar reward every once in a while.

Third, your thought process leads to treadmills..always does.

For the last two nights, when I zone into a fractal, my dyes do not display properly.

Race/Gender/Profession: Human female warrior
Gear in question: Pants, Knights Draconic
Dye: Pastel Violet

When I zone into a fractal this specific gear slot turns into Grey or some variation of grey/beige. When I open up my character screen, it is displaying fine, however. I try to change the dye to another color and back again. Same problem.

Suggestion: daily and monthly achievements

in Suggestions

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

Hi,
So the main goal of the achievement reward system that is coming is to get people back into the world. I am assuming that the new achievements that might come would be something like “Kill 50 dredge” or “Kill 50 centaurs”. Or they could even be “Complete 50 dynamic events”.

For examples such as the above, might I suggest the following:
-Complete 50 dynamic events ranging from level 20 to 30.
or
-Complete 20 dynamic events in Kessex Hills, 20 dynamic events in Mount Malestrom, and 20 in Sparkfly Fen.

If you havent noticed, my point is that I think it would be wise for Arenanet not to leave it open to the player to choose where to complete these dynamic events. The player, for the most part, would choose the higher lvl zone each time because of the higher reward. If the achievement simply stated “Complete 50 dynamic events”(And some how excluded orr), the player will go to the highest level zone he can(fireheart rise, mount maelstrom, etc) because the rewards for completing these events are higher than a lvl 20 event, and the loot you get from drops could be lvl 70+ rares that might salvage into ectos.

I think it is important to get level capped players into OTHER zones other than the highest level zone, so that the other low level or mid level zones look and feel lively and populated.

If all the achievement says is kill 100 mobs, or complete 50 dynamic events, or kill 100 risen, we’ll all be farming the higher level zones. I really want to see other zones populated too.

No longer able to ress in combat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

cesmode.4257

There seems to be a lot of mix views on these changes, regarding WP rezzing, to come. Not sure if someone already suggested this but,

How about leaving story and exp mode the way it is. (With the wp rezzing and gaining the 60 tokens once per run at the end). Then add another mode on top of it called “Heroic mode” or something. In Heroic mode you can’t WP while your party is in combat and you get harder enemies. But you also get better loot and 80 tokens for completion. This way no WP in combat is optional for the players who want that real challenge.

Eh, ANOTHER mode…not what this game needs. That is going down the WoW path in wotlk. Normal, Heroic for dungeons. Then for raids you had 10/25 normal and heroic, then you could activate hardmodes in ulduar..gosh

Adding in another mode will just have people skipping explorable and just do this new heroic mode thing. I dont like it.

Just add in a few more waypoints to help out with wipes.

Just please add more waypoints to the dungeons. If we cannot rez in combat, and the group cant get the one or two people rezzed before the group wipes, theres going to be more runbacks. A simple quality of life addition would be a few more waypoints.

BTW, rez orbs will now be a commodity item. Anyone smell the gem store reering its head again for a bit more profit?! :p Its okay though.

Guesting is Coming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

@cesmode (OP): I agree that guesting will likely result in PVEers aggregating on certain servers to participate in fuller zones. I see this as a positive, not a negative. If nobody is in Orr on my home server, I’ll just go guest on a more populated world. The fact that other players are doing this, too, means a livelier zone for us all. The mitigating factor will be if a zone becomes too populated on a world, it will start folks in less populated overflow zones.

To other speculation in the thread:

- The point is not to make us buy gems to transfer. Guesting is free. There is no reason to transfer to get to the populated zones, just use the free guesting feature. There are no gems needed for this.

- Quoting AreaNet: “You still get influence for your home world guild when you are guesting.”: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guesting-is-Coming/1227596

- While guesting is billed as a way to “play with friends”, my impression is that they mean the normal English interpretation of “friend”, not the specific GW2 in-game list of “friends”. When you guest, you “click the ‘World Selection’ button [and] choose a world you would like to guest on and select the ‘Guest’ button.” (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guesting-is-coming/) The restriction list doesn’t mention needing a name in your “friend” list with a server as their home world in order to pick it. Why would they bother coding up that kind of a check? We’d just exchange names, anyway, no big deal.

They should just make it easier, shrink the number of servers if people will use it to find a better pve experience.

do you this this will further create a population problem on the lower populated servers?

Of course it will.

That’s the point. They want to force encourage people to buy gems to transfer to highly populated servers (which coincidently cost more to transfer too than low pop servers, how odd!).

How is allowing players the ability to PvE on higher population servers for FREE forcing encouraging them to transfer?

Yah, not sure what Bacon’s reasoning is or if he understands guesting. So when someone guests over to a more populated server for FREE, once every 24 hrs, to participate in more populated Orr zones, map completions, etc…would that not be further emptying already empty servers?

Guesting is Coming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

A concern I just thought of about guesting…not sure if its good or bad to be honest.

Scenario: For example, lets say I am on a lower populated server. I am trying to map complete in Orr, or just level in some zone. There are no players around, so I go guest on a higher populated server like Jade Quarry or Sea of Sorrows to be able to participate in Dynamic events, map complete with ease (so that maybe some of the cathedrals in Orr aren’t contested, etc). This would help ME, but does not strengthen my already empty server/zones.

If everyone, or at least a good amount of players, on an lower populated server guested over to a more populated server for goals like map completion and DE farming in Orr, do you this this will further create a population problem on the lower populated servers?

Something I wish I could remove from the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

I have to agree with the OP…in a certain way. I dont want to remove money from the game, i think that is a bit extreme. But the amount of trash skipping, the amount of boss glitching is out of control. Ive never played an MMO where we can skip 80% of a dungeon’s trash, get to the boss, and have a 50/50% of the boss being able to be glitched where damage is greatly reduced if not completely.

Concerning the spider queen encounter in TA: Since Anet is going to be revamping these dungeons, making some harder I’d imagine that they might make this boss reset if you try to pull her out of the egg cave. Id imagine that we will need to fight inside the cave, avoiding eggs and dealing with any cracked eggs/adds. They are going to make changes like that to dungeons. And I hope they do.

Im really sick of skipping every kitten pull for the sake of speed. Then, when someone falls behind, its a nightmare trying to get that person going again. Often does more damage than good. But then people avoid groups that have that potential. On gw2lfg.com they will post something to the effect of “LF1m, need warrior have mesmer, must know how to skip, 7 minute dungeon run, skipping all trash, full exotic”
I guess…my thief cant go on class alone? Stupid?

And allowing the sale of legendaries on the TP is probably the dumbest thing arenanet has ever done.

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re reading this thread.

Your logic, reasons, anecdotes and ideas are being listened to. Also keep in mind, that as I said yesterday, a skill can be a balance problem in one area of the game, but underpowered in another. That’s the nature of using one set of #‘s to balance across all areas of the game. So we’re keeping that in mind as we look at this. We may need to do different tweaks in different areas of the game.

We’re also not going to make a knee jerk reaction to this. We’re still gathering data, watching player trends, and having meetings on all possible ramifications from possible changes.

thank you for the answer, it calmed me down. If you think there’s a problem with AoE in WvW, nerf it in WvW, but not PVE, because nerfing AoE in PVE when some classes already have problems would effectively kill off engineers and staff builds of mesmer, elementalist and necromancer.

No prob. Some classes have a ton of AOE, while others don’t have as much. So we’re not just going to do a blanket nerf to all AOE – that’s not fair to all classes. We’ll go on a class by class, weapon by weapon basis.

And as I’ve said, we may need to tone something down in one area of the game, but it may be totally fine in another area.

For some weapon sets, the AOE options may be too strong compared to the single target options, which is what we aim to address.

Well put, and thanks for clarifying that. I don’t play an elementalist much, only lvl 40, but I would recommend against nerfing staff elementalists for obvious reasons. D/D elementalists also would suffer greatly as might stacking relies on aoe abilities. Think this one through.

I would also like to suggest that you consider breaking up nerfs to aoe to be pvp or pve specific. I mainly play PVE and it is not fair to me to have, for example, cluster bomb on my thief nerfed if it is OP in PVP.

I think so. The current interface allows you to click up or down fractal levels.

Actually, I have one additional question about fractals, and Im sure this is on the mind of most:
For example, if I am fractal level 5 (no agony resist) and I enter a fractal level 20…will I be targeted with agony? I have yet to see an arenanet post, blog, or interview on this question and I think its a pretty important question. Something we definitely should know before joining that high level fractal group.

This question is more for arenanet if they choose to answer it here or not, however feel free to comment on it with your thoughts. I don’t think its been answered yet, so anything any of us say is pure speculation.

Housing is a definite. Ive never played a game where they’ve had housing, so this would be really neat! Too bad its not that high on their radar, but they have bigger fish to fry.
Sandbox in PVP is a neat idea..put that into World vs World would be awsome. Preselected plots for structures. Go to this preselected area, and help some wood logger and NPCs gather wood from a nearby forest(like a regular PVE event). This way, PVE players can really contribute to World vs World without killing one player.

Its not even about being completely decked in exotics, or even rares. The level 16 does not even have a full bar of utilities or an elite skill. The level 16 might be a completely new player to the game, found out about fractals on the forums and is trying to get into a run. Disaster!

Yes, my choice to leave the group and find another, but sometimes it DOES take 10-20 minutes to find a fractal group your level.

why not just make skills different in the different game modes? like in Guild wars 1, when you entered pvp, the skills changed or behaved differently in function. why not just change skills based on game mode or type?

i’m sad they haven’t announced new weapons/new swappable skills for existing weapons/new utilities and elite skills. This is what i want the most! Not use the same utilities/weapons weeks after weeks of playing no matter if i’m in wvw, dungeon or spvp… Don’t take 1 year to release new skills for us to play with or you will lose people.

what both of you have mentioned are my biggest concerns for the game currently.

i’m am starting to feel that we will be stuck with things “as is” for a long time without any meaningful or robust changes to gameplay mechanics, individual character performance, builds, options and such.

we will probably get some minor tweaks while the main focus will be for players to buy gems to purchase gear that changes build performance.

tldr…
this console game calling itself an mmo probably won’t change much so get use to key 1, dodge rolls, self heals, run to tank while teams dps spam, die-rez-die-rez support, making cool “me too” pvp videos and buying moar gems for junk.

John Sharp(or was it Mike) said that they could not get into that…could not give specifics. Which leads me to believe that they have some plans and idearrsss. I think in the next 6 month’s we’ll see new abilities. Definitely.
.

SIX MONTHS, that is an eternity spamming boring/bad/broken skills we’re already spamming for 5 months… If i was a dev i’d give everyone a new weapons every three months to refresh gameplay/builds until every class can wield every weapon and then, for expansion include tones of swapabble skills for existing weapons.

And when they put in new spells, after 3 month’s youll come back here saying these spells are boring/broken/bad.

People are just never happy. I agree we do need new abilities, but in the grand scheme of things this is so far down the priority list most likely. Bugs/strengthening the world/bots/boosting all PVP/fixing dungeons up…probably the heavy hitters. Dont hold your breath on new weapon skills.

I seriously doubt necro AoE damage (what damage?) is the problem they are looking at. Maybe they’ll just change the rest of the classes AoE’s to the same standard.

Probably looking at ele d/d damage, thief shortbow damage (probably more, cant think off top of my head).

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

I don’t think AOE is necessarily the problem, rather everyone and their mother just sits at range and aoes. If melee was a bit more viable, especially in the massive fights, aoe wouldnt be as much of a problem.

I think they mentioned this, and I completely agree: AoE should have diminishing returns depending on the number of targets its hitting. Many games do this. And it will impact PVE a lot less. If you have an aoe spell hitting 10 or more targets, the damage reduces by X.

In dungeons, most of the time you are fighting no more than 4 or 5..Very rarely are you fighting a pack of 10+ mobs, CoF devourer event aside, and a lot of times these packs of mobs die from a wet fart anyways.

Q: Dynamic system in open worlds – how will it evolve – make it more understandable, more rewards

Changes to Orr at end of month – adding some new effects, environment zones, rewards
Continue building lore/story – between content patches we will add in new events, new guild stuff.

My gosh, people…everytime theres some big announcement everyone freaks out. Yes, I freaked out about ascended gear with everyone else but that shook up the core of the game. Tweaks to AoE, tweaks to how dungeon bosses and mechanics are handled, come on. This will not ruin your universe. You’ll adapt in a week and forget about it.

Personally, I like the no rez in combat. In any other game, you cannot do that. I think its rediculous. It definately does encourage waypoint zerging a boss until its dead, sometimes completely throwing out strategy and team work. This is not a bad change, get over it.

About AOE: I dont know how I feel about it, but Im sure it wont wreck my world. Whether they nerf specific aoe spells or aoe across the board. Again, most games have diminishing returns when you use aoe on more than a specified number of targets. I would prefer they keep PVP and PVE changes seperate, however.

I would also like them to change how trash mobs are in dungeons. Now, I can skip all trash and make it through to the next area in a dungeon just like anyone else, but it often leads to disaster. One person falls behind and dies. We have to wait for that person, or concoct some whacky plan to rez him/her. Never in all of my MMO gaming experience have I seen so many players wanting to skip half of a dungeon. I understand the need for speed runs. But sometimes its just..“We will skip everything between bosses”. Its insane. More often than not it does more damage than good and I would like a change to the trash mobs in dungeons. I do not want them to lose aggro from you after running a certain distance. If you run through a pack of wolves, they will chase you until you turn and fight them. Thats how it should be. lts hilarious to see posts on gw2lfg.com, “lfg warrior must have power/prec/crit gear, speed run, 7 minutes, know how to skip everything”. Really? Can you be more specific about what it is you want?
