@Vayne: And how do you propose to make EVERY zone more appealing. In fact, I’ll go one better.
I don’t know how to make ALL zones more appealing, but they could at least make zones that have World Bosses more appealing, instead of having players waiting at the exact same spot for the boss to spawn, they could give incentive to those players for going around the zone, while they wait for the timer.
How to accomplish this without a new currency (we already have loads)
Add a new stackable ability, like Bloodlust/Life/Luck etc that increases when you are finishing events, each successful event adds another stack, until you either change zones or maybe until you die (arguable). This new stack will give you a boost in gold/karma/experience and it could also give a Magic Find boost to the big final chest. Chest loot is unaffected by Magic Find, but making the new stack affect chest drops will go a long way in making players roam around and do events in the zone, before fighting the big boss, players will stay in the zone, players will populate the zone etc
Thats actually interesting. The more dynamic events you do… Also, we should be allowed to repeat hearts. There were some fun ones I would redo.
ANet may have frequent content updates but the difference between this MMO and the rest is, you get through GW2 content in a day… no matter what it is.
We. Need. Raids.
…or something similar that is actually going to last in between these tiny updates. Is it really their goal to get us to log in for a day then take another month break? I guess so, since no monthly fee.
No. We. Dont.
Go. Play. Wow. Besides, you clear a WoW raid in a week or two anyways. Only difference is, you paid 15$ for that.
What we need is more fractal maps. We also need mini-dungeons that one or two people can tackle, like chronicles from Rift.
@Vayne: And how do you propose to make EVERY zone more appealing. In fact, I’ll go one better. If Anet makes every zone more appealing all at the same time, you’ll have no one to play with in the world.
What I would do are one of two things:
1. Make rewards from all DEs scale with your level, completely 100%. A DE in queensdale gives the same amount of silver, xp, and karma as one in Orr. The only issue is, how do you entice people to farm Orr (which is arguably the most difficult zone to move around at times). Orr specific currency(dare I say it..this game has too many currencies) where you purchase..whtever I dont know. Otherwise, you get the same rewards. This enables the player to choose where he/she wants to have fun. Killing a troll and Oak heart over and over in queensdale? Defending a bridge in Kessex? Opening the gate to CoF? Whatever you want, play how you want. Thats a core premise of the game, isnt it?
2. Same as above, but each zone reward a different currency to purchase different items. Maybe skins that are unique to that zone’s theme? Everyone loves skins! Now, trust me I HATE the thought of adding more currencies intothe game. But this would truely enable the player to play whever they want, receive the same XP/Gold/Karma as if they were in Orr, and be working toward, ahah!, character progression in terms of aesthetics.
Either queensdale at night, or Blazeridge mountains, the ..scarred, black/purple area where shatterer appears. The look of that area is awsome and I wish an entire zone would be just like that. I think theres a similar area near ebonhold.
But my favorite place to play? I have none…
Theres already a thread with this.
As stated, right now I am slowly coming back and playing casually until I decide what I want to devote my time and resources to. One legendary, or a slew of mystic forge skins. Some feedback on my dilemma would be appreciated
One thing to note, as I said earlier, I will buy my pre cursor off of the TP(unless some other pre cursor drops and I can sell it for most of the cost of my precursor) . I will either find it by dumb luck(not likely) or throw countless duplicates of a weapon into the forge.
The one thing where this guy is completely off the mark: Arenanet HAS to receive some % of gem store sales. They do get paid, they have hired a lot since launch, because the game is growing. Where is his proof that the 10$ I might spend goes 100% to NCSOFT. How does he know? His perception on what he read in that article? You are raging about that?
Also, early on they said they are going to make frequent smaller updates…get this, for free.
Look, I respect your optimism but you have to lower the pink glasses at some point. Lookin at what is happening now, you can be pretty sure that alot of money goes to NCSoft and not to ArenaNet. Usually, the publisher gets more money per sale than the developer.
And just because the game is growing doesn’t mean that it’s all fine and dandy for ArenaNet. Most living story updates seemed.. underwhelming compared to what Arena Net had in mind, I’m sure. You do have some valid points and as I said Dontain’s arguments are a little off here and there, but to me it seems like ArenaNet’s design philosophies are altered by NCSoft’s plan to cater the game towards an RNG heavy grindfest-liking audience in form of the Korean market that makes up more than 5 times of the sales that Europe/NA do.
Im not saying its 50/50. But the guy in the vid is making it sound like arenanet gets nothing. I just dont think that is the case. And I don’t think this guy has enough evidence to support his claim.
@techenon: Thats what Ive been saying about ascended gear from the start.
From arenanet/fanbois of ascended gear:
“Its not a gear grind”
“We will introduce the gear slowly so you have a lot of time to acquire. Over the next year you should have all slots”
Great. So we spend a year or more slowly acquiring these pieces, and then enjoy a few months of having a full ascended set. Then when they do announce an expansion, and if they do increase the level cap, all of that ascended gear is obsolete. We will go through the next few levels, and then get to the new level cap. Once there, the grind for the new level cap ascended gear begins, and this cycle continues.
There are other games that follow this model: WoW, Tera, Rift, etc. To not call this a gear grind, however slow, is naieve.
Also, when he compares WoW. Blizzard takes your 15$ a month for 6 months, and then gives you content in the form of a new dungeon, a new raid, and a new island. Takes 15 bucks for another 15 months, and then gives you the same three things,
Arenanet gave you content for for free, much more frequently.
The one thing where this guy is completely off the mark: Arenanet HAS to receive some % of gem store sales. They do get paid, they have hired a lot since launch, because the game is growing. Sure I would, on one condition:
IF the level cap is increased, our ascended gear is upleveled too…or something like that. I dont want to spend another year or so grinding out ascended gear. I dont want to get to the tippy top of BiS gear with this game, and then have an expansion completely wipe out my efforts because as I gain new levels past 80, my gear becomes obsolete. Kind of thought that crap would go away with this game. If I want that, I’ll play a game like WoW, Tera, Rift, or Neverwinter(already do play this one at the moment).
I dont care if they increase the level cap, I just dont want my gear to become obsolete at the new level cap. I would want it as powerful then as it is now.
Because legendaries are end game, BIS items and personal story isn’t really all that hard?
Talk for yourself. Id rather bang my head against a brick wall whilst getting run over by a truck than do the personal storyline again.
Oh comon, dealing with Trahearne isn’t that difficult..
Vol! Id rather jump off the tallest building in America and hope to catch my eyelid on a nail, than listen to Trahearne say “Commanduh, a word please” one more time.
Right now Im at a crossroads:
Choices:
1. Continue to grind gold to buy my pre cursor — Looking like this wont happen as I was only able to save about a fourth of what I need up to this point.
2. Spend all of what I have on resources to throw crap into the mystic toilet — More desirable than buying a precursor. I dont want to give any one person that amount of gold.
3. Spend what resources I have on the Mystic Forge recipes/skins. They are pretty stud looking. Maybe slightly less appealing than the legendary, but a huge leap from most crappy exotics.
Precursors are both in an annoying and good state, in my opinion. While it’s good that they are somewhat costy and not available instantly, it’s still quite annoying that you have to rely on luck to get one.
The only reward system I can think at the moment is that you must reach a certain amount of achievements and then you can choose your precursor.
Like, you must have Dungeon Master title, you must’ve completed the whole Personal Story, you must have one of the PvP titles (like Champion Paragon,Champion, Magus Champion Shadow, etc) and have 100% Map completion.
But of course, people would whine kittenloads with ‘’Why do I have to do PvP for my PvE weapon’’
The WvWvW Map completion whine is already enough :P
I dont think you need dungeon master title. I have a bookmark of what I need for the Dreamer, and nowhere does it say I must complete all dungeons.
So….no new updates on the Scav. Hunt? No timeframe indication or anything? This is still in fledgeling state?
:(
Hi,
Specifically on the servers that havent seen a hue drop in Orr population in past months..but is Orr losing people to southsun? Normally there are people camping peninent and shelters..I was doing both alone on my server, and thats never happened.
A few ideas from other games:
Instant Adventures(rift) — Queue up and be ported to a location in the open world where you are completing public quests(sure dynamic events) with many people that have queued for the same. Other adventurers will not see or be able to participate unless they have queued.
Skirmishes (WoW scenarioes, neverwinter skirmishes) — Queue up for quick 15 minute battles. Storm a keep, defend a keep, defend XYZ, blah blah. Quick 5 man group battles for decent reward/xp/etc.
Solo skirmishes — Same as above, but solo.
Chronicles (Rift) — Heavy story related 1 or 2 man dungeons. A lot of story and lore, takes 20-30 or 45 mins to complete.
BAMS (Tera) — Big kitten Monsters. Open world mobs that require coordination of a group of people. The mob hits like a truck, has unique abilities, and takes more than 20 seconds of zerging(thinking 5-10 minutes). Southsun is a perfect locale for this. Monster Hunting!
Replay story content — self explainatory.
OH. Yah, I figured..because that would be a bit exploit..ative..no? I thought you meant general MF doesnt work in Orr. I was like..erm..you sure?
Why cant you?
I came back a week or so ago..mainly just doing dallies, a few dragon chests, maybe a fractal or two, a dungeon run or two..nothing too crazy.
Not sure when you left, the game is pretty much the same as when I left in early march. As far as I know, Necro hasnt changed much. I didnt think it needed changing. I run my vampire build on it and I love it. I do fine in dungeons and fractals with it.
lol. Jokes aside though…would be nice to know who is rezzing me so I can thank that person, or vice versa. Often I rez many people, over and over…its a thankless job that I don’t need to do(or be thanked for or noticed), but this is a simple addition Id imagine.
indeed, but which gentle soul
and I think its a noble soul.
Hi,
So when someone is in the downed state, or dead, it would be nice to have the game tell you who is reviving you. Often, I try to make it a point to stop dps and revive as much as possible. It would be nice to let the people know who helped them out
Interesting
i didnt pinpoint to any mob.
Hi,
I took a break from the game in early March, came back a week or so ago. Ive noticed that often, melee hits(especially on my warrior) do not make the melee hit sound. I hear the whiffing of my sword and everything else, just not the sound that the blade makes when it hits the target…visceral combat.
I dont know if its because I transferred to a more populated server, but this is anywhere I go in game, and often.
I agree with most, but as per my opinion, you are off the mark on some…
1. Agree.
2. Agree.
3. Agree.
4. Disagree. I cannot earn ascended gear for all available slots just by running dungeons. 40 Laurels and 50 ectos for the accessories I believe. I dont know about you, but I don’t get many rares to salvage into ectos for explorable dungeon runs. Also, you can only get Ring and the backpiece from fractals, and you must run fractals to get the back piece(theres a mat that only drops in fractals that is required). So, I disagree. If all I wanted to do was farm for armored scales and run CoF over and over, I cannot get all of the ascended pieces. I’ll have to change it up to finish the daily and/or enter fractals.
5. Agree.
6. Agree.
7. Disagree. Endgame gear = ascended gear = increase for stats as you mentioned. Also, when ascended weapons are released, legendaries will no longer be the same sats as Exotics. Hence, the treadmill continues.
8. Agree somewhat.
9. Did not partcipate, was on hiatus.
I use my P/P on my thief for high end fractals(infact I just leave him specced p/p).
I hate backstab thief in dungeons and PVE.
D/D condition build is fun, but when condition stacks are capped at 25, I feel it can become lackluster. Not to mention, shortbowing as a condition thief is weak IMO.
I think any other combo adds more utility and support than it does damage. P/P keep me at range, and with my spec Im constantly able to dodge and grab stacks of might. Win/Win
I like the idea of a blade oriented class that is not like the thief or warrior. However, calling the class mechanic “breathe” makes me think of that Colby Calet song of “Belly Breathe” on Sesame street. If you have kids, you know what Im talking about.
It is still random loot from the tables. You still have a chance at rares, exotics, and even precursors.
I stopped playing shortly after the change and came back this week. The only rares or exotics that Ive received have been from the side chest that appears in your window, never from the chest sitting on the ground in the world.
I guess I’m really unlucky? Would make sense…I did pump in about 140 rares into the mystic toilet last night to receive about a dozen or so exotics, no pre cursor.
Hi,
With the change in how rare items are awarded after killing a dragon, or some event that rewards a chest at the end, what is the point of the chest itself? Two or three blues, maybe a green? Junk to me. Might as well give me the silver I would receive by vendoring the blue/green armor and weapons. Save me the trip to a vendor, and save me the bag space.
Since these items would rarely result in Ancient Wood, or Ori ore, or some T6 material, I really see no point in this.
Hi,
A suggestion to address the personal story problems with a race change:
Reset the story to 0 and offer the starter quest in the starter zone. Thats the trade off. A pop up appears on your screen…
“By selecting ‘I agree’ you acknowledge that your current personal story progress, achievements, titles, and personality decisions will be reset to 0”
Difficult PvE content.
Curious, which MMO has/had difficult content?
I’ll be honest, some of the places in Neverwinter are a pain…some of the bosses make you pull your head out, and there are many times when questing that you aggro a bit too many mobs and you probably will go down..happens a lot in fact.
A predator drone…used by engineers and…warriors?
Kidding.
Someone mentioned a whip, which I think would be really cool. TBH, Ive never played an MMO that had a whip as a weapon.
Thief and mesmer(I guess)
People are always complaining about this, but I never see/saw it. I never saw it with my 4-5 months on SBI, then my two months on IoJ and now on Dragonbrand.
Simple Quality of Life features…many of them. If I had to narrow it down to one:
-Ability to swap between gearsets\builds
Although it would be a good idea to have a dev or mod come in here squash this before this “idea” spreads like a wildfire in the forum community.
I dont think arenanet would do this. They saw the backlash of introducing it in the first place. They have always said the following:
-You can do all content without agony, except fractals up to a certain level)
-Play how you want(if they introduced this, then we would NEED to grind agony)
I dont think they would go back on either of those statements. If they did, I’m not sure I’d even come to the forums to complain about it. I’d log off and delete GW2 without having a second thought.
I never tip the mesmers that portal me. Bad enough I let them in the guild. lol
Haha. I love mesmers, but not in pvp. Hell Ive had half a thought to switch to my mesmer as my main.
I tipped 50 silver i think.
How much did you guys tip, if any at all, for a portal to the sample/chest ?
How come there are way more focii than anything else to be created in the mystic toilet?
Ah but what will I do with the 30 some odd mystic clovers that I now have? Store them scavenger hunt? At that point I will have spent a decent amount of resources on these mystic forge recipes.
Man i wish I knew about these sooner
There are many Mystic Forge weapons that not many people are using:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items
Dude you just made my day…I think. Some of those models are stud and may even be better than the legendaries in some people’s eyes.
However, one of my true endgame goals was the grind for the legendary…might not need half of that grind for one of these.
I feel Mr Prometheus should be considered a famous player, at least for me
Played a elementalist since launch and gave up for a few months. It was Mr Prometheus’s mesmer guide that gave me the push to replay GW2
and choose a Mesmer instead, and guess what? I Love Mesmers so muchNot sure if he’s still playing tho, he has not been updating his Youtube video for awhile now.
I agree. His mesmer vids made me want to play one(and I did).
@Snowmoon:
You dropped the W-bomb! Mentioning that game is going to derail this thread, so I’ll only respond to that once. What makes WoW so successful for so many years, and still, is that it hit the market at the right time(when there were few alternatives in supply) and demand for this type of game kept getting higher. Thats it. It took successes from previous games, hit the market at the right time and appealed to the largest playerbase with a game that could perform on ANY machine. After that, the players did the work. Building memories and friendships. Now, people play out of nostalgia and because their friends play(generally). I do not think the majority would say the world of Azeroth is better than Tyria…or that the leveling experience or combat in WoW is better than GW2/Neverwinter/Tera. I don’t think that Arenanet can look at wow and take from their successes because it is an intangible reason for its success. Timing and availability.
I agree, uphill battle indeed. I would love for more dungeons for more cosmetics. I would love to be able to swap out armor LOOKS…same armor and stats, but a set of transmogrification.
Sorry if I am unclear, I am on a teleconference right now
Im no where near completing all of that stuff. 900 hours in, only 72% map complete on one toon, 5 chars max level with 3 infull exotic/mostly ascended. I haven’t done half the dungeons, and probably a fraction of the paths…by choice though. Only ran the ones I needed so far.
I wouldnt have too much problem repeating once I finish everything. But I couldnt do that for a year waiting for an xpac.
A Happy Thread, by Cesmode.
If anyone looks at my post history, they can see that I started off vehemently defended and posted positive things about GW2. After the Nov. 15 patch, that changed and gradually my thoughts on the game and the development direction continued to be more negative and filled with scrutiny until I took a break from the game in early March with the raids, ahem Guild Missions were introduced.
In the last few days, I have returned to complete the living story, which while short and might have lacked a bit of substance, but this is what most games should strive toward to make their world full of people.
I still disagree with the choice/decision/“peer pressure” induced decision to go along with item/stat progression via ascended gear. I do think the game has way too many currencies for its own good. I do think that without a relaxed mindset, one simply completes the daily for the Laurel and signs out. I do think that guild missions create a “raid like” atmosphere(albeit dummed down) and the need to schedule your life around the guild mission events so you don’t miss out. I do think that something needs to be done about the legendary precursors. I do think that the development of GW2 has strayed from the “play however you want to” mindset, just a tad. And I still don’t think GW2 is a completely unique snowflake anymore(only unique in some aspects).
But I do think that GW2 gets many more things correct than it doesnt. I commend Arenanet’s art team for a gorgeous landscape and environment. I commend arenanet on the most MMO experience you can get, and for free via dynamic events, etc(after box price). I commend arenanet on challenging content via fractals. I commend arenanet on some of the best stories I’ve seen in an MMO. I commend Arenanet on a reactive and deep combat system that is second only to Tera(gone are the days of stand-still combat). I commend Arenanet for doing the Cash-Shop correctly!! I commend Arenanet for continuously adding to this game, and not just the level-cap zones. I commend Arenanet for a dye and armor system that encourages completely different looks and styles amongst characters/classes. I commend Arenanet on an ENJOYABLE leveling experience. I commend arenanet on providing me a game where I can fulfill my exploration needs(those portals to the mini-dungeons are stud). I commend arenanet for adding mini-games and activities such as keg brawls and Jumping Puzzles. I commend arenanet on their festive holiday events that really liven up the game. I commend arenanet on a talent system where I can really make it my own, and succeed in this type of game without a cookie cutter spec. I commend arenent on providing some PVP laced with PVE in the form of WvW. I commend Arenanet on fantastic character models, not only of the player but of mobs as well. I commend arenanet on fantastic audio in the environmental sounds and of the sounds in combat. I commend arenanet on a crafting system that is actually useful (in terms of XP gain) while leveling. I commend arenanet for all of the tiny interlaced stories hidden throughout the world, in the form of dynamic events(just listen to some NPCs bicker back and forth sometimes).
For all of my negative posts and rants, here is one for you Arenanet. A positive tone. Keep up the good work. Do not lose sight of your original design objectives. Keep adding to the game and keep adding polish. I DO think that this game is the best MMO on the market, even if I became irate about its direction a few months ago(and still am to an extent). And I pledge to try to look at this game with a more positive outlook, a more casual outlook and no take things so seriously, and to simply enjoy the game.
/cheers
I have about 150…took two months off since March, slowly coming back…been playing since headstart, nearly 900 hours played.
Im hoping that ANY precursor drops..that I can sell to make up at least 3/4 of the cost of the precursor that I would need. Im hoping this happens by the end of the summer or I am just done with the game completely. 1 year, more time spent in game than most people with more than one precursor drop..BS. I give the game 3 more months.
Hi,
So I spent 125 gems on one flame dye kit. Never did I think that the dye would indentify as something that I already have unlocked!! What a waste of kitten money.
I really thought that arenanet/GW2 would be fair/intuitive enough to not give you a dye that you already have when you spend gems.
Lame and unfair.
Im not going to whine too much about it, but I want my 125 gems back. This is kind of cheap.
I dont thinkPVE is shallow. Some of the best PVE content and interwoven mini stories with each DE. Very nicely done. I thnk this game has as much longevity as WoW does. Arenanet just needs to stop with the currency grinds.
