The Abjured didn’t win due to having 2 cele eles, they won because they rotated and knew where to not fight (as in, where their competition was strongest), along with the insane job Magic Toker did to back cap.
And they were able to do that because … ?
Oh right, they had 2 extremely mobile dps bunker (aka D/D ele).
As it was stated before, I think every profession is in a good place, with one particular ele build being over-performing and ranger still being a bit lackluster in team fights. If I had to rank the professions, I’d say the following:
1) Elementalist
2) Necromancer, Mesmer, Guardian, Thief
3) Warrior, Engineer
4) RangerNotice that every profession but ranger sees a lot of use in major tournaments. Anet: fix dd ele, give ranger a valuable, skillful team fight mechanic, and you’ll achieve your best balance so far.
I’d swap necro and engi but this.
DPS guard (burn guard) is ok but a little cheesy.
Old DPS medit guard is not that good and very easy to outplay.
DPS warrior is overall stronger i’d say, but it’s not in a very good place either.
DPS warrior probably have the highest damage out of any class (in PvP) but it’s way harder to land and its survivability is pretty low compared to other dps classes like mesmer. It’s probably the hardest dps build to pull off right now, but when you do it definitely feel rewarding.
Did you read what I wrote or did you just skim through it?
Skins for what? Champions? Why don’t you give an simple example of how guild wars 2 could be monetize that makes making it f2p worthwhile from a business standpoint. Something that will generate revenue.
Also I notice since you replied to me that you did not give me an example of an PvP only MMORPG, why do you think those are rare or nonexist? (I know you did not bring it up).
Yes people buy skins for champions. And you could very well do the same system in GW, heck they’re actually doing it right now, selling armor and weapon skins for gems.
So that’s how you monetarize it, you just sell armor and weapon skins to those ugly kitten lvl1 characters.
And yes, you can buy gems with in game gold, but considering what PvP player earn, they will still buy gems if they don’t want to farm for 3 months to buy a skin.
Also I didn’t answer to the MMORPG part of the question because I don’t know much MMORPG in general.
You’re a top tier player. That’s just it.
In LoL top tier player can get on average 30m+ Q, so I guess we’re okay.
So, as a warrior whay you’re gonna use the most is firefield -> arcing arrow -> get might -> profit.
This combo can be done with LB alone, you also have cross weapon combos like firefield into earthshaker, firefield into call to arms and firefield into savage leap. Those are the most commonly used warriors combos.
You also have pin down and smoldering arrow through firefield to add an little bit of extra burning damage.
If you want to see how GS/LB plays, you can watch this :
http://www.twitch.tv/tarcisanastasis/v/9114941
(edited by chibbi.3706)
To max dmg on your LB you just have to use it as condi weapon. Power LB is not that strong. Take GS + Rifle, if you insist to play GS + range weapon.
I see this a lot on forums bu that’s pretty wrong actually. Longbow is an amazing power weapon, here’s why :
- is a decent auto attack, not rly amazing but who cares about auto attacks ?
- deals kittening glorious damage in a power build. In my zerker greatbow each hit crit for something between 1400 and 1800. And it hit 3 times, + about 1k burn damage which is the cherry on the top. All of this while being 1/4s cast time.
- deals ridiculous damage, I’ve just hit an 8k arcing arrow on an engi. And it’s also a blast finisher.
- and 5 are sheer utility skills and are good in any builds.
F1 is :
-A fire field that you can blast yourself with #3, and your allies can blast it too
-decent direct damage
– Guaranteed damage buff through berserker’s power
– guaranteed condi cleanse through cleansing ire
Also longbow enables you to proc leeching sigil from range, which is often pretty usefull.
So please, how exactly is Longbow a bad power weapon ?
And rifle is just super bad. It doesn’t bring anything, F1 is terrible, 5) is useless most of the time since you want to stay close for when you’re going to swap back to GS, 3) is decent but too slow and the rest is nothing.
And about the having one slow and one “fast” weapon. You then talk about sword. Only thing fast about sword is the auto attack, but honestly who cares about auto attacks ? Most of the time you won’t be able to auto much, besides against very immobile classes like necro. And I really don’t see what’s the problem from having 2 slow weapons, especially when GS is rly not that slow.
I can’t showcase the build myself because I don’t stream and I’m way too lazy to do youtube videos, but if you want to see what it’s capable of you can check Tarcis’ past broadcast.
(edited by chibbi.3706)
GS/LB is more reliable and overall stronger I think.
Warriors aren’t that bad, and there are other (stronger imo) builds than GS/Hammer.
I wouldn’t mind a fix on rush though, if the target is moving 80% of the time it will faill and rush the air.
They should just make it not tied to the gear. Sometimes I gotta flex my giant norn pecs and don’t want to wear a shirt, why should I lose 400 armor…
Not to worry, there are chest armors that shows your pecs AND your abs !
just make F2P Players not get loot and u will force them to the gemshop for skins -> money.
That, however, would be bad. You need to get something when playing games, it feels good and gives you the incentive to continue playing. People would still buy gems because it’ll go faster.
In dota you get skins by playing, it’s just a lot slower than by paying.
There is no point in making it f2p. There are very few ways to monetize MMORPG PvP games to make it worthwhile to f2p. Mobas can be f2p because you need to buy heroes, MMORPG however do not have that benefit and thus does not make it worthwhile.
Finally, how many people will give up LoL to come play guild wars 2. The point being making it f2p is a waste of money and resources.
It is easy to ask for things OP when you don’t have to think about the logistics and the difficulty it is to convert a game to f2p and still find ways to generate income without making it too causing a backlash.
Can you list more than 2 f2p PvP mmorpg ONLY games?
You don’t need to buy heroes or anything in DotA and F2P still works perfectly fine. As a matter of fact i’m pretty sure 90% of the real money transaction are done in order to buy skins and not champions in LoL. (at least everyone I know never bought any champion with real money, but bought from a few to a lot of skins.)
And to answer the fears about community, as someone who plays both, GW2 community (in PvP) is not that much better than LoL.
(edited by chibbi.3706)
How do you even get 17 stacks of burning against an ele ?
And necros is not the only class that has answers to burning.
(Don’t get me wrong, I thing burning applications could be toned down, and ele is definitely op, but comon try to at least make reasonable argument)
There are already other tournaments for lesser teams to compete in/
It’s been more than 2 weeks now and still not even a god kitten answer from Anet let alone a solution.
Really seems like you guys want people to quit your game.
Call me when we’re discussing something important like the most attractive or most manly Warriors.
Those would both be me.
I would say blacktruth is first, and everyone else is scrubs compared to him so i’m not gonna bother ranking them.
I hope you’re kidding, because PvP is the only skill indicator that GW2 has. The players mentioned (Lypion, Rom, Amsterdam etc.) are clearly the best warriors in the game, be it with or without a team.
What has WvW to do with this? Whilst Sizer isn’t the best 1v1 player, he’s certainly one of the best thieves mechanically and rotation wise. WvW is some gimmick kitten where you can easily oneshot people. The damage is so much higher and things like Buffs, Stacks and Food contribute to even more imbalances. Give him full asc, buffs and food and he’ll probably win just as much as in pvp.
Why do wvw players still don’t get that PvP is the only place where dueling is on even grounds?
Well, I would like to not talk about those who got oneshot in wvw.
And no, PvP mode is nowhere near a skill indicator.
WvW isn’t either, but is much better than PvP mode due to the sole fact that it has more viable builds per class than PvP mode does. And if it’s about sizer – well, like some thief already said to me – rotation and skill wise, he’s great in PvP, but in WvW he’s decent, because 1st – PvP mode rotation and landscape means nothing in WvW, 2nd – people aren’t bound to Amulet and it’s static stat boost.
What does it mean?
What’s so squishy in PvP, can be tougher and still hit like a truck. And mentioning buffs and food…please.
I’m not denying Sizer’s skill here, but point is simple.
WvW offer better pvp and skill quality than PvP arena, by simply making viable all builds that are not viable in PvP arena.
Actually you can use the terrain more in PvP than in WvW, which adds to the skillcap.
And your 2nd point is exactly why PvP is more balanced than WvW. For example conditions are super kittened in WvW because of the availability of dire stats and/or +40% condi duration food.
(edited by chibbi.3706)
Now about the topic, it is a very good implement, however it NEEDS to bring soloQ back with it, otherwise solo players will be left in the corner.
SoloQ is mandatory to a competitive PvP game, even if it’s a team based game because
1) it enable solo player to be noticed by teams or other players trying to make a team
2) it gives a competitive environment to people who does not have enough time available to be part of a team
Looks like they’re trying to go towards something that looks like LoL system with the leagues, so why not copying all the way and separating solo (duo) Q to team Q ?
needed change, the big downside is that soloq = teamq….. anyone who doesn’t/can’t have a team gets crap
Well, we’ll get a blogpost about it. I hope they talk about queues in it and they have a change planned for them.
from what i read/saw from video so far teamq and soloq won’t be separated :|
is anyone seriously going to try climbing leagues solo? seems like a deathwish.
yeah explain it devs now because they don’t pvp (due to lack of time, according to them)
I haven’t qued solo for months. if I’ve got no guildies on i just go make a smoothie or log onto Black Desert. solo is too much of a gamble if you are trying to actually get the legendary. you will get things like scrub condi thieves, or no bunker comps etc and loose matches leaving you stuck in divisions 3/4.
team games where rotation and comp matter are stupid to play solo.
Well, LoL is even more reliant on teamplay, rotations and teamcomp, and yet soloQ works extremely well and your soloQ rank gives a good representation of your level.
Honestly your post sounds like bad LoL player who spend their time trying to explain how they’re stuck at a bad rating because of their badluck.
To everyone saying abjured didn’t win cuz double ele but cuz they outrotated etc.
The fact that they had double ele helps A LOT to outrotate the enemy team. When a class is so mobile, while being impossible to fight 1v1 and can sustain a 1v2 on point for a while and still disengage after that, and when you have 2 of that, of course you’re gonna outrotate the opponent.
Dude, oRNG left their points unwatched all the time. They zerg around fighting +1 +2.
The rule is if you +1 for more than 15s and still can’t kill, gotta leave and check the points. That’s basic rotation for any semi-competitive team. They got lost in the zerg fights.
Ok so who do you suggest watch the point ?
Tage has to be in teamfights to be effective.
Rom is a zerker warrior, he can’t and shouldn’t watch a point.
Frae is a dps guard, while it can be okayish to hold the point, he has no way to disengage a fight if he gets ganked, and dying leads to a lot of kitten.
Sindrener is a thief, in no way a point holder.
That leaves only denshee (the ele, what a surprise), but since he can’t be everywhere and there is 3 points, this leads to leaving some points unattended.Checking points doesnt mean holding points..
It means literally ‘checking’. Just let the thief or the ele go to the other points while watching minimap and counting the enemies while giving enemies’ location.Mostly its thief/ele/ranger/mesmer (portal)/engi/warrior who can check points.
Atleast builds that got access to mobility.
Knowing what TA was up too was not the problem, they just couldn’t answer because their comp was far less mobile and they didn’t have enough good 1v1ers.
Yo guys what comps were being run? Many warriors in the top teams? What classes were played in the final
2 warriors, one shoutbow on TCG and one zerker Ham/GS by oRNG.
Both of them weren’t impressive. (Also I really think zerker war is way better with Longbow instead of Hammer. Was pretty sad to see rom miss like 75% of his hammer hits due to evades/blocks/blinds)
Yeah some people are in denial if they’re saying double ele is THE reason Abjured won, Abjured won because oRNG played badly.
However likewise a lot of people also can’t see how the double eles being able to sustain contestion of a point also helped. Let’s also not discredit Nos’ part either, that plague form did its part too.
Again though, double ele is a reason they won but not the biggest reason which is oRNG turned up and played courtyard and just plain didn’t play for points.
oRNG just had a very bad comp that was very hard to work with (hence the terribad rotations), especially against quadruple bruisers (2 of them being broken eles).
So what was stopping oRNG from playing the same or even better comp? Enlighten us as you obviously know the gameplan of both teams better then they did.
Where exactly did I say it was not their fault they had a bad comp ?
Although, most players only play one class, so you try to work with what you have.

I’m from EU and it’s hilarious how some people discredit The Abjured for using eles in their comp like some mysic ritual forbid the other teams from playing with 5 eles if they wanted to. Face it – oRNG’s rotations were bad in the grand final and TA took maximum advantage of that. Do I need to remind that oRNG were using a BURN guardian throughout most of the games? Stop crying and give these guys some cheers kitten .
Again, it’s extremely hard to have good rotations with such a comp (mostly good at teamfighting) against double ele (and to a lesser extent engi).
Also I fail to see how is playing a burn guard relevant and comparable to having double ele. Ele is by far the best class in the game right now while burn guard is just okay.

Went fine most of the day, and since 17:30~18:00 CET it went back to kitten again.
As a PvP only player this is EXTREMELY frustrating, please, at least acknowledge the issue …
I know we have countless topics on d/d elementalist being too strong in pvp atm. Almost every topic on it is about how burn is over the top and should be nerfed. I am here to tell you that the core of the problem isn’t simply the burn they can put out.
There is a reason why this build works well in pvp but is hardly used in anything else. It doesn’t work unless certain conditions are met. What are those conditions that make it so great in pvp?
The first thing is to look at the game mode. Players have to compete for a point. The reason elementalist is so great at competing for the point is because they can sustain, gain might, and put out continous burns by staying in the same general spot.
The next condition that needs to be met is players have to engage the elementalist rather than kite them out. This makes it rather easy for for them to apply alot of burn over time and simply out-sustain other players.
The problem was never the burns; it is their ability to stay on point and out-sustain. My proposed changes will hopefully make it a little more fair in 1v1 situations and give people the ability to pressure elementalists a bit more and reward a bit more skillful play for elementalists.
Traits
Nothing needs to be changed in the fire traitline. Nerfing blinding ashes does nothing and ruins some scepter builds. I don’t even play with that trait and I notice almost no difference. In general, all the traits synergize a little too well and gives more sustain than I think Anet realized. I feel a good change is making players choose between vigor/regen on cantrips and reducing the cooldowns.
Soothing Disruption- gain regen and vigor from using a cantrip. Gain 10% damage while above 90% health
Aquamancer’s Training- Reduce recharge on cantrips -20%. Reduce water recharge -33%.
I believe that is a fair trade. It makes players compete for the extra condi removal from reduced cleansing fire recharge/might uptime for extra regen and vigor.
That’s it. That is the only change I feel is necessary to bring elementalists down to a more acceptable level. Players will most likely go for the regen and vigor, but will lose out on lower cooldown of cantrips. This will hopefully bring them down to the point where they can’t sustain on point for long periods of time.
It has always been my opinion that sustain was the problem. thoughts?
Except they’re also very good at roaming in WvW, and nothing about fighting on point about that.
I like to play something who can support his teammates well with stuff like cc, heals, other forms of protection and utility, that kind of stuff.
Preferably while having some ranged attacks, with good mobility and survival cooldowns to stay alive. I dont like the warrior/juggernaught tank type, who can soak up a lot of dmg. I prefer the sqhuishy type who has to use mobility, has to time his abilities skillful and use survival cooldowns to stay alive
I’d say ele fits the most to what you’re looking for. It’s a highly mobile class (probably the most mobile after thief), very squishy with base stats, but becomes incredibly taky thanks to boons and sustain. It has a loot of soft or hard cc, and can give boons to their mates as well as they can heal them.
Same for me. I’ve been having constant lag since the last patch, it’s a nightmare.
I have 0 lags and a constant <40ping when playing other games like LoL.
Most people don’t bother since there’s always someone alt tabbed during this time so we’re probably gonna wait anyway.
Sword is still pretty amazing in a celestial build.paired with a shield, warhorn or another sword and longbow.
GS/LB is the best imo, hammer gets kittened by all those random blinds too much.
Celestial is pretty good too.
Don’t hope too much against D/D ele though, unless they suck you won’t be able to 1v1 them.
I wouldn’t nerf ele’s damage which is honestly not that high, but rather their ridiculous sutain and/or mobility.
What about a Thief? or condi Warrior?
thief is gonna do nothing, ele is gonna cap and outheal everything while thief needs to constantly disengage as soon as he gets hit by some random condispam
and war lol…let’s say that atm going 1v1 with a cele d/d while on war (Any spec) is the fastest way to suicide after jumping down on skyhammer since the only war spec that could fight a cele d/d ele was shoutbow and they nerfed it to the ground (While ele got even stronger after patch…ofc)
Hey that’s something that can win 1v1 with cele d/d…nerf it asap and buff ele
I know it sounds pretty reterded but this is exactly what they did
New shoutbow can 1v1 ele, or at the very least contest the point forever.
Still, problem is you can’t ever kill them because of their kittened mobility. That’s what frustrates me the most actually.
And while being able to 1v1, you’re definitely not a hardcounter and it’s still a fairly balanced fight.
(edited by chibbi.3706)
I laughed at the thought of someone walking over ring of fire multiple times and asking for nerfs haha
Ele is in a good place, it counters people and has counters… At the moment it’s crushing fotm classes (besides mesmer), but looks like necro boon conversion builds or celestial signant builds are starting to rise to new fotm, which easily beats an ele the moment they leave water.
No, ele is definitely not in a good place, you have to actually be blind to not realize it’s too strong.
“It has counters” yeah, signet necro has a good matchup against it if the necro plays really good. That’s about it.
Never seen any roleplay in the mists.
People usually just stands there and alt tab waiting for queue pop or climb structures.
I wouldn’t take “To the Limit!” even if it wasn’t bugged unless it had a 1/4th-second cast. Good players spam hard-CC on you when you’re getting focused.
Anyway, here’s how I play the build.
Burning Arrows is farm more valuable than Shrug It Off. Without it, you don’t add enough pressure to contribute to focusing targets. I really wish there was an amulet for Power/Condition Damage/Healing Power with 1000/1000/1000 attribute-distribution.
You don’t have enough pressure because you run tactics and defense.
Defense trait line is really disposable in this build, and you get much more from an arm trait line.
Warriors are definitely fine and can still use celestial. Just stop mindlessly play that GS/hammer maraudeur build and try other things.
conditions do less damage, the toughness is what zerk warriors prepatch had, your power is lower, vit is the same as prepatch (if you went 2 into tactics)
so in all cele now (post patch )give them the toughness they lost, vit they lost the condition scaling is different so they lose damage over all… simple fix just give heavy classes the toughness they lost end of story
I bet you’ve not even tried it because cele warrior actually does kittened condi damage.
EDIT : The overall damage really actually. Cele warrior deals more damage than it did, you just have to change your build and not tried to run something that’s as close as the previously infamous shoutbow build as possible.
And I have no problem with condi without even using cleansing Ire.
(edited by chibbi.3706)
Warriors are still good. Only hammer sucks because of all the blinds.
Warriors are definitely fine and can still use celestial. Just stop mindlessly play that GS/hammer maraudeur build and try other things.
Bumping this because apparently it hasn’t been said enough already since there is still no change.
This is extremely frustrating to start a soloQ a being matched against 4-5 man premades as a solo player.
Every PvP player complain about this, i’ve yet to see anyone that thinks this was a good change.
Can’t you just admit you made a god kitten mistake and just go back to the way it was ? You know, the way people liked it.
So many changes went in the wrong direction, people gave feedback about it and it never got changed again. (Same thing about not being able to do anything while in queue…)
Is there one? Most of unranked and ranked games, at least on my game level, are just one team dominating the whole match, either its because other team is so kittening far behind skillwise or then just kittening kittened class combos. Add to that the frequent 4v5’s and BOOM, “TPvP” has suddenly became more frustrating than ever.
Please convince me to continue playing this sad gamemode.
You forgot 4 or 5 man premade vs full soloQ
Yeah I was on celestial, + the blood magic trait bonus.
Healing power scaling kittened I guess.
No I meant that other means of healing should not impact on how good our heal skill is. The fact that we have siphon should not justify that our siget is weaker than the warrior’s one.
One a side note, I tested SoV active proc and it heals for 492 instead of 685, which is about 33% lower than the tooltip. Good fix Anet.
Come on guys. A warriors healing signet ticks at a 1 second interval. Our SOV ticks everytime we get hit,but also has a 1 second ICD.
A warrior that gets hit in combat will get hit,and will receive healing every second.
A necromancer with SOV in combat will get hit,and will receive healing every second as long as they get hit. They’re not the same but in practice,in combat, you won’t see that much of a difference. They’ll basically both tick every second. And don’t forget our dagger auto when you’re specced blood magic siphons. You WILL heal alot more than a warriors healing signet per second with dem autos. Also, dagger 2. Siphon plus you’ll trigger both blood magic traits as well for every pulse, meaing, more healing…Healing signet trumps SOV when it comes to running away though and resetting fights, but let’s be honest. How many times are you going to reset a fight as a necro? Never. Can’t even run away. When it comes to me I go into every fight with the intention of winning.
^ IMO that’s challenging, rewarding and fun when you pull it off. You HAVE to be aggressive to survive. Either we go through them or we’ll drag them down with us (downed state ftw lol).
No, as both a necro and warrior player, signet of healing passive is much, much, much better than SoR passive.
Even during a fight it will tick more, because you don’t take hit all the time, sometime your opponent will play defensive, sometime you have to kite him, sometimes he’s gonna be feared, etc etc. During all those situations SoR will not tick, while SoH would. + Ofc all the time when you’re trying to tempo and kite the damage (hard as a necro though). Oh, and I forgot than you won’t get SoR ticks while in shourd either.SoH passive in undeniably way better than SoR. But SoR active is decent while SoH passive is super duper crap.
And honestly Siget of vampirism healing when you get hit doesn’t make any sense to me. It should heal when you hit someone, which would actually be way better and make much more sense.
I never said SOV is better,I said it’s almost on par with HS. Sometimes it won’t tick as much because you won’t get hit, sure, but that’s why you have the siphons on attacks. Think dagger auto. A full chain of that is around 300 hp,maybe a bit more, that’s almost as much as your SOV,and it only takes like what,1-2 seconds?
If he kites you, well then that’s maybe a build issue. Yeah, that’s gonna’ suck if you can’t keep him close for AA. But if he’s kiting you,and he still hits you, you’ll get hp every second. If he’s feared, well I usually keep on him like a koala on a eucalypt. Hitting him with AA..siphons,making it close to HS healing.
No,SOV won’t heal you in shroud,I feel it should though, since all of our other siphons now do…would be a nice feature with US.
Vampirism name might be because of the active?…
Though I’ll say it again,I’ve never said SOV is better than HS. But when in combat it comes close, and it IS good if it’s coupled with siphons as well.
You can’t justify the fact that one heal is better than the other because we have access to siphon. That’s completely unrelated and some build don’t aven take them. Warrior has adrenal heath then (and that’s something ALL warriors have). And what about eles ? Should their heal be super kitten because they have extremely good healing beside that ?
Also, what I meant by “if he kites” you is “if he’s kiting you he will not hit you 1time per second so your signet will not proc on cd”
(edited by chibbi.3706)
