thanks for the reply, I’ll try to cover the points you made:
-exploring map completition. I have pretty much 100% on all maps by now, excepting by the last one because so many zones used to be locked unless specific events were cleared. (I’ve heard that changed alrady though)
-meta events and loot. loot for what? can we get anything actually useful if I don’t care about crafting legendary? can I get better than my current mostly exotic equipment?
-achievements/collections. I haven’t done this too much, never cared much about it, but I guess could check it out.
-mastery points: like map completition, I thik I have that pretty much covered. at least until I need more for masteries, for now I have a LOT of free points I can’t use yet.
-Story: I have it finished, it was the firwst thing I did when I got HoT.
-Adventures: I don’t really know what you mean by adventures, care to elaborate? =O
-Going for elite spec. I did all the skill/hero points in Tyria and I have pretty much unlocked everything by now, am I missing something?
-Farming for mats: mats for what? I don’t care about legendaries like I said, is there anything else I should be farming for?
-Raids: it’s one of my future goals indeed.

I hope you can elaborate on those that I don’t know much about
thanks!

Hi everyone!
I have a doubt on endgame content. I have had a lv 80 character for some while and for now I’m just focusing in getting the jungle masteries (specially untill I can fly without spending stamina).
I know many people’s ultimate goal is to get legendary weapons but honestly I could care less about that. so what else is to do if I don’t care about legendaries? I guess getting ascended equipment to be able to do raids is a possible choice.
but whenever I say in zone map chat in the jungle that masteries are slow to train, most people tell me that they don’t even notice because they’re busy doing other things at letting masteries advance on their own while doing those other things. But what else is there to do in the jungle besides masteries if I don’t care about crafting legendaries?
I mean most events give items that people ultimately use for that, right? or is there something else I’m missing that I should be doing in the new maps?
I hope you can help me

I’ll try to explain myself (again) so people who reply actually know what this is about.
Human people designed a new race that is suposed to look “tough” and big.
When designing the female members of the race, they know it is important that besides looking tough and tall,. they still have to be beautiful and attractive, because players usually like their avatars to look good and attractive to them too. Therefore they managed to make them both tough and attractive, and we have many male and female players that play female norns, because it caters to both of them.
Now, when making the male norns, the designed made them tough and big, but they didn’t think that making them attractive is important. Therefore we have guys playing norns but female players playing male norns? not so much. Comparing it to male human characters, that can look both tough and handsome, there are many females paying male humans too.
My point is that when designing races, costumes, npc’s, and other things, have in consideration that it’s just as important to make male characters attractive than it is to make the female characters attractive.
I know that “attractive” is subjective, but I doubt anyone considers tiny small heads and short legs attractive.
was that clear now? this is not about Norns having other body proportions because whatever lore reason there is, this is about a designer’s decision.

but is is a discussion board, and I have every right to express what I don’t like about the game, and see what others think about it.

NO, you are making artificial problems, you look for kitten in the whole.

What you are doing is comparing a 100% ficional, fake, made up, non-existance race that looks similar to 100% real, existing race – Norns to Humans – about that they should not look like this because humans don’t look like this.

Your assumption is they are humans because they look like humans but this assumption is stupid – they are not humans no matter how similar they look.

Claiming that they should not look like this because humans dont look like this is wrong, it’s like claiming that life (living organisms) could not exist in an enviroment without water because life that we know is based around it.

You don’t know how a Norn would look like unless you know a real Norn which you can’t because they are fake.

So stop comparing them to humans because they are not. If you will continue with this crusade it will show more about you then you wish to reveal. (if you catch my drift)

it is one thing to read a topic, and a completely different thing to understand it. Clearly you can read, but you do not understand it. Please read all the replies before giving repeated opinions that I have already replied to.

cultural armor as starting armor?

I never got to play before the town clothes removal. I never understood why they made them tonics. I mean if they had to remove to make the outfit system, wouldn’t it have been better to turn into outfits? tonics are the worst solution they could have come up with…
But anyway, I feel that with giving people the tier 1 of cultural armor we would look much more like the npc’s and people in the starting areas and tutorial.

however the guys look not like guys on covers of Sports illustrated. try to get a guy that looks like a male norn, with the short legs, the huge arms, the small head and weird torso on the cover of the magazine.
so, we have the female norn that have the attratcive athletic body type we find on magazines and the male norn? weird exaggerated proportions completely unreal and impossible to find in reality.

why is it acceptable to put these strange body proportions only on a male and not on a female?

cultural armor as starting armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: coso.9173

coso.9173

something that has always bothered me, is that for some races (for example sylvari and Norn) the regular starting armor looks vastly different from the things they wear. in the tutorial you see all these npc’s with armor that matches their races, and the player starts with something that really clashes with the rest.
would you prefer to have all characters start with the first cultural armor tier instead? it would be of course unlocked as well, so only tier 2 and 3 would have to be bought.
what do you think?
after the starting armor, any other armor you get could stay the same, since we can go pretty much anywhere to level, so it doesn’t matter much.

really? because there have been lots of topics about this, since the early beta.
it’s clearly not only MY issue.
if you find female norns beautiful or not is not the issue. they are designed to look like beautiful women. whereas male norns are designed to look as cartoony overly muscled guys with awful proportions. that’s the issue I’m talking about. not about the subjectivity of what is attractive to me or you.

what's wrong with male Norns?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: coso.9173

coso.9173

it’s not just a bulky issue.
if make norns were in fact just bulky, like the concept art I posted there would be no problem, but they are not, they are deformed, short legs, small head, huge arms and chest, while females have much more realistic proportions.
the guys look ridiculous and not menacing. also, giving sexy options to only female characters is not fair.

And the point is that they are not human. The male proportions can’t be looked at on a human scale and then claimed to be deformed. It’s like someone looking at a hyena with its large head, ungainly gait, and sloping back leading to short hind legs and saying its deformed because they don’t have a dog’s proportions.

Sexual dimorphism can take any form. There are species where the female is larger than the male and species where the body proportions are different between the sexes. You’re expecting a non human species to have human proportions and faulting the males as being deformed because they don’t look human.

As to giving “sexy options” only to females. Female Norns would disagree and consider their men sexy and human men deformed. After all, it’s their species and that what they would have evolved to find good looking.

oh please. this game is not made for imaginary races, it is made for US human players. when I mean “sexy” I mean sexy for US human players. female norns are sexy for US human players, norn males, to US human players are DEFORMED and NOT sexy.

Again, this is not about whatever lore reasons the artists have for making them that way, this is to point that giving sexy options just to females is NOT FAIR to US human players. you can make male norns have big bodies and not be deformed and they would have been 1) more in tune with their female counterparts and 2) giving male characters the OPTION to be both sexy or tough.

again those are just lame excuses to justify a design decision. and not what I am talking about.
the real reason why norn males are built that way is because they made it like that. they assume men want hulkling beasts for male characters and pretty tall ladies when playing female ones.
And Im saying it is very limiting for those of us who want something out if those 2 options. what If I want a tall handsome male norn and a hulkling huge female?

Norn women look like real human females, not GW2 females. they have somewhat realistic proportions. Norn Men do not look like realistic muscled guys at all, If one were to see someone with those proportions in real life one would run away screaming. that’s my issue. If you want to say “they are a fantasy race and have other proportions”, then just sexual diphormism is a pale excuse to explain why only males have those whacky body proportions.

so just because it is fantasy everything goes?
it’s not that simple.
fantasy is always based on reality and the vision of reality of the author. I’m telling that it’s unfair to many that male norns have over the top body proportions, but female norns get much more realistic ones, just because straight guys want to see sexy girls.
if you want to have sexy girls, fine. but don’t take away the CHOICE to have sexy guys of the same race. Not EVERYONE is a straight male.

But giving only sexy options to females and hulk options to males is limiting, for everyone.

I’ll never understand why the male norns look like they do.
Their body proportions are completely wacky, which I could understand if the females also shared that, but (not strangely) the female look pretty sexy and with much more human like proportions.
If they wanted to make the male norns, hige muscled beasts, why even then, did they gave them kitten to start with? why not awesome big pecs?
I love the race lore, but each time I want to make a male one, and look at their flabby chest and their wonky proportions, all it makes is abort mission and keep making boring humans.
I know we’ll never get a change now, but I have seen such awesome male norn concept art and then to have that horrible model is really saddening…
Here is some amazing concept art of male norns and Braham, I wish they looked like that in game.

New beard styles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: coso.9173

coso.9173

I don’t think we’ve ever had any new beardstyles right? just a few faces and mostly hairstyles.
I know many people would love to have more beard options, like a short beard with an actual 3d model instead of just stubble (like the long beard but shorter)
and also some really simple combinations of already existing beards to have new ones, we don’t have any soulpatch or any other options, most beards automatically come with a mustache, but it would be nice to have some variety.
I’d specially love if this could be a new option, it’s just combining the first beard with the smooth option (to remove the mustache) I don’t think it should be complicated to do, since it’s just mixing 2 already existing textures together, no need to model anything, no even need to draw anything, just copy paste.
I’d really really really love if we could get this done, and I hope I’m not the only one.
I know you probably have your hands full now with the new LS episodes, but I’ve always figured that the people in charge of cosmetics are a separate team.
Please consider this, it would make a world of difference to many of us!

something that bothers me with GW2 music

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: coso.9173

coso.9173

One of the things music should do in a game is help setting a mood.
GW2 has amazing music, but it suffers from a problem, it doesn’t change quick enough when going from one place to another, taking sometimes minutes to change, and thus setting the wrong mood for the place.
When I’m walking in a field and then I enter a creepy swamp the music keeps being all flowers and butterflies for minutes before it changes to something more fitting.
the same when using waypoints, the music just keeps on playing the past map tune and it doesn’t help much. When I’m in verdanr brink and then use a waypoint to lion’s arch, the music keeps being the jungle one for quite some while and it is pretty immersion breaking.
I know this is not the hugest bug around the place and many people might not even care, but I figure it should not be too hard to fix, change the timer to play the next music to be 10 secs or so instead of 2 minutes or more…

The same attitude happened when they made the base game free, when HoT was released, countless topics talking about how they felt betrayed by Anet because they paid for it, and now people would get it for free. Like if that made the years they played before totally worthless.

Like I said it’s an ongoing attitude, I just cited the tribal as another example. I personally don’t feel cheated by changes in MMOs, specially considering how much they actually change.

Now, for the last time, I UNDERSTAND that some people prefer the shinies t stay for those who played GW1 only. I personally prefer not to be asked to play another game to get things in a game I actually play, and I feel like things change all the time, so even if they said they would keep them GW1 exclusive, it nwouldn’t shock or disappoint me if they changed it.
