I’ve played 2 games with fun open world PvP. One had a triangle of professions and the other was 2 nations in perpetual combat. Anet already has open world pvp available in the form of WvWvW. They never introduced actual rewards for it though. If there were dungeons, gold, weapon skins, or really good maps, it may incentivize an open world system. As is stands, wvw has no depth or enjoyment after a while, it’s just a crappier version of spvp where zergs rule.
Anet employees should never say “balance”. The instant they say balance, it’s all over. People will never stop complaining and they can’t because balance and equality don’t exist. Saying balance promotes players to think “where’s the imbalance?”. In effect: the search for balance is actually the search for imbalance and since no 2 professions have the same traits and skills they will always be imbalanced and unequal. They can’t be equal. But like I said, people can’t stop complaining as long as Anet says they want balance.
My guess is Anet is full of people who went to college and listened to leftists professors saying stuff like this…now you can be conditioned too! It repeats so often I take off my headphones near the bank.
Hahaha. So if someone can do massive damage in 1 attack then it’s broken right? So warriors are broken with killshot. It has massive damage AND works at HUGE range! nerf warrior kthx http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kill_Shot
How stupid thief forum frequenters are?
Please, tell me another profession which has a stunbreaker on no cooldown (Shadow Return).
It isn’t on no cooldown, you have to have shadow return ready. And swap works the exact same way on mesmer.
Tell me another profession which has the same access to no-casting-time teleports which save your kitten when you are under CC.
Mesmer and guardian both do.
Tell me another profession with the same access to stealth (you cannot be CCed when in stealth unless the CC is AoE and nobody wastes an AoE CC if they aren’t entirely sure they will hit the target).
Mesmers don’t stealth?
This whole thread got kinda weird. Regarding CC- no profession is going to get bogged down by 1 person casting CC, that would make CC broken. When a thief gets hit by a group casting CC, that’s usually it unless the thief acts quickly. It’s just that some of you seem to think CC should be the end of everything. “Yes I stunned him! Now I’ll just- HEY no fair!”
Anet, how about…4 mails before suppression? That way we can send food to party members in dungeons.
Thief – Stealth Stomp, blind stomp (can make a blind field) and teleport stomp
Mesmer – Invulability Stomp, stealth stomp, teleport stomp
Engineer – Mini Stomp and Stealth Stomp
Guardian – Bubble stomp, stability stomp
Warrior – Stability Stomp
Necro – Death shroud stomp (not really amazing)
Elementalist – Mist form stompThief has the most stomping options and also is able to go into stealth very easily and not use up a utility slot.
Biased list is biased. As a Guardian, I also have access to teleport stomp (Judge’s Intervention), blind stomp (traited F1), aegis stomp (f3), and “block” stomp (focus 5th skill).
^^He just stomped OPs argument.
A lot of the whining on this forum is for grinding and it’s always from pve-only noobs.
Stopped reading after this point. You’re probably the guy who skirts round the zerg in WvW doing AoE and thinks himself skilful.
Not at all, I’d consider myself a noob. That was for the people who play pve content and call themselves good. You can see what I mean in threads where someone believe himself skillful for killing AI- it just boggles the mind. The whining doesn’t come from pvp-whores because they’re actually playing the game instead of complaining about “lack of skillful content”.
A lot of the whining on this forum is for grinding and it’s always from pve-only noobs. You basically want the things in this article: http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html
…Maybe you should go and do something else instead of play all the time. You’ll enjoy your time in the game more as you play less and those legendary weapons will become less meaningful to you. If you want to be the hamster on the wheel then play a game like that. GW2 was NEVER promised as a generic hamster-on-the-wheel gear grind, it was supposed to be the opposite. It has some grindy aspects like achievements, colorful weapons, titles etc and that’s fine if you want them. But it was never about grinding until you die.
So how come literally every class has one weapon set/build that completely dominates in pvp?
I thought this game was about diversity in weapons and play styles, not who has the most regen rangers and mesmers on their team.
Could you imagine a game where there was perfect balance across all classes? I know you can’t because it doesn’t exist.
Did you know that the moment the Thief gets CCed its game over? I have seen it every time as a thief and against other thieves. Its amazing what constant cripple can do.
<_< You mean…eh nvm…eventually you’ll figure it out…but no, CC isn’t always the end. Play some sPvP and you’ll become uber slippery.
Melandru runes reduce condition and stun duration by 25% each.
I don’t understand some of the posts here and elsewhere. Thieves have the best mobility?…They’re good and all but most thief mobility is offensive not defensive. I mean, you have the SB 5 skill which can be used twice at most and infiltrator’s strike → shadow return was useful but even that was nerfed to a 1200 range showing that Anet wants to keep it an offensive skill. The other weapon skills: shadow shot and shadow strike are mostly offensive although shadow strike has defensive applications(you still need to hit a target…and few use p/d anyway). Then you’ve got the 2 utility skills, infiltrator’s strike and shadowstep as well as steal. Steal and infil. strike are both offensive while the shadowstep skill can be used either way. Heartseeker can be used to run away but so what? You know thieves run away with stealth not mobility skills.
People dislike the thief so much because stealth frustrates them, that’s all. I’ve watched eles escape full groups like houdini but there’s far less anger towards eles. It’s simply because you can see the ele as he runs away.

o_O mine fixed itself. So idk…if it messes up again I’ll have to try a new one.
I was doing fine. I curtained in the appropriate spots, I waved at the first boss, and I stayed at the desp spot and greatsworded acolytes from a far. They screwed up repeatedly and pinned it on me.
Yeah it’s just a weird occurrence I think. You don’t hear about the 500 runs people do with 0 problems.
Last night I joined a party and they were totally ignoring me in party chat (for being a thief i guess and they are all warriors) and since they are busy server hopping to find an uncontested dungeon, I went ahead without saying more and started the dungeon.
After going through the dungeon flawlessly (no deaths, fast run, took gate down in 7 secs, etc) on the last boss with the boss down to almost a sliver of life left I got kicked. One one hand I feel offended for such a poor attempt but on the other hand I can’t help but laugh.
It wasn’t because you were a thief. Were there people from the same guild in the group? Some guilds kick at the end then add their friends for rewards…
Its no fun when kitten chill is turned into 0s.
:O I missed something here. How can a condition be reduced to 0 seconds? I’m only seeing -65% overall which is good but that isn’t 0.
Expanding on him ^
The answer to your question is quite simple. Because Anet want to limit possible options for getting this weapon. They want you to preferedly buy gems with real money or with in game gold. In the later case this works as a huge money sink. They only want acquisition through gambling. Which makes them the most money. If you could buy it off the TP it wouldn’t.
People on these forums and in-game complain out of both sides of their mouths. “Prices are too high”, “we need sinks”, “precursors cost too much”, “ectos are too low”. So Anet creates a skin that is found through chests but doesn’t tell you the rate of acquisition- forcing you to buy gems for a chance at it. Now you have all this excess gold being dumped into chests for a chance at an item- this hides the true cost of it. If it’s a 5% chance for a skin then the true cost is 20*BL key for a person wanting the skin. If you get a skin but want another item(like OP) you have to keep gambling- forcing more money into the gem store.
Anet is actually giving people what they want but in a roundabout way: a healthy in-game economy where inflation is kept in check and new items added regularly. Some won’t get what they want but overall Anet is doing it’s best to keep the game running smoothly. Not only this, but forcing the gold/gem ratio higher has probably resulted in more people buying gems instead of converting gold(who actually bought gems when it was 1gold:100gems?).
Maybe he’s exaggerating but this spot is good with the mf buff. A guildie was using it to get 4-7 gold an hour with MF gear as an alternative to cof. There were already lots of people that knew about it, get into an overflow if you can.
But the reason for why clones/phantasms do not always attack the real Mesmer is simple. You summon them on a target. If you summon them on a clone, then they attack that clone. If you summon them on the real Mesmer, they attack the real Mesmer. They can not change their target.
I wish this were true. I almost got crushed at the end of the skipping stones puzzle after my illusion decided to go after the champ reef rider- this was AFTER it killed it’s target. Someone else noticed their clones were acting funny too, so maybe Anet is changing them or they’re just bugged…
OP, you are either extremely unlucky or you kitten ed them off somehow. I crafted my mesmer almost to 80 then watched 1 short video showing the run. I wasn’t experienced at all but I did just fine and haven’t had a problem before. Just don’t slow down the run.

…c’mon anet…i’ve never had mouse problems with anything else. what changed in these last few patches?
The most fun I ever had in FoWsc was when people almost failed, there wasn’t much enjoyment from a run with no hiccups. But if the terras failed then that was it, you wasted your time.
I think we know what needs nerfing now.
Don’t worry, Anet is nerfing guards after watching this.
I’ve gotten smashed in WvW quite a bit. I’ve been the smasher as well, and this is the case with all PvP. It’s not some glorious superior content, there are plenty of terrible players on both sides, and that’s the main reason I avoid it and the main reason I stopped playing games like LoL. People that hold PvP in such a high regard don’t actually experience PvP, they experience daydreams that they substitute for actual PvP experiences. I simply don’t enjoy PvP, and I’ve made that clear, yet somehow this results in me being bad at it. u wanna 1v1 me in black ops on xbox live? ill beat u.
At first I was like “huh?” then I was like “you trolling bro?”.
OP you will never have what you want. It doesn’t matter how much PvE content is available or how fast they add it, you’ll just run through it eventually- everyone knows this and has been there, done that. It doesn’t matter how much you stroke your e`peen about speed or w/e, we’ve all run a lot of PvE in this game or other games and it always becomes boring. Anybody can be good at playing a computer, even bots can run “difficult content”(like UW in GW1)…
You said PvP wasn’t your thing but it IS the game…so for you and PvEers like you I say this: You can call yourself elite and build your ego all you want but it sounds like you’re afraid of it getting smashed by another player in WvW.
Dailies were too boring before as everyone complained and now that they’re different each day(allowing you to CHOOSE your daily), you complain about it OP?
I don’t like everything Anet does but you’re complaining about stupid stuff. Why should you have a legendary from just PvE? If anything it could be more PvP oriented to reflect greater prestige and skill on behalf of the player.
I’ve got the bug again where I can’t toggle the camera with right click properly.

I had this bug months ago for a small time then it vanished until today. Did Anet change something in the patch? I was fine yesterday…
If we want an actual analogy here(not walking up to someone asking about their clothes)…It’s like asking a soldier if he is wearing body armor or a pillow in his shirt. Or like asking him if he’s got an automatic rifle or a bb gun that looks like one. Do you want to go to battle with a man using a bb gun pew pewing a dragon?
After 15 pages it looks like the community knows what it wants. Bring back pingable builds Anet! w00t!
I’m hoping they improve turret traits for engies. I haven’t touched mine since I hit 80 on it, and it was the first char I made, but turrets are so disappointingly pathetic that I haven’t really felt inclined to play engie at all. People say kits are the way to go, but, I wanted to play engie for the turrets, as was showcased before the game even launched.
I cannot count how many balls exactly turrets currently suck, but I imagine it’s in the 10,000+ range.
IDK about that, some engis are kitten good in sPVP with turrets.
Wiki is your friend. Make sure you don’t buy the same item twice as ascended items are unique.

This thread is cute. For those wondering why an inspect command wasn’t in the beta it’s probably because everyone was a noob then and equips weren’t built to farm(each beta was a weekend right?). Every person here asking for builds/equips has been there when 2 crackheads join an FOTM 20 and 1 started the dungeon- then he quits because he can’t run the cliffside fractal. We’ve played COF p1 farm with crappy warriors who screw us over. And then they never stop saying stuff like, “it doesn’t matter what i use, you should just accept me”. No kids, we don’t have to accept you, this isn’t childhood soccer where everyone gets a trophy. Play to Win, Build to Win or gtfo.
So…this started happening a long time ago, was there ever a solution to it? 2-3 people start a group then kick at the end boss denying others from tokens/chests…any way to report it?
Anyone else notice that WvW pvp is more active than structured pvp? A lot more active? And it’s far less active than GW1 pvp was? Dear Anet, some thoughts:
*I haven’t played structured pvp a ton but I don’t understand, why am I getting chests for rewards? Couldn’t I just get points to buy my items or be given access to my own items in pve(like gw1)? I have karma, can’t I use that to get items like balthazar was used in GW1? Sure unlocking was a bit of a pain sometimes in GW1 but buying skills wasn’t too difficult and equips were free. You could test anything, change anytime and it was available to all. Even if I had all my items now, other people still wouldn’t, and that’s just not as fun as WvW play(even though STR is faster than WvW).
*You have pvp skins but pvp skins can only be used on pvp items? Really? Beating players in PvP is far more challenging than mobs in pve. Why not introduce new skins that are earned only through PvP but can be used on any items? Because introducing new maps isn’t going to get tons of new people playing structured pvp, rewards are. And make the skins available on the TP, give pvp lovers even more reason to play your game.
Things that don’t seem right in this game…
- Why are the gem store prices so out of line with reality? $10 for character slot expansion but $7.50 for bank expansion? Why would anyone spend real money on bank expansions when a character can get a 60 slot inventory for nothing? The bank slots are also static, they’re just bank slots while the character can be used as a storage mule or actually played. Also, why are character slots $10 when I bought the game for $40 in November? Although the price of the game fluctuates wildly, a new game is $40(or less…or more) for 5 characters and an expansion is $10 for 1 character. The prices don’t make sense to me.
- Why does the TP charge 15% of each sale to the seller? Can’t we have a free/open market like GW1? Are you trying to stop inflation by destroying gold to keep prices down? That won’t work…and you’re only encouraging higher prices by forcing sellers to pay a listing fee before the item is sold. If I list an item for 50c below the lowest asking price, I’m not paying the listing fee again because 30 people are offering the item for less an hour later, it’s going to sit there until it’s sold. This is how most people sell items and since re-listing the item costs gold, players are only encouraged to keep their listing as it is and push prices higher. Even if you want to keep the tax, put the whole tax on the sale of the item- never the listing itself.
- What’s the point of soulbinding? In GW1, getting max armor/weapons was very easy for a level 20. The items weren’t flashy but they were cheap and you could work towards more attractive ones. The armor was soulbound, weapons were not unless you chose to bind them. Max items in this game aren’t cheap and everything is soulbound ensuring that prices stay high(as every set is unsellable once equipped). Every MMO I’ve played allows you to sell items whether you used them or not. It’s like Anet took something that wasn’t an issue in GW1 and brought it to an MMO where exotic armor/weapons aren’t that easy to get. This discourages people from testing and discovering new styles/builds by forcing them to keep each set of equips.
- Does WvW have to be so slow? The maps are huge and the constant running makes the game feel so dull. Couldn’t 1-2 more posts have WPs available? Or could small WPs that handle a certain number of people every minute be added? Adding unrestricted WP usage anywhere would probably be bad as it would allow a zerg to dominate the entire map. But there’s gotta be something to make WvW feel faster/more dynamic.
- Why did Anet create the personal story? I know it’s fun to be different but it doesn’t promote any type of teamwork or push people to work together. Who enjoys playing solo through an entire story with very little multi-player(dungeons)? Was it created for hermits? The whole game seems to have been created to encourage nice play but doesn’t really promote people to stay together. A more linear story encourages people to team up more, talk more and play together more often(don’t like admitting it but it’s true). And the worst part of the story is finally playing arah. This is how I felt: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/064/5/3/drive_me_closer_by_dirkloechel-d3axsog.jpg
Really Anet? I don’t even get to touch him?
