It DOES NOT work in hotjoins. Misinformation is a plague. Stop spreading it.

It currently works in: Team Arena and Custom Arena with Tournament Commands.

I had the feature enabled and everything worked fine, but I just disabled it then re-enabled and now it’s not working. It worked all day yesterday, didn’t see a single asura in hotjoin. Maybe I didn’t notice myself joining custom arenas?

Did you see any norn or charr? It’s possible that you just didn’t run into any asuras or that you were actually in custom arenas.

I don’t understand Anet’s thinking. There’s no reason to “test” a new feature in the most competitive game mode (team arena) while leaving it out of hotjoin. It’s not like it could ruin hotjoin (I think it would make it significantly better).

No norn or charr, must have been inside custom arenas? Maybe people were populating them so much yesterday to see the standard models. Anyway…would anet NOT include standard models into hotjoin so we have to play ranked games? Or is it just their desire to put every kitten thing behind a gate now including basic features?

Yeah waypoints make almost all things in tyria ridiculous. Instant teleportation anywhere from anywhere is a bit strange, it destroys most things like the living story (dry top was inaccessible but there were waypoints. wut?). And capturing fugitives should be impossible, they’d just teleport away to safety. Res shrines + asura gates would have been a continuation of GW1 lore but…we can boss hunt easier I guess?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GW1, for example, had way too many skills after some time, and the developers obviously had problems balancing everything in the end, so some skills just got nerfed into nothingness.
ANet learned from that, and in GW2 they limited the number of skills per class drastically (but also made them modifiable by traits). That’s a good thing in my opinion.

But okay, I have to admit that I’m always looking from a more competitive perspective. PvE-only skills are something else.

The issue is as you say: balancing in GW1 was horribly difficult. Every class could carry any skill due to secondary professions. The issue in GW2 is different: the trait and gear system act as multipliers on any skill set. Instead of skills being meta, traits and especially runes/sigils dictate the meta. You see this occur every time Anet releases new upgrades like perplexity runes or the feature patch making strength runes and air/fire sigils so powerful. Without them the meta could look entirely different in pvp. And it doesn’t help that there are so many available, balancing them against skills/traits is a nightmare.

On top of this, traits are not like attributes in GW1 which simply augmented a skill’s power. Instead they can give unique bonuses, recharges, immunities, passive procs etc. which leaves us with very few skills. If traits acted like attributes then everything is condensed into the skill, if one is too powerful it can be nerfed while preserving others in the same family. This lets you expand the number of skills because there isn’t the same multiplying effect, you get an OP skill you adjust it without affecting all the others around it.

data.4093

I don’t see it being that useful. You’re copying Boons. You’re not removing them on the enemy (though we have good Boon removal already, so they could be copied and then we could remove Boons I guess). It also takes the at least slightly similar copying-skill-mechanic we had in Guild Wars and tosses that out the window, so now we have nothing like that at all. At least Mimic as it was, was interesting as a mechanic. Not good, but interesting. If it could block and steal any one skill, then I think people might have been using it. Imagine how fun it would be to use skillfully, anticipating and blocking a specific skill, then using it back on the enemy. E.g., you block a Backstab, but since that can only be used in Stealth, you need to put yourself in Stealth before you can use it back on your target(s), etc.—No such thing here though.. we copy Boons.. “yay”.

I thought about something similar for mimic too(dazing instead of blocking and interrupt granted skill). Anet most likely thought of copying skills and concluded it’d be difficult to implement or overpowered.

I’m a bit surprised by the echo and mind stab too. Anet seems to have taken the path of least resistance, instead of doing something interesting they’re just adding damage and radius to mind stab and mimic will copy boons.

They could have done some simple stuff that would have been better. Mimic could have ripped all their boons in addition to copying or give you boons and then echo copied them to allies in a radius. At least it’d be a bit more interesting and get more play than it’s current change.

What I’m saying is that before ileap was totally worthless and when mesmers were really good, ileap couldn’t be dodged as easily as people say. Even though it wasn’t easily dodged, the burst could still be avoided because once the mesmer teleported, you countered. But it wasn’t the immobilize you typically avoided when mesmers timed it right. Not sure why you think I’m crying, I’m pointing out the skill isn’t crap as some are claiming.

This is the air GM buff.

It doesn’t seem to be a big deal. Still not worth taking IMO.

I’m still trying to understand how that air trait will work because it’s twin is halting strike. It procs for the same damage when you CC someone, so couldn’t you just chain CC and deal tons of damage? I know I’ve seen mesmers crit for over 3k with their version and they actually have to interrupt something. Couldn’t things like static field do huge damage in WvW? And then considering if people teleport out, they’d be struck twice, doing even more damage. I’m not seeing a weak trait here but then I don’t main an ele so idk.

Local chat only gets bad when you find those farming groups (like the people exploiting Blix) who KNOW they’re not playing the game the way its intended, and just don’t care. They’re focused entirely on grinding their phat loots, and get unfathomably furious when that gravy train is disrupted.

They are the absolute dregs of the GW2 community. I will honestly say outside of those cesspools, the in game community in GW2 is among the best I’ve ever experienced in an MMO.

So, when players are working together, helping each other in a social manner, thats somehow a "bad’ thing in an MMO. Compared to the people in this thread, including the one whom already admitted to grieving them? You folks certainly have a quirky moral compass. I think it’s truly the pot calling the kettle black. Especially when one of the known players to troll the Queensdale Train was found trolling Blix repeatedly yesterday. I think these complainers are the bad seeds in this scenario. Especially when Blix isn’t being run on every layer. You have a choice NOT to taxi to a layer running Blix.

Oh, and btw… since you mentioned loot, let’s call it what it is, jealously. These few players complain incessantly and whine whenever any large group of players socially farm an area with good rewards. The greater GW2 community would do better without the few bratty children whom can’t allow others to have fun and obtain loot.

^^
If Anet wanted to be really cool they would just ignore these kinds of threads and let the QQ from griefers drag on for a long time. Nothing angers the self-righteous, envious children more than not getting their way. And thank you OP for letting me know about this, I probably won’t participate much but it’s a nice change to group up with larger groups(somewhat of a rarity outside boss events).

Playing devils advocate here:

Aren’t the people not letting players complete that event the jerks?

Remember that no one is preventing the completion of the event. We can’t kill other players in pve…

Except that forum goers traditionally only represent about 15% of the gaming population and very often what they want is not what the majority wants. You may not believe it, but that doesn’t stop it from being true. That’s the real problem.

Recently Lotro stopped adding raids to their patches. If you look at the forum, everyone wanted raids, raided, looked forward to raiding. A lotro dev said only 2% of the population ever raided. But the forums tell a completely different story (something that same dev also said).

So comments on reddit? Not really all that much to write home about.

I could have swore I read a dev post around 6 or so months ago that stated that at the time, only 8% of all accounts had ever logged into the forums.

So maybe this game doesn’t have 3.5 million people logging into the forum, only 280,000! The funny thing is, if people didn’t have a forum we might have ended up with essentially nothing or worse. Without all the complaints and suggestions we could have had 3 new tiers of gear, skyhammer in teamQ forever, and just recently Anet said they ditched the 300g per commander color because of the feedback on the forum. There are many ways players impact the game through the forum, it doesn’t matter that they aren’t officially the majority(can you imagine even 1 million people on a forum?).

After reading the news about the new exclusive PVP armors, I cannot stop myself from wishing for a similar PVE counterpart. As it is now, the only prestige armor set in game, will be available for the 10-20 people that happen to win elite tournaments….

While I agree that top PVP players should get a special reward for their effords, I strongly believe that there should be a correspondant set for the people that prefer PVE.

I wish Anet would introduce an equally prestegius armor set, that could be craftable through PVE rewards and activities. I wouldn’t even mind paying 100 pristine relics per piece.

Before people start complaining that everything in PVE is easy so nothing will ever be prestigious: we have been lacking any kind of hard to obtain armor set, so now is the time to give us one of those. I am sure plenty of people will enjoy working towards one of those.

Hoelbrak clarification

in PvP

Posted by: data.4093

data.4093

When determining the Duration of a Condition applied to you, you do the following math:
First, you take into account the BASE duration of the condition the skill applies. In your example, 4s Bleed for Vital Shot.
Then, you add in ALL the modifiers, be them positive (like increased condition duration Food, Traits, Sigils, Runes) or negative (food, Runes, traits).
Of course, you subtract the negative values and you add the positive values. After this calculation, you add this number (which might be either Positive or Negative) to the BASE condition duration of the skill and you determine the “final” duration of the condition.

Simply put, if someone is using Hoelbrak Runes and gets hit by Vital Shot whose user has 75% condition duration, the final modifier will be: (75-20)=+55%.
So, the Bleed applied by Vital Shot will be (4*1.55)=6.2s long.

So….exactly the opposite of what the other guy said. Yay, lack of clarity.

Lots of people think condition reduction is like protection where it’s applied to the entire amount after positive modifiers. This is not true, it was tested a very long time ago and shown that positive/negative modifiers cancel each other out.

While I agree that the mesmer attacks should receive the same treatment, the only reason I can see why it’s like that is because those skills don’t deal direct damage, or damage over time. Ranger doesn’t have any skills that do damage that won’t reveal him, engi idk.

Actually rangers have entangle. I don’t think the attack does any damage, only the roots. So there is no valid reasoning to this- even caltrops isn’t nerfed in the same way. People can stay in stealth and do way more damage with caltrops than SB 4.

That doesn’t defend what you’re trying to say, and if you’re still crying about the range nerf to SB, ranger SB got the same treatment. Why is it logical that you can attack enemies from stealth? I assume because you don’t want SB to reveal you, you also want every other attack to keep you in stealth and you only lose it when it runs out? Any attack by the player in stealth should reveal them, not that hard of a concept to grasp.

You aren’t listening. I’m saying the nerf is NOT about the skill, it’s about the class. You say attacks by a player in stealth should reveal them but have you even considered mesmer’s temporal curtain, swap or moa skills? None of them reveal the mesmer and they come directly from it. We’re not even talking about the phantasms here. I don’t own a ranger or engi but I’m sure they have skills which don’t reveal them either. What on earth did you think I was referring to?

What: “placed” AoE (i.e. Caltrops, Choking gas)
Why: Everything Thieves do must apply Revealed debuff, even if they fart in a crowded bus.

^ joke came true.

Yeah a 4sec poison field is definitely more powerful than a ranger pet, mesmer illusion or engi turret. >_>

Because any of those classes have as much stealth as a thief? Stealth is the thief’s mechanic, the other classes don’t have anywhere near as much in comparison.

When you consider that mesmers don’t get revealed when attacking from stealth, they can spend almost as much time per minute stealthed as a thief.. The other two don’t have the same access but that’s hardly valid when talking about ‘balancing’ a mechanic for one profession but not doing the same for others that use that very same mechanic. If stealth is going to reveal, it should ALWAYS do so.

The only reason this feels like a nerf more than a fix is because thief isn’t as AI reliant as the other classes you mentioned, but like I said, any AI the thief does actually have won’t reveal the player.

It is not a fix, it will never be a fix. It is another nerf to shortbow, on a 4 second poison field(lol). If we’re going to complain about attacks not forcing a player to leave stealth there are much more powerful things than a poison field. No one complains about shortbow but it is the most nerfed thief weapon set, all of the skills are nerfed. Even warrior longbow has a long way to go before it’s on par with the super duper overpowered thief shortbow.

Wrong. Hambow became mainstream after Car Crash versus Sync where it was used to counter spirit ranger and necromancer. It wasn’t popular before then as far as I know.

Pretty much. To many on the forum, warriors countering rangers/necros became one of those epiphany moments. Metas are set by these large tournament outcomes. The same thing is happening with the TCG builds. After they won, their builds became public knowledge and entered the mainstream. Now the thief/warrior builds are being shaved.

There’s a good reason no warrior can go into competitive PVP without those two. Nerfing blind will allow warriors to switch up their builds a bit more,

Is Tiny really fair in PvP?

in PvP

Posted by: data.4093

data.4093

Tiny is sort of a double edged sword, you will be hit by attacks that are inside your hitbox but that are graphically far from you.
Of course this also means that your enemies will feel safe while they are still within reach, very situational imo.

It’s not really a double edged sword because this affects essentially all characters except the biggest ones. Sylvari and even humans hit outside the area they swing a sword so if you’re an asura people might actually think they need to be closer in order to hit you, making it a double advantage. You hit them when you’re visually far away and they don’t attack you until they’re right on top of your character.

Besides the advantages talked about all the time, asuras actually have an enormous advantage when it comes to skill animations because not only do auto attacks scale, large AOEs scale too. It’s already been demonstrated several times that something like an asuran necro will hit outside their visible aoe range(like plague). If you want to see the difference get a character with a 240 radius skill like shadow refuge and have a necro activate plague inside it. The circles won’t match up but the attack still works at the correct radius. The issue is, even if Anet fixed this and scaled all AOE the same you would have an even harder time distinguishing asura characters. You might see the AOE better but get totally lost in all the clutter.(if you don’t already…)

WvW for map completion is just pure griefing.

If you have legendaries, THAT IS YOUR TROPHY. If you have more than 2 legendaries(like the OP, who has 8 ) what are you whining about? The legendary IS your trophy, not the title. The title is just for people who have 2 identical ones. You still have the best stats in the game that can be changed at will and you are still protected against further vertical progression.
