This whole thing makes me wonder if the Spider Queen melee poison change was even intended, or if it was just another bug they never bothered to fix or acknowledge.

I don’t envy your position, Dusk, but you’ve been doing a great job as specialist. It must be especially frustrating to be the man-in-the-middle between the mob and the wall, but you’ve been handling it well. Kudos.

Not to mention that 7-8/10 times people who join are fully ascended which is individually 7.48% damage boost but in a party full of ascendeds, that’s 37.4% damage boost which is always welcome!

Lupi on thief is so much fun. I can’t solo, but I do ok, I think. Here’s my basic approach:

Phase 1: Not much different from anything else. Dodge kicks, d/d (or s/p if many locusts), dodge grub, blah blah

Phase 1->2 transition: Dive under his feet and pop dagger storm. Better to take the grub and handle it properly than let a PUG take it.

Phase 2: double-dodge + Withdrawl for the scattered AoEs. Dodge swipe. d/d.

Phase 3: Dodge + withdrawl for the big lifesteal, double dodge for single target. d/d.

Misc:
- Steal/heartseeker to close gaps in phases 2/3.
- Signet of Agility + 3 points in Acrobatics (take vigorous recovery) makes it a lot easier to keep your endurance up. Signet of Agility is an awesome “Oh kitten!” button for the phase 2 AoEs.
- Shadowstep for stunbreak/domes

Good luck with the counseling, that sounds like a rough situation. Hope things get better for you guys.

Thanks, Dusk. I hope they let us know if this was intentional or not — I’d hate to see another Alphard situation where the boss is broken for months while we’re unsure whether or not they ever intend to revert the behavior.

reply: “from achieving.”

Let's talk about crafting speed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dlonie.6547

dlonie.6547

“crafting in bulk” only take few minutes top…

Not quite. I refine mats “for a living” these days, and in order to do that and make it worthwhile usually means refining about 2.5k mats. I know it seems like crafting is very fast on a small scale, but 10 refined stacks = about 40 minutes spent waiting.

Granted, I’m moving a very high volume of items, so I expect it to take a while. So I’m not complaining about crafting speed, just pointing out that there are legitimate crafting endeavors that can take far, far more than a few minutes

Note that the 40 minutes is per-item I craft and resell. I usually do 10-20 of these per day (some are as quick as 2-3 minutes, others upto an hour), and it can really add up.

My old solution? Just watch netflix while waiting to finish

My new solution as of today: buy a dedicated crafting/flipping account for $10 so I can still play the game on my primary account and let the new account craft away \o/

@dlonie, if they went that route they could just import the PVP voting system yeah? Choose a map you want it gets added to the possible queues, to keep it random you could have a 1 vote for everything initially and your team can only strengthen the odds at certain maps. That’s what I figured Spoj meant when he suggested it a while back.

Exactly — I think that would actually be a far more intuitive approach. So long as each map starts with 1 vote, I’d love to see that.

Re: “opting out” of certain fractals

What if, by interacting with the observatory terminal, a popup appeared that let players set preferences for which shard they’d like to run? Each player would indicate which fractals they’d like to run, and these would be blessed by RNGsus — the selection would become weighted to favor them. This could also have a negative vote mechanic where disliked fractals would have their odds lowered. The UI would be simple:

Title text: “Set shard preferences: A [green checkmark] will increase the odds of selecting a shard, while a [red X] will lower the likelihood:”

List:
[ ] Swamp
[ ] Uncategorized
[ ] Volcanic
…. etc.

Clicking on the [ ] element will cycle through [ ], [green checkmark], and [red X].

Behind the scenes, the selection process would consider all of the party members individual votes to come up with a final set of shard weights for the RNG selection. The more checkmarks a shard has, the higher its probability. The more X’s, the lower the probability.

This way, every fractal still has a chance of being selected, but there would be some control over the selection process.

Optional:
- selections could be saved from session to session
- Should selections be kept private? I think so, but it could go either way.

Thoughts?

Re: stacking instabilities It seems that this would be very difficult to balance. There are currently fractals + instabilities that create significant frustration — not challenge, but frustration — due to the interactions of mechanics and instabilities. Level 39 cliffside is one I’ve experienced, and though it was interesting for a while, it soon became tedious and annoying as it went on. Forcing these annoyances to be present at all levels > X, as well as stacking many together, would not add much enjoyable challenge IMO.

Re: Locking fractals into levels (e.g. harpy can only be second, etc) This would completely stop most folks from running the first tier fractals other than swamp. I think if it’s going to be randomized, allowing fractals to appear in multiple stages is fine.

There are various item’s that have been removed from the game that can still be found on the trading post. (ex. training manuals)

Is it at all possible to remove these items completely? They are being sold for more than just copper or silver, but for gold. People, such as myself, I admit it, who are not aware that these items are now useless, are spending their hard earned gold on them and getting snookered by the sellers.

Please look into this!

They are an important gold sink.

What about a repeating fractal completion reward?

Allow us to pick the fractals we run, and if we run all of them in a given timeframe (week? two weeks? one month?), there is some sort of bonus. This would be an easy way to help prevent the issue where everyone just focuses on the fast/rewarding fractals.

It’d be similar to dungeons, where the only time most of us run CoF3, SE2, HotW2/3, etc is when someone wants their Dungeon Master achievement. If it were a repeating reward (AP, laurels, karma, mist essense, relics, ascended gear, whatever), it would provide incentive to still run everything, without being forced to by RNG.

Choice + reward > RNG

They could add fractal specific relicts. If you want to buy a weapon skin or an armor skin (that hopefully gets implemented) from the fractal npc (that hopefully also gets implemented), you need an equal number of tokens from each fratal.

Oooh, I like that.

A few tokens for rare, a decent sum for exotics, and to make it more fractal-y and top it off — an exorbitant amount for ascended.

That’d be pretty awesome

Kinda pathetic…the hardcore dungeon community tells people to start their own groups and find likeminded players so they don’t bring down full zerk parties on the LFG.

And then mock/troll the hell out of them when they try to do so.

Good on you OP — I’m really impressed with how maturely you’ve been handling the trolling. Best of luck in getting your group together so you can play dungeons how you want without pushing your opinions on others.

Dear dlonie.6547,

Thank you for your comforting encouragement I think you have aptly alluded to the fact that there is a difference between requesting for zerkers, and demanding that people be zerkers. The former is choice, while the latter is just coercion. We appreciate your well-wishes, and we are on our way to creating a stable group of regulars.

Yours Faithfully,

Ohlette

Oh sneaky deleted posts…making me look crazy xD

When I made that post, there were a number of other posts from well-known dungeon folks who are somewhat fond of trolling people who aren’t 100% pure meta. The posts were mocking and trolling you for using a healing/support guardian in your party instead of going 100% zerk DPS. Some of these posts remain, but some were deleted, so now my post looks a bit out of place…The bolded bit was more directed at them to knock it off and let you search for likeminded party members in peace

Again, good on ya. And thumbs up to the people who took down their troll posts — it’s too easy to get caught up in that mindset on these forums, what with all the venomous hardcore antizerkers about!

I really do have a lot of hope for the encounters (open world or otherwise) in future content. The LS episodes and SW bosses show that they are focusing on making content that exercises the game’s combat engine more. The original GW2 tested out some ideas, and HoT looks like they’re refining them and building upon the original gameplay design.

Even without good instanced content, I’ll get HoT just to see what they’ve done with combat. I’ll sorely miss the experience of going into a challenge with a small group of friends and fighting our way through, carrying our own weight, feeling the satisfaction of mastering an encounter where your effort matters, etc — but experiencing some of the fights (and just seeing the bosses visually) will be a good time. Not as replayable as instanced content, but a good time nonetheless.

Does this not give any of you a little hope after 2 years of nothing?

Hope that mechanics will continue to improve? Sure. Wyvern sounds pretty cool, this quote makes me interested in what else is coming.

Being 100% serious here, do you honestly think it would make any difference? Have you noticed any positive posts sparking interaction more than negative ones? Or do you just see a blanket policy of “never interact with the players”, regardless of game mode?

Save a few notable exceptions (Josh/Justin/Erin on the PvP team, and the API devs), all I’ve seen is the latter.

The devs so quite often have PR handcuffs when it comes to forum posts. But you shouldn’t make the mistake of assuming that since they can’t interact openly that they aren’t reading and listening.

Yes, I think it would make a great deal of difference to limit criticism to being constructive and to not make QQ posts about a lack of attention/content etc. It’s not so conveniently compartmentalized for them. Creating a cynical post might seem, to you, limited to that post or that thread but on concert with all the other posters, posts and thread it’s creating a cloud of negativity. And like I said, a lot of the criticism and negativity is probably well deserved, but voicing it with hostility just isn’t the answer.

I have seen first hand how being productive and constructive can lead to good developer relationships and can get things accomplished so I know it works better than the alternative.

Can’t argue with you there. The policy restrictions are the problem, and they’re appalling enough to me that it’s worth complaining about. Many good players have been run off by not just the lack of content, but the lack of information coming out — and we went a long time without either. HoT is starting to change that, but this community is still waiting for something solid they can look forward to. It’s foolish to ignore history, and the history of this company’s treatment of dungeons leads us to believe that we shouldn’t get excited over hype, as it often fails to live up to the presentation.

Personally, I do try not to just blame the “devs” generically, as it’s certainly not their fault. They don’t set company policies, nor do they decide what development areas to prioritize. From reading glassdoor, I see that many of them are just as fed up with the situation as we are. I sympathize with them quite a bit, tbh. My complaints are with the people higher up.

That’s really awesome that you’ve managed to build a postive relationship with some of the ArenaNet team. Was this in the open or behind closed doors? Curious, because more meaningful public player-dev interactions would do a lot to improve the players’ opinion of the team — it would for me anyway. Maybe the forum specialists program will provide this — but it’s too early to tell.

I’m starting to ramble, but I’ll just add that I’m not fond of the cloud of negativity either, though I’ll readily admit to contributing to it. I’d be thrilled to see a healthy relationship form between the company and the players. But neglect of customers, perceived or real, will always breed animosity. We don’t see a company presence in these forums, and when the cat’s away….

Believe me, I’ve felt the same way as all of you, and in many ways I still feel very similarly. But I have the good sense to not contribute to making this place terrible by constantly whining about it. Maybe you don’t actually want developer interaction or new content?

The level of sour people full of cynicism (generally deserved, true) is so high here that they are quite right to ignore all of us.

So, chicken or the egg?

Yeah, as if he weren’t a part of it. Always superior.

I take it you think when I post ideas or point out things that should be changed it’s substantively equivalent to the “mommy, anet doesn’t like me” posts. You’ll find what I don’t do is trash talk devs, feel sorry for myself that anet doesn’t make content for me and I don’t make posts saying how much I dislike the game. I also don’t scour every single interview or article for quotes I can parse to either make myself feel better or worse depending on my mood. So no, I am not part of it.

lol, deSade nailed it — always superior!

This is the dungeon forum:

This is where we express disappointment about dungeons and associated content being largely neglected since shortly after release.
This is where we speculate on the future of such content.
This is where we vent frustrations about seeing the hype train roll past the content we want to see added and expanded.

Condescendingly dismissing any such conversations as “mommy, anet doesn’t like me” is quite hyperbolic and exaggerated. I haven’t seen any posts that seriously claim ArenaNet “doesn’t like” any one of us, or that there is some agenda against us personally. I see a lot of snark and cynicism, a lot of pent up frustration, and a lot of resentment at the neglect and silence.

All I’ve seen is disappointment and frustration that they don’t consider the content we enjoy to be a worthwhile investment for the future of the game — IMO, a wholly valid topic for discussion here.

For the sake of context, I do respect you, Nike — you’ve done a lot of good for this community and been a reliable source of good information. But this ego/superiority thing….it often gets in the way of any messages you may be trying to communicate.

Adding more Mistlock Instabilities, on the other hand, is a bad idea:

1) RNG level selection can make them meaningless or a nightmare.
2) They’re easily skipped.
3) There is absolutely zero incentive to play them.

It’s just not a good system. Some of the ideas they’ve implemented are pretty interesting: reversing boon/condition effects, exploding enemies, etc — really cool ideas, but the instability system just doesn’t work well.

incentive…….. why do you still play them then?

I don’t. See (2).

Like most people, I stick to the easier ones. If you RNG certain shards with certain instabilities, it can be very not-fun (personal opinion) to finish — especially considering there’s no actual reward in doing so. From reading your posts, I get it — you like them. Me, I found many of them rather gimmicky and once I’ve done them once, there’s not much reason to play them again.

The large number of levels provides a progression mechanism. It’s designed with the following in mind:

1) Players must do a higher level to increase their PR.
2) Most players will only play fractals maybe 10 levels above their PR.
3) Daily rewards are only given once per tier per day.

This essentially timegates PR progression — unless you want to give up on a lot of rewards, you’ll only increase your PR once, maybe twice per day.

The individual levels are only there to slow progression — not to noticeably increase difficulty. The difficulty only changes noticeably per tier.

Which I think is a valid way to do things. It encourages (but not forces) players to work their way up to 50 slowly and progressively learn the more challenging encounters, and adds a bit of meaning to having earned PR50.

I think it’d be ok to keep this design and just add more tiers. Nike’s proposed changes seem good to me. If the encounters were as difficult as described, a 25g reward doesn’t seem terribly unreasonable (though I doubt it’d fly with ArenaNet!).

Adding more Mistlock Instabilities, on the other hand, is a bad idea:

1) RNG level selection can make them meaningless or a nightmare.
2) They’re easily skipped.
3) There is absolutely zero incentive to play them.

The negativity on these forums is pretty strong. I wouldn’t tell any of you anything anyway. Imagine what could happen.

1. Anet says nothing about dungeons. A bunch of QQ self-pity posts here, as we are seeing today.

2. Anet says “there will be dungeons but we can’t talk about it.” Incoming threads with laundry lists of angry demands for what it must and must not have. As if anet has had no understanding of the flaws and strengths of previous content. They are well aware lupicus is a good boss, and that NPC scripting sucks.

3. Anet reveals everything about their upcoming dungeons and people dont like the ideas and we get a bunch of cry baby posts. Mixture of 1 and 2.

4. Worst option of all, anet offers to communicate with the community here (big mistake) and solicits feedback. We would get #2 but even more aggressive and mean spirited, along with entitlement and egoism and a healthy dose of i-told-you-so. Remember the last time they offered to communicate with everyone here? It was basically like negotiating with an irrational angry mob. Shocking they stopped responding.

The level of sour people full of cynicism (generally deserved, true) is so high here that they are quite right to ignore all of us.

You have a point about the forums being full of sour, cynical people who have no faith in ArenaNet. I’m really sad that it’s gotten to that point :/

That said, I have a feeling that option #3 would go over better than you propose — sure, there would be people splitting hairs and nitpicking specifics, but I think most of us would be dancing in the Tyrian streets, TBH.

You also left out a plausible scenario:

5. There are no dungeons in HoT, and ArenaNet does or does not say anything. We’d see a flareup of rage and angst like what happened after gamescon, but we’d all settle back into the status quo after a couple of weeks (those of us who stay, anyway).

Stupid work computer…I never set up the sound on it so it’ll keep quiet in the office.

The captions on that youtube clip hinted at what they were saying, but had a lot of errors. Can someone summarize what they said?

I’m hoping you just proved me wrong, Trigger

I guess I need to push into higher level fractuals for a more enjoyable game play (for me).

High level FotM are good, or find a good group to duo/trio with (or solo, if you really want the challenge). Most paths can be done by 2-3 people, and Arah is especially fun IMO

At this point, a lot of the fights feel more…appropriate with fewer people. I think my favorite was a CoE duo a couple months ago. Even the golem trash fights get a decent boost to challenge when you don’t have the DPS to LOS and cleave in a corner.

well they didnt say “no”. they are just like “we cant talk about it”….

Yeah, but…

Q: “Will there be new dungeons/fractals?”

A: “We’ve already talked about all of the major features of HoT.”

is a pretty clear “no” in my book. However, actually acknowledging that, you know, people actually play dungeons is a refreshing change.

if you think about it, if they want to do raids for example, you can bet it wont be ready when they release the expansion.

From the CDI, I agree. I guess I was hoping that they would have planned to include a couple of dungeons in HoT independently of the aborted Raiding CDI.

I don’t find the reset of that quote (in the edit) to be promising. They deflected the “small group” part of the question and went on talking about open world.

:(

10 Mastery Points: Exalted Purification – You’ve become honored among the Exalted. You can now challenge their Champion each day and unlock their finest treasures within the Golden City.

Sounds like a boss instance or a mini dungeon. Skeptical how this is going to turn out. Anet are being intentionally vague about challenging group content so im struggling to look at these hints positively at this point.

Agreed. My bet is that the Champion is a world boss. I expect that world bosses will be more like VW/Marrionette instead of golem/fire ele/etc, but it’s still a far cry from an actual instanced challenge.

I just can’t find something challenging if I can AFK and be carried by the herd.

The new encounter design is definitely better than the old ones, but the only way to really fail is not having enough people spamming autoattacks while watching netflix. Personal contribution doesn’t exist without instancing.

OH BOY CHALLENGING GROUP CONTENT!!!!

Too bad they really don’t seem to understand (care?) that groups can be smaller than 20.

Got a link for that btw? I feel like getting depressed.

I like the opening line, too:

Over two years ago, ArenaNet launched the sequel to Guild Wars 2, it’s first successful MMO.

With every core system in the game, we looked at where they were and said ‘Hey, are these at a place that we’re happy with?’ Almost always at our studio, the answer is ‘no’. Providing choice to players, providing progression to players without invalidating what you’ve done before. With Hearts of Thorns, every system that we’ve touched and every piece of content we’ve touched is driven by that desire to respect players’ time.

You guys are so used to annoying antizerkers it makes me cringe xD

OP isn’t whining about it, calling it an exploit, or saying people who are using it are bad and should stop. They’re just trying to find out if that’s all the game is. I can imagine the feeling, walking into the game and this point and seeing the “challenging” dungeon content getting facerolled by uncoordinated pugs.

No need to be angry over this post I think OP was just expecting more from a dungeon challenge.

I mean, we all feel that frustration/disappointment, right?

That’s pretty much the PUG experience.

To put in in perspective, we’ve been running these same paths for two years (blah blah blah aetherpath blah blah TAFU blah blah net change blah blah long time). At this point, people just rush them, since they’ve already squeezed as much fun as they can from them.

You’ll see less of this in Arah and Fractals, but pugging low level dungeons is going to be a snorefest.
