[i]Maybe you and these dozens of friends could play together? No one is forcing you to join our groups and play our way. So why do you insist on having the game changed so we have to play your way? Not that I doubt you know people, but a meta is created and maintained by the majority. It isn’t a meta unless it is accepted by the majority.
Make your own group? It works… really it does. [\i]
I take it you are one of the types who would vote to kick a player for not being able to keep up with your elite dungeon running knowledge… There’s no reason for hostility. The truth if the matter is that putting up a LFG for a group that actually wants to play the game doesn’t work. So I can already guess your response.
“Well then, you and your friends shouldn’t play dungeons. They are perfectly fine the way they are.”
I keep replying to you this morning, but it’s hard not to. His post wasn’t hostile — yours was. You even put in your post that the hostility was the result of a fantasized dialogue that only exists in your head and in your posts.
I agree, Derenek, it’d be great if folks could have more constructive attitudes towards other players.
In the meantime, I’m just gonna leave these two sentences here, unedited:
They may actually have a life. Be welcoming to all players and support each other
O.o
Don’t you guys get tired of “pull the lever, out comes cheese… pull the lever, out comes cheese… Repeat… Etc…” You don’t want something new and challenging?
Yep. That’s why there are very few dungeon folks left, and most of us here actually play other games and just keep up with the forums for….reasons (I’ve been having a blast in ESO since it went B2P). But ArenaNet is never going to fix the AI in these dungeons. Dungeons are dead — they aren’t going to touch them again. All we can hope for is that the new “Challenging Group Content” in HoT is actually instanced and for small groups. More than likely, though, we’ll see more Vinewraths.
We’d love to see improved dungeons, but give up hope now. Take from those of us who have been hoping for 2+ years, only to be disappointed and ignored time and time again. It’s just not worth getting your hopes up for.

lol, what I see in dungeons is people auto-kicking and booting non-level 80’s. Lots of demands to verify full berserker gear and occasionally random hate and mockery of newer players.
Just so the toxic elitists know before they start saying I must never run dungeons, I got all ascended gear and I’ve run the dungeons hundreds of times. Even though I know the dungeons inside out, I am still very frustrated by the “Meta”. People should be able to play any build any use any type of gear. If players actually supported each other and played through the dungeon and understood if newer players died instead of kicking them or just leaving them behind as they run the dungeon the dungeons wouldn’t be such a frustrating experience for most newer and casual players.
This was a nice thread. A newer player comes in, asks nicely for help, and the community helped them out, answered their questions — even offered to take OP on some teaching runs to show them the ropes.
Then you come in, spewing a completely unrelated rant against those “toxic elitists” and railing against zerkers, LFG restrictions, etc.
smh.
This is a much higher quality post than most anti-stacking threads. Decent suggestions for the most part. Forgive the folks who jump down your throat for making the suggestion — we’re not used to people framing things constructively and tend to react rather nastily when these topics crop up.
You’re wasting your time, though, OP. People have been asking for this for three years (usually with far more spelling and grammar errors, not to mention the raging tone and complete lack of thought going into their suggestions…). ArenaNet has said nothing and done nothing, so I wouldn’t expect anything to change. After all, dungeon development is a thing of the past for ArenaNet. They won’t be touching these dungeons again.
I like suggestion 4 though. It’d be a pretty nice solution that we could discuss. The discussion would be completely in vain, ofc, but I don’t think we’ve really weighed the pros and cons of such an approach on here before.

necro this back to life because everyone should know about this dissapointing announcement. 8 months ago or not
I wasn’t aware of this announcement and being a dedicated fractal / dungeon player this is sad news to read & hear.
Agreed. I’ve been waiting for someone to bump this. Hell, this should probably be stickied so new players who like dungeons will know what their future holds.
But let’s be real:

i fail to believe anet would dissapoint such a big userbase of their game.
Give it time. You’ll accept it, just like the rest of us.
(edited by dlonie.6547)
The burrows are pretty hard to fail these days. I think the only times we’ve struggled with them since the NPE/ferocity changes are:
1) Low-manning with a bad party composition.
2) Playing with snowflakes, for example: rangers who insist that their setup is fine for the encounter, because “shortbow pierces”
3) Playing with inexperienced people who run to Hodgins to fight gravelings, but just attract more and more of them.
Can’t really complain about (1), that how it works if you want to have the challenge of a poorly designed lowman run. (2) is annoying. Nothing to do but keep trying or kick. When (3) happens, it’s my fault for not explaining that “defending hodgins” doesn’t actually involve actively defending him (or their fault for not letting us know that they’re new).
Sounds like one or more inexperienced people must have been on the team for that to fail. As pointed out above, weapon choice makes a huge difference, and folks who are used to openworld PvE have never had a build decision actual affect their gameplay before, so rangers gonn’ range >.<
Why not make a hard mode? Hard mode will keep lupi like this and change alphard back before he was nerfed.
There will definitely never be a hard mode.
I wonder if it will be just like “there will never be an expansion”? Hmm…
lolz. Not getting my hopes up.
Well, I’d never thought this community was so nice to newbies.
And in the dungeon forum, no less!
We’re actually quite welcoming and friendly to people who don’t rush in to label us all as ‘dirty exploiting elitists’, or complain that content wasn’t a faceroll on their first attempt and demand nerfs >.<
Your post was thoughtful, friendly, and asks for information/help. You’re quite welcome here!
P.P.P.S: Is there a meta here in GW2, dlonie? In your post you mentioned “Ice Bow meta”, wich i presume involves the elementalist’s conjured weapon.
Yep! Others have explained IB chaining well. It really is quite dull after a while, but it undeniably fastest in most situations.
The general meta is full DPS — berserker gear, Scholar runes, sigils of force, etc. Runes and sigils vary a bit per class as there are synergies between class utilities and certain sets, but in general, “more damage is better” is a good rule of thumb.
That said, without a bit of experience, it can be difficult to survive in full zerk (berserkers) DPS gear. Zerk gear is Power (base damage), Precision (crit chance), and Ferocity (crit damage). While you’re learning, Knight’s gear (Tough/Power/Prec) or even Soldier’s gear (Power/Tough/Vitality) are good sets that let you take a hit or two while you learn the bosses.
For specifics of the meta, Wethospu has done a freaking amazing job maintaining gw2dungeons and has a section that talks about the GW2 PvE meta in general, with more profession specific information available: http://gw2dungeons.net/Meta That really is your best bet for learning how higher-end dungeons runs are typically structured in this game.
I’m asking because, reading around, I’ve seen almost everyone posting something like “Mix-Maxing is for other games, GW2 is different”; “Stop with your Classic MMOs stereotypes” etc.
GW2 is a casual game, and this casual attitude is prevalent. Players want to be coddled, and they are. If I had to sum up the problems with the GW2 userbase in two words, they would be: Login Rewards
I showed up, now where’s my trophy?
Be warned that getting invested in dungeons in this game is a path to frustration. If you end up really liking them and having fun (as many of us have), you’ll eventually want more. That will never happen. ArenaNet announced a while back that they aren’t working on new dungeons, and they don’t pay any attention to them, aside from an occasional massive exp/gold producing exploit. What we have is what we have, and they will not be releasing new ones or putting significant resources toward improving the existing ones. See this thread for the reason most dungeon enthusiasts have left this game. So keep that in mind up front and you’ll save yourself a lot of disappointment.
Looks like my main account has finally received the banhammer treatment for “altering game files”.
Should have just stolen some dungeons instead. Way less risk.
this guy runs toward my mob
Huh?
Either mentor guild is good, though I believe the [NOOB] guild is more active these days.
Regarding gear: When I’m leveling an alt, I try to make sure I have at least all rare gear at an appropriate level for the dungeon. IIRC, some gear components don’t have rare versions available at 35, but the better the gear, the easier it will be. This can be difficult on your first toon, as you won’t have a lot of gold or dungeon tokens saved up to get the gear, but try to get the best you can if you want to have a smooth experience.
As Jerus mentioned, learning the encounters is the best way to survive in this game. A lot of dungeon runners have been running these same 8 dungeons for the last two (going on three) years…we know them inside-out. Don’t feel too discouraged if you’re having trouble with encounters that you see others handling easily. The reason it appears so easy for the other players is that they’ve literally memorized the encounters, or are using some cheezy tactics to shut the boss’s mechanics down while they DPS. The current ice bow meta is highly effective, but rather boring IMO
If you’re serious about learning the dungeons and want to run them regularly, a dungeon mentoring guild is the way to go. If you’re just testing the waters and want to see if you like them, try posting an LFG along the lines of “low level first timer, looking for teacher”. Don’t be shy about it — being explicit about your inexperience and willingness to learn will make your dungeon pick-up-groups (PUGs) much, much more enjoyable, as your average dungeon runners don’t have a lot of patience these days. However, there are a lot of players eager to help those who are willing to listen and learn.
Best of luck! Might want to also mention if you’re on NA or EU servers. It’s very likely that some forum regular might offer to show you the ropes
I wonder if mastery will be tied into, say, a leaderboard of sorts?

Ooh, I haven’t seen a thread like this in a while.
Can someone pass me a bingo card?
Watching new posters to the trashcan subform take sarcastic comments from regulars seriously
We all thought the endgame was racking up points in PvF.
Turns out the real endgame is watching new players lose hope and have their spirits break as they start to realize what is behind the curtain
Swifty, sad but true. I’ve received that message long ago, hence why I now play ESO and just log on to GW2 for flipping crap, “just in case”. I barely even do that anymore, though. I had such high hopes for this game (and a ton of fun for the first year), but ArenaNet the company has completely soured Guild Wars 2 the game for me. Hell, I’m only on these forums because it’s so hard to look away from the trainwreck.
Jerus hits a homerun. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Not to mention easy (self-imposed ANet-internal communication barriers aside…), and the bare minimum of effort needed for a healthy customer relationship…
Dusk, that’s a good point about MMO communities, but that’s just the nature of the business, and a poor excuse to outright refuse to discuss, or even acknowledge, issues like this one. I’m preaching to the choir on this, but it’s just so unbelievably backwards that I can’t help but vent, eyes wide and jaw-agape.
Oh well. I’ll shut up before I get us all implicated as a bunch of neighbor-tuggers (they started kitty-ing the CJ phrase?) again.
You guys are awesome <3
I’m still amazed that something like an NDA would be required for them to confirm/deny if a change was intentional. Absolutely blows my mind that they believe this is a good practice. Anyhoo, thanks for answering
I certainly can’t speak for them, but they used to be a lot more open about this kind of thing years back. Then players started taking everything they said literally and writing a ton of MMO articles about how they break promises, which ANet understandably would like to avoid. It’s those players who cried havoc for so long we really have to blame about how shy ANet developers are. None of them want to risk their job over something as simple as confirming/denying whether something is a bug, so they err on the side of caution and simply don’t tell anyone anything unless they’re explicitly told to.
It’s a crying shame, really, but I personally don’t blame them for it. What if they confirmed this was a bug and then later before they fixed it decided they wanted to keep it as-is? A lot of players would raise a lot of undue hell over that.
Sure, going back on what they said will cause backlash (as will any action they do, such is the nature of this business), but reasonable people would be understanding if they would share their rational for changing their mind. IMO, it’s much worse for a company to keep customers in the dark and actively dodge questions about significant changes to their product. Such behavior is sketchy, and doesn’t inspire much confidence on the consumer end.
Choosing to deny basic support and communication to their users out of fear that a few loud individuals won’t be able to understand that “kitten Happens”…this is not a healthy business practice in my mind.
But eh, I’ve tried enough to get them to see how damaging this is to their reputation and the health of the game. One thing is for certain: they want to keep things this way.
Sounds right to me, Jerus. Get naked, and have some hardcore fun thrills while getting whipped.
What’s the problem? :-S
I’m jealous of whatever drugs deSade is using.
You need to share. Srsly.
I’ve been happy to see that you’re pushing them. Someone needs to! Keep up the good work, I think its safe to say that we’re all pretty happy with how you’ve been representing us.
I’m still amazed that something like an NDA would be required for them to confirm/deny if a change was intentional. Absolutely blows my mind that they believe this is a good practice. Anyhoo, thanks for answering
Dusk, you’re a champ. Thanks for sharing what you know — you’re able to see a bit farther over the wall than we are.
BTW, when you mentioned that none of it was confirmed, does that include the change to Necrid Bolt being intentional? Is that just a guess, or did they tell you that?
Somewhat related, do they give you actual responses with substance from time to time regarding your reports? Or just a generic “Thanks for the feedback, keep up the good work!”?
Awww, now I miss Lucas. I’d almost say that we need a new bingo sheet, but the game is in such bad shape that we don’t even have PHIWs in here hassling us anymore :-(
There was a time when I assumed after 3 years post-release we will have the double amount of dungeons and move on. Now after nearly 3 years people still solo Lupi.
Forget soloing, you can still skip Lupi completely after 3 years.
I’m sure the “challenging group content” in HoT they keep avoiding will make up for it.
Mmhmm.
I’m a little bit fuzzy off medications atm so excuse my typing , but I believe I have found the mother of all pug experiences. enjoy
Wow. You found the King of the Fricktards there…I just don’t understand how people can be so dense O.o
So I just got an infraction for passingly mentioning Dub’s DPS meter in the general subforum.. Do they not realize there’s like a 100+ post thread here about it?
This made me spittake my coffee xD
Consistency is key!
They removed dungeons from the in game bug report options a few patch ago.
if we ever permanently stop working on a particular area of the game, we will tell you
I was expecting something a little more direct, tbh, but I guess that works too.
It was so much easier to give a kitten about this game back when the developers did, too.
This is going to be like the vote kick change. A few months of “I’ll get back to you” before a change goes in randomly with no word back whatsoever. It’s not a huge deal but I wish we could at least have a “The developers told me what happened was ‘x’, they are planning to do ‘y’, I can’t give you a time but it’s on their short list of bug fixes.”
Or Alphard’s bug. Back when she was broken I actually got an infraction for daring to ask a direct question addressed to the dev team in a polite, friendly way. Hopefully that nonsense doesn’t start up again.
Let’s remember how that went: several months of people asking “is this intentional or not?”, no reply, and then one day it was magically fixed.
Gaile, you remember all of the communication threads, right? This is the sort of thing we’re talking about. Talk to us like people, engage in discussions, let us know what’s going on. As long as there are major bugs that go unacknowledged for months, you can’t seriously believe that there is an acceptable level of communication here by any standard.
The whole thing seems like a slight power creep for me.
Care to share your insights?
I thought the same thing when they said they’re increasing base stats and weapon stats.
Low level dungeon bosses are going to blow up even faster now.
Sit tight, Robert Hrouda is on it!
Oh, wait. Nvm.
I’m actively checking on this today. Thank you for your continued patience.
I guess the team is ignoring you, too? :-(
I’ll never understand why it’s so difficult for anyone to simply say whether a major change in behavior is intentional and whether it will be reverted or not. Is it really too much to ask?
We’re still waiting…
Welcome to the fast-paced world of GW2 player support!
really awesome story i must say
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sounds like half of us are talking about dungeons/PvE and the rest are talking about PvP/WvW.

I like the skip in Arah where you jump on the invisible wall to get farther xD
I’m not sure. I’ve not seen her bug in a while, since we’re now very, very careful about entering the final arena. I seem to recall that killing and ressing Detha may have worked in the past, but I’m not sure if that’s still the case.
This is one way to avoid the extremely tedious task of pinging your banner.
I really wanted to join with 3 other warriors and drop FIVE banners of discipline.
“I got this[Banner of Tactics]”
Hmm, another usecase that the party-leader system would fix…
That’s unacceptable.
lols. You must be new here. Long-standing issues like this are well within ArenaNet’s standards for “acceptable”, especially when it comes to dungeons.
Obligatory ANet shaming aside (please, please put together a maintenance team that has the resources to…um…maintain the game!), there are a few strategies to keep her from bugging. My guild usually just clears all the trash on the way to the ghost eater (starting from the Kholer waypoint). Alternatively, leading Detha to the back of the ghost eater room without triggering the defense event seems to work in the PUGs I’ve been in. Once she’s towards the back of the room, lead her to the center of the traps.
Both approaches seem to rely on making sure she is not in combat when the event triggers.
Oh Miku, I opened that expecting to see her just reset on you again.
She is trolling hard these days xD
(although why they haven’t bothered to put an invisible barrier at the top of that door is beyond me).
Why they haven’t bothered to redo the “Let’s sit around waiting 2 minutes for Spire to Baywatch-run into the room” bit is what’s beyond me.
Actually, I take that back. It’s because it’s a dungeon, duh.
SE
The deleted lava under the first bridge from past patch is now water. Better than nothing?ive noticed in pvp maps there is more water than there used to be, may be a bug?
Underwater dragon confirmed for next LS patch. On a serious note I don’t think anet will ever tell us about dungeon fixes unless it’s something involving a game breaking bug.
points to Alphard
Been playing ESO for the last couple of weeks. Might not be what bored folks here are looking for, but it’s come a long way since launch and is now B2P.
Might be worth checking out for some of you. I’ve been having a pretty good time with it
