WvW - no mobility, RIP
PvP - decent burst, no sustain, hard against melee classes that dance around you, and rifle butt is on too long of a CD for it to be truly useful, RIP
PvE (dungeons) - allows you to play safe, much lower DPS than optimal builds, RIP
PvE (open world) - same as dungeons, less of an issue though, RIP

Stephanie, like Spayced I just heard about Overwolf today from this announcement and thought to myself "oh wow, this sounds fun and perhaps Overwolf will give us some type of access to useful in-game information that we can in-turn build a responsive app from", but found to my disappointment that Overwolf is essentially a glorified overlay tool. The only information it is able to pull from the actual client is essentially ’window’ information (i.e. height, width, is it min/maxed, running, etc). Other than just being a tool that can allow one to easily overlay any type of web development, I’m just not sure what the use is here. I’d love to be able to get some more robust, read-only information like "name of player currently selected", or "weapons currently equipped" etc, which would allow us developers to take that information and use resources like the GW2 API to query against and provide some cool responses/useful information to the client side user to. Am I missing something with Overwolf?

AngryJoe Interview - HoT Questions for Devs?

Great questions so far!
I’m really excited about the event empowered by you guys! The event will be on Tuesday and ill return on Wed, but most of the stuff will be embargoed for a tiny bit after.

That’s funny you’re Joe as the other day I was re-watching your review of Guild Wars 2 again since I last saw it well over 2 years ago and thinking about the path the game has taken compared against what I initially expected. Since the game has certainly had it’s ups & downs I would be really interested to hear what ArenaNet thinks their biggest successes and failures are. Likewise, of course interested in what their future plans entail in particular to both PvE (e.g. more and more details about new, challenging, small group related content) and what their balance cycle for PvP is going to be post HoT (hopefully faster!). If anything Joe, ArenaNet feeds us a lot of over-hyped pieces - would be very interested to get your realistic take on it all. Keep up the good content.

I want to play soloq and not teamq

I would bet that almost every single person queueing solo is willing to wait longer for queues if it means not facing premades all the time.

How are we having this discussion again? This is literally a two-year-old discussion for this game. It’s why you guys added solo queue in the first place.

lol, this was my exact thoughts. Talk about full circle, huh?

I haven’t played this game seriously in a very long time, but I still liked to hop in and queue some matches every so often. With this patch I’ve had nothing but 5 man premades curb stomp me. I get the idea that it’s good to bring the community together, but this change felt more like a desperation for teamQ to have a bigger populace (probably because teamQ top teams have like 10+ minute queue times) by adding soloQ cannon fodder as opposed to a change that is for the benefit of the entire community. Really just feels like a top-down change where casuals like myself get dumped on - too much frustration to even bother.

On a separate note; death match anyone? 3v3 queue death match all day, yes? RIP game modes mentioned 1 1/2 years ago that were just demo maps from beta.

Actually, we split the balance update into multiple episodes because a single, 80 minute balance show was exhausting for both the team and the viewers.

As for content previews, when we are able to talk about upcoming content, we will include it on the show. Until then, the episodes will focus on tournaments and events happening within the competitive community.

Well let’s be realistic here Mark, Anet obviously has the ability to pre-record content, so you could more than easily record portions and compile it all into one video for us to take a look at as we please or summarize changes into a written document, etc. This spacing out and show itself is entirely for a hype/content train. Unless you literally think the changes are so mind-blowing here that your community base couldn’t possibly take them all in one single episode or combined forum post? Granted, I can’t complain because any information is welcome information, but don’t treat us like we’re brainless. We all know views on twitch drop incredibly when the show is just about ’community events’ as opposed to ’game changing balance decisions’.

Well after 5,022 hours on ranger and this is all ranger gets?

Rly? Apart from all these changes being pretty sweet, there are quite a number of them too. Don’t be so negative. I think this opens up some build variety. There are a lot of possibilities if you look past the longbow changes.

Yay you zerg runners will finally be able to sit in your zergs and be helpful. It doesnt change anything for spvp ranger. They will still get destroyed. This isnt anything to celebrate. Wait till all the other class buffs and changes come out and ranger will be right back in its useless spot.

I think you’re very confused.

Eh show me a ranger being viable in spvp with longbow or gs and i might change my mind =D

Hi, My name is Eurantien.

To be fair, I don’t think anyone would place glass/power Ranger as a top meta build w/ any weapon set. That being said, still a fun build that can do fairly well when in capable hands (just like any build in this game technically).

I don’t consider them viable yet, but if these changes go through I can see them being vey scary in pvp. We will have rangers loaded up with very high ranged damage and and soft cc.

Condi is getting a minor buff, but probably will be passed over for LB/GS.

Yea, I was kind of thinking they’ll have some good options on the Carrion/Valk/Knight sets. Glass (Zerk) will still probably be pretty rough, but it should allow for some high power output builds while wearing a decently defensive trinket (I think). We’ll see.

Well you can wipe everything from your memory you’ve read here so far, up to my post of course.

I run GS/Rifle both in PvP and WvW often (2,000 hours+ just on my warrior alone) and have a ton of fun with the build + blow up many targets very quickly (crack shot (impacts rifle 1-4), rifle 5, & sigil of fire are all multi-target abilities that can be put out by the rifle).

In formalized PvP, any good player should be able to kill a rifle warrior as long as they are simply paying attention (long animation for killshot, fairly long CD on rifle 5 (rifle butt), glass build, etc). That being said, I still run this build often in soloQ/teamQ and sit anywhere in the top few hundred or so using just this build.

In WvW, I drop people all the time with this build becuase it’s fairly easy to roll up on someone and get the 1500 range animation off without them noticing and I still have great roaming/positioning capabilities because of GS mobility.

Below are numerous highlights of this build and you can find the finer details of the build under my section on http://www.teamriot.org/builds.

I don’t think anyone hates Blu. However, saying he’s an All-star player is something he even alludes to and agrees he is not throughout his own post. It’s just lame Anet didn’t bring him along as a caster like he easily deserves. Puts this whole tournament and it’s results with an * (asterik) on it. For example, Blu goes, NA loses to EU, all we will here for a few months is weak NA excuses with "Well Blu was on the team, DUH". Either way, if you don’t care about the results of the tournament, then it should still be a fun event to attend & watch. On a side note, it would be hysterical if Blu went and NA won, haha.

He has done more work than anyone else in the community and deserves it more than anyone. At the same time he is not a top tier player like the others on the list and should not be playing in an "All Stars" competition, he is a caster not a player and we do not want the casting mess that was pax.

Agreed. I’m also confused why Caed is not on this list, did he ask not to be?

some people refused the offer / couldn’t go ask him yourself i guess? i wasnt sure if i could make it and it wasn’t all that appealing really.

not to mention this is community sports aka competitive social networking, which has never been my strong point. it’s pretty obvious who the frontrunners are going to be though lol

Ya I was just looking for a quick answer, I’m sure I’ll chat with Caed about it some time in the future - at work at the moment. As far as I gathered he was interested in going last we talked. Oh well, list looks good besides Blu - should have just default invited him to cast imo & I would have enjoyed a larger list to include some of the lesser known, but talented pvpers. Too bad there isn’t a formal ranking system that could accurately be used to simply pick the best players from. ><.

1. See Skyham pop, relog as engi. Problem solved.
2. Hotjoin, TeamQ or PvE so you don’t have to Skyham.
3. Harden up, know your role, know your enemy, stay away from edges, play better and have fun.

Um, I’m a top 100 soloQ player running Warrior GS/Rifle (lol!). Trust me, I have an idea of how to PvP on skyham even with a build that is terrible for the map. Thanks for the feedback though. I, along with many others, simply do not enjoy the map - I win on Skyhammer all the time.

Autobalance moving winning to losing team!

in PvP

Posted by: docMed.7692

docMed.7692

I can’t say I’ve come across a scenario where I’ve been swapped and then we in-turn win, but I ended up with a loss. I don’t hot-join much any more, but I know the auto-balance system was originally intended to not impact the individuals subject to it. May be a good question for the devs to clarify on those rarer scenarios.

Autobalance moving winning to losing team!

in PvP

Deadnight; if you get switched automatically to the opposing team, no matter what happens - if you simply stay in the game, you get an auto-win. They already thought of the lameness of a win/loss in those scenarios. That being said, if you get switched to the losing team and are simply frustrated because the losing team is getting stomped on, that is a different issue. Nonetheless, it’s just hot-join, you shouldn’t be too upset in those scenarios, just view it as a challenge to claw back in.

just wondering why did anet include this in Solo Que ONLY but not in Team Que? this map is just really made for engies

Actually, that’s a common misconception by people who don’t know any of the classes, including their own. The only class that doesn’t have at least 3-4 useful skills/traits/utilities for side points/hammer is elementalist, and even they can somewhat adapt.

Dagger Lightening 5, Staff Lightening 3, Tornado Elite, plenty of ways to access stability and/or block + general stuns. Ele actually has quite a few options, the difference being though is their CD’s are insanely long, whereas an engi can use flamethrower, rifle knockback, turret explosions, reflects, torando, toolkit pull, and they have invis, stability, and block, all through this one single build. So, cool story about every class being able to do this and skyhammer not being aids; please convince us more.

Let’s just agree on what we have known about this game for some time now, the devs have missed the mark on a majority of patches/features and this development cycle/content implementation is generic/a failure.

You not liking something makes it neither generic nor a failure. I won’t agree to it, because that’s simply an opinion. We don’t even know if it’s a majority opinion. A lot of people I talk to really seem to like the new content. Certainly it gets enough upvotes on reddit.

Failure implies something very specific. You can say you don’t like something. You can say it’s not fun (for you). Calling it a failure is simply misusing the language.

Let’s see; twitch views are low, forum post views/comments are the lowest I’ve ever seen, pvp tournaments barely get 200 viewers (used to be 4,000 summer last year, a lot more before that), ArenaNet releases no figures supporting ’active playerbase’ (just sales over the cumulative period since launch - which a vast majority is from the early launch period and these figures hide the actual active player base), servers were ’merged together as a feature’, many implementations have been forgotten about (take for example guild missions), problems with bots (such as nerfing ’fast farmers drop rate’) have yet to been effectively addressed, no new legendaries, pvp queue system remains broken, same pvp game mode since launch, no significant new dungeons/etc. I’d say all that is quite a good support of my comments above. Nonetheless, sorry you don’t agree with the clear opinion I painted that also happens to be significantly backed by the large amount of dip in both viewers, forum viewers, and forum commenters. Sure, some people don’t visit the forum, some don’t view twitch, etc - I still don’t see how a significant decrease in these numbers is not a clear indicator of a depreciating community & in turn a representation of said communities’ dissatisfaction. Cheers. You’ve been a fan-boy since day one, which is fine; I don’t agree with your opinion either.

Bots? I haven’t seen any bots in a long time.

Just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion, they are not a ’Fan Boy’. You have just taken your argument to the FOX News type of argument - which is condescending and generally non-productive.

You’re right, I haven’t seen more than 1 or 2 bots every so often over the past month or two. However, did you know there is an anti-farm mechanic Anet implemented to stop botting? If you kill mobs too quickly, do you notice that suddenly your drop rates decrease significantly? ArenaNet implemented this change to stop botters, but it just hurts hardcore-no-life-farmers. That is what my comment was pointed at, Anet has actually done a good job at catching botters in my opinion, it just sucks that their solution drastically impacts actual players legitly trying to farm mobs (say for example drops of blood).

You obviously must not know who Vayne is, I’ve seen his consistent comments on here for years; he is definitely a fan-boy - nothing wrong with that though, I’ve asked for actual facts (like I provided) to back any opinions here though (crickets). Nonetheless, the actual values I provided to back this is hardly a ’fox-esque’ logic. Those are actual values and a drop in both viewership/community subscribers (reddit) and forum goers is a direct correlation to the state of the game; Or do you think LoL has 50-100k viewers regularly because it is an unpopular game? What about launches of MMO’s that start out with massive viewers and then a drop in viewership? It couldn’t possibly be because the viewers stop being interested and stop playing the game (look at ESO view numbers, averages around 10-20 if you think otherwise). Either way, not saying GW2 is done or even a bad game, I’ve enjoyed my time with it, but in my and many others’ opinion the devs have and continue to repeatedly drop the ball on many of the implementations/improvements that should have simply been included before they even launched the game.

Ah, ArenaNet can have many reasons for keeping the map (lazyness to remove it, perhaps they plan to eventually improve it, maybe they don’t want to give it up because of the level of effort it took to create the map, maybe they think soloQ is not competitive so who cares (just like they look at WvW)). 1) This map is not used in any competitive play, 2) It’s removed from team queue, 3) It’s widely hated by the PvP community (please show me a list of players supporting this game, I’d be quite interested), 4) hammer + knockbacks are highly imbalanced.

Remove this map from soloQ. It is quite frustrating and I literally have never met a single person who supports this map in competitive play (again, please comment here if you do, I’d be quite interested to hear why you like this map ><).

I would also be open to making the FoTM reward track system become repeatable at max cap (lvl 50).

Yep, its the screenshots in his video description, theres 2 of them. [RIOT] lost pretty badly in the wvw vid 2x and the spvp match it was terrible also for them losing 300 - 500. Sadly, they were all nothing but talk and didn’t have any skill to back it up. Then again it was to be expected when fighting against -tM-

Re-read this entire thread; I asked multiple times to just simply pm me and we’ll play. They came back with excuses and it died there. Also; we came across 3 TM + 2 randoms (no clue if they were TM or whoever) with 1 of our tPvP teams and we won the first match, lost the second, and then 2-0’d them easily. I have screenshots on my home computer as well.

Also pretty funny how as soon as they lost they dropped tags/etc to try and hide their guild, lol. Either way none of us even run conquest on any serious level anyways, let alone have participated in tournaments, nor have ever claimed to be great at this mode. We do run a pretty good death match team though.

This whole thing is pretty entertaining nonetheless and Sanny said it best (see his post). This is just a jumbled mess of a thread and story, with a nice circccle jerk on a youtube vid and claims that apparently we ’look down’ on lower tiers (although if you look back at our previous threads we’ve always been excited/intersted any time we’re matched up against other tiers... it’s actually more a zerging mentality that looks down, not the small-man roaming groups - we could care less).

It looks like tM accomplished their mission though, but fell short in generating any outside attention that cares. They got our attention - the actual core RIOT members showed up to discuss (not just some random members they beat, including Israel who hasn’t run with a RIOT group in months not to mention isn’t even in RIOT), and then the topic died. /snore. I would have at least enjoyed some 5v5 deathmatches. Oh well, on to TESO - check out our stream for some fun beta action.

Collaborative Development: Ladders & Seasons

in CDI

Proposal Overview
+ GW2 Ladder & Season Proposed Format
+ Supporting System Changes

Goal of Proposal
+ Competitive system that encourages players to queue and progress towards high rank and rewards; along with the eventual ability to compete in an end of season event. Majority of system benefits are available at easy to obtain ranks (90%), with a small amount of unique/awesome rewards available at high ranks (10%).

Examples of high-end rewards: unique dye that causes a glow effect, unique title/finisher/skin, something on a player’s account interface that shows his/her achievement

Example of normal rewards: skins/titles/gold/etc

Proposal Functionality

How players are ’ranked’:
+ Continue to rank players based on a MMR-point system within each 20-man ladder league. Implement actual slow-decay system (remove false decay) and improve (reduce) overall volatility of MMR.

Ladder Rankings:
+ Start with base MMR, play 5 matches to determine ladder group. Hardcap ’high-end’ ladder group placed with [1/2 x highest rank].

+ Ladder Groups consist of 20 individuals all ranked from highest to lowest based on ’group-points’. Similar to how LoL allows you to rank up or down (i.e. sit at top long enough, win placement matches, move up; fall to the bottom long enough, lose matches, pushed to lower league). Likewise, hard-cap bottom end of "Quaggan" leagues (i.e. a player can only lose X amount of MMR before he can no longer lose MMR or an insigificant portion).

+ Ladder Leagues (High to Low):
- Dragon (challenger league)
- Ascended
- Black Lion
- Mystic
- Quaggan

Ladder Types:
+ Solo/Duo Queue (combine Solo & Duo together)
+ Team Queue (Solo can still queue in, same functionality as before)

Season Length:
+ 3 1/2 months
+ 1 week for ’season warm-up’
+ 1 week for ’season conclusion’
+ 4 months TOTAL

Season Completion:
+ 2-week ’Dragon League’ tournament.
+ Those that qualify with Dragon League placement have the ability to compete in a massive tournament (ideally most matches would be broadcast/hosted by Anet).
+ Winner is placed onto headstone; announced on Anet website & GW2 launcher and VoD of final match made available. Top 10 teams receive gems (or cash!), with the most gems going to winners.

:::::::::::::::::::::

Changes outside of ’Ladders & Seasons’ that MUST occur to support this system:

+ Remove the ability to swap characters in a match (huge revamp on the system end, but required for a true competitive match)

+ Develop U.I. Queue/Load-In Screen. For example; think LoL loading screen (it shows you all ’champs selected’, their ’abilities’, also provides some tips/etc). I think this just adds more to the ’a match is starting’ type of feel.

+ Develop more game modes

+ Implement queue’ing as a ’registered team’ (i.e. Team Rank leaderboard truly reflect ’your team’ not you as an individual and how you fair in ’team rank’).

+ Implement an actual ready check on match making that re-queues the group if someone does not confirm!

+ Implement a better broadcast system that does not require active ’authorized’ broadcasters to get into.

+ Add more announcements to the Guild Wars 2 launcher that features the latest in PvP and either VoD’s of matches or Delayed ’Live matches’ for viewers to check out.

:::::::::::::::::::::

Associated Risks
This would be all positive for the community, but overall the risks here would simply be ArenaNet Development Time (i.e. cost) vs Effective Output & Community Impact (i.e. benefit). With ArenaNet’s development time, this system might also take 2-3 years to develop.

You’re forgetting that this game is about to be launched in China; which is obviously one of the largest populations in the world - EotM was a necessary solution for them.
