Sounds interesting and as always the Art Team did a fantastic job imo. The few concerns i have :

- Too many PvE Mobs. I understand that creatures make a world look alive and while i find the mechanics interesting from a pve perspective i think for an open pvp map it is a little too much

- Map joining. Please find a way to bring in people together, Squads, guilds etc. This would be absolutely awesome and make this map a real alternative to people who not want to play the ppt game.

- Classic WvW. I really have the concern that this map will compete with classic wvw and there might be the danger that it will hurt population on the normal maps.

Can´t wait until that get´s released, it´s a step in the right direction to fight queues imo.

Thanks for this really interesting post and the links, i enjoyed the presentation of cameron. I really hope that the fixes you will introduce can ease the situation we are facing in wvw. To be honest the workaround or temporary things you spoke about did something noticable. In the last few days i encountered a lot of less skill lag than before. Can´t wait until the permanent fix comes, thanks again.

On a Scale to 10 where 10 is the worst we had skill lag at beginning of the season between 9-10, yesterday it seemed better overall on a 6-7 but it is far away from fixed, my impression was that a lot of the people just finished their achievements. In the ruins i did not see the ping pong capping between servers going on anymore.

Performance is something that is being worked on for the entirety of the game. We are aware of the issues and are in the process of addressing them as rapidly as we can. Wow, that´s your answer after letting people wait for 6 days in Lag Hell? Are you serious ? Nothing but vague statements, that´s really embarrassing.

Are you even aware of the issue we have right now. We had days where People could barely play for hours besides spamming auto attack. We need something to be done now and not sometimes in the misty future.

The skill lag in WvW is not Anet’s fault. It is a core latency problem in distributed system and latency between network nodes and the client/server side.

Be glad that there is a game that allows 300 people on one map from 2-3 different continents all a the same time. Even a normal multiplayer game with 16 players on the map has lag on a 100Mbits network and dedicated servers.

So try to enjoy the game because the skill lag on a full queued map is not going to be fixed and it out of any software developer hands.

The skill lag is Arenanets fault, there are already red posts confirming this. It is caused by CPU issues of the servers and bandwidth issues between the server and the client.

Since the leagues started the lag situation got worse on every server. Arenanet has been told that long time ago that this would happen but as usual they only hear themselves. WvW is unplayable at the moment, gj Anet.

I don´t believe that something like the OP suggested will work. Besides balancing pvp has one major problem and that is population. So you have to attract more people into pvp and i honestly do not believe that changes that would be so complicated that only 10% of the spvp players understand are helpful in that way. Some time before release they said that pvp should be easy to learn and hard to master, maybe they should start trying this. Pvp must remain accessible, a game mode only for the upper 10% is meaningless and boring.

What you see these days is people grinding World Bosses, Chests and Temples for the Ascendend materials. As a wvw player it´s even worse. The materials just drop of the Lords, Supervizors and the only thing that counts is damage to get loot. If you help in any other way to capture the object is irrelevant. Also killing other players is irrelevant because WvW is a kitten siege game. So if you want that materials in a reasonable timeframe you are forced to do endless temple events etc. This is grind in it´s best form and it is definetely not fun.

This may not be their fault guys.

Skill lag is Arenanets fault. There are already official posts about it, it is caused by CPU issues of the servers. This will never get fixed because that would require one of two things, either they need to rework or optimize their code so that routines are less computationally intensive or they need to compensate with hardware. The first will require ressources which they don´t have, the second will require money what NCSoft will never grant them, so forget about that.

People keep posting this as if it is gospel. Why?
Why is WvW supposed to be unbalanced’?

It´s unbalanced in terms of numbers each side can bring, level the players have and obviously the gear they have. Anet decided to unbalance it even more with this bloodlust garbage even a few months ago a post from Habib stated that they removed orbs because the buff made the already strong even stronger. So you can see how contradictory their statements are. Devon Carver is hiding and so the community is venting on the forums. I dont remember when he posted on that forum last time, really a shame for somebody in charge with the wvw community. But on the other hand the wvw comm is ignored in the same way the spvp comm is. Look how many Teams and people left because Anet is not able or willing to listen. Class Balance is a mess in this game.

Yeah, and ECL disbanded on SFR, KoA as well, and I`m certain there are other guilds who disbanded in the past and will in the future.

What`s the point, no correlation to the patch, and even if in FIRE`s case: a passionate wvw guild that considers itself a strong asset to wvw with a very minor focus on GvG (as you GvG guilds claim to have) wouldn`t just disband because of such a tiny impact of 5%-10% max of their playing time, right…right?

Why would they, I mean there`s still a lot to do in wvw besides GvG, at least that`s what you are trying to sell here in the forum in countless threads and posts.

What´s the point in that statement ? ECL, KoA, RG and many more disbanded for their own personal reasons, that does not speak for the GvG community in general and may or may not have anything to do with it. What do you consider a GvG Guild ? How much GvG´s they have to do ? once a week, twice a week, once a month ? I really don´t get your hostility towards those guilds. WvW is big and there is a place for everybody be it small or large scale.

I like seeing an Anet rep stating his real opinion rather than the usual canned garbage. I would honest respect Anet less if the guy is punished.

Just because you have a personal problem with gvg in general does not mean that an Anet Employee is allowed to behave in such a way. Watch the Video, he was asked to leave and also the opposing guild tried friendly to make him leave ( they did not kill him). After that it got unfriendly. So he had many opportunities to leave before that. He chose to troll and when you do that you have to handle the response.

Why should he be fired? He didn’t violate any game rules. He simply didn’t do as he was ordered, which isn’t against the rules.

He should be fired because he abused his official Arenanet Tag. If he doesn´t like GvG no problem, if he had chosen to act like a kitten as a simple player, ok, the guild here treated him like he deserved it. But by switching on his Arenanet Tag he made it official and he spoke in some way in Arenanets name which was extremely unclever. He wanted to show “Hey i´am an official and you can not tell me anything”. If he had chosen to let his Anet Tag off, he would have spared his employer a lot of drama. And only this is enough imo to correct him accordingly.

Yeahh, but the most shocking thing is that i am not surprised at all about that behavior from the staff. They want to ruin GvG and the scene since months because they are scared that this would ruin their SPvP and E-Sports efforts when GvG Streams had more viewers than kittening tournaments.

Really interesting how you seem to think how stupid we are. What you posted will not happen. Why ? Look at the state of WvW (performance, skill lag etc) and how much “Resources” you put in there. Second i doubt NCsoft is interested in stream viewers or how much people play pvp to grant you more money aka Resources.

Well there are official posts where they are saying that the skill lag is a cpu issue on the server side. But this whole mess with the Blood Lust buff causing such lags on top of the already bad situation is another proof that they are not testing anything in terms of performance impacts.

The Problem is that Arenanet does not understand their own players. For them wvw should be a casual zergfest. They simply ignore everything that´s around organized combat. Their idea of wvw is a lot of people running brain afk after a guy with a blue sign above his head running from siege to siege. In general yes, a buff for playing WvW successfully would be nice, but in it´s current state i say no because a stat increase is obviously the dumbest thing they could do. There are so much buffs available that wouldn´t be harmful, like gold, karma, wxp etc.

Yes you are right, the SPvP community is even more screwed than we are. The scene was never really big and people / teams started leaving already. But of course, we do not know the technical problems they have. On the other side , in one year the only technical improvement made was the removement of culling, that´s it. Sorry that´s not enough. I don´t say that everything has to be done in 1 day but as they don´t really speak to the community beside´s the usual “soon, very soon, around the corner” phrases i have the impression that they simply don´t put strong efforts in fixing the issues.

Well i know you keep saying this over and over, but can you tell me why is it that PvE wise we can actually see a lot of development efforts and regarding wvw we see very little ? On the panel Anet was stating that for you the playerbase and what the playerbase wants is important, that you want to “listen” to the playerbase.

Now ask yourself a question. Are you as a company really doing that ? How in the world with all the performance problem´s wvw has in it´s current state can you implement a league system ? Is making favor of lag competition for you ? Has the playerbase asked for such a system ? Why aren´t you focusing on solving the technical problems for providing a solid fundament for upcoming content changes and actively promoting such fixes to the community?

After watching the Pax Stream yesterday i have no hope that anything will be done in a reasonable amount of time. Devon made his announcement and for the rest of the panel he just sat there. Not a single kitten question came from the audience regarding wvw and only one question about spvp. Almost all questions where about living world / rp / lore, so that does say anything about the interest of the people and therefore the focus of the development of this game.

Perceived lack of resources devoted to WvW should be balanced against reasonable expectations of what can be achieved by any resources.

Compared to what you achieved PvE wise there is clearly a lack. In ~1 year of GW2 the only major improvement was the remove of culling. Placing Laurel NPC´s in Borderlands or the infamous WvW trait lines are i´m sorry just fillers compared to the Living World PvE stuff with the story telling, beautiful art etc. etc. So really Devon, the story that WvW is getting the same attention as PvE has gotten old and if you read carefully most people don´t believe that anymore.

This comedy show called balancing show´s clearly that Anet does not have the slightest idea what to do with the Necromancer. Instead of giving us a tool to reset a fight, they gave us burning. Maybe somebody should tell them that a dead Necro doesn´t deal damage…. They are not testing changes at all, the live servers are their test environment. But the worst thing at all is regarding their mantra they have repeated over and over in the sotg´s “No knee jerk ractions regarding balancing” and now they say that the last nerfs were made with PAX in mind. I´m sorry Anet but you are doing a lousy lousy job at the moment.

Well,

you could think of reducing 10 Points in Spite and investing them in Death Magic to get Staff Mastery imo cooldown reduction is more useful.

Also you do not have any condition removal which can be a problem in WvW. So you could swap your heal to Consume Conditions which i would strongly recommend. You could also swap your food to Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup for the -40% condition duration but then you will loose of course the +40% from the Rare Veggie Pizza. Or you could swap Spiteful Spirit to Spiteful Removal.

Also your crit chance is very low for a power build, so i would experiment and change a few trinkets and maybe using Master Maintenance Oil until your crit chance is around 30% to get higher damage output.

Blobbing and the use of arrow carts strangely seems to be only a problem of the enemy servers. Of course the home server never does that and is of course far superior in every way. I really wonder whether we can stop only for one day the useless screen shot war´s and stop seeing things through rose coloured glasses. And to that “I thought guild [exchangeable name] runs alone but …….” nonsense, it´s open PvP and even if you try to run alone most of the time you will run into friendly pug´s on occasion and the higher the population is, the more likely it is. Also sometimes you are called to help somebody out, to believe letting somebody down asking you for help is a bit naive.

I don´t like duels at all on the maps because they make everything so complicated. If i see 2 Players fighting somewhere on the map should i help ? is it a duel or not ? should i let my ally die ? To be honest in open pvp i do not want to bother with such decisions, so to keep it simple, “If it´s red it´s dead” .

Yes it was funny last night, it seemed that everybody you and we did not have the luck to meet each other alone but that things happen in Open PvP. Shoutout to the Gandarrans, you had some polite people on the map. Bowing when outnumbering the enemy is not very common and a nice gesture of sportsmanship, so thanks for that.

For the Rest of the evening i can only say thank you Arenanet for the bug with siege equipment, unfortunately it seems to be fixed in todays mini patch but forcing people to play a bit more offensive was a good thing on either side

Well now it´s more like this scenario. We are knocking at your door. The people in the keep start thinking "Ohh i am so scared we outnumber everybody only two times, let´s wait a little bit longer until we are three times more and of course let´s build some more arrow carts just to be sure.

But i am sorry i forgot that you are not interested in pvp. I have the perfect map for you where you can do your stuff all day long without bore the hell out of everybody. It´s called Malchor´s Leap, there you can find ton´s of enemies with the same state of mind.

Well if that is your play style, then have it that way. I read a lot about flexibility here and i have to say that even if you are playing for points you are not very successful with your strategy, so maybe you should give it a try and stop sitting in keeps only leaving when outnumbering the enemy. This could earn you points and respect which to be honest you guys both need.

Terrible evening yesterday on Gandara BL, no groups roaming, only gigantic megazergs from AM and Gandara. Skill Lag was horrible, sometimes we could not press anything. Enemies sitting in keeps and only getting brave when they are outnumbering everyone in great masses, but then they try to chase somebody over the whole map.

Funniest Moment yesterday when we were with 15 players in a tower with paper doors, outside the pve train of AM, at least around ~50. Even in that masses they seemed to be to scared to open the doors with rams and used catapults.

Yesterday was one of the evenings where it was clearly shown how Arenanet rewards cowardness in a pvp game. And the worst thing of all, it was no exception just normal reset day madness.
