Don’t play PvP. It’s not the worst of any MMO I’ve played, but it is getting to that point.
You must not get around. I can name ten with worse pvp. Gw2 is up there. Even games whos pvp I enjoyed more (rift) are objectively less balanced.
Theres no real way to fix it. Having a druid and a herald means that ele can perma dish out toughness. You cluld double the current boonstripping and you still wouldnt be able to get to it.
so I’m trying to force my warrior into existance. They have to use a longbow and they have to also be good at fractals and wvw.
Right now i’m doing settlers with longbow + sword/horn for some mobility. I’m thinking I maybe just drop the settlers for sinister.
Scrapper complaining about not being able to solo bunker druids, comedy gold.
Also their potential healing and ally condi clear is worse than scrapper and ele.
(edited by duster.7013)
Boon stripping should always strip Resistance first. After that it can be random for all I care.
Heres how to mlg balance game.
buff the boonstripping of mes, but make it focus might and stuff.
Tone down necro boonstripping, but make it prioritize resistance and toughness.
Theres needs to be edits to boonstripping. Some boonstripping spells should prioritize worthless boon liks might, others should prioritize stuff like toughness.
If it’s rng now that’s insanely imbalanced.
Why? Wars are worse at damage than necros by far. Necros can nullify weak condiclear at a ranged aoe while dropping huge dmg. Wars are cqc physical damage if your enemy can’t get rid of cc, which they can.
(edited by duster.7013)
Well you’re completely wrong. Condi war wasn’t used a single time in the entire tournament save prelims and they lost hard there and there were eles/necros every match. If you dodge their skill basher then they are deadweight as condi, yes even bow builds.
Guards AT LEAST won a lot in prelims and theif was at least used in the actual tournament. Warrior was destroyed in prelims and dropped.
Everybody used to think eles were, but with two being used in the finals of the tournament that’s probably not true. Not to mention ele is easier to play and more effective than war. I have around a third as many ele games as warrior games and my stats are always better on ele. Anybody getting “stunlocked” by war is a noob that doesn’t know how to play against them. The absolute only thing they have is their hard to boonstrip invulns, but meta duels AND meta teamfights last longer than that.
Defence is skilless dps rushing.
Offence is skilless bunkering
Eh they are cancer in spvp
I left last month (I played around 6 hours a day), left due to the sorry mess that PVP is in an truely thinking vanilla gw2 pvp was better. The devs remove amulets because one build is overpowered, then forget that theres other builds using the amulet that is completely screwed.
I was a 4 year player of this franchise with over 14k hours logged, I also tend to think that PVP is what keeps a majority of the players playing untill the next patch, and when doing it on GW2, im not having fun anymore.
Anet, please do something about your horrible balance, be it introducing a “Core Only” game-mode, or proper balance. Powercreep like this is not fun for anyone.
Why do people say this? Back then I had an 80% winrate on elementalist and I didn’t even know how to play them, I just rolled my face on the keyboard. And ranger was 100% worthless.
Also look up the diffusion theory of anthropology to understand how human standards work. In order for you to leave, there must be actually better pvp or you must lose interest in pvp mmos.
lol it certainly doesn’t mean somebody is good or worth focusing. Don’t overthink unranked stratsn for when you don’t have forced cosmetics on.
But you do have to stick around. When you join a game, you’re joining for the full game, not for just when you feel like playing. Trolls are the ones who gave up or go afk without the entire team agreeing. Unless everybody agrees to forfeit, everybody is supposed to keep playing normaly.
No I showed up for a game, not what I sometimes get in unranked.
scrapper is the strongest overall character and they are good at 1v1. They weren’t opted for in the final tourny, though it was bo1 and not really good sets.
There is nothing warrior can do against engi, even if they mess up.
(edited by duster.7013)
it can be got 5th season
Engineer and guardian are both pretty kitten easy to ladder with. Longbow druid is easilly the most scrubby build in the game.
I’m not sure why people say warrior is easier than other classes. Try to ladder using a condi mace warrior and then do a guardian/engineer and tell me which is easier. If you want to play engineer and not die in a game you can go the entire game without dying once.
Gw2 open world is insanely boring. I think allowing open world pvp with some exclusive titles and rewards would honestly be the only thing that would interest me in doing it.
Im a little dissapointed with the lack of terrain. Ots really simple.
@k.then
So you want a simpler game?
Been cramming in necro matches, will miss it.
@stiofan if you have a team supporting you. Otherwise playing necro sucks.
I never minded courtyard that much. Its not like unranked matches were going to be super conpetetive on another map.
Abjured probably lost because they likely didn’t prepare well enough. Since EU is more competitive, their teams can practice against real competition, leading to a higher standard of play.
Btw every competitive team uses voice. What they mean is that they don’t spam their voice channel. They won’t say things like “I totally dodged that skill!” They keep their chat to only relevant info.
^^^^^ at least someone here has a brain.
Minimal voice comms still hurt a lot. Against nos’s last death on temple of the silent storm lost them the match and was completely avoidable, the theif was nearbye to help.
They expressed that they dont do much voice comms. I think you absolutly need them when running theif and necro. The last nos death on silent storm was caused by the thief not knowing he could help imo.
If not that, drop the thief, put wakkey back on guard and just hold two nodes. I dont feel like the mes is the entire meta.
Using cele rifle in the current meta is a sign that you are in fact, not good at pvp, because cele rifle is not even possible atm. Not only that, but if you are using rifle you are supposed to either be a flamethrower or grenade build with marauder or demolisher, rofl.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Engineer
You shouldn’t be playing rifle engineer unless you have a ton of knowledge on how to play engineer since you have to work extra hard to make rifle engineer useful over power hammer.
That being said unranked players are absolutely horrible, so unless you are playing to carry them then you won’t fix your win rate. The people beating you probably aren’t good, they are likely spamming easy classes like trapper DH. Always take elixir s so that you can use the invis to juke out enemies. Even on the meta power hammer build, swap out the condi clear drone for elixer s. Elixer s should be used on every single soloq engi build ever because it allows you to be immortal if you know how to juke. The invuln is worthless, but the invis that it gives as a secondary is extremely strong. In fact you should challenge yourself to never die as engi in some matches while solo capping the enemy far point and running away when you get lit.
Also get some practice in on 1v1 servers with engi. Engi is not the best 1v1 build in the game, but you should know how to bunk every enemy class on point for a bit before juking away from the point.

Bringing real world logic into a video game is always genius. It just how the game works. Stealth is over-powered so A-net allows it is probably the reason. Its a counter to stealth.
“stealth is overpowered” T. druid player talking about balance. At least real world logic is logic. Longbow druid is already the most crutched build in the game, it definitely is not an intentional balance decision to make the class better.
Honestly just reduce the cooldown on elementalist utility skills, then do tradeoff balance from there. If you do massive swings of damage to try and mend an entire seasons salt, you’re going to mess up the next season.
And ideal balance means that the more skillful person wins, not that balance is circular.
(edited by duster.7013)
Signit chillomancer is the best pvp build atm.
spite tree for signit buffs, plague/vamp/movement/ signit all convert enemy boons into conditions
soulreapping tree because it’s one of the strongest necro trees
reaper tree for disgusting condi dmg.
Carrion amulet (necro always does hybrid dmg), staff + sceper warhorn (use staff + unblockable trait to dps guardians when they start their temper tantrum or to start fights vs anybody else, use scepter/warhorne for condi pressure and to disrupt stomps)
Necro is bad in soloq, but you can still squeeze out wins. Make sure you only do build testing in unranked. If you get lots of wins in unranked you will be matched with morons when you play ranked.

They are fixing the system enough next season. An mmr system like dota and cs is actually more of a grind than gw2’s system.
For how it compares to blink or thief blink, lightning step is absolute trash. It either needs both a large damage/range buff or a cooldown reduction.
Why do players not lose target with channeled skills such as rapid fire when their target goes into stealth? .
Why do you assume that people should lose target when enemy goes into stealth mode?
Gee, I don’t know. I guess rangers are just gods that can hit a target 10 times without seeing them. It’s also a thing in dota 2.
It’s also bad because longbow druid is the scrubbiest build in the game, even scrubbier than DH.
This is something we’ve been monitoring for a while. We’re looking at a couple of different options here, but we do need to be careful making changes to something that is so integral to PvP gameplay (and as a note, we’d be making changes to PvP only).
Below are some suggestions I’ve seen on this forum over the past few months. We wouldn’t do all of them of course, but I figured I’d throw them out and see how you folks feel about them.
- Implement 1-to-1 rally policy, similar to WvW. This means that only 1 player would rally per enemy killed, rather than up to 5. Would likely be the downed ally closest to the enemy player.
- Cap the range at which someone can rally.
- Bring back PvE-downstate policy
- Shorten revive/downed “invuln” buff.
- Reduce healing per tick when rezzing.
- Further reduce downstate HP
- Adjust outlier revive skills (Function Gyro)
Of these just do the single rally and reduce the downstate initial hp IMO.
It’s a bit late for that.
I anticipate over 10 moas on noscoc every match. Wakey always goes far or home so they using gyro/s&r for res and those are kinda punishable.
Thief and necro are the two optional classes that made it into the top EU positions during the qualifiers IIRC.
rev, dh, engi, druid are the required classes, then you have an optional class that can be anything except elementalist.
Technically only elementalist is trash this season, meaning the other 8 classes are balanced. Signit chillomancer is still kittened if you have a team supporting you, which only happens in stacks. It’s just another bunker + rotation speed meta.

I think mechanics themselves are fine. Problems lie in too much AoE everything, too short cast times, too passive traits etc. Basically the game needs a nerf in all skills and traits as it is too much reward for little risk for everyone now.
That’s not particularly true with skills like glyph of equality that can punish spam.
Although dota is a much better game than league at mostly everything, league does have a higher tactical skill ceiling due to its skillshots.
My engi gets 350k dmg average and 100k teammate healing and a lot of ally condis removed. That’s just with a little practice and noob allies.
My druid can heal for more, sometimes up to 300k, but outside of that i’m useless. I rarely go over 150k dmg, and my condi clear on allies isn’t amazing. my actual bunking is okay, but I can’t really kill enemies like warriors that I think I should be. What am I doing wrong?
People still use plague signet?
its probably the best stunbreaker in the game, seeing as it can dump 15 condis onto somebody that were intended for your allies.
Don’t leave for a large portion of a match and then try to not get leaver status. You lost your team the game.
Granted swapping characters isn’t optimized and I don’t know why I load in tyria and then load in the mists and then load the map.
I find them overall to be the easiest class to kill, even with non-HoT builds.
Maybe if you have good pressure and boon removal. Against a war they can just dodge the headbutt and primal bursts.
Any non druid ranger is the worst class. Tempest is the worst otherwise, it is basically a bad engi/druid.
As for soloq, necro is usually the second worst but can still scrap out a 50% winrate. Warrior is painful to play in soloq as well.
If u can’t hit a thief together with another teammate in game where pulsing and channeld attacks are a thing combined with AOE. Then u are not average.
P sure those will both heal the thief.
Kyhlo without trebs is the best map IMO. Only interesting one to juke on.
It’s been required on 100% of viable necro builds for years. It’s time to change things up. Maybe spread the love around on boon removal to other builds or to other necro skills.
I understand that but in this condi meta how many warriors takes Rousing Resilience instead of Cleansing Ire? I can see this when facing an enemy power comp but most of the time its at least half condi classes against you.
And when you say ICD, do you mean more than 10s since Outrage has a 10s CD?
This. If your enemy isn’t packing a ton of stuns (they rarely are), then you only have your self stun to get it from, then if your self stun doesn’t land then you get nothing. Meanwhile cleansing ire can remove up to 3 condis every 3 seconds.
Yes I am using it within 60 seconds. It still makes a portal that I can’t use. It just happened to me three times in a row.
I’ve done a bunch of really big mistakes, like trusting completely random people with important equipment and attempting entire missions with just me + other generals and no soldiers. But my recent mistake takes the cake.
A large portion of my army has defected and is exposed to more defection. I authorize a guy to continue serving with a platoon of other tree people as long as he executes his comrades that attempt to defect. Not only is that needlessly pyrrhic, but they could cause dramatic damage to the mission. Trusting them in the vanguard or the rear can prove detrimental if they are easilly overrun, and for all you know they could all be sleepers just pretending to be semi sentient. But my character doesn’t want to be a tree racist, so I let them continue serving.
Rationally i’d detain them all until you can either get radio wave blockers on them or genocide them, since letting even a few divisions of them go can ravage your supply lines/massacre towns if things go wrong. Considering the vigil and lions arch have access to a ton of natural resources and trade routes with their recent conquest, losing a handful of divisions won’t be a death sentence to the movement.
Oh no my “I win” button has a counter if I don’t happen to be dodge rolling or aegised or invulnerable when it lands
I feel it really depends on healing/cc removal. I personally run the demolisher amulet over marauder on engi since they have good base hp and lots of healing. Guardian on the other hand has like 11k base hp and if you marauder is the most damaging thing you can run without getting one shot.
You can also run cavelier/valkyrie on some necro builds, but there’s no point in doing that in solo q
