First off please do not read further if you haven’t done this story step as it has spoilers.
I’ve been trying to do the last story step, and the portal bugs almost everytime that I do it. I’ve attached a screenshot that shows how it is off the area where there is land. Gliding to it shows that there is no land underneath it either since I just fall right through.
I’m not sure, but I think this has something to do with using the retry mote. I’ve only faced bugs after using it. Sometimes Mordremoth will “skip” around in his attack phases (such as when he does his massive attack he throws rocks on the first time (after getting Marjory) as opposed to waiting until after I have gotten Sieran.
If it helps at all I chose Braham and Canach. And my mentor was Sirean.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Same happened to me. Bought two of them and they reset. I hope I don’t have to buy them again :-/
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Just had this happen to me last night. I eventually caved and just bought new rings, then attuned them, then infused them. It was a costly endeavor over a bug (especially since I extracted first from the old rings)….
Hope it does get fixed, since I don’t want to repeat this process for every character that I have. :-(

I’ll admit I’ve been a guard main for 3 years now. In my opinion there are two things that could be changed about DH to tone it down in PvP without destroying it.
1) Get rid of trapper runes. These runes never should have been added to PvP, and are a big source of the problem with this build. Taking these away doesn’t kill DH, but makes this build a lot less scary.
2) Take off the 1 second daze on adept trait. This is another big complaint people have. And in PvP I get it. CC is hard to deal with, and getting hit by CC en masse is no fun. Taking that away and giving a guard +25% movement speed instead would make both sides extremely happy.
3) (Optional) Make test of faith have a 1/4 second cast time. Instead of it being insta-cast, make it have a short cast time which gives players a tad bit of time to react. When a trap can be insta cast while channeling True Shot, or using WW it is not exactly fair.
The main thing is don’t just take the typical nerf approach and destroy dmg and cds of abilities. That’s how you destroy a build. Just take the things that make it really hard to deal with and shave those off. Plus adding the +25% movement as compensation would make every guard think the nerf is a buff.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Having the same problem. I think I have like 6 unlocked, but only showing two in the collection. Not sure why. The new one that I got since HoT (longbow) showed up, but all of my old ones besides mace don’t show.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I had this same problem just last night on my main. I used an infusion extractor on my red ring of death and my crystalline band (both infused) and then tried to attune them via the forge. Neither one would show up in the mystic forge panel. I tried everything I could think of, but I figured they were bugged and there was nothing I could do about it. I’m guessing this bug is low-ish priority, so I just went ahead and bought two new rings, attuned them, and then infused them. It was costly, but I don’t want to be held out of high level fractals on account of a bug.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Still no reward for me after the “patch” for map completion.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I’m having the same problem. I think it is related to it adding them to the collection only if you have the original weapon drop. My mace was added (which I’m using on my guardian), but the torch, pistol, and focus were not added. They are unlocked in my wardrobe, however.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I actually really like Stronghold as a gametype as well. Sure PvP could use some more additions, but this map is more fun to play than conquest imo.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Have you tried Dagger Storm? A long duration missile reflect could let you close the distance in complete safety.
this would work great if Dragonhunters did not have an unblockable ranged pull on F1
2 things:
1) The initial land isn’t unblockable. If you allow them to land it, you have to proc stabil in order to avoid it.
2) Dagger storm gives you stability, so I don’t see the problem…
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
It won’t take long. Guard had the same thing happen around launch. People cried it was OP before even trying to learn about it. Anet nerfed it, and it stayed in a boring state up until the July balance patch. It got better then, got better with HoT, and it will get nerfed very soon into an subpar boring class again.
First nerf to traps made sense. If they nerf it again people will just ditch them all together, and we will have another set of skills join spirit weapons as never taken utilities.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Well they just got buffed. :-)
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Clearly we needed another thread on this topic OP.
And you are complaining about 1v1 nature of the build. In case you haven’t noticed there aren’t any official duel servers for a reason; balance isn’t done around 1v1.
Also DODGE, DODGE, DODGE. It only takes one to evade all of the traps. They are static, they don’t move. Dodge into the guardian, simple. There are videos out there showing you how to do this and that it isn’t difficult.
Stop complaining with multiple threads.

Honestly I’m worried they are going to completely neuter this elite spec simply because everyone is crying wolf in PvP.
As background I play PvE and PvP pretty heavily. I enjoy my guard in both. What’s happening now is exactly what lead guard to “be in a good spot” for the last 3 years. We were really good at launch, and everyone complained and we got nerfed into the “nice to bring but never great” class.
I don’t understand why if they refuse to balance PvP and PvE separately they won’t take both into consideration when they nerf. Right now DH is good in PvE, but if they nerf traps a second time it will be back to its BWE 1+2 uselessness. In PvP it is strong WHEN you combine it with trapper runes, and the fact that people haven’t learned how to counterplay it yet (notice not saying there isn’t counterplay, just that people aren’t used to it).
I really wish they would just take trapper runes out of PvP and call it a day. Nerfing traps again will just destroy the elite spec. LB is nice, but the tells on it are super obvious, and the rooting all over the place makes it very inflexible. So if that’s all we have to gain from the DH spec after they nerf traps again, there really isn’t a point in bringing it.
Also for those who keep asking how to counter: DODGE. Here’s a video showing you just how possible it is to dodge the entire burst of traps.

There would be a lot less DH tears if Trapper Runes were not in sPvP. Invisible super speed dazing instant killing action just by facerolling trap skills.
I would go as far as saying that DH is probably balanced without trapper runes.
I would have absolutely no problem with them taking trapper runes out of pvp either…
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
If it was landing hits DH wins again. Thief has to get and stay in melee (unless pistols, but then sustained dps ends in 2-3 seconds and then drops drastically).
Unfortunately there is absolutely no way to quantify with hard facts which class can “land hits better”. So we can speculate that because of this or that DH dps is better, but it is just that, speculation. The pure numbers for dps say thief has higher potential.
(Not saying you are wrong, just saying there is no way to know).
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
……because dps test on static target in pve is totally relevant for pvp…. wow, just wow.
Well when you are debating which class has higher dps …. yes. Landing the hits isn’t what dps stats are about. DPS means the POTENTIAL dmg that you can output. The skill is where the rest comes in.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
@Azure the Heartless – DnT tests all of the dps whenever balance changes happen in game and then publish the results on their site.
Guard:
http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/page/1/m/6563292/viewthread/12501056-dnt-guardian-build-102615
Thief:
http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/24767535-dnt-thief-build-for-dungeons-fractals-102815/post/last#last
The builds they use are optimum dps in PvE so the numbers are higher (sigils like night and day exist in pve only, and the dmg potential in pvp is lower) since those changes are universal across both classes, however, you can use these numbers to extrapolate dmg ratios in pvp. So yes Thief is higher still than DH (as are a few other classes).
@BlackBunny
Not surprisingly, you have now changed your argument. Now instead of saying DH DPS is higher than thief, you are now saying “Well thief can be 1 shot”. I think your evasion on sticking to an argument might be telling, no? The point is a full zerk guard is also glass. They just use slightly higher toughness and blocks to stay alive. Thieves use shadowsteps, increased dodges, stealth and blinds. Different mechanic same result.
And your screenshot made me laugh. Your bar shows you clearly do not play DH. Purification (any guard not running shelter can’t say they play it in pvp)? Just test of faith and not procession of blades? Dragon Maw post nerf instead of RF? I rest my case.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Am I wrong though? Yes a bunch of new abilities were added to the game, but games need this from time to time or they become stale and boring. Anet is going to be trying hard to balance PvP for the Pro Leagues and tournaments coming up. They said more balance patches and more often. Now is the time to offer constructive feedback, actual numbers, and real information. If all you do is come to the forums to complain about how the new abilities/specs added to the game broke it, then what will that fix?
Yes you are wrong. You are totally ignoring the fact they made this avoidable mess in the first place. This isn’t about having new skills and mechanics in the game, this is about not testing anything before putting it in the game. Exacerbating current game play issues and then creating more problems. Then leaving it like this to fester for weeks until they can retroactively sort it out.
You say to offer constructive feedback, but really are people who think adding copious additional amounts of damage, stacking, evades, teleports, superspeed, quickness, invulns, blocks, low skill threshold gameplay, and new runes/amulets all in the pot at the same time (hoping somehow it will magically balance out) really listening. I could write a 3 essay on what is currently wrong, but should I really have to.
Anyone with common sense knows if you add all these things at once untested it will break what is left of balance. BTW I never said I was quitting the game, I said I was considering dropping PvP, so please read before making a fanciful story up.
Not testing any of the skills in game… It’s almost like you don’t know about these beta weekend events.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Partially agree…for now I’m just doing hot joins so I can get dailies and then head back to pve. Awaiting patiently for more balance patches.
I wouldn’t say there was no work or effort…a lot of work was done, and mostly elite specs need marginal nerfs/buffs to begin with (as these might not be enough).
DH:
->DH traps need increased cast time (1 second).
Scrapper:
->Hammer 3 needs to be reduced to 1 impact, reduce evade to 1/2 second
Revenant:
-> Reduce evade on unrelenting assault to 1/2 second
Warriors:
-> Slow adrenaline degeneration out of combat
-> Increase stances duration by two seconds
-> Evade on GS rush 3/4 second-Tempest Elementalists:
->Make Harmonious conduit baseline
->Harmonious Conduit replacement trait: pulse blindness on overload (1 second interval)Thief:
->Shadow refuge: Add protection on activation and pulse blindness on shadow refuge (1 second pulse) increase healing to 3000.
->Pistol skill headshot: add knockdown duration 1 secondChronomancer:
->Increase cast time of Tides of time to 3/4
->Gravity well reduce knockdown duration to 1/2 secondThis should be a nice starting point
Well it’s painfully obvious which classes you play.
As I’ve seen in someone’s sig here: “Nerf Rock, paper seems fine. – Scissors”
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Go log on a D/P Thief and try to 1v1 a Dragon Hunter.
You do realize that guardian has always been the class that has been a “hard counter” to thieves right? This is nothing new. Thieves have always had trouble with guards (access to blocks, retal, sustain, burning hurts, etc). Anet has already said that there are classes that are supposed to be foils to others, necro condi hurts engi, engi cc hurts mesmer/necro, thief kills mesmer and ele.
Saying that just one class (your class) has difficulty with another doesn’t mean it is OP. If every class had difficulty beating one class, then it is more likely it is OP. Most of the complaints I see about DH are coming from thieves. Not really surprising…
Especially since you are pointing out that one thief playstyle doesn’t beat DH. News flash, not every build can be easy for a D/P thief to beat. Try adapting…
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
“I play DH they are not OP”
Dude… you are playing the top 4 specs in the game right now…… DH is next level people defending it are only defending it because they are playing DH/rev/necro and dont have problems with it. Compare it to a warrior or a theif, the damage utility everything is just too high. Stop defending it because you dont want it to get nerfed.
Same counter argument goes for you though… You don’t play DH, so you are complaining about how it is too good and needs nerf.
And please, dear kitten please, do not just tell me you tried to argue that thief DPS is lower than DH. You need to go back to basic math if that is the case.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I don’t understand how people think traps need to be nerfed and are so “OP”.
Maw was OP and I can see why it was nerfed. The change to Test of faith and multiple runs over it without ICD also made sense. But nerfing them again? They are STATIC for kitten-sake. If a guard is standing on top of a piece of ground and not moving far from it, do you think it might be that there is something under him?
Traps have existed in this game for a long time, and the mechanic isn’t any different for guard. What it means is when you melee rush a guard, you need to either dodge into it, or start up a block/invuln util.
The complaint that it hurts too much and I can’t see it is the same thing as complaining about thief stealth. If traps are OP because you can’t see them and they hit hard, then so is a thief going into stealth for a backstab.

Do you ever have anything positive to say on the forums? I read your posts all over the place, and I can say that I wholeheartedly disagree with every single one of them.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I don’t understand how Anet thinks it is fair to give a movement boost to every class but ours. Every other class either has a passive movement speed boost, or a way to have complete uptime on swiftness. Meanwhile we sit at 50% uptime on swiftness if we lose a util slot to it (vs engi with no utils lost, and rev with just one lost for 100% swift uptime).
Basically this is the equivalent at this point of taking away all movement speed from classes and just giving guardian permanent cripple. Seems fair when you put it that way right? Just moving around open world is a pain in the kitten. I don’t even care about combat as much as just moving from point A to point B.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Same thing as yesterday is happening again. Can get to char select, but loading map always fails. :-(
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I’m kind of kittened because of how they are nerfing around pvp… again. I used to play PvP a lot, but got bored with it and the lack of change/content added. I can get the ICD add, and maw wasn’t useful in pve because of the defiance bar and because FMW and RF are so much better elites. But nerfing proc of blades? It’s the only skill worth taking in pve, and you had to sacrifice Bane Signet or Wall of Reflection/SYF for it. Now it’s questionably worth taking. You really need the multiple hits mainly for proc’ing VoJ’s passive crip and burn for dmg modifiers. By nerfing that in what is a small way in PvP, you really gut the skill in PvE.
Way to go bad PvP players complaining and getting Guardian nerfed back to “in a good spot” since we know they are never going to buff us.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
When a class has traps (DH, Ranger) the trend has always been to dodge into the area where you think there might be traps (aka where the player is standing…). With the massive prevalance of blocks in this game (almost every class has them on a weapon, and several through boons, evasion, class mechanics, etc) making this blockable decreases an already static skill. You literally have to walk on top of this otherwise it is useless for a guardian. Traps have been in game for a long time, and haven’t ever been blockable, I don’t know why you would start now.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
You do have to give them some semblance of a break. I get frustrated just as much as anyone when stuff goes wrong and I don’t get to play when I come home from a long day at work. But they are real people too. They’ve been patching stuff around the clock since the xpac launched. It will get fixed once they can.
I hope you guys are getting rotated out well enough. I understand perfectly how bad those “war room” situations are in IT. Take care of your health! We can wait (as much as we might complain. ;-)

Gaile, can we please get a mod looking at titles of some of the threads too? I came in today to post about something and got tons of spoilers as thread titles. I wont be back now until I finish the story I guess. -_-
If the topic has “Spoilers” I recommend that you don’t even open the thread, because you don’t have a way of knowing what is told, or when it will appear in the thread.
I think you might be missing what he/she means. I came into this forum today (fortunately I had completed this part of the story) but the title of a post was Spoiler"Eir is Dead!!!!". So she isn’t saying look through threads with spoiler in the title. She means read the titles of the threads because some titles in and of themselves, are spoilers.

Came here to find this thread. I just spent an hour in game with a group of people, and about 20 people all left angry after this.
I did this challenge once on my main with a friend and we were fine. IN any bigger group this thing is a nightmare. It sucks life from all things including: mesmer clones (so mesmers can only auto attack basically), ranger pets (so all rangers have to set on passive), minions, summons, and one person who gets close can ruin it for everyone there.
This is a terribly designed challenge that makes people very very angry at the game. It needs to get fixed.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I’d give it a 6 overall.
Things I love:
- Maps are beautiful
- New enemy mechanics (not the bosses since they are just giant health pools with 1 hit attacks)
- The music is so much better than the core music
- Mastery system (minus the fact that you have to “earn” points separately from exploration)
- What little of the elite specs I have unlocked.
Dislikes:
- Gating of the Elite Spec, especially since you basically have to do map exploration in order to get HPs, and most of those are mastery gated. (Don’t like map exploration) and redoing on 9 characters is painful.
- Mastery points being “earned” separately from “training”.
- The fact that you can only level HoT masteries from doing the repetitive events. I like the events, and I like the new areas, but I don’t want to have to grind those events endlessly in order to level my HoT mastery. I want to do a combination of activities.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: eleshazar.6902
My constructive feed back on Elite Specs and HPs:
Problems:
1) Elite specialization isn’t very useful until you have unlocked pretty much all of it.
2) There are only two ways to get hero points. There are many who don’t enjoy being forced to do these activities, but they are necessary in order to unlock the full potential of your character
3) You have to do the same hero point challenges for every level 80 you have (I have 9). While doing this the first time might be ok, repeating the same challenges nine times is a daunting and non-enjoyable task.
4) A lot of the hero points are hard to get to/require more than one person. The difficulty with requiring multiple people is that most of them are mastery gated. So it’s hard to find a group that can all do them.
Possible Suggestions:
1) Don’t lock the elite specialization behind so many hero points. I understand some gating being helpful (I actually like the mastery progression, minus the fact that the points are earned from exploration), but it does seem excessive for something that so many people bought the xpac for.
2) Add more ways for people to get hero points. Whether it’s a fractal drop, something from a vendor in exchange for tokens, gold sink, pvp reward track, etc. It gives people more options with how they want to earn them. I personally don’t like the HP challenges that much, and grinding wvw ranks also doesn’t sound super fun to me.
3) I think you can mitigate this in one of two ways. If you lessen the gate/add more options to get HPs then I don’t see a problem with them not being account bound. If you don’t do those things, then maybe HPs after level 80 should be account bound. Doing it 9 times in the same way is very unrewarding.
4) This one is more of an extra. If you don’t fix it I’m not that upset, especially if you add more ways to get HPs. I think that making them scale better for the number of people around would help with this. Soloing a champ (which is what I’ve had to do for most) can be annoying, and for some because of their mechanics is impossible.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Solved this: So it sticks you in a weird instance. You have to wp to somewhere not in the instance. Then from that you can return to the portal in the SouthWest of the SW and you should be able to zone into Verdant Brink.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Because our client auto closed to patch after we finished the prologue, everyone who was in it can’t get access to Verdant brink. We can’t redo the story, and we didn’t get the WP unlocked because we weren’t sent to VB. :-(

Karl? ….. Karl? Are you there?
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
This might be more of a Colin question but: Why do you want to put gold behind content that is gear gated? Both fractals and Raids require you to have ascended gear which new players are less likely to have.
Also: Why do you want to increase scarcity of crafting materials needed in order to play the rewarding content (ascended crafting)?
Personally I have ascended armor, decent capital, and will make it through just fine. But I’m asking because if the intent is to keep new players in the loop in HoT, this change would appear to cause the opposite. Then again I’m not the economist, so that’s why I’m curious what your explanation is.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Welcome to Guard. Where we are the only class without a move speed buff. You either have to swap to staff constantly (I used to do this via inventory swap, cast 3, then switch back to reasonable weps), use retreat (which is what I do now because the bonus aegis helps keep up Unscathed Contender), or use save yourselves (probably the worst option since 60 sec cd for 10 sec swift). As others have said you can also buy Runes of the Traveler or Runes of Speed, but both of these will be a serious detractor from your DPS vs standard Scholar’s or Flame Leigon.
Maybe some day the devs will pay attention to us.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
With the addition of mesmer getting +25% speed in chronomancer, Guardian will be the only class without the option of getting it somehow (Technically Engi is perma-swift, but honestly that is better anyway).
Can we please have it in some optional way? Even if to just take for jumping puzzles, mai trin fractal running around to dodge cannons, or just to keep up with the party. It sort of made sense (didn’t agree with it, but was semi fair) when not every class had access. Now Guard is the only one without access to it. It seems highly unfair in my opinion since it isn’t like we hit harder than other classes in melee range.

DH is a power build that I like to use, as oppose to the core power medi variant.
I’ve always thought that burn Guardians had more at their disposal in terms of damages via blocks and utility items. Now it’s power guardian’s turn. They receive more damage applications through traps, more aegis applications means higher shattered aegis hit rates, and more cc effects to synergize the two.
Burn/Condi Guardians are not going to gain much, if anything, from DH tree. As a matter of fact, we’ll likely lose out on either damages or sustains and rightfully so. Power Guardians needed a push to rival that of burn guard meta.
(thats not to say that burn guardians are good now… my goodness.. Rev, Reaper, Engi are crazy good specs at the moment)
I don’t think you have any clue what a power guard is. A power guard is Zeal/Radiance/Virtues running all the damage modifiers and zerk gear. If you really try hard you can get DH damage close to current meta guard dmg, but that definitely isn’t by taking long bow, or more than procession of blades. You also lose utility by doing so.
There may be some who like DH, but the fact that we have gotten removed from meta comp after being in it for 2 years (and let’s be honest, we were only in it for WoR, aegis, and occasional stability/protection) should probably tell you something about our elite spec compared to others.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Small things that really need to change:
1) Virtue of Courage Aegis should trigger as soon as you start the cast as opposed to granting aegis after the 1/2 second cast time. It makes for laggy blocks and is a big detractor from the new virtue.
2) Trueshot rooting of the character is really awkward. When you are fighting an opponent with longbow you really need to keep away from them. We don’t have any escape mechanism like thief SB 3 or Ranger LB 3/4 or Ranger SB 3. So rooting us for that cast is doubly painful.
3) Unless there is some technical difficulty, not having virtues insta-cast anymore is really painful. I can understand with Wings of Resolve, but VoC especially, and to some extent Virtue of Justice (because of the blind) need that insta-cast to make them appealing over the normal virtues
Changes that will make DH more appealing:
1) Option for ranged traps. DH using longbow means you don’t want to get close to someone, if the traps aren’t ranged then they really don’t get much use in PVP situations. In PvE where stacking is prevalent you don’t have that problem as much. Perhaps this could be worked into the trap cd reduction trait.
2) Working passive speed into a trait. Guards have been dying for this forever. We kind of have to keep “Retreat” on our bar for this (helps with Unscathed Contender, but we also bring it so we can get from point A to point
. Freeing up our movement will allow us to not feel like we have to constantly have some sort swiftness on our bar.
3) Some form of condi cleanse either on LB or in trait form in DH. Condi meta is increasing, and DH builds lack much condi cleanse. Would be nice to have it in there somewhere.
