Well I’m only speaking from my own empirical evidence which is bound to be flawed. But I can say that in the past few days I’ve played over 100 tourney games and the results have been overwhelmingly not helpful. You have to treat each player differently. You can’t have a bad experience with one new player and assume they all are going to be like that.
The other thing that you can’t assume is that they are in fact new (sure if they are doubling up on a cap then you can be pretty sure). I’ve seen people criticize someone for going far when the team is losing a team fight on mid and a thief goes to decap. I’ve seen people criticize someone for defending home. So there are a lot of people offering “advice” that may not be the greatest advice to who they think are “new” people simply because they don’t play the same strategy as you.
I’m not trying to demonize all of sPvP veterans, and I see where people are getting frustrated, we all agree the matchmaking needs work, and they need a way to teach people sPvP without just throwing them in cold turkey. All I’m trying to do is get you to ask each and everyone of yourselves if you have treated someone poorly these last couple of days because of your frustration. I know that it happens to the best of us (I’ve definitely lost my cool with people in this game before when I was frustrated), I’m just asking everyone to keep in mind that these are people, and they are different people. Treat each interaction with respect first, and not based on your past experiences. It is after all a game, and getting stressed about it isn’t worth it. Sure these weeks will be tough at first, but be welcoming and work with people. Sure you will lose some games, but overall I’ve noticed that you can carry your team quite easily now since there are new players on both sides.
I’m just saying that if the toxicity continues through this transitioning time, we will be left with the same small population that we had pre patch.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
FYI, no bank/BL is by design. Devs didn’t want the mists to become a free hub for bank/BL access in pve. I’m not sure I agree, but I see where they’re coming from.
That is false. You can already do that simply by going to WvW from anywhere. Your home BL has crafting stations (which have your bank attached), BL trader, merchant, repair, etc. and you can get there from anywhere for free. So I highly doubt that was the reason. I think they just didn’t have enough time to add those in or, heaven forbid, want you to step out of HotM every once and awhile.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Absolutely agree with this post. Those points mean nothing. Many times the person that is lowest on that list actually contributed to the team winning more than the person with 200-300.
They keep saying it is a team game, so why do we have individual scores (especially when those scores encourage bad behavior like selfish playing).
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
And I get that. The MMR matching isn’t great. I’ve ended up in some frustrating matches before with people that will all flock to home, and then all leave after it is capped. But we have to work with the system we have, and provide feedback to Anet. Not take it out on these players who really don’t know any better.
If we want that to change let’s look at the root cause of the issue : Matchmaking is flawed. We know that we get matches where the people are of vastly different skill levels. We get matches where one side is all condi pu mesmers. It’s frustrating no doubt. But we have to provide feedback and offer solutions that are well thought out and not anger based.
The problem is that there is no great way for a player to learn how to do PvP at this point before jumping into the high end matches. Hotjoin teaches them the mechanics of maps, but also reinforces bad habbits like zerging. Taking away the phoney point system I think would help to lighten the zerg teaching. We are constantly told this is a team format, so why do we have individual scores? You either win or lose. And the points are awarded for doing things that oftentimes don’t actually help your team.
Those are the types of things we need to do though if we want things to get better. Not hate on newer players.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
So I finished my champion phantom title last night (I only needed 30 more wins when the patch went live), and after playing pvp non stop for the past few days I know why sPvP will not succeed in this game without some changes.
To start off with I know that I will most likely get people who are angry about what I say in this thread, but the truth is it is something that needs to be said.
The reason that sPvP is so small of a population is because of the toxicity of its members. It isn’t an Anet problem (although they have stuff they need to work on), it is a community problem.
I wouldn’t consider myself an expert pvp person, but I wouldn’t say that I’m new to the format either. I’m usually matched against 80s (by the new standard) and have faced some of the “big name” players in matches before. Most of the toxicity wasn’t targeted at me the last couple of days, but just seeing it directed at newer players made me so sad.
Every single match someone would make a comment about those kitten PvE players joining and ruining PvP. (And for reference I was in TeamQ, SoloQ and only a few times in hotjoin [like 3?])
“Those dumb noobs ran to beast first! GG "
“God you suck go back to PvE”
“All these matches are awful now that the PvErs came in.”
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT THE ORB?!”
“All they want are their rewards, they are awful”
“Why don’t you uninstall the game already?!”
And trust me there were much worse comments that aren’t appropriate to post on the forums.
I personally love all formats of this game, and play them all pretty equally. But I can say I will be playing pvp less because I have enough stress in real life and don’t need to come home to see such toxicity. You can blame Anet all you want for the problems with the PvP population, but the truth is they are trying. They gave us a great patch with some fun mechanics to it that will draw in new players. And all this community is doing is attacking them and making them feel unwelcome. You want to face more skilled players? Well they have to get skilled by practicing. A person doesn’t just join sPvP and automatically is amazing. They have to play games, learn the mechanics, better understand their class and others. But if people make them feel so unwelcome why would they ever want to stay that long? Trust me the rewards won’t outshine the way they are treated like garbage. Those are human beings with emotions, lives, feelings behind those keyboards, and you should respect them as such.
This community really needs to shape up. I’m ashamed after what I’ve seen the last couple of days and it makes me not want to associate myself with sPvP much anymore. So please people be nice to newer people. Don’t berate them for not being as good as you yet, teach them so that one day you can actually face them and it will be a challenge for you.
EDIT: My point is proven by the post near mine that is entitled “Too many noobs in tourneys”. And the first post starts out with “I hate them so much”. Deplorable…

So how does this happen with no one leaving? The match started with only 3 people on my side and no enemy, and this was in solo q.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but in non-level 80 dungeons crit damage seems like it scales higher now. I have run all explorable paths of ac and cm, and the crit damage is definitely higher. I feel that with a group with high crit damage are able to down bosses 25% faster now.
So, no berserker builds aren’t dead, and probably will be more prevalent due to the higher crit scaling in dungeons.
This is because of the adjustments that Anet made to mobs level 1-79 to make up for new characters not having trait access until later levels than before.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I love how people keep posting that PVT is great and more survivable! The funny thing is that if you are good at this game Zerk is survivable in PvE just as much as PvT. You just actually have to time those blocks/dodges/blinds/movement skills instead of relying on your armor to make up for your mistakes. That is why zerk will ALWAYS be the best gear for PvE with the horrible AI and tankyness of monsters in this game.
Sure it is more survivable for you. But the speed run players can survive just as well as you and deal twice your damage, so why do they need your support build? They don’t need help staying alive, they do just fine with their own defense. All you guys did was make zerks have to be less tolerant since their damage went down and they can’t carry a non zerk in the party anymore.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
In my honest opinion I think they need to make an official statement about this mess, and/or pull it back for now and re-evaluate. I know that they invested a lot of money in this roll out, but they might want to think about the revenue loss from all of the players they very well might lose over this.
But then again Anet has always taken the stance of when the going gets bad we stop talking and keep pushing the bad changes as if nothing is going wrong. Very bad PR stance to take, but the one they keep choosing time and time again.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
It is interesting that Anet took the one thing that holds people to this game, stronger than anything else, and tore it down. Community. That is what kept people in this game even when the updates killed their build. Even when the content was awful. Even when progress they had made was erased. Even when they got bored of the game because there isn’t permanent content. People stayed because at least they still had the people they had come to know and form relationships with.
Anet took the greatest asset that they had holding people to this game and said “to kitten with that”. One of the absolute worst moves they could have made. I forsee the mega server not being as big of a problem when there are no people playing the game anymore.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Yeah if you read the other threads on mega servers, the overwhelming majority do not like them, and a lot of people offer this feedback. It still isn’t a great solution, but it gives us some semblance of a haven that is safe from this monstrosity.
It still doesn’t solve the cacophony of other problems (language, lag, events, wp contest, etc.) but at least it will create somewhere in the game I can go. Even if it means I never step foot outside of there or wvw in the future…. (Jump into pvp from there instead of heart of the mists, and just stop doing pve).
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
People need to have a choice. Play on your home server or play on the “main”. If you want to play with a bunch of random people, fine go ahead. But, if anet finds that most people end up playing on their home server than a megaserver, they’ll know it’s a failure.
This megaserver thing might be one of the worst moves they’ve done to date.
This. So much this. Give us a choice! People have different wants and needs and you have admitted in the past that no change you make can satisfy everyone. So why are you now making it so that people can’t mitigate and play the game the way they want? We are forced to play in a system that caters to those who love seeing tons of people everywhere, and aren’t grounded in any set community. Why are the desires of the players that want zergs of random people everywhere catered to, and the people who like more personal close encounters with a set community in mind ignored?
You have basically ensured that awesome moments like our staged zombie invasion of our rival WvW server that ended with thirller can never happen again. Those are the moments that make people smile in this game, and moments that people will remember for a long time. This system quite effectively destroys the possibility of that happening in your game ever again.

Thanks Anet for ignoring our feedback and continuing to roll out the thing that none of us want…
Or maybe the feedback asking for fuller maps was significantly bigger than feedback asking for quieter ones. Probably even more than the feedback asking for empty maps because some computers can’t handle it.
What’s the point in a fuller map, if the Megaserver decides you’re going to one where everyone speaks a language you do not?
You know, like how the different languages of Europe picked out different servers to play on, with people who speak their language?
Only now you might be a Spanish speaker on a map that speaks French, or an English speaker on a German speaking map, or a French person on a map that speaks Lithuanian.
You missed this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-Updates-Guild-World-Events-Megaservers-WvW/page/5#post3915670Obviously the language mess isn’t how it was intended to work – they actually stated the opposite.
I’m not so sure.
They said Megaservers were supposed to prioritize people with the same language. What if there are not enough people with the same language to constitute their own map? In order to maintain full maps, it would start dumping the different languages together.
From https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/
This new system takes your party, guild, language, home world, and other factors into account to match you to a version of the map you’re entering. This will increase the odds that you’ll see the same people more often and play with people of similar interests.
So if there are a ton of people on a given map, it will probably sort language ok. However if it is a relatively barren map, it will actually accomplish the opposite and put more people with different languages together.
I guess this is a possibility. It would be marginal, though. The amount of complains suggest that this mess is the rule, not the exception – I mean, have there been a lot of responses saying the opposite is also hapenning? Servers full with same language players? (also true that people are most vocal when displeased).
But your explanation is definitely possible.
Language is only one of the very serious problems with this system though.
- People aren’t ending up in the same instance as the rest of their guild when trying to do stuff like guild missions.
- Party’s are ending up in different instances (happened to me and my party twice last night even though we are all from the same guild, and homeworld).
- The lag is awful for anyone on a medium hardware computer. I used to be able to run at high settings with 1080p, now I run at medium with some low settings and still experience awful lag. (And if they try to fix this by decreasing the “comfort zone” of maps they will end up splitting parties and guilds even more.
- WvW/Server Identity/RP is all getting affected, and affected hard by this.
I think megaservers can work for some games, but not implementing it after the game has gone live. People chose this game for certain reasons and liked what they liked. When you change in the middle of the game’s lifecycle you anger a lot of people, and introduce a bunch of problems in the community of the MMO. I really hope that Anet has a manual option in soon. People in the modern will like free will, not everything being decided for them by some flawed algorithm.
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
This mega server addition makes me really sad. And Anets way of taking it slowly? We will implement another 5+ maps on day 2!
I literally cannot go to heart of the mists at prime time. My computer takes forever to load in, and once it is in there are so many people there that my computer lags on just turning the camera. I have a good computer (used to play at high settings) and now because of zerg fest everywhere I go I keep my settings at medium, and it still lags.
Anet encourages zerg mentality everywhere now…. You don’t like doing zerg events? Well we will just place you in a map zerg everywhere you go! And there is no way to force yourself into a quieter map. You are constantly fighting other players to tag creatures for events, you can’t use the dps targets in heart of the mists because there is always someone there already, and you lag constantly.
Thanks Anet for ignoring our feedback and continuing to roll out the thing that none of us want…

Same here.
I did CoF Story Mode some time this morning, followed by a quick path 1 run. CoF unlocked the progression path just fine.
This afternoon I also did Story Mode Arah and at the end it did not unlock anything. Not sure what the issue is, but maybe it’s somehow tied to just being rewarded once for each dungeon? Idk…
On a similar note, when I first entered the Mist my PvP locker started unlocking the skins. However I jumped into an sPvP match before it had finished which halted the process. Are my sPvP skins all unlocked or did it somehow stop prematurely?
I’m guessing the issue is simple. When you do story mode it checks your pvp table and sees if x dungeon is unlocked. If it isn’t then set the flag to unlocked! If it is unlocked then do nothing. Problem arises with the rotation because for a temporary time the Arah will show as unlocked because it is for 2 weeks.
Just my guess at what the issue is related to. But without seeing the code your guess is as good as mine
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is what Anet did.
PvE = Full zerk only now. No forgiving a pvt or condi that slips in. Zerks can’t carry them anymore. Condis and pvt still slow and low end skill use.
PvP = Condis everywhere. Everyone will be running condi dmg/prec/vitality. Bye bye guardians in pvp since they are still weak to too much condi pressure, and don’t have a viable condition build.
WvW = Dire. Everywhere. Condi tanks rule all. (Clarification: I’m talking small group roaming. Zergs will still be PvT balls because of the condi cap and it’s slow damage).
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
The truth is Anet created a higher need for full zerk in pve with less tolerance for the person to slip in with a condi build of pvt. In wvw/pvp all they did was make condis stronger by nerfing direct damage.
So most builds will look like this for high game play in each mode
PvE = Full zerk no defense stats at all (higher skill cap, newer/less skilled players can’t pull it off.
PvP = Condi/Precision/Vit or tough builds will be very prevelant. Expect to see more condi warriors/necros/mesmers/thieves and less direct damage build (the entire guardian class).
WvW = Dire. Everywhere. All day. Buy the gear before the price goes through the roof.
And then all those Dire users get mowed down by a properly built and played power train in WvW.
I’m not talking about zerg fights. Those will remain pretty much the same. I’m talking about small scale roaming. trust me a group of dire users would melt a group of pvt users at a camp in a heartbeat….

There were areas adjusted such as the trait lines which now provide 300 ferocity from maxing a trait line. At level 80, 300 ferocity is 20% critical damage instead of the old 30%. These obviously affect PvP reducing critical damage along with some adjustments on skills and traits.
To counter-act this we increased the ferocity that is provided on the PvP stat combinations more so then just converting it over to the new stat. You should generally end up with around the same amount of critical damage as before. There will be some slight variance though.
“Slight variance” lol. Yeah we can do math. It isn’t slight (Just like when you said that “10%” nerf to zerk builds when you really meant 33% nerf in traits + nerfed everywhere else for about a 70-80% nerf overall for some builds). Thanks for increasing the condi meta in pvp/wvw and increasing the absolute need for zerk in pve.

before this patch i ran my guardian around with full knight with divinity runes
and bec of the loss in dmg i nowe run full zerk to compensate for the dmg loss
feels weird tbh
100% This. All they did was increase the need for zerker in PvE. Zerk groups will now be less forgiving if a PVT jumps in because they can’t afford to carry anymore. Still Zerk meta there.
And now the condi meta in wvw/pvp is going out of control. I’ve been in TA, Solo Q and Hot Join since patch quite a bit. Out of the 10 players on the field usually 8 are running condi builds. Thanks Anet. Even though you said that Zerk dmg wasn’t going to be affected in PvP it was. The balance honestly ruins this game which could be so good.

Same here. Sorry didn’t realize I made a duplicate thread, but the same thing happened to me. I did Arah SM last night, but since it is in the rotation I think the game thinks it is already unlocked so no credit towards permanent was given.
Hopefully I don’t have to run it a third time -.-
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
So I did Arah SM last night with some friends in order to keep it unlocked in PvP after the time limit is up. I didn’t get a popup saying unlocked after finishing (like I did for CM) and it still shows the countdown timer.
Perhaps there is a bug where if you do a track that is currently unlocked for the cycle it thinks it is unlocked and doing story mode doesn’t actually unlock it permanently like it should?

They said 9 rounds, we are in round 3, still 6 more rounds to go.
Most of them for most servers completely irrelevant.
Ranks 2-8 will be completely decided in the last 2 rounds, every result before doesn’t matter et al.
Not quite sure how you came to that conclusion…. Seeing as the points accumulate week to week, and it is the accumulation of win points (5,3,1) that decide whether you win not the last two rounds.
EDIT: In all actuality for the most part the ranks will be decided long before the last round. That’s kind of how the Swiss style tournament works… You will remain in static match ups towards the end since it will be where you belong rank wise. It is only chaotic and decisive at the beginning which we are drawing to a close of, and the rank alignment is getting pretty clear in most leagues.

I personally don’t care about having to now spend charges to change looks. My only problem is now I have to spend charges just to get back to looks I already had for more than 46 charges can provide. Armor and Weapons.
If you prefer you can use up bank space and just transmute different armor sets like you could in PvE before. So you can transmute a look once, and then simply replace that armor when you want a new look. That way you didn’t waste your old transmute and can go back to it when you want. Only downside is that if you do this a lot you lose storage space to the copious amounts of armor you accumulate.
Plus we should see how frequently charges are awarded just by playing pvp, because it seems to be rather frequently. Who know, just by playing you may be able to switch as much as you want

Something I actually do now, I have taken and used Trahearne’s quote “This won’t end well”, in multiple situations.

My list:
1) Warrior (Takes little skill, very powerful)
2) Engineer (Decap build is near impossible to beat without constant stability)
3) Necro (Very good at massive condi piling in the ring where you need to be standing, also can bunker relatively well with MM build).
4) Thief (Very agile and can power someone down easily)
5) Mesmer ( Very good 1v1, especially when running condi PU, but weak at actually capping points and slow to boot).
6) Guardian (Good bunkers, but rely on other being around to sustain, also in dps form they are as glassy as eles).
7) Ranger (Has good tanky builds and condi builds but nothing to really get overly excited about)
8) Elementalist (Pretty subpar in sPvP. Find in duels with scept/dag, good team damage if using staff, but only if people don’t power them down right off the bat).

I kind of liked doing collecting as many AP as I could. Too bad that will be diminished.
If you’ve not reached the 12k mark yet, you’ve got many, many more months of being able to do all the dailies possible.
I’ve a little over 13k points and I’m not even to the halfway point of 10k daily APs.
This is what confuses me. if you are at 13K haven’t you exceeded 10k daily APs?
Please explain.
As someone else said, the cap is only achievement points that are gained from doing dailies. If you go into your hero panel “press H by default” go to the achievement pane. Hover your mouse over your total number and it will break down how many were gained from daily, monthly, and permanent. The only things being capped are daily and monthly amount.
In other words doing your daily will no longer reward achievement points after you have gained 10K from dailies. Same goes for monthly but with a cap of 5K.

Progression of sPvP:
“Yay great comabat system!”
“Ok this is getting boring….”
“Why no more maps or game modes than this?”
“These new maps suck! Remove them from TeamQ and Solo Q!”
“We’re bored, no one focuses on sPvP! The rewards suck!”
“You got rid of glory in lieu of a new rewards system?! How could you?”
“Ooooo new patch coming with awesome rewards! They finally concentrate on us!”
“Wait …. what? I have to actually support Anet’s employees with real money? I never had to do that before. Conspiracy!!!!”

So I’m a little confused on this.
I heard that the reward tracks were account wide. In other words, once you unlock the reward track by doing story mode on one character you can do that reward track on any character without having to redo story mode on them. Is this the case? Also as a side question does doing story mode on a character now unlock explorable mode account wide in PvE? Or is that the same as before (character based and not account based)?

As a joke my group of friends and I often advertise our parties as 25K AP +.
It’s true someone with 10K aps can be awful, and someone with 1K can be an amazing player (I’ve seen both), but that doesn’t mean that the AP metric has no value. As others have said it does indicate time spent in game since you can’t get 10K aps overnight. I personally don’t require a certain AP number, but I would be lying if when someone joins my party I don’t look and make assumptions based on the numbers I see. Whether you like it or not, the probability stands that the higher AP = more experienced. It is a faulty measure, but it isn’t completely without merit.

All our first-party HTTPs sites (including the commerce panel) are behind IIS, which doesn’t suffer from heartbleed. Our third-party hosted HTTPs sites (buy.guildwars2.com, in-game purchasing flow, and CDNs) were not vulnerable when I checked Tuesday morning.
The CDNs at least were vulnerable before that but no user-specific data ever flows through those so it shouldn’t have been an issue.
Just to be sure we’ll be issuing new certs for all our secure domains in the near future, but we’re pretty confident that there were no issues for our sites.
I was actually going to post this later. I had checked the forum sites and found out that they were ok, but I was too lazy to run a pcap to see where the payment data actually went in the TP (plus using an inline proxy to stop the payment actually going through would have been a pain -.-). You get one charge per rank. So if you are rank 30 you get 30 charges.
As a side note this is because your gear isn’t only pvp gear anymore, so if you alts have pve gear it can come into pvp now, and vice versa.
And for all of those people in pvp that complain about having to pay for trans charges in order to change your look from now on I say this: If you want the nice rewards and attention that pve gets, then you have to start making it worth Anet’s time. They are a business, and invest their dev time where they think they will get a return on their investment. If the PvP population never fills the coffers, they won’t get any attention. Plus you can get charges for going down the reward line in pvp, so technically you never once have to spend a gem to get the charges to change your clothes.
Thanks for your unasked for useless advice bro, im glad you can speak for a company you dont work for.
As a person who understands what an ROI is in business, sure I can talk to it. And advice is only useless if you dismiss it as such. Even if it is advice you disagree with you can always gain something from it.

Just wondering if there was going to be a chart tracking progress of “Season 2” since there was one under the Community>Leaderboard section on the site last time so we could see where servers stood in their respective leagues as the season progressed.

You can’t really compare the leagues to anything else, much less a competitive league. Using the guildwars 1 analogy … each team was limited to 8 players and each team was to field 8 players. That fasciliated a battle in which the higher skilled players won.
In guildwars 2 each team has a maximum number of people that can be battling at any time. Generally this is never reached except by the most populated servers on prime times.
Are you really complaining about people outside of Gold getting the same rewards as the people in Gold? This game isn’t set-up in a sense where higher tiered = better player. Higher tier pretty much = more population with vary few viarances between. If Gold was given better rewards than the others it just further compounds the issue of sever stacking.
I have played in on many severs all the way from 1st to 24th. I can tell you that nothing makes you work harder than being on the bottom where every fight is truly a battle. I find it Ironic how you want higher rewards in gold when in reality each player there (with some exceptions) does not have to work as hard as players in lower tiers. You can disagree with this but it is my perception from playing up and down the tiers.
I couldn’t agree more with this. Lower tiered servers work very hard, and contain very skilled guild groups. True there are people that are new/not good at wvw on lower tiered servers like anywhere else. But I stay in a lower tier specifically because it is more about the fights, and less about the PvDooring. We don’t always have a large zerg at our disposal, but the most memorable fights and best moments in WvW are when it is just a few of us fighting an equal few, or slightly larger group. Zerg v zerg isn’t as much fun as a good old fashioned 10 v 10. Or oftentimes that good 10 v 30. Trust me it feels so much better than karma training. I take admire people that stay lower tier far more than the people that flock to blackgate just to get their pretty shinnies for zerging.
