Mesmers. Nuff said.
Except what mesmer build that is dangerous to bunkers has enough condi clear to not need to be 100% protected and carried by their team? As a war who previously played mesmer, I don’t even really need to try and hit the mesmer. I just keep combustive shot on the point. They can’t burst me hard enough before they have to run away due to condis. There are like, two or three mesmers in the game that I’ve encountered which are good enough to be a real threat to a semi-decent bunker. Mesmer condi clear is a joke even with the dec 10 changes. More mantra changes, rofl… kitten kitten Anet.
Look at it from a higher ranking hj hero’s POV…
These low rank players very often are completely ignoring the game objectives to duel/die in the roads. The mid-high rankers who try to help them and give advice are either ignored, or laughed/raged at for suggesting they try in lolhotjoin. That kills the motivation to help.
On top of that, after a match or two it’s clear who you want on your team and who is a liability. As unfun as it is to zergstomp noobs, it’s way less fun to be that one guy on your team trying to cap and win, while a half dozen rank nothings get farmed.
The new scoring has helped a little. I suggest some type of MMR system where hotjoin is just that. You join and get placed in a room with similarly ranked players. Teams should be randomized each match. Give a quitter debuff instead of autobal. Draconian and WoW-like perhaps, but then at least it would be “fair.”
Yeah, I already don’t care about the rewards enough to even open my win chests. However, the trick or treat bags make my blood boil.
More than a possibility. The meta has already shifted to bunker imo, most ppl just haven’t caught on.
Hm, I guess they don’t have many Anet staffers playing mesmer.
I can’t think of anything that would have changed with your build… They nerfed combustive shot radius with stage 1 and 2 adrenaline, this was really needed imo though… that combo field was huuuuge. They also fixed warhorn so with the trait it properly converts 1 boon instead of 2-3. Any other changes? The shout buffs are crazy :P
They don’t do much damage and they don’t cap a point… it’s basically a 4v5
Sad but true. Ignore them.
I never lose to them but i always end up having to walk away and it is just very annoying to fight.
Walking away is winning. All this build can do is waste your time.
IDK, the mists seem busier now than ever and top players are always quitting every game. What matters is the size/activity of the pvp community as a whole.
This requires no argument. The idea is truly that bad on it’s face.
So, you can dodge a lot in between not damaging me? K.
CONSTRUCTIVE PART OF THREAD:
There needs to be a guide/tutorial/method of learning pvp. New players get hotjoin (which some don’t even know exists they found the solo q button first). Some don’t want help from other players for masochistic reasons. Where are new players supposed to learn?Any specific ideas on a better tutorial?
The mists already has tutorials on capping, stomping etc. What exactly is it that needs to be taught? I mean, really? It’s standing inside circles better than the other guy. The rest is just on the ground fighting experience.
Ele’s are so overnerfed it’s laughable. You could double their base HP, and MAYBE they’d be viable.
Serious question… were you dropped as a baby?
:P
Really though, capping in stealth? LOLOLOLFDLLLLOLOL
No.
Simple. Give it the same treatment you just gave temple. No one likes underwater combat. SO:
Move the underwater cap point to the deck of the boat. Move the boat up a bit on the map to maintain point distances. Sharks now just aggro anyone in the water.
This lets the cannon hit all 3 points, making it more important to hold. The center point on the boat would see a LOT of action. The water is now more a hazard to avoid or terrain to exploit than a place to fight.
I mean, who wouldn’t rather battle it out on the deck of a pirate ship above shark infested waters vs down fighting a ranger at Ruins all game?
because I like fighting other players. I also like the gw2 combat system. Otherwise.. meh
They’re trying to fix mesmers by buffing mantras, but they’re not removing the redonk cast time? FDL. No thanks, I’ll keep flogging that OP condi war.
fixing the sigil should be enough to start.
So I’ll ask you this, if you hate the meta why are you demanding a nerf for something that allows for teams to bring a hard counter to the table?
winner winner chicken dinner
I’ll send you a PM. My build is not for general consumption
I use Soldier amulet sometimes depends on what enemies I faced. More dpsers I use soldier, more condi spamers I use zerker. Sometimes I feel Solider is a lot better but it really depends on luck. Nice build btw! keep going!. Also Battle Sigil migh work but I still like Energy better because I don’t really want to been focusing on might stacking.
Yah I like energy a lot as well, I just wanted to maximize the Runes of Hoelbrak. I actually prefer to use Sig of Stamina so I not only have a cleanse but faster Endurance Regen as well. It’s especially useful is you don’t kill a Spirit Ranger before Zerker Stance runs out and they get a wave of Condis out on you.
I fear Thieves that can just appear and steal all my might though but if I react fast chances are they die in one Hammer combo.
If you enjoy the might stacks, you might try a banner build. I don’t even bother with might duration runes, just sigils of battle and blast combos. Maintain 10-20 stacks in most fights with little effort.
this is terrible, this idea…
So basically an aoe, long duration blurred frenzy. You are nutz.
I’ve just been on one of these servers to see how skyhammer zerg vs zerg is.
But instead of fighting normally they just hit eachother and fall down to get over 200 rank/glory points a minute.
inb4 esport trolls
HAH – when someone in my guild started naked zerker only server, I suggested this would be faster. I hope there is lots and lots of abuse so ANet notices it.
Hotjoin a lot. The higher ranked folks tend to hang out in the lower numbered servers, fyi. Observe a few games and find a thief whose style you like. Check out their build, watch their moves, practice.
1) Ranger/Warrior/Necro
2) …
3) Thief/Guard/Mesmer/Elementalist/Engineer
everyone complains about the stun warriors too… the real cheez is condi war.
Yeah, 2 is pretty lackluster. I think I’d rather have a block or interrupt there, though. Evis is a short enough CD to use with mobile strikes effectively.
Remove? It would be so easy to fix.
My Everquest character is probably older then you are. :P
And my MUD character was pkilling nubs when you were a twinkle in your daddy’s sack. You clog the forums with inane babble, would love to see less of you on here.

Just give it time, you’ll be able to faceroll rangers again very soon. Trust me on this one..
Phew! Thank you sir, you have put my mind at ease.
They really don’t bring much to the table right now that isn’t better provided by another prof.
I was in love with solo queue for the first couple days until I started to notice how incredibly bad the matchmaking was. Hotjoin is more rewarding. No thanks.
This realy is a great thread, i support nearly every point made here. Let’s hope the devs will recognize it.
not to be doomsdayish but I heard almost every single suggestion or point here on the beta forums over a year ago. I don’t think devs make major decisions based on player feedback, it just influences the priority of which thing THEY want to add.
I work for a software company (not in gaming), and this is exactly how it works for us. We LOVE feedback, it means we never are short of ideas… If we have a ton of requests for something that’s fairly easy to implement, it’ll probably get in. If it’s too far off the roadmap or would impact other things, probably not. Ultimately though, it’s our sales and marketing execs who decide product direction. Likely GW2 is the same.
the scoring supports zerging and off point killing. It’s stupid and needs fixed.
However, I like my pvp fast paced and with less tells. It feels more realistic to me. Positioning and experience are VERY important. Everyone seems to want to slow things down, remove the twitch… BLAH
Cast bars and normalized models would make me quit GW2. Make the animations more robust and unique, sure. More game types, YES PLEASE. Otherwise, you noobs need to shut up and learn to play.
Really, if you see a dude swining a big hammer at your face, you dodge. I don’t need a cast bar telling me if it’s a fierce blow or hammer shock so I can ‘decide’ if it’s worth burning a dodge. It’s good as is.

Burst them from range
The trait system is nice, I don’t get the whining.
please stop asking for this. Not everyone wants training wheels.
I don’t care about pvp progression. To me it’s simply a marker of how much “experience” someone probably has.
Or it could be the person playing the mesmer who is at fault….
Check the mesmer forums i recently posted my build that i use in 1v1s and that i have been using since the first week of this game.Okay Professor Literal Von Pedantic.
I still win almost all my 1v1’s. But I mark that up more to my thousands of games on the profession. In an actual team fight, as a back bunker, or a roamer, or any other role I might want to play, I’d rather take my warrior right now.The ONLY exception to this right now for me is Skyhammer. And then all I really need is decoy and a focus for the hammer room.
Your build is fine, but it’s just zerker phantasm… I’m sure I could farm mad points in hotjoin with it, but it doesn’t address any of the issues with mesmer viability overall.
Take deeep breaths everything will be okay iiiiinnnnn and oooouuuuuttttt.
I was simply replying to the person who was complaining about mesmers losing 1v1s all the time. Also if you would rather take your warrior to tpvp over your mesmer i’d suggest actually playing a warrior. Also it’s Dr. Professor Literal Von Pedantic to you.
Well, the topic of the thread is mesmer viability. I’d rather take my mesmer to tpvp, but unfortunately that gimps my team. You’re basically saying it’s a L2P issue. It is not.
Or it could be the person playing the mesmer who is at fault….

To hear people talk on the forums, it isn’t possible to counter them. If you meet one, your best bet is to bend over meekly and ask them to be gentle.
A team of rank 5 spirit rangers would give a team of rank 50 anything else’s a really tough time. That’s broken.
I LOVE MESMER. But they are garbage right now. Here are some of my gripes, in no particular order.
- If you spec for condi, you have to choose low health, low armor, or kitten damage. Condition application is slow and difficult compared to other prof’s condi builds. Clone spam is our easiest condition application and the traits are in the Power, Crit and Armor traitlines…
- If you spec for burst, you are so glassy that even taking condi removal skills is a waste. Shatter has always been about crit, so why our condition damage on the illusion tree?
- Deceptive evasion should be an adept trait to allow for build diversity.
- Phantasm specs are too easy to shut down now that the ret only lasts 5 seconds and they lost CD’s reduction across the board.
- Too much reliance on Phantasms and shatters for DPS. Our other weapon skills need more punch.
- Staff works far better as a power weapon than a condi one, since iWarlock’s damage only scales with power. Warlock should apply a condition (I vote torment).
- iMage, enough said… Okay, not quite. I like the idea of ret/confusion from a phant, but we REALLLLLLY need our weapon phantasms for DPS. Replace the confusion with a decent duration burn. Drop the ret and increase the base damage so he hits moderately hard. Reduce cooldown so it’s the same as other phants. Viola.
- Focus – it seems every other patch or so the reflect trait gets broken.
- Blurred frenzy – Might save your kitten , might do some dps, might have you eat a few thousand ret damage. The uncertainty makes it exciting.
- Scepter. Did anyone play test this weapon? Really? Are you sure?
- Illusionary leap pathing – OMFGWTFBBQ FIX THIS NAOOOW…. phew. Ok, done for now.

Treat spirit rangers like a boss. Take out their adds first. Juke away to heal or wait out condis. Kill the nature spirit before blowing your load to down the ranger.
That’s if you MUST 1v1 them… MUCH better to not engage or 2-3v1 burst them down.
This build is so training wheels, ehrmagerd.
But no, condi warriors do not need to be toned down. In fact, they still have a bit of work before they can/will be “meta” viable and are still far from undefeatable in HJ/sPvP. Hope this helps a little on the understanding side.
^ This. I think they’re in a much better place than say, condi mesmers, but their condis just don’t stick like a necro or engi. Usually having to rely on sigils for additional condition types to protect your bleeds.
Just wondering what class did they play to do this necro or engi?
and survey says… Necro
As a spirit ranger, you should get capped at 50 points per game to balance out the fact that most of your “hard work” is done via AI.
trololol
Oh, snap!.
It just came out. it will take time for everything to settle in. I played a few and loved it. Got matched with comparably ranked played in 2/3 games. Yes, it was frustrating when my one noob team was zerging while I’m busting my hump trying to out backcap… but really, this is exactly what the community has been asking for. It may not be 100% perfect, but let us try it before you come spreading doom and gloom.
It is still amazing. Dont get me wrong. This patch saved the game. But still….there are obvious improvements which can be made.
THIS.
I just want to login, and be able to jump into a competitive pvp match with no BS.
I played a few solo tourneys this AM, and oh my god… I looooved getting right in to a fairly evenly matched game with teammates who really do want to win, but without having to deal with TS and worrying about getting the perfect class comp together. Totally what I wanted.
I like not knowing my exact team makeup, the uncertainty makes it dynamic and interesting. I like having to spec more all around than for one niche, and I think there will now be a solo queue and a group queue meta, that may not always be totally in synch with each other.
So…. Please ANet, don’t make it too easy to cheese the solo queue. It’s literally all that has some of us pvpers still logging in.
If you want honor and glory, go hot join hero it. Tourneys aren’t for farming rank.
The amount of opportunities you get to actually land a burst setup is incredibly, stupendously, absolutely too kitten high compared to the number of burst setups that other classes will get against you when you throw in mobility breaking immobilize and endure pain/shield stance.
I disagree.
Shatter Mes can burst just as hard as quickly, from range without having to land a melee attack to set it up. Engi can fully load you with condis inside of a glue shot. Thief can re-open on you many times. 1H strength guards… cmown mang.
Warriors are finally up to par with other classes. They’re just getting kitten on because everyone has been so used to them not being a threat (esp 1v1).
Also, people hate being stunned/feared/not in control of their char while taking damage. So any build for any prof based around those mechanics that is at all popular is likely to receive a lot of flak.
