if your partied with a thief on the opposing team.. you can see them in stealth..
this was only seem on spvp for me.. but that didnt seem right.. at first i just pretended not to see him.. was kinda funny tho

on that map that is the only thing that makes it interesting..

yes it’s very annoying to have your hard work taken from you with 1 hit..
so many times i solo only to have a thief run in and instagib the boss..

but then a again theres been many times when I have stolen their boss.. it feels great for that moment. even better is bursting a player down while the boss is on them }:) whahahaaa

if you dumb down this then, it would be alot less interesting..

give it some time.. e.g. when u start doing it to them..

ok I was wondering if Longbow has some use in TPvP.. hear me out

I run a bunker build so I’m fighting close up pretty much all the time..

so in general Shortbow wins cus it has better dps close range ect

but i rarely ever use it now,

there was a topic on how to define a bunker, either just holding the point or point control (as in knocking the player off cap)
I was thinking if i swap out Shortbow for Longbow i gain 2 important abilities

point blank shot to push ppl off my cap point (could be very useful)

hunters shot for x10 vulnerability (10% increased damage)

seeing as i dont really use Shortbow I cant really see a down side to this

can the ranger community share their thoughts on this?

there is a fine line between point holding and bunkering

in general my build as a ranger is bunker

but when i ask in /m when im LFG I never say bunker ranger cus it never really felt right to say that

instead i opted for “point holding ranger LFG”

ele, guard and engi have the abilty to bunker and push off a point with ease

i was toying with the idea of taking a LB just for point blank shot so i can have the ability too but I hesitate because of nerfed damage close range.. but im leaning towards it more and more..

Because right now, DD literally has
everything: damage, mobility, healing, survivability. At least from a PvP standpoint.

What’s wrong with that? Almost every warrior, guardian, and thief have those attributes. Are they they only ones allowed to have any fun?

And why are they trying to buff single target damage by nerfing AoEs? People who spec for single target damage should be kitten well prepared to only damage a single target. (A shocker, I know.)
Every class can spec for AoE damage except for ranger but them needing buffs is a different story entirely.

What the OP is saying is that this feature does not work reliably. It seems to be related to which way the camera is facing more so than which enemy is closest.

I understand that.. and know of it, really pisses me off at the times i need it most..

i hope they change it to ignore the camera

but i hope it’s not an immersion thing where it’s like our eyes so if we cant see it it cant be targeted.. i hope thats not the case.. but might be the reason it is this way

if you take alook in the game controls options there are several targeting skills that are unbinded that will help with your targeting issues

If you put runes in fine gear (only one i have tested) you get a pop up saying “this will soulbound the item to you if you upgrade it”

i had forgotten about that pop up as it was months ago

i had recently upgraded all my armor, saw that my old set wasnt soul bound (its a MF set) went to go and sell it but i couldnt..

my only suggestion is to put soulbound on the item description to save confusion, as currently it does not..

Well, one awesome way to turn AoE into a very useful anti-zerg tool and make it much less useful against single targets would be to introduce a mechanic where secondary effects such as blast damage, conditions and so on, increase in intensity the closer the affected targets are. And removing target cap on the number of targets for certain AoE skills.

That way, an AoE would have a weak effect on its own, but when applied against a number of closely positioned targets it would increase in effectiveness drastically, to the point of being very damaging if you catch a zerg in it.

i thought they wanted to tune it down abit so single target build/professions stand out abit more as viable.. this suggestion goes against why they are doing it in the first place lol

Pet issues aside, of which there are many, I’m not sure what class you’re playing because I’m awesome in 1v1 sPVP.

You can say anything you want to in a forum but not many are going to believe you when they know that they are having the same issues as the rest of us.

So you are great? You’re great after the nerf (and it WAS a nerf)?

If so, let’s see some video of your spvp hotjoins and then show is the spec… otherwise, really, you’re just one who just wants to be above everyone else and say “hey they don’t know how to play/spec/monitor the character” wrong, very very wrong.

What the hell are you talking about? We’re a very strong class 1v1. Seriously, we’re very strong 1v1 as many other rangers where would tell you, if you’re not able to stand up to most classes 1v1 with a ranger you’re running a bad build, both our trap and bunker builds are very effective 1v1.

…sorry, I’m giggling a little inside that you tried to somehow “shame” me because you’re bad. 1v1 is one of the few areas rangers don’t have trouble.

Ive been running a bunker build for TPvP and ever since i found a few life saving traits 1v1 is not a problem for me. i can 1v1 guard and ele with ease.. ele’s i cant kill but they cant kill me either(we have some epic fights tho) guards i always win by out lasting them.. and well placed burst.. thieves cant insta gib me anymore.. so i recommend changing up your build if your having trouble 1v1

he’s probly under the impression that because our pets have x amount of our damage he must be stronger.

he’s probly forgetting pets hit hard compared to us..

if hes been in pvp to get this view ranger pets are ignored alot so their damage isnt easily seen by a non ranger..

if he has this view from pve then its probly cus pets die alot so we loose alot of dps durning those downed pet moments

tbh he should be able to out damage you, but being able to out play you is another matter..

the pet is one thing that makes rangers unique to other professions and so many want them gone.. (shh dont listen to them kitty)

yes they have alot of our damage.. yes they die.. but there are other ways than just removing for a buff ect..

the main problem i have with pets is scaling of stats, cus of pet we have less damage so when we use traits like damage is increased by x%

the percentage is lower for our class because our pet alot of it so we get:

ranger 60-70% of damage
pet 40 – 30% of damage

so that x% increase to damage is only applying to 60-70%

I have had this problem for a while now.. thought it would go away..

when i try to change my render sampling option to native my screen goes blank all but name plates. A relog does not fix the problem..

anyone got a fix for this?

i know true 1v1 balancing will never happen, and they are not focusing on that.. what i ment was soon as they get the professions to how they were intended to be.. as there are alot of bug fixes still going on to professions/skills then maybe they will have time in the schedule..

can i ask when you state “the game is not intended to be balanced for 1v1” is there any arenanet post that says this or just from the player base?

because i dont see why it is “not intended” in the long run

sure they are well off balance now, but i dont think it would take much to bring professions more in line for 1v1.. given enough time

“There are a few different knobs we can turn in regards to AoE some of the bigger ones being:
Radius of the AoE
Frequency of the AoE Damage
Damage of the AoE
Max Targets of the AoE

Currently, some players causing the AoE are able to do more damage to one person while also controlling a portion of the field, compared to a player with single target damage.
In our balance discussions we always look at what these changes could do to PvE as well as PvP. Any changes we make will undergo a lot of testing, both internal and by our trusted alpha team. It is important to understand that we are not doing a blanket nerf to all AE’s or a dramatic adjustment of the damage AoE’s can do. There may be some cases where players can build for AoE damage, but are just not viable or other cases where AoE is clearly the dominate way to build, and as such the other builds get left on the side lines. Its these classes/builds that we are concerned about."

and the answer is it’s not balanced for 1v1 yet, it’s a slow progression of things needed to be in place before other things can be added..

we ever gonna do something about constant people going afk in spvp???

I’ve seen up to five people afk and it impacts the game and my view of the spvp in general.

I understand bio breaks that you just can’t manage to wait for but this going afk for several games in a row messes up the “balance” as well as the scores… and the laughing/scorn/ridicule from those who “win” in such games is disgusting.

anet get it together!

if you look at the screen shot there are only a possible 4 afk

cus the person taking the screen shot is one of the players with 0 points.. just saying..

EDIT: also 1-2 of them could of just joined that match..

I do agree tho a afk kick would be nice

I can see the miscalculation here.. your adding the hits from the screen up.. not from the combat log..

my hits were
1100+1900+2900+3450+4400+6500+7200+9200+11400 then a few 1000+2200+1400+1200 auto shots… and it was dead
so that gives me roughly 50-55k hitpoints…

the numbers it throws up on screen are added for the whole skill.. so im guessing your math should of worked out to 11400+1000+2200+1400+1200 = 17k

try your tests in the mists on a golem and only use numbers from combat log might help

Surely this adds a little to strategy to the map..

Its only a 1 min buff, which is very short compared with the length of a match..

This also gives a reason to get off a cap point.. which adds to the tactics that can be used..

Personally I think anything that inspires players to not just sit on a cap point is a good way forward..

If you nerf the buff it then becomes useless..
If you increase the cap time then it will never be taken because of other team interrupts.

I dont think there is a problem with the way it stands atm

Me and a another ranger were attacking each other from ledges on Temple of the Silent Storm..

he managed to down me first but my pet was near him by then and just managed to down him too..

so now there are 2 ranger that are throwing rocks at each other franticly because the range was just too short.. made me giggle alot

in the end I won only because my pet was on him

for the ranger a possible explanation could be this trait:
Hide in Plain Sight
Applies camouflage when you are dazed, knocked down, launched, pushed back, or stunned. This effect cannot trigger more than once every 30 seconds.

Notes
The stealth effect lasts for 3 seconds.

A related problem is the inability to occasionally drop aggro. Sometimes, I’m in a place where I cannot be hit, I am out of line of sight, but I cannot drop aggro. I think this affects all classes.

Regarding the pet slowing you down while running, try switching to “avoid combat” and see if that helps.

sometimes hitting escape a couple of times helps..

and if your mentioning things that seem abit off how about the physically impossible mechanic of arrows doing more damage the further they go… that just does not make sense… well it is a game but still

I forget the name of the trait, but the ability that grants you and your pet 2 seconds of quickness on pet swap needs some tweaking. When you swap, the new pet stands around for at least 1 second doing nothing. That one 1 second of pet idleness + the time it takes for a pet to run to your target means that the quickness applied to pets is ALWAYS wasted. It’s super irritating.

Whether or not it’s feasible, I have no idea – I know nothing about game design – but it’d be nice if, on pet swap, the new pet would instantly appear on the previous pet’s target. This would prevent the 1 second of pet idleness and eliminate the run time, meaning that the pet would actually get some mileage out of those 2 seconds of quickness.

This isn’t strictly a WvW issue, but my WvW build is specifically built around pet survivability and pet damage (to the detriment of my own damage), so I figured I’d drop this suggestion here anyway.

While I agree with you.. your fix would break the mechanic of when downed and pet is off attacking or dead.. F4 pet swap and downed skill #3

if the pet ported to where the last one was it would make our downed skill #3 even more unreliable..

i would be in favor of a longer buff on the pet..

Other people keep spouting on about LR but tbh I dont really need a “oh crap” button with my spec cus i out heal / out last till next heal quite nicely. and instead of traps i run QZ + Sick’Em to chase down or burst by surprise.. and QZ for me is a must for quick stomp/rez

I’ve just swapped out runes of the Dolyak for Rune of Dwayna

(1): +25 Healing
(2): +20% Regeneration Duration
(3): +50 Healing
(4): 5% chance to gain regeneration for 10 seconds when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +90 Healing
(6): When you use a healing skill, you and all nearby allies gain regeneration for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 10s)

the +20% regen duration and +33% from the trait natures bounty works very well together

I run a 0 /0 /30/ 20 /20 i dropped the pet buff on the BM tree for the +33% regen and protection for 5 secs combo in the NM tree

I have the shaman amulet for max toughness then healing and condition damage.

weapon sigil’s you want both + healing and +condi on diff weps if you kill with each wep you buffs on both

mainly you want healing sigil and the signet of the wild for a nice constant heal

I still think my current build beats trap regen rangers, they rely on traps mine has decent spike damage from my pet which can surprise them

also guard is very useful for pve when the protection on the pet is a great tool to have

Guard gives you 18s of 100% crit rate when used with the other stealth, and the other cats can still gain stealth you know… smoke field leaps, guard, etc. and i prefer to use Guard if i’m using a jaguar because it means that i have a longer duration for keeping him stealthed, thus longer crit rate

Hm, not sure what boosted guard ability you have, but my pets comes out of stealth as soon as they land their first attack when using guard. Do you mean your pets are still in stealth mode for the full, what, 10 seconds, even after they’ve landed an attack?

ONLY jaguars don’t come out of stealth after the first attack, a jaguar pet can attack from stealth and not have it broken (used to be all but that was stupidly broken lol), however when a pet leaves stealth their first attack is a crit, and in a jaguars case ALL attacks made from stealth are a crit as well as the first one after leaving it.

So if you use a jaguar pet Guard is a lot better than sick’em due to the sheer amount of time your pet is having a 100% to crit the enemy, and then if you have rending training that’s a bleed on each attack too, which just really makes sick’em significantly worse while using a jaguar.

Again, this is only for the JAGUAR! All other pets Sick’Em would be better (for offense), however they still will crit on their first attack out of stealth (unless this has changed recently, i haven’t noticed a change though).

using the jaguar pet is the only 6 second 100% crit in the game..

guard nets you 1 maybe 2 crits
so your pet stealths.. crits once.. unstealth no more crits.. from the skill guard

if you choose guard you get 1 – 2 crits and protection
if you choose sick’em you get 40% damage increase for 10 secs

40% damage increase for 10 secs or 1 maybe 2 crits and protection your choice

guard better foe pve
sick’em better for pvp

just tested, the protection stays.. but the stealth drops and doesnt crit 100% with guard.. also tested sick’em.. it has much better DPS just as i thought..
