I was expecting to see some discussion about new builds, specs, coms but all I read were complaints

I’m all ready to do some theory-crafting and testing but it was pretty depressing seeing my hero points at 0/400 with 0 specialization unlocked… Can’t do anything till I grind them out

Nah, it didn’t apply aclarity to self, only to nearby allies. 3x avengers were attacking every 3.5s or so (no boon duration or Improved Aclarity trait). However, accounting for this won’t be necessary if you’re in a full party since I’m pretty sure players will get priority and other avengers won’t get it.

I wouldn’t call it broken but rather “challenging”. Just have to aim with the edge, not the center.

I think frifox even did the math showing that replacing a mesmers phantasms with a frost spirit increased party DPS more than 3 phantasms.

To clarify, for frost spirit to be more effective than 3 fully buffed swordsmans your party DPS has to be ~70k dps (quite realistic with 2x ele during organized guild runs). On average a good zerk party dps will push ~40k and frost sprit would increase that by ~2.8k, which is 1.6 swordsmans. Basically, the higher your party dps the more valuable frost spirit is, to the point where in the high end it does overtake 3x swordsmans.

With HoT mesmer MAY become top DPS by feeding off other party members dps – through aclarity & quickness. Only time and in-game testing will tell, which definitely will come.

I kinda regret crafting Assassin gear for my new mesmer now…

Why? You should care about min/maxing your assassins/berserker gear when it actually matters – ie very organized speedruns and/or reflect bombs. In both cases Assassins wins, especially in the reflect niche. All other cases you technically “should” use berserkers but realistically the difference and value of your min/maxing by going berserkers is so small you won’t be able to tell a difference, even with a dps meter – we’re talking about 1% or less.

If anything, the only time you should “regret” getting assassins is when you shoot past 100% crit. And even then not always, it’s actually a good thing to go past 100% if your enemy is higher than lvl 80.

Fury being essentially infinite in party-based activities means Berzerker will always have the edge over Assassin.

Back when these two sets were mathematically put against each other, Assassins outperformed Berserkers in direct damage in fully-buffed situations (fury, banners, 25 might, etc) and Berserkers outperformed Assassins in under-buffed situations.

Some bearbow math:

5% damage taken = 20x increase in ehp.

Phantasm PvE hp is 5800. 20x that is 116,000.

Bosses hit hard, they don’t hit THAT hard.

Clones are 4,171 hp. 4,171 / 0.05 = 83,420 tankable “normal” damage. Now imagine this 83k hp beast in full rabid. I’m drooling just thinking of how much dps uptime that would allow me

Mes is a utility bot, no point in ranking dps. DPS varies from solo to group comp too much so there’s another reason to not rank. Furthermore, DPS does not decide how useful a class is in raids.

If your focus is still DPS then you can forget playing as mesmer.

GW2 does not need a DPS tool – go back to WoW or whatever game you use to play with DPS tools – this is a long dead topic for GW2

Seeing as there is always an active discussion on this topic, its far from being dead. And you may shove your assumption that people’s opinions on dps meters are based on their previous games away (GW2 is my 1st MMO so no WoWloving here and yes, I’d love a proper dps meter in this game).

Perhaps your personal combat log could be accessible via API.

This is the holy grail I’d LOVE to get my hands on. Either an ANet managed API (ie api.guildwars2.com/mah-combat-log.stream) or a local socket a 3rd party client can connect to and pull data from would be perfect.

DPS Meter shows only damage. What we need is Contribution Meter. Live meter during encounter or maybe just a static overview one after each encounter/raid ends.

And raids are and probably will be run by organized groups ie guild runs, and in guild runs kicks due to low “contribution” are extremely unlikely.

  • Burrows are objects, immune to condis.

CM

  • Whole dungeon is reflect heavy, a condi build has no place here.

SE

  • Barricades and the dredge cart are both object, immune to condis.

CoE

  • Alpha clears condis every time he summons tooth, ie every ~7 seconds.

Arah

  • Champ Entities are immune to condis.
  • Jotun is 100% reflectable encounter, a condi build is the wrong tool for the job.
  • Belka reflects, your projectile condi’s will apply to your allies and not the boss.
  • Alphard has ~ 90% condi duration reduction.
  • Brie, first 50% scale up power dmg only, you wont kill her with condis.

In all of the above cases, a power build has no issues as it doesn’t rely on condis, which is why I stopped playing a condi build in dungeons – got tired of constantly swapping gear/food/traits to power to avoid being a dead weight.

Math can tell only so much. Granted, the more variables your math accounts for the clearer picture you will get but almost always it’s still just not enough. There are enough serious flaws with going condi that Power build is the only realistic option left…. for now.

With HoT, my bet it on ascended power gear. Your condi gear can be left exotic simply because power benefits from ascended better than condi would – asc weapon strength (5% more dmg) applies only to direct dmg and has no effect on condi dmg. By leaving your condi gear exotic, you now can easily craft both Rabid and Sinister and keep them in your inv and use depending on your mood.

As far as ascended, I’d craft Berserkers. With the ranger coming closer and closer to the meta there will be a much higher chance you’ll run with one which means you will be getting Spotter buff much more often, and Spotter as we know more or less nullifies Assassins gear purpose by kicking you past 100% crit, as well as the 30% crit bonus vs. slowed targets which also will screw your assassins gear.

Looks like Mantra of Recovery charging doesn’t proc the runes, only when you use the Power Return. I knew the fix was too good to be true…

Noticed it by accident. Summoned a phantasm, swapped my zerk piece with soldiers and summoned him again. Checked HP of both illusions, the one I summoned with one soldiers piece had more health than zerk one. After a quick test, 299 vitality (full exo soldiers armor) increased phantasm HP by 885.

Trinkets and weapons have no effect. Haven’t tested vitality from runes (don’t have any) tho I did test scholars and the dmg modifier still doesn’t apply. Clones increase HP as well (625 for 299 vit).

Why wasting mimic when u can use healing signet? Much faster CD

If I require utility in the other 2 slots, probably. Otherwise, I save signet for cases when I need to re-summon either disenchanter or my 3rd dps phantasm after they die or get insta gibbed. Can’t predict phantasm deaths so can’t predict if I should blow mimic for re-summon or save it for later.

Dug up my old “math”. Those calcs included phantasm dps in the equation which is why BF was only a small dps increase over AA. I mistakenly assumed that my old spreadsheet excluded phantasm dps and the overall drop would be 10%, which once you do include phantasm dps is not the case.

Excluding phantasms (and assuming coefficients changed only for AA and by exactly 10%), using BF on CD is a now a 4.5% increase (vs 6.6% pre patch). The more phantasms you have the less that increase becomes. Basically, BF is a dps increase but only a minor one especially with the AA buff. Might as well just stick to AA and save BF for when you need to dodge.

If clone generation speed is too fast for balance reason, keep aa speed same as now but make it so if you already have 3 illusions out the 3rd attack of the aa chain instead of summoning another clone (and possibly overwriting a phantasm) the skill would simply execute faster and do bonus dmg, just like the 3rd sword aa.

So Blurred Frenzy is now a dps loss?

They were so stingy with the autoattack buffs, a 10% buff is marginal when mesmer mainhand sword is so far behind, and the fact that pistol whip is blurred frenzy on steroids

Last time I tested using BF on cd was somewhere around 2% dps increase over aa. 10% buff to aa will put BF into dps-loss category (unless used in place of dodging). I’ll re-test the new coefficients and attack rates tonight just to be sure.

  • Phantasmal Disenchanter: Reduced the attack recharge by 2 seconds. The attack from this phantasm is now referred to as “Disenchanting Bolt” in the combat log.

Disenchanter attacked every 4 sec with PH pre patch. Does that mean he’ll attack every 2 sec now? If so, that’s borderline OP… and I like it

Just a note though, Ineptitude is a double edge sword. Consider running by some mobs and then dodging their attack to avoid getting in combat… which triggers the trait and puts you in combat ;_;

I’ve come to hate that trait with a passion… :/

  • old thread: ~3.6s load times

ANet didn’t optimize their db good enough and large threads create unnecessary bottlenecks… and annoyances

Getting a buff and yet people are not happy.

Just tell Robert to remove the 10% buff. Problem Solved.

Imagine a whole village is starving to death, then one day you give them one loaf of bread. Is that a good thing? Yes. Is that good thing enough? Not even close. That’s what the sword buff feels like. It’s welcome for sure but it’s simply not enough to really change anything.

Play some aetherpath. Mobs there move from your attacks and sometimes even flank you. And all that adds exactly zero challenge. They are actually easier to fight since they end up moving more than attacking.
