Since you’ll realistically be boosting 5 people, your effective dps modifier is going to look more like +35k, so you could be doing literally zero personal dps and still be worth it.

I actually just pushed a new feature to the gw2dps specifically to aid us in answering questions like OPs – the thing will now show Personal and Party DPS values side by side.

Stand to the side, watch party dps. Join in and see by how much it increased. That will show you how much “personal” dps you are doing as well as how much is your contribution is, personal dps + party increase.

Let me put it for you in simpler terms.

- Anet made raids targeting specific hardcore playerbase.
- You want Raids to fit your playstyle preferences.
- Raids do not fit your playstyle preference.
- Raids are not for you, you are not the target playerbase.
- Go play something that does fit your playstyle.

Or, adapt your playstyle and complete Raids how ANet actually made them.

Talking about which… NA/EU version just went on pre-order, today. Though, I’d hold off till more is known about how the NA/EU version will shape up, specifically the “p2w” korean cash shop and the kind of pve content (not a fan of pvp).

Did ANet fix PH not affecting the Avenger?

  • Alacrity can be kept up 100% for the whole party with 3 iAvengers. This means ofc you included wich combined with quickness lets you charge AND cast a mantra of pain about 3 sec.

You have Improved Alacrity traited. Did you assume alacrity duration for allies coming from avengers at base duration or the +50% duration? It may be self explanatory but not long ago I made a mistake assuming allies got the 50% bonus too, which they don’t since trait affects alacrity applied only to you…

Half a year after the ban, after 3 weeks of trying anet still refuses to unban my old account. Their reply was, “no can do, but we’re ok with you playing on your alt if you want”. Guess that means it’s time to move on (but probably won’t, this abusive gf that is gw2 has too stron of a pull… sigh)

No, BF still is a DPS gain.

Compounding Power is a bad trait because a Mesmer’s personal damage is terrible compared to the damage phantasms do, which is not affected

Once you go chrono you’ll be pumping avengers for perma party aclarity, which are nowhere near close to the usual swordsman/duelist dps. Your personal DPS will be the bigger chunk of the dps.

It’s time to move on from Dueling

I’ll move on when it’s justified. Atm I don’t see that being the case.

Let go of your dependence on it and learn the power of pure phantasm-shatter.

I don’t have math on this yet but judging form my experience so far you’re too overestimating Chronoplasma.

Also, you left the synergy between Persistence of Memory and Chronophantasma off your Illusions list. For shame!

I intentionally left it out since that trait competes with Compounding Power, which is a very good dps trait especially where you can now actually keep your illusions out pretty well. And, I haven’t explored that synergy enough to judge whether it’s worth giving up CP.

Agree. Which strikes me suddenly whether aclarity and quickness are affected by Boon Duration? and whether a Power/Toughness/Boon/Condi Duration gear would be worth it for a mesmer “tank”. Throwing Condi duration for extra Vuln stacks and/or longer Slow, for example.

Boon duration only affects quickness. I guess Aclarity isn’t considered a “boon”, probably for balancing reason (?).

Phantasms dont die anymore so yeah.

Assuming all 3 are swordsmans. It actually may be worth sacrificing swordsmans ~2k dps for the Avenger, for more aclarity on the party. Wells alone can’t sustain aclarity 100%.

Drop Dueling and go with Illusions instead.

Dueling has nothing going for it anymore.

Dueling:
- about 50% vigor uptime
- 20% sword reduction = more dps = more active evades (even with aclarity)
- phantasm bleeds on crit
- Fencers Finesse
- perma fury at 75% or below

Illusions:
- 3% multiplier for each illusion
- 20% phantasm reduction
- Phantasmal Haste (bugged for avenger)

IMO you’ll gain more by going Dueling than Illusions.

Correct. Which is why pyro said mes does low dps – low personal dps. In which case whatever gear you run will not affect mesmers “dps” as much as other classes since mesmer “dps” is actually whatever the party is dishing out. By taking this approach, mes would actually be a very good “tank” since the aclarity/quickness uptime is not affected by your gear but rather your build, meaning you can still be an effective utility bot as well as keeping the boss attacks to himself.

Maybe in raids that may be necessary but in the current content, not so much. I ran a few dungeons with my chrono this week and all the time F5 was used for offensive purposes – ie doubling TW & well(s).

As a chrono you have 2 pretty massive dmg mitigation skills Sword #2 and Shield #4. One does nice dmg and other summons aclarity bot – both are great.

Chrono does low DPS? What?

From what I’ve tested so far (granted, not as extensively as pre-hot mes studies) chrono personal dps is quite low. If you consider the party dps gained through aclarity/quickness as chrono dps then yes, dps will be insane.

I guess you and that blade guy posting here share something in common shudder. I did post that we decided to use oldschool builds and setups for this run without elite specs.

You posted a video in a subforum where pve elitist reign supreme. That video displayed very non-elitist and arguably terrible-as-kitten gameplay. Of course you’ll be met with appropriate responses. What else did you expect… /facepalm

Shield is nice for running through packs of mobs without taking any dmg, of which new maps have quite a few of.

Personally I just run a staff build with chrono line for that 25% speed boost. Works very well, especially vs hard hitting mobs, of which the new maps have quite a few as well.

Many mob attacks were CD-less and weren’t affected by Power Block, so it was used only is a very niche encounters. The trait was quite useful against hard hitting bosses in dungeons where you’d coordinate defiance strips with interrupts. Now with defiance being a break-bar, Power Block got shafted down to the trash level even for those niche encounters – it’s useless.

Unless you’ll be fighting a boss without a break bar (ie Bjarl in CoE) then there is no real point in running the trait.

, Rune of the Ranger adds some nice crit damage and 7% extra damage if you have at least one clone out.

Unless this was fixed recently, illusions don’t proc the 7% dmg bonus.

Any class that focuses on burns is completely viable as condi dmg. Any class that focuses on bleeds is not.

Run whatever you feel does more dps because both sets are so close that in the end your “feel” would probably be the deciding factor anyways.

Assassins is “meta” because fully buffed it matches and slightly overtakes zerk dps. Juicy reflects are a nice bonus. Underbuffed zerk is preferred unless you value reflects above personal dps (~3% loss or so, been a while so can’t remember exact #’s)

I wouldn’t exactly call doing 7k – 10k dps, SOLO, less than 10s into the fight “tickling” by any means…

That’s the catch, we don’t know what Raids are. I saw a remark from those who beta tested them that each encounter would have it’s own “meta”. I’m going to assume that simply means some encounters will have hard-counters to specific damage applications, ie having insanely high toughness or being immune to conditions.

If gear is such important investment for you, wait till Raids are actually out. It’s too soon decide on “meta” for raids and best we can currently do is speculate, and basing your investment on speculations as we know is risky business.

Min/maxed pre-HoT way was quite simple – staff AA in melee while keeping 3 staff clones out for that juicy dps. Post-HoT, well I’m still grinding out my Chrono specialization so couldn’t experiment with any of the chrono goodies, so can’t say for certain just yet. Using duelists for power/condi hybrid is looking promising but I personally haven’t played with them yet since duelists are limited to single target and were very hard to keep alive, though with new 95% dmg reduction tweak that shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

As far as how to play staff, it’s so simple it doesn’t even require explaining but if you are still not sure, I have a few vids showing how (pretty sure many of you already seen them plenty but oh well):

That game has some serious graphics. But I heard there are no dungeons and devs are making it directed for casual play, is a korean casual MMO even a thing? Or is it the first haha

I did play on both KR and RU versions (not for long tho and not till the “max” level either) and while graphics are nice, the rendering engine is actually pretty bad. GW2 feels MUCH more polished.

I would consider BD a PvP game with casual PvE. There are dungeons and raids are being planned but they’re all open world and very different than GW2 implementation, so if you want something like GW2 then you’re out of luck, BD doesn’t have anything like it.

NA/EU version of BD is actually doing the Alpha test right now so we’ll start seeing reviews coming out very soon. I have my hopes up but from what I’ve seen happen to KR and RU versions, it doesn’t look good.

On a good side, imo BD pushed more game updates and new content releases in one year than GW2 in whole 3 years… so there’s still some hope
