Thanks guys.

I was just in a state of shoot-myself-in-the-foot-ness when i dueled with an invi user and i felt pretty stuKITTENpid running around… as they say:

layk a bebe! runnin roun’ mekin’ noise dun no wat tu du!

with my guardian. switching to scepter+focus to randomly cast places too. even got 2 people as backup since it was taking so long…. then he eventually got away.

Really was hoping that condition effects displayed though… like a moving patch of fire or blind. haha.

So, a pretty useless stat in other words?

Depends how you look at it… some people might see 100% MF = x 2 the bounty.

While others might see 100% MF = +1% chance to drop for rares.

whatever it might me… RNG screws us all.

Are there any means of detecting hidden units?

Not calling it OP or anything, but its just that its a practically guaranteed escape mechanism rivaled only by a ranged teleport (blink) skill.

I’m all for sneaky play, i just need confirmation to my question. I’m hoping for something along the lines of a “Maya Purple Card” back in the olden RO days that indicated the position of the invisible unit but still cannot be attacked directly unless AoE cast.

Haven’t tested, since most enemy invisible units intend on killing me then run away fast… but do conditions show visual representations on invisible units? I know for a fact that the invisible weapon guys in the Orr instance can be blinded and it is visible, something to that extent.

Removing the gear treadmill for even stat items.

There is only as much gear treadmill as you want it have.

Right now, my sights are on Rare stuff [yellow] because they are much easier to get and i only need 2 kinds… a MF set and a general usage set with the stats i find useful.

After that, i’m set.

If i want that minuscule benefit of going for exotic, then it’ll just be another goal. not like i HAVE to reach the pinnacle of min-max in a game that is more about team-play and (supposed~) gear-balanced sPvP… you know… unlike some other MMOs.

I normally just lurk, but the way you’re calling out this issue is pretty undeserved given that you’re talking about a blip of difference while assuming all players are just here to min-max.

While they’re at it, fixing the momentum of drop when using the leap from higher elevation to lower elevation would be aesthetically good. Right now, it seems to stop mid-air for a second before performing a normal drop. looks awkward. I might also just be feeling entitled since the momentum carry-over from the whirl to the leap is so flawless and i just want everything to be like that…

How does burning condition stack?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: gabo.6721

gabo.6721

Correct.

For the duration of burning, the highest burning damage source (condition damage) will take priority. if a 500 damage burn for 1 sec hits, then a 100 damage burn for 3 sec hits… it burns 500 damage for the first second and 100 for the rest.

I’m not entirely sure that the duration stacking mentioned is the right one as i’ve observed that the times don’t add, they overlap. so if you apply the 1 sec burn and the 3 sec burn simultaneously, the enemy will burn for 3 seconds only (not 4). need confirmation.

Some people seem to miss the benefit of a slow projectile… it clumps damage to a more sustainable group.

For theory-crafters, it works something like this:
1. You cannot, in theory, straight up tank
2. You cannot draw aggro forcibly
3. one of the likely factor of aggro is “proximity”
4. another factor which is “sure fire” is damage (as in it priorities units attacking) although i’ve seen one that prioritizes revivers and another for downed units, annoying as heck.
5. slow orbs means leaving a trail if bread crumbs leading to you.
6. ohnoes! boss CC! don’t worry, while knocked down or such, your orbs are in the air.
7. you pick up the hits after you get up.
8. run around and auto attack.
9. Better “sustained” prescence = boss thinks it has to chase YOU instead of others further units hitting it.

TESTED this impromptu on a boss. me, an archer and an elementalist. i recognized my inability to tank the champion mob so i switch to scepted/focus and run around. the other two DPS it down while i do all the aggro pulling (i’m a pow/prec build so not much survivability either). Worked out great! after a while… at the very least, there were no scrubs drawing unwanted aggro who’d soon be revive bait since i know how to run like a headless chicken.

Big baddie or strong guys that are hard to mob? Scepter for the kite.

What i think some people don’t realize with scepter is that the slow projectiles actually help manage boss agro when luring… i do this with enough efficiency that it makes up for not having any vit or toughness.

Just auto attack and run around in circles, popping the other skills upon cooldown. The slow projectiles make the lumping of damage more consistent rather than quick successions that break rythm faster… at least that’s what i noticed.

Progression and Crafting

in Players Helping Players

gabo.6721

Things all crafters ought to know:

1. Discovery is king. There is a logical mix to the materials, you just have to understand them. The bonus exp saves a lot of duplicate crafting for leveling.
2. The color in the creation panel (the one with the list of known recipes to the left) shows how much exp there is still to earn from crafting said thing. (things in red are “coming soon” craftable fyi so you can prepare the materials when you get there)
3. You CANNOT survive on fine loots you get exploring alone. This becomes particularly apparent when you try to craft gear for your level, which is the same optimal level for gathering fine materials of that level.
4. Tied to #3, you SHOULD use the TP to your advantage. Regardless how expensive you may think things cost, you will soon move out of that tier and get to a more comfortable plateau for crafting and earning coin eventually.
5. AVOID THE CRAFT ALL BUTTON if you are not flooded with mats. You must not create any more than 6 of ANY insignia. You would not want to make any more than 6 pieces of armor parts PER insignia you can create. Also avoid making all iron ingots when you might move on to steel soon (and other such movements)
6. The discovery panel will blur out the pieces that are not usable. pretty obvious but effectively it prevents you from wasting mats in the event you forget that you’ve discovered something already. (usually helps when you make all the junk insignias first then one part of the components and see which ones blur out.
7. do not expect a profit. seriously, people are not buying any less than the rarest stuff so expect returns only much much later.

All i could give at the moment.

Basically, will I lose 2 conditions or only 1?

I hear it stacks. no reason not to think that it does. In one of the builds i’ve read, it even couples that with using a signet removes a condition… so all in all, 2 conditions removed every 10 sec + 1 on command.

Also, i’m open to recommendations if they have any harder hitting builds they would like to recommend. How the Trading Post "Should" Work

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: gabo.6721

gabo.6721

Everything i want to say has been said.

I’m for the “TP is working as intended and doesn’t need to be changed.”

This i think could benefit the game though would be:

1. HIGHER TAX ON NOT-SAME-WORLD GOODS with a “total cost” message before purchases are made. This should help with hedging some of the over-supply.
2. NO LIMIT TO SELLING PRICE. i mean literally, let people sell 1s stuff for 1c if they want, let scavengers make the money.
3. SELL LISTING LIMIT AND EXPIRATION, since i’m sure treating the TP as an extended bank is by no means intended.

My reasoning is simple: “for as long as good green item sellers (and other such rares) price higher than vendor+1c, i know the TP is working as intended.”

I also found this to happen in the following situations:

Using the Virtue of justice when the opponent has low HP thus killing it within the next 1-3 blows

The first one is a bit weird, but practically a situation that you shouldn’t be running into often since burning a near dead mob is just overkill.

Trading Post underpricing

So, out of curiosity, what does everyone think the main factor is here?

I think its the same “greed” exhibited in the OP. There is a “money rush” and the time-value of money is too good to pass up.

Remember, under-cutters do so with the assumption that they’ll make the money NOW. Its like saying “Hey, you’re greedy, i’m greedy, i’ll at least grab my money ASAP so i know at least some of my greed will be satisfied rather than being left hanging like those selling higher”.

I’m actually monitoring the price movement of some items, trying to look for an opening to strike.

If they are “effectively” losing money compared to NPC selling, its a benefit to some other player and the seller paid a holding cost to use an overhead storage. A gold sink is a gold sink. Only thing i’d probably like to see is higher tax if the items have to travel across worlds thus giving priority buying to local goods, maybe something related to WvW.

Since ANet managed AH stats before, i wonder if they can manage average PVP population per class, KDR, and even average APM of the top 10 SPVP players of the class (when ranking comes along). That should give good insight for this question.

It comes to a point that you reach this awkward stage that leveling up makes you a bit weaker than your last level because your stats got adjusted downward (yes, even besides the traits and stacking gear stats).

To add to the discussion of maximizing, the trade off of crit to attack is:

200 atk = 1% crit

I already did the math…

Basically if you were willing to trade off some attack for some critical chance then balance it such that the atk you give up is less than 200 for every 1% of crit chance. Conversely, if you will decrease your crit chance by 1%, try to get at least 200 atk in return. ASSUMING 0% increased crit damage.

You may convert atk and crit chance to the corresponding Power and Precision attributes as their formulas will complicate it a bit.

Also, increased critical damage % will decrease the 200atk in the above equation. Recalculating is gonna bore me so i won’t do it.

I’m always getting aggro for doing X or while not doing Y

Everybody makes that claim…

There has yet to be a reliable basis on mob aggro, but fact remains that at some point everyone will get hit no matter the circumstance. (hence the quote above holds true in every discussion about tanking).

With no dedicated tanking ability, there is no trinity. everybody will be dealing as much damage as they can muster while the rest support… and everybody’s rolling around…

lyka bebe! runnin’ round mekin’ noys, dun no wat tu du.

… and try to make the best of what they can bring to the table.

I switched out my old CC hammer for a scepter + X for ranged damage… Better for when my guardian is feeling a bit beat up than CC. Nothing can replace my GS though.

Edit: there are “pull” moves though, like Guardian GS skill 5. Not reliable for getting aggro to yourself, but does lure mobs away from guys that can’t take many hits. Still doesn’t justify tanking though. _

Why can't I mail items to my other characters?

Situation (to be skipped by tl;tdrs):

I’m a working man. My brother is currently in between graduating and a first job. I bought the game and promised him 1 slot. He goes ahead and fills 3, not so bad since i’m only using 2. He wants to delete a character, i tell him to salvage everything and even store the silver he’s made. He doesn’t even know where the bank is or what a crafting station is (seriously, he just wants to hit things until they die). I log in on that to-be-deleted character to salvage and mail… can’t mail. i can’t find the bank or crafting station in Char Citadel. Time to go to work. don’t want to waste the still-precious-silver-since-its-hard-to-make-money on the character. He might just delete it without bothering with the transfer. So sad.

Its much easier to transfer stuff from anywhere if you can mail it to yourself instead of using the bank… then thinking back, there is a mini-pet that opens the bank from anywhere IIRC. Tempting… Tempting…
