So play perfectly every time and if you don’t and you end up getting chain CCed and killed, the problem is you and not bad game mechanics? O.K! Just like in real life, there are many awful things you might not experience but that doesn’t make those things a non issue.
I honestly think that people don’t even bother reading the full thread, and they just post after reading the OP message.
So whatever we try to say against the chain CC problem will go unheard, but I’ll probably use your paragraphs, and mine to combine another thread later down the road when I feel like bring this up again.
I was starting to wonder about that and I know there are others who have complained about this, I really would like this issue to be highlighted. For every action there is a reaction, one mistake shouldn’t open the flood gates for every other enemy to continue to deny you control over your character, you are no longer allowed to react. Overlapping knockdowns/stuns shouldn’t happen at all.

With the spawn rates and enemy density in some of this game’s areas, it’s really not that hard to find yourself fighting more than two mobs, not counting DEs. With all the factors involved (reaction time, energy, spell effects, skill cooldowns and general chaos, etc), you’re just not going to dodge/break those every-single-time and when that happens, you lose control of your character and you have to literally lay there and watch the damage roll in and you are given no chance to get up, dodge and recuperate. It’s not a sin to say it could use some improvement. It happened to us several times today.
I do not think profanity should be ban worthy but personal attacks and harassment are a whole other issue as one can be belligerent towards another using zero profanity. So what is this about, “bad” words or receiving nasty attitudes? I think there is a big difference between someone spewing insults and someone saying “Oh man, that was some crazy kitten!”.
“Swearing is childish” is not a fact, its an opinion, if you don’t like seeing it, block the person or use the filter. Everybody doesn’t think like you, and that will not change. You’re O.K seeing axes and fireballs launched into people’s faces but “harsh” words are too much.
Haha is it still that bad? I wonder how many, are like myself and haven’t even bothered with the final mission? Honestly, I speed through the story to get a couple levels to be able to keep moving through the maps.
Different looks, different stories and I think that’s about it.
@ Warjin
Was addressing Hantu not you, setting aside the assumptions, the condescending attitude isn’t necessary to press a point. And last I checked anyone with posting privileges can comment whether they’re for or against the original post, I don’t see what’s “wrong” with that. Moving on.
If they added an open world GvG warring system then that could work(like L2 or TERA), but with the current multi-guild system, that’ll take some thought(can’t change rep til war is over?). Maybe gain/lose titles or get some other stuff that do nothing to increase stats or modify the economy in any way. But those participating could perhaps still be susceptible to the problems that could plague a truly FFA GW2 environment .
^ You sound mad that you’re playing a PvE game.

- No one can transfer a character to this server type, and if you create a toon on this server type you can not create toons on the other server types (unless you delete all toons on the FFA server)

This is a selection of comments from the pro-ffa people in this thread. Having played for years on FFA and PvP servers all the while lamenting the popultion dearth, I can tell you that these comments are indicative of the majority of players that want such playtypes and are the reason that so many are against it.
To put it bluntly, the PvP servers always ends up being dominated by kittens, braggards and pseudo-bullies whose actions and demeanor actively discourage an influx of new players while simultaneously wearing away the resolve of any pvper not in the above categories.
LOL my thoughts exactly. But to be honest, I did have fun for a while in games like Lineage II, Age of Conan and those games had very ugly sides to pvp and I got tired of the drama as it just ended up getting in the way. GW2 wasn’t built with this in mind so I don’t think it’s as easy as plopping down a server for pvp and calling it a day, not to mention the culling issues, teleporting hacks etc. And a lvl 80 with traits, elites will mop the floor with a lvl 25 in a lvl 25 zone, sorry I don’t know how that one will work out. What will be the consequences? Can that person be a kittenbag then just port out? There will have to be significant changes to the game just for a pvp server.
I’m not seeing the LoD distance effect my fps at all and I can’t see it working, the world seems to render the same regardless of distance. Or is the “low” level of detail distance not low enough? Why isn’t there a view distance setting, one for ground cover/foliage or to turn off non party member spell effects? This client, even with lowest settings is running like a sack of bricks on machines that well meet the min requirements and something tells me this is part of the problem.
I stepped in for my first time ever in FotM out of curiosity and killed some Grawl and got one so I guess its really that random.
Since I go back and forth between toons, all my alts have the 8 slot bags, so they pretty much go to waste after upgrading.
Crafting, at this point is pretty much a money sink. I find myself having old inventory bags around after upgrading and I’m thinking it would be nice to be able to get something back. Leather scraps are worked into leather squares but I can’t get anything back from a pack that used ten of those squares. Not to mention there are other crafts that use these items as well, I’d be happy if it got back even six leather scraps which equals out to three squares.
But if you don’t want to go through the trouble to get a legendary, maybe you don’t rate a legendary?
I have to get this off my chest. This thread is a compilation of most of the drop rate complaints and findings (as best as end users can give) in this forum and we’re supposed to make another one? If you guys aren’t going to bother picking through this one then why should I believe you’ll pick through the new thread that will no doubt explode with replies? Pardon me for taking this with a brick of salt.
Or alternate color schemes.
Again, I really need specifics. I’ve never into this issue on the live server, or while testing, so I’d need to look at the exact spawn to see if anything odd is going on.
Hi, Jeffrey.
Thanks for actually checking in on this.
A place that seemed very broken to me was the camp in Brisban Wildlands, Hidden Lake region, just west of the Seraph Observers waypoint. The spawn rate there just didn’t seem right at all. Every time I went through there, all the NPCs—merchants and such—would be dead due to the bandits constantly overrunning the area.
Trying to keep up with them, and keep the NPCs alive, was impossible alone, and even a party of 5 (in the zone’s level range) was hard pressed.
This was not due to an event. This was normal spawn that I dealt with many times over the course of several weeks. Haven’t been there lately, but last time I was there it was still crazy, and way out of line with the rest of the zone.
FYI. Thanks for looking into it.
I was running through there like 2 days ago on my Ranger to grab the skill point and figured I’d stop and help the couple people trying to dispatch the bandits and perhaps I’d get to sell some junk to the merchants once we cleared it. We ended up having to haul kitten outta there. The NPCs were useless against the wave after a wave of bandits, especially since they’re revived with half health. Passed through there again and it was the same thing, just relentless and seemingly broken.
I think its common knowledge that Quaggan like teeth!
I’d like to see community feedback on this list, I don’t know if it’s intentional but it’s hilarity just brightened up my day!
Merry Christmas to you too!
-On the voice acting front, I think a lot of it was good, some of it was great (I love Tybalt Leftpaw!) but TheHernia, I mean Trehearne >.> was a let down. I don’t care that he was the guy everyone looked to for wisdom and all that other good stuff(even if he did materialize out of nowhere as I was playing an Asuran and had no idea I was going to be saddled with this seemingly random NPC), what bothered me was that his tone was so “matter-of-factly” throughout some pretty dire situations, like the words were just secreting from his neck.
The story got a bit shaky at some points to the point where I never bothered to do the last story mission and my Engineer has been 80 for at least 2 months.
-The craft system is a horrendous money sink that is not profitable, I usually love crafting but I had to stay away after I realized it punched a hole in my pockets.
-Like you, I enjoy playing a healer, and I find myself jumping on my Druid in that other game and signing up for battlegrounds more often. I can appreciate the whole, no trinity thing but it seems to be more damage centric then anything, sure you dodge sometimes but at the rate at which offensive abilities are spammed in this game and the respawn rates, trying to play defensively seems to be a waste of time.
Also as a side note, I would love to be wrong but this game doesn’t have a pvp match observation feature, which I enjoyed from GW.
I got those pocket sized Charr, toy soldiers I think. I was element switching, tried different skill sets but I was just too squishy. The Ranger (lvl 17) across from me didn’t seem to have trouble with his box and neither did the Warrior which is what prompted me to try again and again. It was such a bummer, I ended up closing the client. I think I need to comb through anything Ele related in the past patch notes because I felt like I brought a pillow to a gun fight.
So I’ve been back for a week, probably my third time logging in and decided to take my lvl 14 human ele to Diessa Plateau for a change of scenery where I saw a big mysterious gift box so I strolled over and poked at it, to my surprise 5 lvl 15 mobs jumped out and wailed on me good and proper. The first time it was kind of funny, I double checked my gear durability and tried a couple more times only to walk(well more like run) away unsuccessful and annoyed. Is anyone having trouble with this?
You can play this game and still not think its GoTY material. Personally, I don’t think it is.
So tell me how can a thread hit over one thousand replies with such an issue and there is no response at all, not even a single line of typical PR hustle? I’ve been watching this, and while many threads get rolled off the front page and into purgatory, this one has remained persistent. There are a lot of things broken in this game, it’s new and yes it has bugs, some of which are quite strange, but at least tell the community if it’s a bug or intended so people can make up their mind if as to whether they’re wasting their time. If it’s a bug, it wouldn’t put you out too much to say “Yeah, hang in there with us, it’s tricky and we’re working on it” and if it’s intended, it’s a really kitteny way to prolong the life of a game marketed to be sans grind. The silence is opening the door for a lot of speculation and most of it isn’t in the company’s favor.
People complaining they can’t steam roll all content.
You guys won’t be happy till everything is 1shot k.o. and you get free exotics for just a login.Infraction inc. But i really had to put that out there.
Nice straw man (or troll?)
Many DE’s are not soloable and they are also a feature of this game. When players step around so much of the game because they feel it’s a waste of time, and those who are there to partake cannot because there aren’t enough people about on a regular basis then there is something in need of addressing. Which, as far as I can tell, is the point of this thread.
As it is, for many people, the rewards probably don’t justify, the time spent, waypoint costs, and gear repair bills, especially for high level toons.
Thanks for the input guys.
@ Zerk
I suspect they have their hands full by just browsing this forum. However, on sheer principle, I won’t spend any more money to play GW2 when I more than meet the min requirements and still can’t get a general PvE experience of 15 fps on low. Hubby’s old laptop with a Core2 Duo 2.4GHz, geforce 9800 gtx is getting 25fps steady on low. If I’m upgrading, I’m gutting this case and getting a highend setup and I generally use Intel chips.
@ Kirito
Thanks for the info. I tried overlkittening when the game released, performance was still bad, improved some but overall pretty terrible considering the cons. I’d love your 40-60 fps.
@SolarNova
To me, ‘minimum requirements’ means playable but not pretty. I don’t think an fps hovering around 11-13 with lowest settings on most pve maps is playable and as earlier stated, my husband’s old laptop gets better performance and on his desktop its pretty good. Ignoring minimum requirements in my current situation is asking me to give deceptive practices a free pass and I won’t, not to mention I meet the min and then some, but I don’t think that’s the case here, I just think the engine needs work.
Some of the graphical features send performance plummeting like nothing I’ve ever seen in an MMO. I’d hate to come back with new hardware and still have dismal performance and I would like to have an idea of where this is heading.
I was wondering if any significant engine optimizations will be coming down the line soon. I’m on a quad core 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM and a geforce 260 GTX on Win 7 64 bit, OS and drivers up to date, cooling isn’t a problem and I’ve exhausted various tweaks and settings to no avail (that included the info in the merge fps thread). I’m struggling to get my fps in the double digits even on low and was only able to play on the hubby’s PC, and that’s running an i7 @ 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM and geforce 250 and it’s able to get 50-80fps easy on good settings(no AA+reflections+post process, high textures+animation+shaders+shadows, low to med LoD).
I know it’s my processor but I wasn’t expecting this, especially with what is listed as the minimum system requirements on this site. This, among other things, cause me to stop playing a month after release and I figured I’d give the game some time and I logged in today to find no improvement. I’m not the least bit interested in spending hundreds of dollars in hardware for one game, especially since people with machines that leave mine in the dust are having these problems as well. Are there any plans to make the engine far more efficient in the near future or is it a “what you see is what you get” kind of situation?
Hopefully you have a screenshot if you don’t remember their names
Well, it’s Risen territory.
You kinda expect Pact outposts to be constantly under siege and mobs to be aggressively defending it.
Yes, I do realize that, hence I said I appreciate the chaotic setting. I only mentioned the contested waypoints to bring home the fact that there is a lot of running to do and ultimately come around to my issue with the densely packed monsters with the crazy spawn rate and snares. There are now skill points that I can’t solo and I didn’t run into that til I started those maps.
In some of the higher level areas(Orr to be specific), the waypoints being contested is pretty common and I find myself doing a lot of running and stopping to kill every(or even most) monsters in my way is just too much (especially if I’m primarily gathering) so I usually step around or through them but that can become pretty problematic since some areas have such densely packed monsters in cramped spaces ( the fast respawn rate and chained pin downs don’t help either).
The Risen Acolytes seem to have an oddly large aggro range as well, and the other day I was crippled by a Risen Gorilla and it was set to last for at least a minute, is it intentional for a normal monster to be able to do that? The respawn rate wasn’t too much of a concern before and while I can appreciate Orr’s chaotic and menacing experience, I can no longer take on some veterans (champions are off the table for me now) because the seven monsters I killed to clear a fighting space are coming back in too fast. Is anyone else having a similar experience?
This is my first time posting here and I’m one of those people with horrific framerates, I’m lucky if I get 15fps on most maps, and this with settings as low as can be. I’m running a quadcore 2.4GHZ with 8GB RAM, geforce gtx 260 and all drivers are up to date, and while I know I don’t have the latest and greatest, this is supposed to be an MMO. I’ve never seen anything like this, this is especially bad since this game has been in development for so long. I realize its new but this is really testing my patience, I’ve seen many others complain about horrible fps even outside of these forums, some of which have hardware setup similar to mine or better.
