No one wants to be at a disadvantage simply because of a number slapped on their character so if the devs throw in bigger numbers, people will either suck it up and chase or quit, so that is exactly what wxp is, a grind, one that they made character bound. People want those guard stacks on their alts, they want that AC/balli/whatever mastery now throw the ascended mats in there and the reasons for defending evaporate.
Lively bunch in here
Possibly one of the most boring match ups in a long time. There was nobody to fight, except for unorganized pugs. If we met a group with equal numbers, they would just run away into a keep behind arrow carts.
I will say that i quite enjoyed trying to take back our garrison from DR on Friday, and enjoyed all of the GvG’s going on. Cheers to all of you.
I hope the rest of BP will decide to actually play the game, instead of taking the easy path to a boring victory in silver league. I hope you guys have fun stomping the worst servers in the game.
GG BP/YB.Transfers to bandwagon server -> complains about boring matchups.
My brain no understand.LOL BP hate continues on a stronger server then themselves. Stop complaining about Bandwagons or what not. SBI is a WvW focused server. Sorry to pop your bubble BP. You would have a bandwagon too if your server actually wanted to try and be better. GEEGEE
LOL what? ..I don’t even..
/facePalm
You can definitely solo as a Mesmer but since speed is not the Mesmer’s forte, you should consider building to trick and confuse your opponent until they literally keel over or stop pursuit because of mental fatigue.
Getting upscaled in WvWvW is pretty superficial, you can’t wear lvl 80 Exotic/Ascended gear and the matching runes/sigils and at lvl 20 you don’t even have an elite and probably only enough skill points to unlock a few utilities wich may or may not be useful to a viable build. And you’re a Mes, one of the slowest(if not the slowest) classes in the game and you’re not even high enough to trait to dominate or even annoy/escape.
Stick with a group for now. Of course since you’re upleveled you run the risk of annoying guild groups who are trying to avoid rally bait.
Anet is bent on making this game grindy. They conveniently caved to the content locusts and threw in ascended gear and now all of a sudden they grew a set and they’re putting their foot down with character bound Wxp? I will never buy any of your boosters.
I don’t care if there are players who think ranking up gives their character some kind of purpose, my characters’ purpose is to provide a fun time for me, ranking up is a side effect of the stuff I like to do. My experience as a WvWvW player doesn’t magically disappear when I switch characters so why do I have to seek out these skills again?
WvW = Army v Army, sorry!
Lol you would think so, but small man teams can do quite a bit for an “army”, or is it your thinking that is “Blob to camp”, “blob to tower”, “blob to camp”, “blob to camp”, “blob to keep”, “reblob to first tower”, etc..
Truth is, I’ve seen this happen. Some servers will have 60 people capping a camp instead breaking up into 3 groups of 20, even when they outnumber the opponent anyway.
The populations will never ever be balanced, who dominates the battle ground is whoever has the most people around the clock, period. People bought the game, chose a server name from a list that they thought sounded cool or their buddies were on and Anet said “Hey, let’s turn those random people into a team!”.
If the OP likes WvWvW, then my guess is that it’s not a constant pain train and they’re having fun so paying to transfer just for map completion is an awful option and it only highlights terrible design choices.
Beat BP a couple weeks ago so safe bet… doesn’t hurt that SBI has gotten a lot of transfers and about half of BP has checked out of WvW. I don’t think I have seen two queued maps in BP for weeks.
….
Haha I can testify to that. We spent the first half of reset night in sPvP bashing each others heads in then went strolling around the borderlands, messing with Monkey and ended up capping stuff in hopes of stirring up some fights. There’s a general feeling of “meh” about it all.
For this I side with Anet.
Rank 100 on a Warrior is NOT the same thing as rank 100 on a necro
How does this even make sense? Do you believe rank is a reflection of player skill? o.O
The explanation is that they want each character to have a unique progression path.
It doesn’t make sense to me either, but that’s what they said. The commander tag is because they want people to start to identify with good commanders. If you change from Commander XoraxLorax to Commander Fuzzybritches how will anyone know it’s you.
5 character parties is a holdover from dungeons. They did, at least, make squads.
Alternatively you could say the reasons are avarice, greed, and sloth (respectively). But, while I disagree with most of these decisions, I prefer to look at it more positively.
I hear what you’re saying about the commander tags but look at it this way, every commander was new at some point, people had to take a chance and follow that commander for him/her to develop a rep, good or bad. So it’s not really excusing someone having to drop yet another 100g when they’re the same driver just using a different skin. I can’t think of a good reason why it’s like this. And the squad system is weak(not 100g worth of features imo).
I do think Wxp should be account bound but have the skills be character bound. I thought I was done leveling at 80 but evidently not. They keep adding more hoops for players to jump through, and I find it annoying.
Yeah it’s pretty bad right now. To the point where you have to place the AC so its hanging OFF the wall and hovering in thin air. Is this what you wanted Anet? As an ele, I can stand on the ground and slam who/whatever is up top with meteor shower depending on how gauge the mouse on the outer face. Don’t get me started on dragon’s tooth, some months ago I didn’t even think it was legit lol.
Yeah, its always been strange that its easier for the attackers on the ground to attack UP at the defenders on the wall than it is for the defenders to attack DOWN.
And I’ve never understood why that 2 inch lip around the wall blocks you. I mean you have to jump up on the little tiny ledge to be able to aim over it.
that lip is very important to protect you from getting pulled off the wall. if you hop up on it you can get pulled down.
most towers have good places to put siege that make sieging it very difficult. cannons and oil are too OP to make them any harder to kill, but I think they should be faster/easier to rebuild when they are killed.
example in Briar tower if you have ACs and a catapult in the courtyard and a treb up near the ramp just out of AoE range, 5 people can hold that tower for a really long time against 20-30 enemies. Usually they end up having to treb from the vista or build some golems which takes time to do so even if you lose it you held it a few more ticks and any time 5 people are keeping 20 busy, it’s a big help to whatever everyone else is doing elsewhere.
the biggest #1 art of defending is scouting and getting there before its attacked.
I think Briar is probably one of the worst examples to use, since it’s so close to enemy spawn and depending on the matchup it could very well be paper and without siege the whole week. Even if its t3, 20-30 will just bomb the walls and dragon’s tooth the ACs on floor level. When those are gone, they can most likely hit the treb through the gap above the door with an AC or balli or something and curb stomp anyone trying to sneak in.
They said they’re not going to do it, even though I never saw an explanation why. But then again, why is a commander tag , something that is 100 gold a pop, character bound? Why are party sizes in WvWvW limited to 5 players? I could go on.
The game isn’t just unfriendly to alts, it’s becoming unfriendly to players period.
Every game, except this one, actually gives the players abilities that counter stealth.
SWTOR – Stealth Scan
WoW – Hunter Flare
DAoC – True Sightand, so on. Need I say more?
Anet has created a class w/ very little Risk vs Reward mechanic and the Dev’s who created this should be fired.
No no no, they’re just innovative :P
WvWvW will never be balanced, ever(I’d like it to, but the premise of it makes balance impossible). It’s 24/7 open world pvp/seige mode with a scoreboard slapped on it. I enjoy both good open field fights and high pressure sieges but strolling around the maps lately its been:
nothing
nothing
ZERG
nothing
nothing
“where did they go? this map is empt…oh snap!”
ZERG
nothing
nothing
nothing
“oh look there’s a group of them”
-they run into a tower-
“let’s try to take this tower, maybe they’ll come out.”
-AC starts firing-
“Oh kitten! RUN!”
ZERG
nothing
nothing
It’s tiresome to say the least. Very few wipe or win fights that were actually fun.
I’m going to be that kittenhead who says it(if someone else hadn’t already).
They had a good thing going in GW1, a set group of people per team were dumped on an instanced map and one team emerged the victor because they outplayed the other(s). There is no reason why they couldn’t have done that here, give the players options for 10v10/25v25 or 50v50 if they wanted to tout “epic” battles and whatnot, there could have been optional siege modes.
We’re told to “play the way we want to play” but looking at how defense stacks up against raw damage in GW2, I know that is bullkitten. Full clerics and food and still getting hit for 8k backstabs? Well, tough kitten. I’m fine with condition damage ignoring armor but some classes have low HP pools and you’d think they’d decrease condition duration or something by a small percentage every x amount of toughness. Top notch game design, they didn’t want a trinity but they pigeon holed players anyway.
I wouldn’t hold your breath. It seems like who we’ve been dealing with in this forum is a PR guy and not an actual dev.
Remove the AoE limit or at least increase it then I would have zero problems with zergs. Right now, if people are globbed into a big enough ball(big being relative) they can play pretty sloppily and win. Like keep rushing through obvious choke points or having 10 people break off from the other 30 to chase down 3 knowing that if it backfires they can just dive back into the zerg, etc etc. It’s so bad that the “zerg” could be a skill group and you probably won’t even know the difference.
I have a proposal.
We will cease complaining about leagues: if, and only if, Devon Carver agrees to do a weekly video announcing the results.
We further stipulate that he must act and sound genuinely surprised when a higher ranked server beats a lower ranked one. He should also give a list of reasons why the matches the proceeding week are interesting and the outcome is in doubt.
I want him to go on record, explaining how Crystal Desert vs Fort Aspenwood vs Jade Quarry is a competitive match and how it is anyone’s game.
If he is willing to do this, aka do to himself what he’s doing to us (insulting intelligence); then we can admit that we are all in this together and will cease pestering them on these boards.
Everyone please +1 to give this visibility.
Lawl! +1000000
…snip..
I don’t want to be told I won because of handicaps, I want to win because it was fair, and competitive. This isn’t pre-school I don’t want a gold star for showing up.
This is not the place to you know..make sense and stuff :P
I agree, I don’t care what a scoreboard says, getting hammered into powder at every turn isn’t fun or entertaining.
Do they win because they have more people? Yes. Punish them because they have more people? No. I’ve said it a thousand times, there will be no balance as long as its server vs server in a “persistent” world.
What does numbers on a chart matter when the underdog server is still getting mopped up on the battlefield? It’s still going to be a kitteny experience. What are they going to do to change that?.
Sooo when some random thief rolls up and smacks a door, I’m getting a sweet reward for doing a little jog around the keep and doing a quick check? Sweet!
@ Swamurabi
Every tactic a lower pop server can pull off, a higher pop can do it better if they chose to, there are no mechanics that help out the small guy on the battlefield, none. Roam you say? Ok, a handful of ppl from the underdog server can go roam and get rolled hard by the higher pop server’s “small man” effort because under that system, they will most likely have more of these groups and more people per group anyway. Arbitrary points mean little when you’re getting your face melted off at every turn. People get demoralized now, when the winnings are paltry and I doubt anyone on the higher pop servers are going to see this and say “Hey, these guys are getting so utterly steamrolled, I want some of that fun, let’s transfer!”. The losing server will just be that, the losing server.
I really don’t think this is going to work out for the NA side of things. The population difference between ranks 1-3, 4-6, 7-12 are huge. Considering how badly the random match ups have been under the new system, it should stick out like a sore thumb and you can see T2 cannot compete with T1 servers, T3/4 cannot compete with T2 servers. What’s worse is all the losing servers every week have been getting falsely boosted ratings, which has not let some servers settle into their proper places.
So have the league, but it’s a given, one of ranks 1-3 servers will be winning because of their population and coverage.
That’s making the assumption that points is the deciding factor in who “wins”. I think Devon and Anet are smarter than to put BG/JQ/SoR against CD/YB/BP and expect an even match, and that the players would “balance” out by wanting to move to CD/YB/BP. But if you have your change in Glicko rating be the deciding factor in who wins you’ll find that anytime a lower tier server goes against a higher tier server, the lower tier server gains rating or “wins with a handicap”.
The players have been complaining about night capping and being outmanned and out pointed and how it’s not a fun setup. With Glicko as a handicap instead of stat boosts, everyone is the same in the maps and you’ll find that the stacked servers won’t win if the league uses a Glicko handicap. Look at Milennium scores for the past weeks, lower tier servers gain rating when matched up against higher tier servers. This would cause those players to rethink why they want to be on a server with queues 24/7 and in game lag and all they get in return is 7th or 8th place finish out of 12.
And then the people on those high pop servers would complain to no end alongside the players on the low pop servers who are getting steamrolled on the maps anyway. Anet knew off the bat how imbalanced WvWvW was and tried to play it down with marketing spin. Even if guesting had been working from launch and transfers were never free there would still have been major population problems especially with how attractive GW2 can make 3rd party RMT.
Whats here that couldn’t go into the match up thread? o.O
Please keep capping stuff btw
I’m not on any of these servers…
I see. Oh well, I can’t tell you what’s right and wrong.
You know what’s not wrong? Justice.
You’re just kinda making yourself look stupid and that was pretty low. Talking about about server numbers and general tactics isn’t “talking crap”. SBI does have bigger zergs, SBI did get large guild transfers. Did the bare mention of this hit a nerve?
Because we’re all unloved kittens and Anet doesn’t have the heart to say it to our faces.
Yeah when you see yourselves getting a bum deal don’t complain! Kitten me, some people I swear…
I wonder if Anet has really thought about people quitting GW2 altogether? I’m already hanging by a thread with this whole Ascended mess and if WvWvW goes even further down the kittener then I’m gone.
- Cheap and tradeable siege blueprints
- some servers run constant 40+ man zergs that can build/transport/man/defend A LOT of siege(Omega rush anyone?)
- 40+ man zergs shrink the maps considerably
- unupgraded structures are a joke and don’t scale in any way
- zero reward for scouting/guarding(and if you’re upgrading something, you’re going to try to protect it so it’s a lose/lose situation and “you’re taking one for the team”) not to mention the pathetic 1h despawn on siege.
- upgrading is far more expensive and time consuming than attacking
- defending from the walls is terrible, people can just walk up the the structure and use their hand held weapons to destroy wall siege(another joke!).
And they want to turn this into something “competitive”? Quaggan please!
What? Some people don’t buy into the meta of hating someone else because an arbitrary division has been created between them that in reality comes down to a few bits different in a server somewhere?
FOR SHAME!!!!
It’s a game. Please keep that in mind when being all fanatical.
I wasn’t aware people “hated” other people for being on different servers. I think some forum trolls rub others the wrong way but that’s something different. I don’t know if you’re joking or just overreacting.
When the WvWvW players are done with The Living Farm, they’ll stock up on golem blueprints. The maps are already too small for 50+ man zergs, throw mass stealth, portals and cheap siege in there and there is a problem.
I’m scared for WvWvW…..>.>
So do 4 leagues in NA. This eliminates the enormous population difference from server 1 to server 12 and 13 to 24.
If you really think the server that is ranked 12th at the start of this stands any chance against the top servers you are delusional.
I never said they did. However, I’d argue that they do in fact stand a chance against the 6th ranked server and the 5th ranked server. We are not trying to only ever match you up against your closest comparable server. That was what was happening with the system before and it was bad. If you are saying you don’t ever even want the chance to try and show your skill against a higher ranked server, then I don’t know what to say.
We will continue to look into ways to change scoring to try and even out some of the population based imbalances, but that is not an easy task and it won’t happen during the season.
WvWvW is a game of pure population and coverage and that is reflected in the rankings, so the notion of “testing your skill against a higher rank server” makes little sense. And now you guys are rewarding this even more. Skill has zero to do with it. What the undermanned server will get is “a chance to not want to play WvWvW for the week(or season or whatever)”.
LOL those screenies are hilarious.
It’s hilarious because its a sure fire way to get focused. There was one guard on SBI that was a kitten to bring down but we made sure he went down in flames >:D.
1. If Anet takes it upon themselves to start moving players around, there will be broken communities and generally unhappy people, some of whom would probably just quit GW2. Also, this will have to be a regular occurance to avoid “stacking” as people come and go from GW2.
2. There is zero incentive to move to undermanned servers and the same goes for actually playing on one (the buff is a joke, and no other mechanics help out the small guys, none), I can bet my last dollar that players would rather suck up the skill lag and queues instead of opting for being on the receiving end of a constant steamrolling.
Server populations are arbitrary and basing who wins off that was really really stupid. As much fun as some of the actual fights can be, WvWvW is based on a horribly shortsighted premise.
Ah the digital age, isn’t it wonderful. Drag an image from a browser to a folder and you’re in business. Seriously, that individual needs to be taken down, sometimes I really have to wonder what kind of soulless broken human thinks its fine to do something like that. Reminds me of that guy that was selling themed wallpaper discs with work he pillaged.
There are times when you have an individual, like a teenager, who doesn’t understand the law. But ignorance isn’t a defense to breaking said law either. Sometimes life’s lessons are learned the hard way.
Oh yeah I remember doing dumb stuff as a teen but I’m having a hard time believing someone who can go through the necessary hoops of Paypal/Money orders/ cashing checks etc doesn’t have even a passing awareness of copyrights, I mean the stuff being sold there didn’t exactly fall out of the universe and onto the internet. Or maybe that’s part of the problem, because it’s online means it belongs to nobody(?).

Since we’re here to entertain ourselves with the offering of ideas that we know Anet doesn’t give two rats’ kitten about, I’ll put my two cents in. How about NO ASCENDED ARMOR . That’s right, they’re already throwing embarrassing amounts of time gated nonsense and RNG at us (which I have no doubt will be involved in acquisition of said gear), now the game they touted as “innovative” is going down the same road of every kitteny MMO that I’ve quit because I abhor gear treadmills.
It’s clear they weren’t satisfied with what GW1 gave them, but what’s best for Anet isn’t best for me.
I’ve been fighting longbow Warriors on my Mesmer, they die easily even when they had help and their help hurt more than they did…soo I guess they were playing it wrong? The damage seems to slow for what they do per hit.
Ebay isn’t even in this matchup, who gives a kitten.
But then the matchups will become stale and we’re back to square one.
Ah I forgot about those, nice catch(don’t know why they put WvWvW badges in chests, when it’s easier to get AP in PvE :/ ).
The only thing PvE focused players need WvWvW for is map completion and if they want legendaries, then they need the badges too. Other than that, no, not a single thing.
I have. You’re going to need to do WvWvW to finish it. If you’re on a weak server, you’re gonna have a bad time.
I think that goes both ways. Yes there are people who won’t even help a downed player who isn’t even in a danger zone because they would rather spend those few seconds spamming damage. However, in the Queen’s Gauntlet for example, where the waypoint is just seconds away, players would be fully dead and will sit there and wait for someone in battle to res them. So one can say that the narrow channels for generating gold in GW2 spurs greedy attitudes but my god it does the same for downright laziness. And neither is good.
