People don’t defend because it’s an uphill fight to nowhere.
1. Most attackers don’t try unless they can blod the structure down or take it practically undefended*. Plus siege gets stronger and structures do not. It’s a kittening joke.
2. Due to the scoreboard being totally dependent on numbers, PPT is and will a joke to many players.
3. Anet added a nice little power creep, now people want ranks and ascended mats. See point 2.
And this is why people don’t give a kitten about defending.
To the original post:
“Achiev Points and Seasons have made it…”
…into an extra mega fun obliterating zergfest. You can’t do bo diddly without a frame/ skill response rate killing blob jumping on you (and I’m not even close to being on a T1 server mind you). Grats Anet. Success?
Did someone really just say GW2 has “elite PvEers”? Oh forums, you keep me young.
I do the temple zergs for dragonite. I personally do not find them fun and am almost certainly taking the place of someone who would enjoy it more than I (our temple zergs frequently overflow).
That’s not a good thing.
But but Anet thinks you should do it. Do it til you like it! And tell your friends about it!
:P
nice how many times defending sm will it take me to get some dragonite?
0. There is no achievement that requires defending SM.
Yes there is.
Ascended amulets and rings are both cheaper in WvW than in PvE.
Someone might more readily have the gold rather than the account locked stacks of badges needed per piece so that is arguable.
Badges of honor.
Unless they now drop outside WvWvW then I don’t see how this even counts, last I checked they are a WvWvW specific currency that strictly PvE players can’t get (which is I think they doled them out in that achievement chest).
The rewards included in season 1 achievements should help to address this. Very specifically the ascended crafting materials. It is also the case, that we want people playing all the parts of the game, so there are always going to be optimal ways to get specific rewards and those may not always include WvW. We are building the whole of GW2 and we try and balance things across all the game types.
We will continue to make strides, however, to make WvW feel more rewarding, especially in this type of area.
I’m curious if you can name one thing achievable in WvWvW that isn’t faster and more abundant in PvE?
The immobilize did stay after blinking. You’re best bet is using decoy then blinking so at least they lose target and the couple seconds of stealth will probably save you from taking some damage. I think making something like immobilize stack isn’t a good idea and makes this damage heavy combat system even more “spammy”.
Oh yeah, these videos. Apart from the inaccessible camera angles and the highly orchestrated scenarios, I’m seeing certain skills being used back to back to make the combat seem like something it isn’t. This game taught me one thing, don’t pre-order.
LMAO Oh God this is comedy, even though I haven’t been in since patch I honestly wouldn’t mind dying a couple times to something so hilariously broken.
If they add an actual GvG arena, the WvWVW maps would probably be overtaken by tumbleweeds.
They’ll change it “soon”, and by soon I mean Anet “soon”. I don’t even keep track of WvWvW achievements (seriously, what would be the point?) or even ranks for that matter, they’re so bent on keeping players busy that it’s sapping the fun factor in a major way. Meanwhile, I can talk to an NPC for the latest Living Farm and get an achievement.
I don’t play much sPvP but I do WvWvW a lot and they have very little options in the way of builds and I’ve only seen a few who can truly hold their own. For some reason I see some glass canon Rangers running around and it just saddens me that they don’t realize they still don’t have the damage that’s worth that sacrifice anyway.
If they gave guards and mesmer 25% movement passive, then this wouldn’t be such an inconvenience. I mean 6 classes got one, any reason why the two got shafted?
Because this is GW2.
Seriously though, I would like traveler’s on my Mesmer because:
1. I hate the focus with a blazing passion
2. I’m tired of bumming speed buffs off guildmates and random people
But I refuse to pay these ridiculous TP prices. The halfkittenedness of some of GW2’s features implementation is really starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth.
I don’t blame the players because that’s what it is when Anet designs a mode where players are reduced to pandering and server level recruitment and long hours to massively bolster numbers for wins or even just be “competitive”. Those servers that can’t compete will hemorrhage players that other servers will try to slurp up and it’s a never ending cycle. And to whoever got sensitive when SBI was called a bandwagon server, well sorry but that’s what it is, you’re not the first or the last so lighten up lol.
For the most part no, as an up leveled character you have very little chance against a geared and savvy level 80 unless you’re level 60+ geared and uncommonly skilled. There are 80s running around with bad gear, bad trait choices, bad skill chaining, no food, not dodging etc, and you might be able to kill those even at level 30.
I see so many threads every week trying to make this broken system of pitching massive amounts of random people together in an around the clock three way fight work. On four maps no less.
“Strength” in WvWvW means numbers, and nothing more. Numbers that could be affected drastically by many variables and no matter what you do, populations and thus servers will never ever be equal in “strength” so let’s not start off on that false premise.
One way you have complete blowouts where sometimes even these so called alliance forces that people like suggesting are outnumbered anyway. Or some servers might put up a good fight with commanders working in shifts(and I do mean working) but let’s get real, they weren’t going to “win” anyway.
The other way you have run of the mill matches until there is a burst of transfers or people leaving GW2 then then everybody gets stuck in lopsided fights until the system adjusts.
It is not a well thought out mode and would require radical core changes to be balanced.
What would work though, is instanced large scale GvG(or alliances) across all servers.
…..
As far as I can tell, the people who want to keep ranks character bound are those who are mistaken, like you, on how rank works, or who don’t play alts and wish to maintain their advantage over alt players. ….
Emphasis mine. Precisely, Anet has hidden a power creep behind ranks with the guard stacks and and many will whine about imbalanced pvp while crying down account bound ranks. I’m not going to spend money to be competitive so I’m not buying boosters nor am I grinding to catch up. I log in to relax, hang with fun people and have a good time not work.
I wonder what people with terrible frame rates think of jumping in GW2. I know before my upgrade I was getting borderline slide show performance on any give PvE map(some more than others) and timing my jumps only resulted in violent thoughts.
Harm. Power Creep. Grind. Character Bound. All bad.
plus kittening one sir!
Report it..like others have been doing for months…. :T
Gut the server system and replace it with a guild alliance system. Guilds would be grouped together based on alliances, typical play time, average play duration, overall ranking and some randomness to keep the matches fresh.
Each week 3 groups of guilds would face off. This would help even out population, and coverage as well as create fresh matches every week. The WvW scoreboard would become a Guild scoreboard for bragging rights. Rewards would be based on how well a guild alliance does in the match up.
If someone can pluck a hole in that system (aside from the work necessary to do it), I would like to hear it.
I’ve been saying this for a while now. Server vs Server vs Server is a bad idea that has no hope of balance and a score handicap won’t change the undermanned server getting rolled kitten the field. You can’t just slap a scoreboard on open world pvp and not expect major problems.
If it were GvGvG or alliances then if you lose, it’s most likely because you didn’t have your kitten together. And since guilds are cross servers, population will be a non issue it would be a matter of guild maintenance. However, I’m sure GW2’s multi-guild feature would cause problems with this somehow, ugh.
It could have been instanced GvGvG (or alliances if a guild doesn’t have a large roster) battles. Guilds could be cross servers, 20vs20vs20 or 50vs50v50s or whatever and different modes for those who like siege and those who enjoy death matches. They could unlock guild/rank skins or even buy some from the cash shop. Even siege skins they can activate like finishers. People already have to concern themselves with maintaining guilds now with this silly system they’re recruiting at a server level too(personally, I don’t know how they stomach it).
Right now, the BPvsCDvsIoJ match is close, but I’ll tell you now, while it’s a nice change this will eventually turn stale or get completely borked by transfers. It’s a horrifically flawed system at it’s core.
No thanks, look what happened with badges. They doled them out in achievement chests by the hundreds. The kick in the kitten is, its way easier to rack up achievement points in PvE than WvWvW, and badges are a WvWvW currency :T
Nah, they were too busy adding a LFG abuse option, whatever that means. :P
How are the ruins nice against blob power? They give you a spot to maybe move around the zerg, that’s it. While you’re sitting in a circle getting nothing but probably a sporadic ganking, they’re sitting in other circles inside your towers and keep and getting sweet loot too. It doesn’t stop the zerg, it doesn’t even slow them down lol.
I think Ascended gear is a bad idea, PvE doesn’t need it (why couldn’t you just infuse your gear for agony resistance like GW1) and WvWvW sure as kitten doesn’t need it. And guard stacks on top of that, they added an insidious power creep.
I have a few ascended pieces on different characters so using laurels for this is out of the question as I don’t always get to do dailies. This is the kind of kitten why I’m not spending another cent here.
“WvW is unbalanced” is them covering their tails from the marketing bullkitten. They knew just how imbalanced it would be and what that meant for players, but it was better to use PR double speak and turn it into buzz.
I’m not holding out much hope for any semblance of balance because the premise of WvWvW is flawed at it’s core. They could have implemented massive 3 way battles without using something as arbitrary as server participation. Then slapping this on “persistent” maps along with a scoreboard just compounds the problem. It was shortsighted to say the least. Tossing in a power creep doesn’t help either, for many it’s more attractive to hop on the train for ascended mats and wxp than it is to upgrade/defend/scout and generally give a kitten about their server’s holdings.
As much as I despised the Krait infestation, I prefer the lake over the new nodes, the whole borderland just feels jammed up and clustered now. Bleh. I prefer the open feeling the map had.
To all the people upset and calling this thread is a lynching. I hope you realized this is waaaay beyond a single Anet employee(he messed up, I don’t think he should lose his job over it though).
If anything, it brought out the growing resentment about the state of WvWvW and the absence of an actual GvG mode. That is why it’s 20 odd pages long.
I second what Courin has stated and would like to add my own confirmation to what she said.
The Anet person in question is one of the most dedicated, passionate people I know when it comes to this game. I mean, I’m super dedicated to the game and he honestly puts me to shame in comparison.
Having had the pleasure to play the game with him and get to know him I’ve been watching this thread with horror because he’s literally the last person to deserve to be dragged through the mud. He’s a lovely, kindhearted and fun person that I’m honored to know and people in this thread are making complete incorrect assumptions about him.
…snip
There is your account of this person’s personality and then there’s the video >.>. Granted some of the comments went too far in my opinion. But if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, its a duck. This person was acting like a kittenhead and they got called on it, as they should.
Blob league, zerg league, and nobody’s playing league.
LOL too true. I just know I can always find comedy on this site. Ty
This is ridiculous. The design choices at the base of WvWvW and subsequent managment seemingly didn’t take human nature into consideration. People usually want to be on the “winning” team and will take the path of least resistance. I don’t blame players for leaving for what seem like greener pastures. You’re mad because your server dried up(or queued up)? Tough giblets, don’t blame people for not “toughing it out” and being patriotic when they’re just looking to entertain themselves and avoid some of the fun obliterating issues this game has.
Ahm, ok so i checked the vid and i can see the amount of insulting – coming from the players – starting with “just let the kittenes in the middle die” and continuing by calling him a kitten and telling him to play somewhere else.
Once again – you were insulting him because he wasn’t playing the game based on your rules.I was working in an ISP center in the past and I must say it.. You people are the kind of ppl that the whole company laughs at.
Here we go again, someone who cant see the underlying issue. I have one thing for you to picture though, how are THEY supposed to play the game when the DEVs implement a crappy matchmaking system that resulted in them steamrolling their opponents?
It’s not about being the best, it’s about doing the best you can do in any given situations – if you didn’t learn that in your life then i don’t have anything else to say to you
Yes they are trying to make the BEST of a CRAPPY situation. We already know they are a hardcore wvw guild on SBI that dont always GvG, meaning they are doing this for fun because, SHOCK, its a blowout! They are already ticking 500+ with an unbeatable lead. They finally got some like minded players from another server who also obviously agree the matchup is over and who probebly want to make the BEST of their OWN crappy situation.
So yes it isnt being about the best, its about them trying to make something out of the lot they drew. If you dont understand that, I have nothing more to say to you.
I like people doing their best to make things better- but i don’t like people that start insulting others if they don’t follow their own rules.
The whole issue here was – the so called “good guys” were kitten talking the gm and kept doing so even after he showed the badge.
Employee or not, as soon as you start insulting someone, it goes to a personal level and every employee have the right to react to that in his own way.
Even if he was standing there – he was playing his game in the way he wanted to play it – even if he was a kittenbag, he played it as he wanted to. He wasn’t breaking ANY rule at all – he was just annoying. That’s not rule breaking. The problem here is – you guys think he’s the bad guy for doing the same exact thing as you did. You were both playing the game how you wanted to – regardless if it was meant to be played like that or not.
The employee in question walked into a space that was being used for a face off. If I saw two people dueling and decided to drag a bunch of random mobs into their fight because that’s the way I wanted to play then I can’t get hurt or even surprised if I get called a bad name or two. No one else but him was standing right in the middle and and a call to went out clear the area prior to the private message but he decided that didn’t apply to him (gee I wonder why?). The guy was being a kitten and being on Anet’s payroll doesn’t give him a free pass to “react in his own way” (what company allows that btw?). You struck me as a jaded customer rep and I was right lol.
I wonder, is there a cut off for transfers due to capacity or….anything?
It’ll never change as long as ANet keeps putting PvE rewards in WvW.
Normalizing WvW like sPvP would be a good start to get rid of all the PvE scrubs. Tripling the size of the WvW areas and removing all waypoints would be a good start to eliminate zergs.
However, seeing how most WvW players today are actually nothing but karma train runners who suck at PvP, these changes would empty WvW in a heartbeat.
To fix that, we could forget server wars and just fill each area as people show up, randomly (obviously favoring your guild/friends).
You mean like GvG and alliances and such? There was a game like that where players did that for years…I can’t think of the name…Someone help me out here. :P
OP, if this is a troll thread, then you got me. If you’re serious then I have to say that is a load of bullkitten. WvWvW matches are often sadistically imbalanced. I guess the middle school football team facing off against the Pats should learn to concede :T
At this rate, it’s just a matter of time before a mass exodus, because it often just isn’t worth it or fun.
I wouldn’t hold my breath for any MMO not to ooze their way down the same path.
It was quite freeing to stop caring about PPT and upgrading stuff for kind of some vague team. Now I run around with guildmates picking fights and having a great time. I ’m not loving the wxp/karma trains, whether they be friend or foe.
Defending is an uphill struggle to nowhere. Once I realized how the game worked, it sucked all the fun out of that. And they keep making seige stronger while leaving structures the same lol. But hey, E-sports!
Why do people keep using this same tired argument? The decision to make it character bound is what’s being questioned, to come back with “but its character progression” doesn’t make much sense. And comparing WvWvW ranks to starting a new class with different skills/new personal story/probably new race(see story) is equally problematic. Every class/race can solo/zerg/siege/repair just as well to gain ranks so how is Wxp showing character progression? Also, why don’t I have to start over in sPvP? If someone’s “fresh 80” comes in with guard leech, what is that taking from you? The player put in the time for that. And if by “work” you mean grind out even more of the same stuff? Thanks but no thanks, some of us like having fun without living here.
Welcome to being Don Quiote. How does jousting at windmills feel to you? My main contention with WXP and Ranks is the idea that they went from minor (1-5%) increases, to stuff like Applied Fortitude and the like. And here I thought the “progression” from Ranks/WvW Abilities wasn’t supposed to be imba, merely a sub-specialization …
This has been a major issue for me, they hide stat boosts behind rank and with the growing realization that the scoreboard is a bad joke, more and more people are going after these stacks. This is part of the reason why the Wxp blobs will continue.
Since all I do in WvWvW is roam with guildmates and we generally tap on stuff to draw out fights, switching up characters isn’t problematic. If I stilled really cared about defending and PPT then it would be a different story. The “play your way” bit is nothing but tripe at this point.
People QQed about not feeling like Billy Badkitten after hitting level 80. You wanted something to do? You got it! Progression must be vertical after all right. I can just see the amount of people burning out and not coming back.
They should not be… IMO the server concept for WvW shouldn’t exist at all. As to why, my guess is because it was the easiest to implement.
Thank you!
I know they’ve been nerfed but I know a couple of pretty scary D/D Eles
Then it sounds like you guys need to go back to the ol’ drawing board on this mode called WvWvW you’re trying to peddle. Massive fights and AoEs capped at 5 targets is just awful from my perspective, especially in these constant lopsided fights you’re throwing at us. This is why people use ACs like there’s no tomorrow.
What ticks me off is just switching maps alone is enough to lose ownership of siege you built, I understand golems are a different story though.
I think WvWvW stopped being end game worthy when they started really blasting it with vertical progression. Forget about getting comfortable and facing off against others, now so many people are focused on gearing up their character(s) yet again. Fun fights are getting fewer and fewer.
funny enough they do have anet employe running with sbi in wvw on regular basis
Really??! Can you see Anet dev tags on opposing servers? I’d REALLY like to show him/her my appreciation for the direction Anet is taking WvW — over and over and over again.
Yeah you sure can, it’s a bit of a bullseye to be honest, people will literally run through zergs to get em. You can find them in sPvP too.
