Just some critique.
I think the editing needs some work, maybe chop in some visuals reflecting what you’re talking about(weapon sets, pvp, dyes, armor previews etc), I think it’ll make the video more interesting because you have a lot of competition after all.
Note: For some reason the video looked really dark.
…There’s no gamble to using stealth right now, because failure is still acceptable. Making it so that a failed stealth attack still drops you out of stealth would make stealth a greater gamble in combat, and would force you to choose your opportune moment to strike instead of just spamming your stealth skills mindlessly as many thieves tend to do (especially in WvW).
Thank you. If the attack fails, the thief shouldn’t get another free chance. Stealth was even promoted as something that shouldn’t be a crutch and right now, it’s exactly that.
More WPs would be nice but that would cause major issues as everything is up for grabs in WvWvW and if you put them in the open, then you’re asking for people to be camped and we’re already dealing with invisible players and people using teleporting hacks. Zergs will get around even faster and the team with the most control would have a crazy advantage.
More dmg for outmanned players probably would cause issues, there are players that hit hard enough without that.
I play a Ranger as well, stuck at 98% map completion, ran around the world for the sake of running around the world, gotten exotics with pleasing skins, (don’t care about ascended or legendaries), leveled different crafts. I log in for say an hour of WvWvW at most then a looming headache forces me to logout. I can’t level yet another alt, I just don’t have it in me because I know what I’m facing soon as I hit 80.
The experience has its fun aspects but none of it goes very deep, especially the combat (I miss skill capping and making crazy builds that may or may not work).
Check out the patch notes for Jan 28th in the “News and Announcements” forum.
Personally, my culling issue has only gotten worse.
Just tell them that you would like to help, but have no money to spare.
Mention the Claw of Jormag destroyed your home and you have a wife and two little kids to look after.
Ask them what is to become of you and your family.
Hitting them with RP on a non-RP realm usually has them quietly backing away.
That was hilarious, had to +1 that lol.
Haven’t seen any begging here, at least not like in Lineage II.
Edit: Fiennes, that’s just mean haha.
1. Yeah they did change that with the latest patch. It forces people to reason every move instead of rez rushing. For inexperienced/uncoordinated groups this could be frustrating I can imagine.
2. If the party leader leaves, the rest of the group gets kicked from dungeon.
3. A lot of people relocated to winning WvWvW servers, some did it to finish map completion, especially when they were not only free but also at one point very fast. Not to mention FotM herded a large portion of the population into instanced content via Lion’s Arch. There have been countless suggestions by the community already, at this point, it’s a waiting game.
Sooo… pretty much there’s no point in naming your pets even when the game saddles us with them anyway. That is awful.
As I said before, the above “solution” has only two outcomes.
1. Everyone and their dog and their dog’s fleas has a legendary.
2. The system is actually so hard skill-wise that 99% of players can’t even hope to get a legendary. In either case much crying would ensue.
Option 2 sounds good lol <3.
Guilds, Clans whatever form they come in does indeed take work and I can imagine many people don’t want responsibilities of managing people when they’re trying to have a little escape. However, I do think part of the problem is that this game seems to have problems retaining players, yes we can come and go with no subs and that’s great but that takes its toll on a guild roster. Inactive rosters tend to be demoralizing, some will leave, others see this and follow.
Do I like fighting against invisible players? No. It’s one thing to go invulnerable but constantly losing visual on your opponent get’s old really fast. Someone attacks you, can’t kill you, then goes poof, no price for engaging, that’s a cheap experience and it’s annoying at best. I’m all for survivability, but I have no love for the stealth mechanic, they could have went with different design choices.
I wouldn’t say its more unfriendly than the next MMO. Yes a lot of the content is soloable. I think another factor is the combat requires you to pay attention and move around because it’s less forgiving than a game where you avoid/negate damage heavily based on levels or gear. Personally, when I’m in game I don’t want to squeeze in small talk with perfect strangers while trying to avoid a club to the face.
I haven’t tried WvW where they were focusing their efforts since the patch, but culling is much, much worse in open world PvE since the patch. It affects friendlies and enemies. Often the only cue that enemies are present in to see friendlies beating the air. Move in that direction and the enemies eventually appear. I was expecting, if anything, culling would improve after a patch that addressed it. Not so with 1/28 patch. And, it’s a non-issue with other games I play. I really don’t understand the problem they are having with it and why.
I’ve noticed it in PvE as well. In WvWvW it can be pretty brutal since fights with players are far less forgiving. The few waypoints and almost guaranteed repair bills don’t ease any of the frustration either. There are many times I try to go to someone’s aid, they have maybe two people on them, my ally goes down (fast too), I find it a little weird but jump in anyway then BAM, ten more people pop up around me aaaand I’m down! Talk about demoralizing lol. It’s surprising this issue made it passed beta or alpha for that matter.
The “GW2 takes everything you love about GW1 and..” is clever marketing (maybe a little shady) because apart from the lore and no sub, I can’t think of anything here from the original (low level cap, horizontal progression, dual prof/skill diversity, free travel, GvG, heroes etc etc) whether the player enjoyed those features doesn’t even matter, none of them are here.
It doesn’t sound good but forget anything you’ve read in the manifesto. GW2 needs to make up its mind and clearly communicate about what it wants to be and who it’s trying to appeal to because it can’t grab and hold on to everybody.
NO to a level cap increase.
- New lands of varying levels so people of different level ranges can have new things to see and do, there’s a down scale system in place anyway.
- Varying PvP maps and modes.
- Titles, mini games, fishing and non-combat activities, guild halls and battles, some kind of observer mode for the various instanced pvp matches like the original GW.
-new skins (so sick of trechcoats) and tell me why as an Asura I can’ commission a Norn to whip me up something with a Norm flare? It can be different from the Norn cultural armor (so that is still special) but it still has a Norn signature look.
There are a bunch of stuff you can add, fresh content doesn’t have to have bigger numbers attached, that’s cheap and lazy especially for a game that says it’s straying from tradition.
They do need to implement a way to summon your pet when you want to and not a moment sooner, why give us the stow option in the first place. This should not even be a question and I don’t need the experience to be dumbed down for me. If the player forgets to call their pet prior to a fight and it could’ve stopped them from getting wrecked, then lesson learned but stop taking away their choices. Not to mention the pets themselves are broken beyond belief.
Buy some bank space /poke poke :P
I do both. I like the open world but I take WvWvW breaks. sPvP get’s old really fast.
I’m in the “WvWvW is a PvP map” camp. Why? The only thing that makes those maps relevant is the server vs server aspect. Apart from map completion, the overwhelming majority of activities concern defending whats yours or taking whats theirs. Many of the NPCs serve a PvP purpose. Take those elements away, and you’ll have small insular maps that offer little diversity and a fraction of the PvE experience of the Tyrian map.
@Caedmon
How is sharing my experience with a keyboard designed for gaming irrelevant/off topic? It does not hurt them to know what’s out there and read about other people’s experience with said gear, this is the point of posting here. I think it was was quite reasonable to share that information in a thread asking about input devices on a gaming forum, that is not steering and labeling it that won’t make it so. It would help him/her if you stated why you didn’t like the gamepad(this is the second time I’m saying this and you’ve danced around it by making assumptions). That is my point and that is the issue I had with the comment as it didn’t seem very helpful. I hope I made myself clear. Laters
This is actually all pretty terrible (and kinda funny, – not that it happened, but that it’s so easy to happen), players feeling they have to take these measures of screencapping party chats, adding to pug members to friend lists. Having to use an external site to find groups is bad enough, now this. Granted, I rarely feel inclined to run a Gw2 dungeon so I’ve been shielded from this happening to me but I have seen party kick dialogues pop up for no reason the times that I’ve pugged and someone gets kicked and I don’t know why, no one says anything and everybody was fighting(as far as I saw). At least require the majority of the party to vote to kick.
imo gamepads are limiting and only useful for games designed to use them specifically
I have to disagree with you there. I use it in every game I play and with most other programs I use.
Well, obviously i tried a gamepad..didnt like it,didnt use it alot, was just a waste of money basically. The suggestions made were for the OP btw..
Yes it was a waste of money for you, and that’s fair enough but you were steering him/her from even considering one(because you didn’t like it for reasons you never even stated which I’m sure the OP might want to know, you may have similar tastes). It went a bit beyond a testimonial, you basically told the person that they weren’t going to like it and I simply added my bit about why it works for me to try to help him/her in the process of making a decision.
…
What is important is that the hardware you use fits your body. I’ve bought several different types of mice and keyboards and many have just collected dust or taken a trip to the closest recycling station. I need the right type of mouse aswell as the right height/slope on my keyboard and its buttons. If you dont get something that fits you, you will end up with wrist, arm and neckpains, thats just how it is.
A good suggestion is, never order keyboards or mice online, unless you have used the same type before and have been happy with it. It’s important to test them out before buying.
Amen
@ Plasmacutter
Yeah I’ve resorted to keeping it plugged in, slight hindrance but I’ll deal. The surface texture takes a little getting used to but it is a major improvement function wise over my last mouse (where the left mouse button started randomly double clicking on single clicks).
@ Chase
I wouldn’t say GW2 has a max of 10 keybinds. I bind the F skills, dodge, weapswitch etc, even my elite in one of my G700’s thumb buttons, it’s a Godsend in Photoshop and the 3D applications I use, I don’t know what I’d do with out em!
/////////////////////////////////
Illuminated keys are nice but I don’t use a computer in the dark so that would essentially be a pointless feature for me. The gamepad took a lot of the strain off my wrist(of course it doesn’t replace a standard keyboard but I barely use that when gaming anyway and even then it’s still sitting right in front of me like normal) and it’s made my fun and work more efficient and that’s what I care about. In the end its up to you, but I stress, try before you buy.
If you can try before you buy then do it, I got a Nostromo and it’s sitting there catching dust because the palm rest felt wrong, the G13 is perfect for me, I ended up getting the hubby one and he loves it too.
@Plasmacutter
Does your G700 have good battery life? I’m starting to think I got a dud because mine is eating through batteries like they’re going out of style.
As far as I can recall, the forums weren’t really bad until the Ascended tier debacle, DR and a good long stretch of silence on Anet’s part. I read some pretty cringe worthy stuff, it’s settling down now, somewhat haha.
I don’t agree with the OP. That’s a pretty negative view of things.
I find combat quite fun and interactive. Having more buttons and skills doesn’t mean gameplay is automatically more fun either. The complexity of the fights doesn’t rely only on what you can press either. The depth of the PvP fights comes from a variety of things including terrain, movement, positioning, and duration. Also, I’m going to point out that there’s a flaw to having too many skills and buttons, and that is the potential to distract the player or clutter the player with unnecessary UI and distracts you.
If you think combat diversity is low, then that shows YOUR diversity is low. My combat fights are adaptive and fluid and hardly lacking in diversity. Mix in weapon combos, combo fields, movement, LOS, mobs around you, water… and etc. Mix it up, and don’t limit yourself to just one thing. It’s like being handed a plate full of various foods and choosing only one item and screaming at the cook for not making the single food you chose to have more variety. lol.
PvP – Bunker isn’t necessarily boring… and I doubt that there is only one play style.
Content – they’ve been adding plenty of content along with events. I don’t see them failing to add new content as the months go on. The grind does exist, but that’s if you’re going for legendary. Other than that, I can pretty much just play and get through without grinding. Leveling isn’t really a drag because you go pretty much go from area to area without having to repeat events several times or grind a single mob many times to level up… You can even just go to another area through LA because low level areas in other places gives you quite a lot of XP for completing hearts. That’s due to the level downscaling. Leveling feels long sometimes though despite there being so many different ways to get XP. But get this, it feels long, but the leveling is smooth. So that’s just saying that there’s a lot of content for leveling, but leveling is a long process.
Btw, I can get about 1-3g in an hour by running dungeons. It’s not that hard to make gold if you really want to.
The game isn’t without flaws though, but nothing is perfect. Your “perfect” game can seem greatly flawed to another person. It’s a matter of opinions and tastes for some aspect of the game.
FYI, a lot of players who enjoy the game don’t bother reading forums or even say they enjoy it. Maybe it’s a good thing they don’t check forums because it gets tiring seeing people express things that you can surely argue against and prove wrong… but they’re not going to listen to what you say and stick to their opinions because they must be right and you’re wrong in their books.
How can an opinion on what is fun be proven wrong?
Sooo are AoE on mobs going to be nerfed too? I mean since part of the reason is people are supposedly having trouble rezzing allies. Is it going to be easier to rez random people in open world boss fights? I kinda like the AoEs going off and bobbing and weaving through them and taking a chance to rez someone.
I’m having difficulty wrapping my head around the need to dictate what skills players use and when. I’m curious as to which AoEs were causing problems.
It is what it is, that’s how I’m looking at it now. I’m looking at what is there in this game to invest time and effort in and I just can’t bring myself to care enough. I really like the open world, the maps are beautiful but at level cap, it ends up sucking the money out of your pockets so that quickly kills the fun, having to watch your money in a game just to enjoy a change of scenery on a whim (and the fact that I tried the different crafts doesn’t help). And for the same reason I like moving around in the open world, I’m not going to dungeon grind, ever.
PvP here lost it’s luster and I still don’t care about legendaries. Roll alts, have fun then I get to the lvl 80 maps, get bored, rinse repeat. In 4 months, I still haven’t logged 400 hours, who I played with have left and I’m already being asked why I stay and I’m embarrased to say…“it’s pretty”, otherwise, I’d be long gone.
The funniest thing was them mentioning people getting AOE’d while ressing people, like that was some problem with the game that needed to be fixed.
“We’ve received reports that when players clump in one place and stay stationary, players like to use attacks that can hit all of them. We’re hard at work on a solution”
I hope this isn’t true lol. We already have a solution, get the kitten out the way, even GW1 mobs scattered. GW2 combat is designed to be active and even chaotic, if you’re not on the move then you deserve to get hit, and what opponent would sit there and let you res your ally? The downed state works is a big boost as well, the person downed can work with you to get him/her back in the fight in seconds, so I don’t know about that complaint. Funny indeed!
…
Exploring, dungeons, fractals, crafting, gathering, buying with intent to make profit.
You don’t have to be a genius to realize that you’re incompetent at money making. How do you think people earn the money to buy the tier 3 cultural gear. Stop complaining about things you have no knowledge of.
To be fair, its pretty easy to lose quite a bit of money in GW2 if you simply romp around the maps at high levels, do random events and make alts. Not everybody can or even wants to play the TP. I’d say FotM falls under dungeons and not everybody is into grinding those, crafting requires a significant investment and maybe some of the top level stuff pay off, Mitch, you’re probably better off selling the mats. If you’re selling gatherables from you’re explorations then o.k you can make some money but apart from some rarer stuff like chili peppers, sesame seeds, ori ore etc, gathering for income can be a problem, especially when you’re contending with teleporting gatherers. And I know people buy gold (legit and otherwise), I know some who have outright quit because it killed the fun for them when they realized how much of the game hangs on it. Some even get help from their guilds. Many people have problems finding a “sweet spot” so cut the guy some slack lol.
I just realized…what does this have to do with AoE nerfs? ><
In all fairness, you can make money in dungeons extremely easily…at least 2g in an hour at minimum from AC speed or money runs.
And I also said, not everybody is into grinding dungeons…>.>
Just read Falcon Night’s comment about tagging for farming. Wasn’t even thinking about that. Good point!

Is this post some kind of ironic jab? Grind open world so you can turn into a dungeon rat for legendaries (assuming everybody cares)? And isn’t fractals already more lucrative than open world? lol my sides.
Are people actually buying those gem shop dyes? Aren’t they a gamble? Unless they have gem shop only colors and you can select exactly what you want then I can’t see the attraction.
Yes they can explore everything else and stay at 90 something . And quite frankly, who are you to question why someone wants 100 world completion?
I am someone in a discussion forum, in which people like to discuss things with arguments (once in a while). If all you say is “I want it to happen this way because that’s how I want it”, well… You are no better than my example about someone wanting to remove Orr from world completition.
Map completition isn’t a PvE only activity. Map completition isn’t required for anything other than a Legendary, which requires WvW anyway. Those two statements render the majority of arguments in this topic useless. I would like to see some decent reason as to why should ArenaNet waste their limited resources on this, preferably something more than just “because I want it and I will stop breathing until it’s given to me”.
Many things in this game are not “required”, not even the personal story and legendaries so what’s your point? Should players only care about map completion if they’re planning on getting legendaries? People play for different reasons. Orr is a poor choice to make into your example because it is part of the “persistent” world and is not subject to issues being brought up here concerning WvWvW. The wisdom of the design is being questioned and you keep repeating, that it was designed that way. And trying to make it seem childish that people take issue with the design choice doesn’t help your argument.
The design choice is being questioned and your argument is that it was designed that way. I was trying to save you the embarrassment of pointing out your circular logic.
Yes they can explore everything else and stay at 90 something . And quite frankly, who are you to question why someone wants 100 world completion?
Nothing needs to be proved. I wasn’t being snarky, no reason for you to be.
The only part of the completion that requires PvP or going into areas that aren’t always available are the WvW maps. Everything else is purely PvE.
Sorry if you felt that was being snarky. However, my point was that map completition has not been designed as a PvE only activity exactly because it requires WvW completition; and in fact PvP is the best part of map completition in those maps, since they are nearly identical, and the difference is who controls what.
I don’t see an issue, though – if you don’t want to complete the WvW maps, why do you want to get 100% map completition at all?
That is some scary reasoning there. “..in fact PvP is the best part of map completion in those maps..” Since when do opinions become fact?
Look, there are some people who don’t like PvP and they enjoy PvE enough to fully explore the overwhelming majority of zones(90%+) in a game that intentionally keeps PvP and PvE content separate. People will go there “to just get it over with” and this will be the sole purpose for being on that map, they won’t be there for all other things WvWvW.
I like the ancient, mysterious and hostile feel of Orr, they did a bang up job on the visuals. But a lot of nails went into that coffin, the bugged events, at one point bots were really out in the open, ridiculous event timers messing up way point usage, and of course, our dear friends The Risen and their crackhead capabilities, add to that the poor rewards and Fractals and that’s a perfect recipe for tumbleweeds.
In short, Orr blows. I know that’s why I don’t bother.
I’m on Borlis Pass and its pretty alright over here.
To tell the truth, alts are what keep me playing and I haven’t bought character slots, I lose a lot of interest in my characters when they hit level cap because I don’t really know which direction this game is heading and anything that interests me is a waste of gold at that level.
The lack of trinity isn’t something I mind in open world, but it can make dungeons a nightmare, too many times I’ve seen who people don’t even dodge or look out for the team and the party wipes.
What makes me laugh the most about this Ascended stuff is that players are complaining about it’s implementation, yet majority run the dungeon (Fractals of the Mist, a.k.a. FotM) to get it.
..
Yeah I think people decided to just get on the treadmill now rather than later so they’ll at least be cutting edge when the rest of the tier rolls out. Personally, I didn’t buy this game to repeatedly run dungeons for gear, especially with all the hype of being non-traditional. Right now I’ve been doing what’s left of the fun distractions but I get tired of having to be strict with my penny pinching and other annoyances cause me to end up logging out. I’m hesitant to start in on any long term goals, I’m trusting my gut on this one. I’ll wait and see.
Most things ARE unrewarding. Strong things don’t have proportionately good drops, so your best bet seems to just be killing a whole bunch of weak stuff.
I’ve found that it’s possible to make a surprising amount of gold that way.
How do you keep DR off your back? lol :P
1.People were angry about the lack of a release date because they already spent money and they were still given the “It’s ready when it’s ready” bit.
2. People complained about bugs because problems that shouldn’t have survived beta were popping up left right and center and it got worse in the higher level zones, even after “It’s ready when it’s ready.” And I’m leaving the Lost Shores debacle alone.
3. " Its so annoying that people talk about leaving the game cause they feel its broken or bugged or whatever"
Read that back to yourself.
4. The bot problem isn’t solved, they’re using a different strategy now, one that wouldn’t be possible if a certain exploit was fixed (if it can be).
I see few instances of people “trashing” the game, I mostly see people who are annoyed and they’re not coming to the forums with their hat in their hand, apologizing for daring to have an opinion, it’s not an issue of respect, they’re are paying customers and they’re annoyed enough to write up a post.
Anet should take comfort in the fact that people care enough about their product to post AT ALL. In today’s gaming market, players can easily be indifferent and that’s much worse than “negativity”.
LOL at Risen Karka
But seriously the Orr experience needs to be toned down or give players incentive to be there so people can help each other cut into that mess, its not difficult, I find its just unpleasant and annoying. The Risen Acolytes have crazy aggro range and they chase you for quite the distance. The running speed, the respawn rates, the placement density, the CCs, the permacontested WPs (those events come off cooldown so frequently, no one bothers). It’s novelty wore off pretty quickly for me.
I agree with the terrible Tab targeting priority. As a Ranger, it really gets bad, as I can hit things way off screen, thus aggroing stuff when I don’t intend to. I think losing the mouse might be a hardware issue, much like FFXIV had and they fixed. I’ve suffered this TAB problem in other games and it always ticks me off. I’ve been playing with the problem for so long and through other games, I rarely aggro what I don’t want to, but when it does happen, especially in a dungeon, it’s almost embarrassing.
As a Ranger, the tab issue is indeed a pain since I use my mouse’s tilt wheel functions for the F1 and F2 skills and I have Tab mapped to my G13, if I don’t catch it in time, my pet runs into mobs that I don’t want to pull.
Apparently “Guild Wars” is more about the lore than the actual GvG feature, or so I’ve read repeatedly, part of me feels this to be a bit of a cop out since I believe GvG was a signature aspect of the original and helped made that game popular. I would really like for them to add this.
Crafting at this point is pretty much a money sink, between the material costs and fees, you’re looking at a loss especially with all the other nickle and dime mechanisms built into the game. I’ve found the crafts useful to help my alts in other games but here you can buy gear on the cheap and leveling is easy enough plus a lot of players are kiting mobs anyway so it doesn’t even really matter. Anyway, at this point, I think people are mostly running FotM or playing the TP for their income because the rewards in most(if not all) other spots are pretty shabby in comparison.
I’m a compulsive explorer/gatherer with a ton of karma catching dust and that’s the only reason I tried cooking, I found it to be fun even though it ate up a lot of my storage space, I haven’t looked into whether magic find food makes any cash yet so who knows.
…PS: To the person who said they liked collecting and naming pets, another Ranger bug is that your pet names don’t save lol.
Yeah, I’m aware of that and I submitted a bug report here and ingame
————————————
At this point I’m not bothering with WvWvW but I’m not really having a problem in PvE and last I checked sPvP is dead as disco.
I name my pets with care and its is extremely annoying to whip them out and see “Juvenile x y z” generic names constantly. I simply can’t believe this is intentional.
I love my Ranger, I gave it a shot and was surprised how much fun I’m having with her. I like switching between my shortbow and axe/horn as the situation calls for it, plus I like collecting and naming the different pets during exploration, love seeing my shark munch on my enemies. Not to mention kiting in this game allows you to avoid some of the headaches that comes with the “no trinity” mantra.
