Don’t call old war stories Trolling. I have yet to see Eredon or Ferguson camped by SF in both EB and their Borderland for a day, let alone an entire week.
SF is but a disorganized Horde. Yes, they overwhelm, but once they leave, we can retake everything. A real server that wants to move up in tier wouldn’t allow us to retake. You can do it in EB pretty well, so why not the borderlands? Stonemist got your tongue?

As for not having the numbers to man all maps? That’s obvious outside of prime time. Hence ET capping EB late night/morning. During prime time though? Lol, you’d be very surprised how many dedicated WvW players/guilds don’t come into WvW just because of how boring little to no resistance we receive, and how boring it has become.
Yes, the majority of players in SF WvW right now is a disorganized PvDoor horde. And yeah, we need more nightly numbers to hold that gap, right now it’s not worth upgrading/manning towers when we just lose them overnight. Yet when we make recruitment threads to bridge that nightly gap, we get flamed because we’re ‘already winning’.
So ehh, bring us a challenge, give us a chance and reason to show you what SF can really do. I can’t imagine your ET nightcapping via PvDoor is much fun for them after awhile.

he never fought against kain… well except when he got bored for a day when transfers were free and daily and i recall him visiting us ferglings… he was on kain. back when they were tiny. hes talking about dr. and as well as i can remember, sf has comparable numbers to what dr had.

That is a very ridiculous statement. You have no idea why the ledges are there, in fact, they’re probably just there for graphics sake, since you know….every castle has walls like that on top…
So to say using chain pulls should be a bannable offense is just laughable, at best….
your assertion is the ridiculous one. the ledges prevent line of sight in precisely the areas you most want to shoot. they serve no other purpose besides stopping pulls, the exact reason its extremely dangerous to jump up on them to get better line of sight.
i dont give a kitten about chain pulls. its when you pull people over an obvious obstruction that you should be reported.

im pretty sure the ledges are there to specifically prevent people from being pulled off the walls, so abusing chain pulls to get around the terrain design constitutes exploiting and should be a bannable offense

encouraging people to create superservers by adding incentives to fight based on having higher population is not what wvw needs.
there is already enough space in the game to accomodate at least 3x as many people as there currently are. we are not being encouraged to USE the space.

You know what makes me want to quit on this issue? Its that if you look through these WvW threads you’ll see a Dev as posted on nearly every weekly higher tier thread, but on T8 where we are having trouble with numbers, ratings and over all not having fun with what we all love is being ignored. Does that sound fair? No no it doesn’t. I am soon going to stop playing WvW until the math gets fixed, SF outnumbers ET and FC put together most days, and it just isn’t fun, I am fine with being outnumbered, I am used to it by now, but I know SF deserves a match up that will keep them having fun, give them a challenge, and get them out out of FC/ET’s hair. Fix WvW Anet for the good of the game fix the math, this system isn’t working any longer.

as someone who regularly does 26/30 with a group of friends, but pugged my way up into the 20s…
a warrior is nice to have in the party.
a guardian is needed.
there are just too many places where projectile reflection/absorption is too useful. the full heal is too good in certain situations (mainly grawl boss, or undergeared party members at maw). the only fractal that is made a kittenton easier by a warrior is urban/charr, by using a warbanner on your vets when the captain kills them with agony.

If there were 300 “servers” for WvW, we would not have this problem as there would be a better chance for their to be many teams close to each other so that moving would be common thing, a solid win might move you up, a crushing loss would move you down, and blowouts would result in someone moving, not being stuck.
i actually think that this isnt true.. i thought the same, but there are always the edge cases. example – queue times in LoL went up exponentially at extremely high and low elo. matchmaking forced pairings with drastically different elos because the community of same skilled players was far too small.
overall, with a larger competitor population, the issue seems easier to write off because a relatively small percentage of competitors get stuck on the edges instead of the 25% that currently fill the edge matches… but its still gonna be an issue. i do think a rating ceiling/floor could solve the issue (to an extent) and of course this games matchmaking doesnt need to care about anything like queue times in LoL as matches are always made instantly.
selecting a specific floor and ceiling isnt really a trivial matter either, it has to be tight enough to prevent large gaps (current t8, server wins by 2x-5x point margins but loses rating cuz 300 point gap) but loose enough that servers dont constantly jump more than 1 tier from bad blowouts (a server bouncing between t6 and t4 — curb stomped one week, curb stomping another, and unable to find their real spot in t5 because they win or lose too hard and get huge rating jumps relative to the space between each servers ratings).

I would like a show of hands how many people here have more deaths that kills, I know my kills vastly outnumber my death by at least 10 fold. Just want to see the competition I am really dealing with here, we may have a break through and it may not just be a numbers thing as all these people have claimed before.

he doesnt acknowledge problems with glicko. or acknowledge that players could probably be strongly encouraged to balance out wvw populations. its always “culling fix is coming…”. its his job to help make wvw better. culling is only 1 aspect.
obviously t(he)y read(s) the forums. he posts when a gamebreaking exploit surfaces, just before the thread is deleted. they finally fixed the invuln areas in the borderland southern camps, without ever so much as saying “hmm…” in one of the multitude of complaint threads.
but real problems surface as the game ages. all we really want is for one of them to acknowledge that we arent just whiny lil kittenes and the problem is real and something they could think about.
if it takes SotG to do that, ok. if it takes obscure 3rd party out-of-touch interviewers in a café on the other side of the planet, ok. there is an easier way ( cough forums cough ), but seeing patch notes in 6 months about issues brought up and unanswered is simply unacceptable communication when it takes 5 seconds to type “hmm…” and reassure us that the problems are at least being pondered.

well i think… i think that something more substantial than a bandaid wouldnt be significantly more or less work.
i mean you could soft reset ratings for essentially no work for a temporary fix, and design a floor and cap for rating and a framework for future automated soft resets (in the event that a ratings gap develops) for slightly more work.
^ wouldnt force any pairing changes where you dont need to, a problem i think would arise any time a winner-goes-up loser-goes-down system works its way in.
like maybe a tier comes in w/ green winning by 10-20k for several weeks in a row. should green really move up out of such a close match? i dont think so, but they would be arbitrarily forced into moving up. and the server that moves down… there are (currently) huge walls in active population between servers, its not unlikely that the red server from the tier above is wayyyyy out of the league of the balanced matchup servers. which is exactly what the devs wanted to avoid by choosing this poorly embraced ranking system.

i dunno, seems like a workable idea but…
it seems like its a bandaid focusing on variety instead of something deeper focusing on preventing bad matches.
variety isnt what we need, whether we crave it or not. balanced matches are. i think preventing gaps in rating is a more long term solution.

on guild missions:
i will probably keep doing them for as long as my guild holds events to do them more for the company than for the reward. while some kind of immersion would make the experience better, a lot of why i get online is for the friends.

I know the one who spent a ton of gold running around upgrading the entire SF BL by herself when none of the structures were even claimed by her guild (good job to all the lazy kitten idiots with guild funds who never did).
By 4AM or so she had to go, and I left shortly after. Felt really bad, because that left two others on the map, and I just knew ET would cancel out every upgrade she spent hours-worth of money on uncontested.
If SF had any kind of night crew we’d actually have a reason to upgrade anything. But no, the best we can ever manage is 6-7 in EB to defend SM overnight while we our entire ghost town of a BL turns blue.

lose the mindset that a claiming guild should be the ones upgrading that structure. its very bad for your server. whenever i see a person complaining about this in map chat, i roll my eyes and pray the troll gets ignored before everyone gets mad for no reason.
claiming means nothing for upgrading. it only has purpose for buffs. complain when a claim is preventing another guild with active buffs from helping the defenders.

I don’t think you are getting the consequences of your actions.
You want to leave a red/blue server that is getting beaten by a green server. With few exceptions, most of the recent WvW matches have been dominated by the green server.
If others do the same bandwagoning, the green server will become a red server in the next highest tier, only to get stomped. By moving, you’ll eventually end up in the same situation you want to leave now.

No one knows if SF can handle T7 because SF actually never left T8 after it became bigger. Also, no one know if HoD/GoM are really bigger than SF in order to loopside T8 if they ever drop.
NSP used to hold itself very well in T6, until a suposedly 2v1 in order to drop’em (or so legend says). Also, Darkhaven (Ex-green T7), is handling very well at T6 (as new red).The problems the high tiers are facing right now just go as far as T5… If IoJ/DR ever drop down, things might change, but for now, that’s it.
Wait how long have you been in T8 for….under a week and now there is a new expert on the field. I realize that there was a problem when SoS players moved to your old server, but to trash talk people that joined a winning server and had you guys move up to face the T1 competition is a little suspect to me. Now here on T8 SF get blasted for having to many people and some how vilified for even trying to recruit, like it’s some how our fault that ET and FC hasn’t even been able to compete with us. I just don’t understand why someone would transfer to the T8 quagmire and then start crying foul about everything in T8….you did make the decision to transfer here.

know how to place siege, be willing to buy siege/upgrades, try to have at least a little mechanical skill with your character (but more importantly know your class’s strengths/weaknesses and how to deal with them), communicate with others, work with others, keep a level head, listen to others.
smart people will forgive you for being lacking in a couple/few of these things if you can show you can learn. but bad commanders lack the majority or all.
as for your last questions about intuition… those can only be answered by your experience and experiences. there is no clear answer. just learn from mistakes. no single bad decision will cost the weeks match, the collective force from any server is too large ( as long as you dont keep repeating mistakes ).

10% extra condi duration in addition to the 30% from the explosives tree makes it a 3 second burn. I’ve tested it repeatedly for months, that’s the way it works.
IMO it’s far better than shrapnel in all respects except for AOE spam, which is only effective in PvE and WvW.
youve just changed my mind… ive been using incendiary powder for as long as i can remember, but i hadnt really thought about the icd, and pve/dungeons and wvw are my bread and butter.
ive known about both traits for a long time but i only just started thinking about it after doing a dungeon run with 4 guardians and my engi, when i swapped the trait just cuz i figured they could easily keep burning on all the time but have few bleeds.
while burning is definitely the strongest unmodified condition, bleeds scale a lot better and i have not insignificant condi damage from rampager armor and celestial trinkets. condi necros (and other bleed stackers…? rampager engi seems to be getting popular ish…) are rare enough in my social encounters that i dont feel like ill be stepping on any toes switching over, and guards are all too common (and needed) in dungeons and will often perma burn with or without me helping.

NSP here, we’ve begun to pull ahead. Not entirely sure if we’re gonna make HoD drop (they’d need 100pts of ratings loss), but we’re doing our best to give T8 a change in opponents.

condi build, direct build, doesnt matter. always grenades. break your keyboard, break your finger, be a better dps’er.
elixir r for support. sucky people wont bring you down with them, and good people get up while you dps.
last utility kinda free/situational. toolkit for the pull sometimes, eg for super elixir sometimes, C or S for condi removal sometimes, ft in ta for flowers, bombs for… no bombs are melee so theyre op damage but youll kill yourself to use them, B or U or rifle turret or whatever when you dont need those other useful things and just want to dps more.
traits… well 30 for grenade grandmaster is the only thing that matters.

Tier 8 is an outlier problem really. You got the bottom two servers without a potential third server for an equal match up. Where as t3-5 has an actual chances of somewhat equal matches.
naw, we have 3-6 potentially good opponents… but the unsuitable opponent is stuck cuz theyre not quite enough to break free like kaineng/dr were, but wayyyy too populous for us. so we dont have the option of finding suitable opponents.
at least theyre getting bored and making the match a little closer this week / last week.

for as long as they refuse to balance wvw populations they need to implement a dynamic scaling for the threshold to create orange x’s. a low threshold is bad for high pop servers, and a high threshold is worse for low pop servers.

In fact, I was running my ranger out in SF lands, killing yaks for my daily and I saw this FC thief doing the same thing, It was really cool how we waited and let each other kill our SF yaks before fighting it out, (yes, he killed me, and I hope he got a badge for it)

when i need to afk i tend to do it in LA… if there happens to be a bunch of other commanders i might turn on mine for the hell of it
you know, im pretty sure it helps some people with name recognition in wvw. if they saw you sometime last week in LA theyll at least know you arent a new transfer in wvw… and thats about the only reason i ever turn it on in LA.
