- get extra hero points
- get generic ascended stat swapping mats (t6 leather, gossamer, ori, wood, 10 ecto per item, spirit shards) so you can be ready to create insignias/inscriptions as soon as you have the recipe and the final identifying mat (ie black diamonds = viper)
- get hot masteries cuz gliding is prolly useful in a limited sense

farming proofs of heroics isnt useful except in that they make hero points easier

if you want to go solo fortified things, the most important part of your build will be having 15-18 defensive wvw infusions equipped and the guard masteries. if you have that, you can be pure zerk or viper and just plain kill lords faster.

If you played the HoT maps at all you’ll know that’s not true and that initially some of the hero points were either insanely hard to get to, or were guarded by champs/veterans that you needed a group to take down. So if Anet is true to form, none of us are unlocking an elite spec in a single evening, never mind “ten minutes”.
WHY YES, I HAVE PLAYED THEM! i have 22 toons. and thats why I said what I said. there are 11 or so channel ones spread across vb, ab, and td. there are a couple more that arent champ fights but usually need a mastery to not be a pain. all it takes is the time to traverse the map.

and go buy hero points with proofs right now on toons that already have their specs, cuz you can use the extra points towards the new spec.

im not sure about pvp but it will prolly have holo 2-(23)-x and be power. similar for wvw but i am even less certain about even bringing holo into wvw although i will play the kitten out of it.

my wvw engis are rotting. as long as thief shortbow can daze, they will prolly rot. ill try out holosmith and play the kitten out of it, but i dont expect it will compete with a non weapon swapping condi shortbow thief in mobility, tagging potential, rage aggro potential, or ease of play. core engi in any build struggles to compete, and power scrapper has too hard of a time landing damage in a roaming environment when it bulks up enough to survive, and condi scrapper leaves something to be desired though it is fun.

4 stat combos give about 10% more overall stats than 3 stat combos
(ie the amulet will have 408 total vs 373)
while its harder to direct all of your stats in a proper useful direction because the available combos are generally not all pure and especially in wvw you usually want to tweak your build for certain stat benchmarks, its hard to argue against simply having more. so when you can make use of all 4 stats from a particular combo, youre gonna be better off using as much as possible.
with soldier vs commander, you can think of commander as a better knights. personally i always liked mixing in knight and cavalier for my power engi builds prehot (and pre ferocity). its more offensive than soldier, so if you struggle to survive in a zerg, id recommend switching to some wanderer (which is a better soldier).
what you get out of the boon duration is extra protection, stab, and might uptime. more regen. more fury. both offensive and defensive perks as long as you use boons.
keep in mind that generally in mmos, 10% of anything extra is usually the difference between a close loss and a roflstomp.

at the very least i suggest not ever looking at soldier for anything ever any more. wanderer, commander, marauder all bring more to the table than soldier and can be mixed to provide similar defensive stats with extra other things. exotic wanderer can be easily obtained from dragons stand or the hot story and marauder is craftable. soldier wont let you kill anyone competent and will keep you running away from nonnoobs. and with all the durability rune and might stacking type build recommendations flying around, getting that extra boon duration is absolutely critical.
personally i dont like that durability runes make condi necros into a hard counter, but i havent found a better way to play power scrapper… and ive migrated more to an extremely troll and easy to play thief build after playing the kitten out of engi for years cuz scrapper just isnt great in wvw imo and core builds arent competitive against elite builds in general.

new elite spec adds a sword and a melee transformation
so as xzibit would put it: we added more melee to your meelee so you can meelee while meleeing.
(unlike core engi it has actual damage though )
This game has so much melee, and so many anti ranged skills, you may as well call it Melee Wars 2.
Core Engi was definitely not melee, especially when you had Pistols/Rifle & Grenades.
Even if they were better the closer you got, you still could be effective at range. Kinda miss that being viable.

f1 cant be reflected, so take mug and have everyone push f1 to pin snipe and boon strip without kneeling. take the refresh on kill trait. you prolly only need 20 deadeyes to down someone instantly, so the rest of the group can be a scourge turtle or something.

uhh I don’t think op has tried purge gyro in pvp because if he had he wouldn’t have said it sucks. it is a staple against condi. you are unkillable in a 1v1 while you wait for a +1. you can stall out 2 people if one is condi while your team gets a 4v3. purge is excellent.
blast and shredder aren’t great though. shredder brings nothing. blast can’t do enough but at least it has that unexpected launch that you might be able to capitalize on.

i did this back when hope came out and i dont remember stumbling on this part. i cant remember if i had to do multiple dragons stand runs but it was nothing compared to having to fail the temple of lyssa and getting the quaggan champ in frostgorge.

HoT legendary weapons are popular and don’t diminish core legendaries. the acquisition is the same, especially after yall ditched those really work intensive collections. but now we have options and each weapon type can serve a broader base. 3 armor weights with 3 classes each leaves a lot of room for lofty goals and varied aesthetics.
unless you mean yall think it’ll diminish the community by giving alternate methods and it could kill off raids since they require so much more coordination. thats totally possible. I personally don’t see myself raiding much now that wvw has it and maybe that’s what anet fears… well too late now. putting it in fractals too would definitely be another nail in the coffin for me.

Missing a queue pop if you previously had 0 dishonor would only result in 3 minutes of being unable to queue for PvP. But before this happened, you had an abandoned match (you dropped from a match in progress) 1.5 hours before.
This causes the penalty to ramp up, hence the harsher penalty.
There is no reliable way to tell if someone dropped intentionally or not, so there will always be dishonor if you disconnect.
There really shouldn’t be any dishonor for missing a queue pop. Maybe if you miss 2+ in a row you can give dishonor, but if my average queues are 3-5 minutes long, and you’re telling me I can’t afk in that time because i have to sit and monitor the queue or I’ll get dishonor.
I understand giving dishonor if you AFK in a game, you negatively affected the outcome of a match, but unless you’re trolling the queue by declining every pop, you’re not affecting anyone in a negative way. In fact, declining a match just because someone is at my door and I need to go see what it is, is better than having to accept the match, and then having to AFK for an undetermined amount of time, because I didn’t want to get dishonored.
on the other hand, people like you in the top 100 or 200 or 500 (or however high you have to be to look at your friend list and see whos not in a game currently and reliably predict from that who will be in your queue that just popped) can queue dodge with no real penalty if theres no extra dishonor.
its happened in other games. league players abuse it all the time, even with major time penalties. just log on another account and keep on truckin. why would it not be abused here. what makes you think its not already bypassed here.

hmm i go explosives (2/3)13, firearms 322, tools (1/2)(1/3)3, w/ “( / )” being optional and use bombs/rocket boots/throw mine
explosives and the endurance mod are absolutely not gutted and double dodging through a thing usually kills it so idk what yobculture is talking about unless he means in raids where the loss of explosive powder hits engi by about -10%. but in open world, gadgeteer and ammo systems give engi about +200% over last patch.

you are going to be able to chain like 15-20 secs of leaps with holosmith before you have to just walk for more than ~1 sec. with just rocket boots, sword, and photon forge 2.

I wonder if the dot will even proc amr. amr is pretty specific, you have to take direct damage while under the threshold. you can be downed by taking 30% of your hp while you are at 29% without activating it.
I wonder if maybe that is what’s happening here, but I doubt it. all of these people not raking a single point of direct damage while under 25% for hours… nah.

yeah ok, i suppose i could have been more precise. theyre willing to nerf things that warp metas extremely and present bad, boring, cancerous, or conflicting gameplay. taking away functionality doesnt require new animations, as we can see from hammer 3 losing a daze. the animation is the same, but we only get 2 leaps now instead of 3. guardian traps didnt need new animations when they lost dazes.
so i mean if youre calling for huge nerfs already because you genuinely think everything about holosmith will be op and no raid, pvp team, fractal group, and or wvw roamer will want to play without or against holosmiths, please, have fun.
but it seems to me that you just arent happy with what you are getting, and you want something that you came up with instead. and its too late for that kind of change. that was up for discussion months ago when they hadnt yet announced the expansion. try again before they announce the 3rd xpac and already have all the back end work done. (although they prolly already have tons of ideas sitting in a usb drive somewhere that dont give you some kinda awkward legal claim over their IP).

if you dont already think its at least passable, well, i hate to break it to you… but its too late for holosmith. animations and programming are done already. because the class is playable on the dev client. if you want changes, you will need to suggest mostly numbers changes at this point, because as weve seen from core and hot, anet doesnt really go back and redo things that arent explicitly broken and unplayable (and not just workable yet bad). i wish you luck and inspiration coming up with ideas along those lines.
