Seen a few players from Kaineng on the Surmia server (EU). World vs world has not been over populated for us either lately due to the living story stuff and a bad match up this week.
Sooner or later players (not all) will lose interest in world vs world if not the whole game – like any other game the popularity wears down.

Or more to the point; unless you buy a commander tag you cannot purchase siege at all because it would be pointless. This would also make the daily achievement of ‘big spender’ pointless too for those players doing the dailies.
I understand your frustration; in saying this, the only time i’ve seen it happen on ros is when people hit the wrong blue print – which is a rarity.

This also happens when sides capture towers & keeps; instead of just taking supply to use on the next objective they build up lots of siege inside whatever was just captured. One side built a whole lot of trebs after capturing our keep. No doubt the zerg had a commander; hence I am in no doubt commanders can be just as guilty as individual trolls.
Okay, so the commander is the only capable of putting down siege? does this apply to defensive siege too? You happen to be on one of the maps, no commanders present. Zerg knocking at the door and no one can build anything due to the lack of a commander.
Unless Anet implements a reporting function for trolls like above (with screenshot or video proof) little can be done.

I’d say there is a pretty strong sentiment against the idea of collapsing all of WvW into 3 colors, rather than the current world set up. Which I agree with. I think world pride and association is an important part of the way that WvW works currently.

Here’s a possible version of shorter matchups that wouldn’t necessarily sacrifice the long term fight of a WvW matchup currently and wouldn’t involve merging everyone into one of three teams.

Matches last 8 hours, there are 21 matches in a week with the same 3 worlds, the winner of the week is the world that wins the most matches over the course of that time.

This solves some of the problems we see currently, namely the issues that can arise as matches get out of hand towards the end of the week. However, it would still give worlds with better coverage a leg up on their opponents. It also loses the feeling that you’ve had a long term battle for victory.

I’m curious what you all think of that? Does it retain the feeling of victory in WvW right now and solve problems or does it just introduce more issues without solving any core concerns?

21 matches really? That is too much.
8 hours is too short because you the cost of upgrading forts and all that stuff takes a lot of gold. And holding stuff becomes less viable.

With that said, of course there is strong opposition. The servers that spent money stacking for easy victory don’t particularly like the idea that they waste their money and their easy win.

The point being, having the matches be too short undermines bothering to capture and upgrade forts.

Making it into a red and green and blue insures that coverage is NEVER EVER a major issues. There is always someone somewhere and it comes with the added bonus that the smaller servers at gets to enjoy WvW in its full glory.

Short of doing that, WvW will always be a coverage and smaller non WvW focused servers are always going to be screwed.

ADDED: there is no point system that will fix WvW and make it fair. The only way to is go extreme and make coverage less of an issue. Assuming 18 main NA servers, having 6 servers together issues that there is always coverage.

to fix WvW, you have to go Nuclear and you will have to kitten people off, but they will get over it. It is better to have a functional WvW and make a few people mad than to have the current terrible system. Just remember a lot of people were mad about the existence of EoTM. In an MMORPG they will always be mad and angry players, but you have to do what is best for the game even if it goes against some players interest.

We need matches balanced or as balanced as possible.

I would like to know which tiers have the best match ups. 3 weeks back my server were tier 6 and the variations in coverage & population were quite dramatic, regardless if you were matches against other tier 6 servers or up against tier 5.
Now we are tier 7 and its the only time in a year of world vs world the rounds have been close to being the ideal match up.
Guilds moved away from our server too, due to bad match ups.

Where will WvW be in 2-3 years?

All games die off eventually, regardless of popularity. My guess would be in 2-3 years now you might encounter a few ‘hardcore guilds/players’ roaming around on a smaller selection of servers because world vs world servers were merged due to huge population imbalances. Or the game might become like eotm where three colors play one another with auto balance.

Cannot get past the character load screen at the moment (for almost an hour of trying) for whatever reason.
The lag was prevalent last night; especially so in the Lions Arch living story.

Guessing their is some sort of issue today as I have not been able to log in for the last 40 minutes. Either get stuck at the character selection screen or make it to the spawn area in Gendarran fields only to be disconnected a couple of seconds later. Prior to this (40 mins ago) the game was running fine.

Please let me know if you can receive gift of exploration after you finish the map or not.
Many players can’t receive that after this patch and they have done troubleshooting (including me).
ANet Support Team Member just tell me to run all area again.
WTF.

Gained completion 2 days ago & received the gifts of exploration. Almost missed it; first a chest comes up with the a lions arch key etc. After the chest is opened a small map completion icon appears at the bottom right corner, click it and you receive the gifts.

The fastest two levelers for me were the ranger & necromancer. Both have pets so to speak, which distract enemy enabling the players to deal a nice amount of damage – depending on level & skills available. Solely PvE. Got through 99% map completion with the ranger soloing with the exception of one spot in Orr which is yet to be obtained.

There is a away. Enter from Gendarran fields; take an immediate left from the way point, climb on top of the structure in the screen shot, then jump down on the bridge below. Behind where I am in the screen shot you can jump up the rocks and make your way over to the vista. You will also find a heirloom in a pile of rubble at the top.

There are groups/guilds that do them on set times. But your best bet is to get your guild or some friends together because with the group or guild there are usually set times.

The temple also gets done during the World Tour if the commander wants too and those tours usually start at server(daily) reset.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately for me, I am in the Oceanic time zone; my guild is EU based which of course means most guild event groups/groups run while I am asleep.
Of course the other option is guesting. Hence my question about which servers still have groups taking the time to contest area’s like above.

My question is; do any of the EU servers contest the temple of Balthazar? Reason – it’s the last skill point needed for 100% map completion. Tried getting the skill point on my own while contested only to die right beside the statue due a combination of fire raining down and the group of risen. This one might be too tough for a solo effort.

Always thought it should give the out numbered side/sides a foot hold on maps. Like flipping their keep or garrison – depending on the map & making righteous indignation on the lord longer so other sides cannot just follow one another around flipping the keep/garrison every five minutes or so.
The buff as it now is only beneficial for not having to spend sums of money repairing armor after being stomped by a large enemy group, kitten bound on not letting you back on any map.
Reason for this is because often one side is vastly superior in numbers & coverage. When in this scenario the maps are normally one color for the majority of the week because any side trying to gain ground are blown straight off the maps and lose their desire try & compete. While this does not solve mismatches by any means it might give an incentive to keep other servers interested in the round.

Been on both sides of this; the two stronger sides combining together on our bl map. Another time the two weaker sides trying to capture SM and failed, even with green & blue combined we could not compete with red player numbers. Fortunately its a rarity.

I’m running on Windows 8.1 and I haven’t noticed any issues whatsoever with my gameplay – The DDoS and skill lag issues aren’t under our control as end users, and that’s the only serious problem I’ve been having lately.

Why try to fix what’s not broken?

Runs like a dream for me on windows 8.1 too.

I can’t play more than 5 minutes before getting the infamous dc message in my face.

It’s amazing how many problems this game has, but we’re still playing it, something we shouldn’t. Everyone should stop playing until it’s really playable, but it’s because of the game’s potential and what we wish it could be that we’re still here.

When I look at the whole picture, this whole game reminds me more of a giant Beta tbh…..

Got to take into account this could be outside of anets control.

Pretty much the same on my server. At times all maps are entirely blue. A side we beat last week are 100,000 points a head. Can only think my server is tanking.
Balancing is not going to solve this if people are either avoiding the game for specific reasons or the lag & disconnects from the ddos attacks are behind the problem.
Balancing would be nice but the game would need to be run the same as eotm for it to work. 3 colours vs one another instead of the current set up.

This is/was happening on ROS too – in this case it was one of our own guilds. Groups would be ramming the doors of a tower & magically a group of green dots would appear in the lord without the door or walls being down.
A mesmer fly out of a keep onto a ledge above a tower. A guardian attacked by six players & a ballista auto heal every time their health dropped to whatever level. An invulnerable necromancer – like they had righteous indignation. We caught a thief trying to get into the citadel on our borderlands map.

Rangers, eles, necros, engineers (grenades) & even warriors (sniper build) are all ranged classes so its makes sense they can deal damage to siege & players on top of the wall. Take away AoE and the shoe is squarely on the other foot.
Large blobs & mass golem rushes are more of an issue (imo) they are next to impossible to defend against. Golems can also wipe out siege on walls & players.

Every blob I have encountered had a simple goal; attack & capture anything in their path & stomp any enemy trying to stop them. This also includes blobs I have been part of.

Nope, you need to have pugs that are willing to follow, and not run everywhere and nowhere, doing just what pleases them while is not always good for the group (oh, I’ll put out all my aoe’s to tag as much as I can, despite the lead asking for water zones… or lets all go in a different direction, tagging different people instead of doing a burst to effectively bring the ennemy down… or what a great idea to go directly at the lord to get the banana despite the 10 AC raining on the lord’s room…)
Commander can’t be better than the people following (or not following) him…

This is true although the same applies to commanders. Wait until you’re fortunate enough to be stuck with commanders obviously incapable of making decisions. Run from point A to point B to Point C then back again. What did the pug achieve? outside of physical exercise for their chars, nothing. No fights, no defense, no attacks, no siege building – just run in a circle, stop for a couple of minutes while commander consults whatever tools are available, then run in a circle again.
Lets attack this tower; place siege right in front of a group of 40 enemy that just capped the tower and wonder why your pug & siege were wiped out (’but but… dear leader, we could not build your siege without being killed in the process). Commander gets upset, oh this group of players has no skill. Hmmm, perhaps commander should have built siege a distance away from tower giving pug the chance to defend against the inevitable attack.

150 players, 1 map, where do you send them?

The problem is what happens when your oppent (or even both of them) just rock up with 80 people in one big blob. Suddenly none of your teams (not even 2 combined) can deal with them and they will just rampage through the whole borderland taking one thing after another. Sure, you’ll cap things back very more quickly and effectively, but you will lose all your upgrades and generally weaken the BL by doing so.

The only way you’ll stop them is but uniting your three 25 man groups into one blob yourselfs and suddenly you have the exactly situation we do have. One huge blob on both sides with some smaller guilds/roamers hanging about doing other stuff.

Essentially the problem is there is no real counter, defensively, to an enermy blob other than making your own blob. If you are attacking a BL its different because if they are blob defending you can split up and attack multiple towers/keeps and it works great.. But when you’re defending and they are blobbing? There really is only one solution.

This is exactly what happens when mismatches occur. You spend an entire week running in a circle trying to capture stuff on your bl & eb the 80 man blob ran over in a couple of minutes. Do not bother upgrading anything as they will be on another circuit around the maps shortly unless they decided to place a scouts in all locations and wipe any attempt you make. Defending against these blobs is proving to be impossible because either the doors are pvd’d down in a minute or two or you face insane golem rushes.
Must state I am not against the blobs or zergs etc. This is about who has best coverage & player numbers vs those that do not.

Server handicaps for Tourney

Well, yes, GW2 became a pay-to-win game somehow. If you are on a T2 or T3 server in EU, even the PvE events like Tequatl are rarely done simply because you don’t have enough players to fight those more-difficult-events. The jungle worm? No way you will ever see him down on any low polpulated server. What happens is that most players on those T2/3-servers guest on the higher populated servers. This started with Tequatl and is now the more or less only and common way to get those achivements. With WvW it’s almost the same – excepts, you can’t guest. So if you like MMORPG-style fights, you move to a T1. If you don’t really care about the “massive”, than you can do some small scale fighting in T2 or T3. But with this S2 and the expected reward system, most casual WvW players will move to T1. And it’s only a matter of time till PvE players will start to follow. And ANet won’t pool the lower servers until they got almost all money/gems from the moving players.

Even more so if you’re a non EU/NA player. No chance of getting any of those events done. Also a hindrance for trying to get map completion due to contested areas in Orr always being contested. Commonsense dictates guesting elsewhere, even when you do it does not guarantee any success either.

Go have a look in the tech forum about network lag etc. You’re experiencing ‘skill lag’ which could be a result of denial of service attack. Apparently more than one MMO is suffering from this.
If it makes you feel any better lots of players are having the same issue as you.

Only way to stop pvd is to remove it from the game.

This system isn’t designed to stop PvDoor but it would prevent a server from ticking 600+ points for 8 hours of a day and dominating the scoring of a match for an entire week.

Not necessarily; if sides lack coverage during certain time periods and are vastly out numbered the score is still going to stack up. Take into account peoples tendency to avoid lopsided rounds which has a major impact on player numbers at any given time of day.

Would you put in the same hours if there were no rewards associated with world vs world outside of the achievement chest award for each level gained?
