When I first heard of the Mystic Forge I thought, “what an interesting idea.” Over time that interesting idea has evolved into, “what an insidious idea.” Not much better than Black Lion chests IMO. Encouraging gambling-like behavior in a game intended to be teen friendly just seems like a bad idea to me.
In ‘real life’ my gambling consists of the occasional lotto ticket, nothing more. Sadly I caught the gambling addiction bug with the forge after having some ‘insane’ luck. Boy have I learned the hard way lol.
Nothing new. There was a group of Anet players in the lab last weekend.
You can have good runs with the forge & bad. Lost large amounts of gold twice, trying to obtain a specific precursor.
Don’t feel too bad. From all the ‘unique’ events over a two year period I have received one exclusive item. Zuzu on the first day of this event.
The world has not ended, although it is easy to understand the frustration.
Was nice to see a group of Anet players roaming around the labyrinth during the weekend. Only ever encountered Anet people when there has been an issue with events being farmed.
A hint for the ones having trouble getting bags. Use a flame thrower engi, staff guardian or axe ranger. They will hit multiple targets. Even a greatsword mesmer.I use staff necro on the door events
Not tried running the labyrinth with my necro. Was using my mesmer until yesterday. Swapped to flame thrower engineer and the difference in loot drops was astounding. 500 bags in 4 hours vs say 200 from my mesmer.
Depends on which one you finish first…Halloween or regular Daily.
Nice to know. Thought it had changed for the Halloween event.
Any game can become a bore when you spend large amounts of time doing the same stuff over & over again. Whether is be world vs world, leveling up alts – going through all the hearts, poi’s etc over & over again. Same with dungeons or spending a lot of time roaming the labyrinth & so forth.
Taking a break from the game once in a while helps greatly in my opinion. So you’re doing the right thing.

The magic find is worth it alone. Money can also be made converting candy corn to cobbs then selling. Maize balm is great for turning ambient creatures into bite size elemental’s, providing even more tot bags & opportunities to gain.
Plus you just never know what might drop from one of the bags.
Also note the Halloween dailies drop the laurels & not the standard daily.
I’ve had a few rare items. Although they did not drop from bags; they dropped from npc’s just like anywhere else in the game. Same with T6 crafting mats.
Like above, the only item of real monetary value was one mini zuzu.
ty for that info. Just want to clarify. You mean there is no real separation in servers? So the people I see playing in an area are not necessarily from my server (Ehmery Bay)?
And I don’t have to move over to or be invited to “another server” to play with a friend or guildy?
I have played another MMOG and people had to be on your server in order to play/group with, so guilds were server based. Hence my confusion in assuming that all those players I see running around in game were on my specific server.
Ah……….. I have a lot to learn about this game. lol
Was the case before megaserver’s were introduced.
Wanted one as well, for my mesmer.
Gw2 dating – rofl
You can have runs. In one four hour period I picked up 2 x dusk, tooth of frostfang, zap & the hunter.
Another time I got dusk, dawn, the legend & leaf of Kudzu over a three hour period.
The down side. Twice I have lost large amounts of gold in the mystic forge trying to get the precursor wanted.
At the moment – no precursor, legendary and not much gold.
Noticed a difference after the 2nd update.
meanwhile players that missed the last years haloween and a bunch of new players that never even heard of it fully enjoy todays content and are not making posts like this one about how “LS” and non permanent content is unfair
Pretty much the case for me, even though I’ve been playing close to two years. Having a lot of fun doing the events, collecting loot & so forth.
Received a mini on the first day; mini Zuzu. Unsure whether it came from a boss chest of randomly from a bag.
Tried my luck in the forge tonight. 500 rare great swords, 40 exotic great swords. Nothing. All swords & money down the drain. That’s RNG for you. Not sure which is worse, the mystic toilet or hoping one will drop from some random mob or event.
If you give up or stop caring (or both) you won’t have to be disappointed. That’s what I did and it’s working out great so far.
That being said I still want to see the entire system revamped.
Not so sure I do care. The only down side to using the forge is the money sink. Takes a while to build funds back up for another go.
This happens on various maps until the said events are nerfed. Generally people are farming champ boxes & bags. The usual response to anyone trying to complete events is to head to another instance.
The behavior associated with failed events (not by all) is the reason why events are nerfed and starting to wonder if it ties into the nerfing of loot….

Northern Shiverpeaks (US). Formerly Ruins of Surmia (EU).
Well since I have been doing a lot of it lately: being severely kitten mobility-wise in WvW. So annoying. If I don’t start moving right when the commander does, I’m probably going to fall wayyy behind and even die if the other server comes up on us.
I think most people probably don’t use WvW to level, and yes I understand I shouldn’t have the full benefits of being 80 while I’m still just 50, but the mobility is awful. Maybe I play the wrong classes. :P
Mobility for certain classes is awful, always has been the case. Never quite understood why light armor wearing class like the mesmer is so slow.
Over powered champions in Orr, that can pull you over the top of walls ending in certain death once you hit the ground (always humorous to watch).
Even though one of my toons has map completion due to the fact I play world vs world, I cannot be bothered dragging all my alts through the same process. Hence two are stuck at 96%.
Assume map completion is included in world vs world for a reason. Get more people playing this format of the game.
Also agree map completion should not be included in world vs world. Will this change in the future? probably not.
Human slaves most likely.
After 5000 + hours of game play none have dropped for me from an event or mob. Must state though I have had some from the forge over the last 3 months.
Given up concerning myself with the precursor ‘hunt’. If one drops, I’ll consider it a nice bonus.
I’d be all for new races, classes & weapons. Would make a nice edition along with a couple of new maps. Not holding my breath though.
Windows 8 will run the game just fine.
I’m enjoying running around Orr doing events. Still play WvW sometimes. Trying to get my gold up & work toward my first legendary, plus hoping I’ll be fortunate enough with rng to have a precursor drop.
You might not be alone with problems. My own toon went invisible to me the other day. Enemy npc could see me & so could other players. Dead npc are not disappearing after death. Seen risen eagles stuck in mid air for example. Player models are not generating their armor & have black faces & hands and if you get up close when this happens their face & hand area’s have no features.
Even some of my keys stop functioning.
There is something i just cannot understand, why are there so many players that insist on failing certain events to get more “gilded chests” It’s already been shown a lot of times that farming the regular mobs are much more rewarding and much more stable then Champion farming.
Yet i still see so much rage whenever people decide to defend arah(I can get 30+ lootbags from those 10 minutes, not counting how much silk and T6’s drop) and yet people are angry when players do defend said event, because they miss out on 4 gilded chests, ignoring the bags.
I’m wondering why is this? why are players so keen on getting RNG-based gilded chests?
In hope they’ll receive exotic items, precursors etc, loot to salvage & sell. Yet to encounter anyone intentionally failing the event when defending on the NA megaserver. Maybe I am lucky.
Fine dining might be bugged too or at least it was for me. Recipe: feast of truffle steak dinner. Crafted it without gaining any recognition as being part of the collection. Crafted a second time only to be told I already know the recipe.
The current system is not fair since it’s random, therefore it cannot be fair.
Actually, random is completely fair. Every single person has the exact same chance, making it the definition of fair.
People don’t like fair though. They say they do, but what they really mean when they say that is “I want a system whereby I get what I want and other people do not”.
Yeah. Totally fair that some people can get a precursor in their first few tosses into the mystic toilet but the next guy in line throws in hundreds of gold of crap into it doesn’t have anything to show for it.
Totally and completely fair amounts of effort that were equally rewarded. Yep.
Exactly how it works. I’ve had dusk drop twice within 4 minutes as an example. Also lost 2500 gold in the forge trying obtain one precursor; this happened twice.
The only thing that bothers me about map completion is the world vs world component.
Even though I compete in world vs world, it can take a considerable amount of time to get all the vista’s, poi’s & skill points.
For anyone not interested in this form of the game, map completion must be a nightmare.
Why not drop world vs world from map completion?
My main issue with loot is that i am getting fed up with all them Blues and Greens i get (at lvl80). I guess a rare item is really rare, cos i rarely get a rare, unless a rare material also counts as a rare (i get those alot more).
And an Exotic, cant remember the last time i got one.
I have one suggestion, stop giving us (me) lvl80 blue items, when yer lvl80.
I consider lvl80 Green items already useless crap.
Feels so unrewarding at lvl80, getting lvl80 blue weapons and armors.
Has not always been this way. Loot drops in the past were much more rewarding.
Just completed Jormag & most items were simple trash, same with the jungle worm, Ulgoth, shadow behemoth etc. I was going to head off to complete the Taidha Covington event – why waste my time.
While I do not expect tons of rares, exotic’s or precursors to drop on a regular basis; what we receive now is mostly worthless, outside of breaking items down for increasing magic find & base components.
Using greatsword & scepter/pistol combo. Find it great for one on one encounter as the clones & confusion keeps the enemy well away most of the time. Swap to staff when the occasion dictates.
Staff for longer range & mob battles. Dagger/dagger for ‘close combat’. Water skill on the dagger is good because it heals you during the fight.
Rewards are fairly poor everywhere in game now, or at least it appears this way.
Assuming they follow the current pattern for AP rewards, the first pinnacle skin is to be awarded at 29k AP. (pattern being: you get a weapon skin in every 1k chest, except for the 3k chests where you get an armor skin instead)
Lets see. it has taken me almost two years to hit 11k AP. Give another two years and this will be achievable lol
<Got a precursor drop last month.
<Didn’t pay a copper for my legendary precursor because it was forged in the MF.
RNG: Working as intended.
For you.
Vitualtourist Aye, well. I will be talking to Spark and sending my diagnostic reports to ANet. Tena koe my friend.
Jhonnymiller May just be an issue with my town’s connection then :/
Could be. I had an issue earlier this year & it turned out my phone was the problem. Replaced it and all is well. Check your phone line for crackling sounds.
I’m playing out of the South Island on a 10mbps connection.
The game has no monthly subscription. Is a one off purchase. People choose to spend any extra money through the gem store.
Why make it free to play?
Johnnymiller Where are you located may I ask?

Like you tons of world events. I’m running around with 200% MF and starting to wonder if MF has much, if any influence when it comes to loot drops (not including chests, champ boxes & bags).
Rare items are aptly named as they are truly rare. Most drops seems to consist of whites, blue & some greens plus a multitude of dust.
I had not witnessed any precursors drop until a couple of months ago when some players picked them up in Frostgorge Sound during an event that was being farmed at the time.
Yet to pick up a precursor from a mob or event. Of course I also know the chance of this happening is extremely low.
Would go as far as to say, the chances of getting one through the mystic forge are probably a lot higher than a random drop. Having had a couple from the forge.
Doubt things will change in this regard. Although I understand the frustration as I am sure many others do.
Playing out of the Oceania region and rarely have any problems, the last Christmas period being the exception. In general over almost two years of play, things have been fine 90% of the time.
US servers: fewer trolls, more friendly and welcoming, FAR friendlier and lively map chat.
I am in the UK and regret making my EU account. I play on the US megaserver most of the time now. If I could, I would buy 3 more US slots and have my EU characters ported over.
EU feels mostly like a solo game, with people actually telling you to shut up if you try to spark up /m conversation.
As for the lag, it is there and noticeable, particularly at peak times. Worth it though.
Totally agree with you. Transferred to a NA server and found a lot less hostility & attitude. In fact, none at all so far, after 7 months.
If you were looking at crafting a legendary, 1000 gold is not a lot. Considering you would need to either buy lots of items to throw in the mystic forge or buy the precursor outright. Add mats to the equation.
Gold can be converted to gems allowing players to buy items anything – almost anything they desire in the gem store.
WvW is broken. That’s it.
It started with the removal of the queue by EotM as the only balancing factor that ever existed, got out of control by season 2 rewards and is now gone.
If 4 ranks difference is a blow out there is nothing left to play.
More often than not even two places higher can be a blow out.
