Id like to transfer to a lower ranked server, but none of them ever say low pop. So Im stuck in Tier 1 not playing WvW.
You’re right. Servers are all medium & above. Server populations are totally different to world vs world. You could have a high pop server and still struggle to compete in world vs world because a good percentage of players play guild wars for other reasons outside of WvW.
I can think of three servers off the top of my head struggling for world vs world numbers; vabbi, whiteside ridge & fissure of woe in the European bronze league.

Being from New Zealand I can testify to how ROS struggle for numbers during our afternoon & prime time (13 hours ahead of the UK at this time of year). 11pm – 8am UK time it’s not unusual to be out manned & struggle to find other ros players on the map (depending on day of the week).
The queue times on ROS are not too bad. If I log in at 7pm UK time (8am my time) sometimes have to wait maybe 30 minutes maximum. Queue times obviously come down to which part of the globe you’re playing from.
Are the leagues still functioning? out of the loop after a month away.
To make my proposition clear I’m attaching this ladder table with separate gold,silver and bronze divisions.
My idea is to make the match-up like it was in leagues where every server had to fight the server inside their current division – gold,silver and bronze.
This was a better match-up system why ? – because you was able to fight other servers every other week and the duplicating match ups was only 2 (same 3 servers).I’ve said that they will be able to fight other gold servers and if the Silver #1 increases the gab with #2 silver than #1 can go up and replace #9 gold server and fight vs #8 and #7 gold for 1 week.After this 1 week if the old #1 silver who moved up have bad score result it will drop back to silver division and the old #9 can rise up to gold gain.
Thats the basic way i can explain the system I’m proposing and i say it again this system don’t involve #1 Gold server to fight #9 Bronze. (e.g. Vizunag vs Vabbi)
Fighting will be only inside the gold,silver and bronze with low chance of #9 gold able to flip place with #1 silver and #9 Silver to replace #1 bronze depending on scores only for 1 or 2 weeks again depending on scores.
I took a month away from the game. Before taking a break we were matched against one particular server two weeks in a row; they totally dominated and were promoted to silver league. Came back two days ago to discover we were up against them again. Guess what? we are matched against this server in the latest round starting today.
We are in the bronze league matched against two silver league servers. The outcome will be interesting. Guessing match ups changed over the last month? As I was under the illusion you fought servers within your own league,

Is this still around? As I could not find any information on it. Found the ash legion spy kit which grants 10s of stealth, you have to stay in place to remain camouflaged but cannot be used in WvW.
I bought lots of them when it was useful in dungeons… So I still got them… Never tested on wvw cus I run with zergs…
Come to the think of it my guildy n myself ran into this warrior some wks back that is invul for a good 30++ secs… Condition dmg n disables did nothing to him for the whole duration but when he sees a few more players coming he fled but the whole he received no damage what so ever… Btw my guildy was on his necro n I’m on my mesmer…
Been in battles before too with the opposing player taking almost no damage from long bow, short bow & pet combined before being 2 hit killed. Just assumed they had a superior survivability build.
hard to distinguish between highly skilled players & ones that could potentially be cheating – for me at least.
How long before GW2 ends up introducing anti cheat measures like punkbuster? Always got a lot of hilarity out watching people being booted for whatever hack they were trying to play with in battlefield 3

Nothing has changed playing against the no queue servers in our league; three servers in our league have no queues. Unless those sides play one another things are the same – two stronger sides wipe them off the map. Merging certain servers might go a way to solving this “might”.
I dunno. We fought off a blob last night at our keep on eb for an hour, before being over whelmed and eventually losing the whole map. When facing superior numbers defense is becoming next to impossible.
Good on you for voicing your frustration. As we know from reading many threads here this is a common problem in most if not all leagues. It’s not going to change anything though.
Sides need to learn & adapt to opponents play style; going to help a lot if servers wanting to try & win rounds. Facing a 60 man blob, form one too if you have player numbers. Downside? massive skill lag.
This game is becoming less about guild vs guild & more about zerg vs zerg or blob vs blob.

Was always under the impression nodes changed location every week.
All games can become stale after a while; There comes a time when you need to take a break or move to another game. So far a year’s worth of play for me without map completion dungeon runs or legendary crafting. Only one other game provided longer online playing time for me.
Give up for two weeks? No one has given up; seen plenty of players on the maps but just not working as a team? to combat the play style. People appear more interested in playing as guilds rather than forming into a couple of giant blobs which means an inability to counter the couple of giant blobs roaming the maps – such is life. lets not forget one German server was beaten, their play style was vastly different.
That rock also comes in handy for other purposes. Like say, for instance, you want to hold an impromptu dance party in kodan tonics with dolyak backup singers. That rock is the ideal spot for such shenanigans.
(Serious Note: There are two other exits from spawn. No one gets spawned unless those are camped too. Most of the time people allow themselves to get camped b/c the only enemies they can find are the ones camping them. After all, a fight where you’re at a disadvantage is better than no fight at all.)

If they are camping your spawn with 50+ people, they don’t want you on that map to upgrade. Either leave the map or be smart and go out a different exit and disrupt supply.
Or you know, the most common of choices, come to the forums and complain. Like its going to change anything.
Every body has a right to express opinions on the forums whether agreed with or not. It’s pathetically bad gamesmanship in any game this one being no different. Most of know there are other ways around the map but this is not the point.
As you can see in the title I am looking for a new guild; the one I started never took really took off and was designed more as a deterrent because it became a frustration getting numerous invites or being part of guilds that never did anything outside of recruiting.
Preferably a guild doing WvW, occasional PvE stuff & dungeons (has never done a dungeon run). My time zone in oceanic.
My player name on Surmia is ranger of akatosh. More than happy to run around doing as instructed. My level is 383 so reasonably experienced in the WvW realm.

i like how ranks are character bound. just like daoc. you become renowned for your rank. daoc did rvr/wvw correct.
How to you become renowned for rank? Outside of playing one character for a long period of time it means little. Only advantage are the extra ability points.
Guild commander tag – this can be an item built under art of war in the guild upgrade panel, making it only visible to other guild members.
Never had an issue running with a zerg as a ranger – you fight from the tail end of the zerg or group you’re with. Much better chance of survival while providing ranged attacks with the long bow. Long bows do a fair amount of damage to more than one player.

When another server gets to camping the spawn gates, I like to use a different point of entrance. The long way around saves gold on armor repairs.
From my experience against spawn camping zergs/blobs; you move the long way around, do your best to liberate a supply camp or tower & before you know it the zerg/blob has arrived decimating you in the process.
Bloody annoying when sides spawn kill – what does it achieve outside of making the game no fun for the opposing servers; especially so if they happen to be the side with total ascendency. When the shoe is on the other foot, sides playing this style will be the first to moan.

Where as in our league the top side is out there by itself. Leaving 2-6 battling one another followed by 7-9.
In the perfect world all rounds would produce even & fair fights; this was not case for a while before leagues were introduced. Fix the server population disparity.
Going back 3 months ago and beyond a lot of the match ups were good with the occasional mismatch. For whatever reason this changed. Lots of guilds/players decided to change servers or people stop playing (talking in general here). As an example the last time I played in a mismatch like this current round was against Millers Sound; their server ranking was about 10 places higher so it was to be expected.
Leagues, no leagues, four leagues….this does not address the issue of server population disparity which creates the mismatch.

Zerging & blobbing are always going to happen no matter what. The issue is defense of anything is becoming next to impossible when facing superior number. You win back a keep, no time to upgrade let alone build up any defense because the enemy drained supplies etc then a large zerg/blob arrives at the gate and tears down the gate with or without siege.
Even fully upgraded keep’s can be steam rolled in a relatively short period of time with the aid of golems.
Yes, this is the mentality the leagues need. I did read somewhere else your server were struggling in the silver league.

Last time Drakkar faced UW, they ended the week with more points than Drakkar and if they start in the next bronzeleague perhaps a few more guilds will play there.
Sadly that there are 27 Servers and not 24 or 28. 4 leagues would be better for all of us i think. Servers like Drakkar, GH or UW are too strong to play in bronze and not strong enough for silver.
Odd is it not? Then again all leagues are suffering the same. two or three server dominate everyone else in each league…
To that effect, DL were more up for the fight than we were, it’s as simple as that, so kudos!

I dont care if there are 80 of them and only 30 of us, but when they run away with such numbers to hide behind their walls and ACs, it’s just laughable.
The germans have got the organisation and the teamwork, which is a hell of a lot better to most other EU servers, but when it comes to fights, they will only fight if they think they are guaranteed to win. All other times it’s run back to a tower or WP out.
So? You are flaming cause we will possibly win. War is about fighting with tactic. I guess your server could do the same (:

I agree. This has been my point throughout this thread (broken record). Counter the enemy with the same tactics, something obviously people do not want to do. If we ever want a chance at trying to win the league play styles need to adapt.

You’re constant ticking with 400+. This isn’t a problem for me, but it’s a problem for me, when I’m trying to join EB, get out of spawn and directly get owned by some spawncampers and get shot with mortars, this is just stupid in my eyes.
I hope for a bit more friendly gameplay, I mean, this is a game and no real war guys…
This would be my one complaint in this round & the other German server did exactly the same thing, my only hope is surmia are not guilty of this as well.

Until wvw is redesiged, it’ll be what it has been:
1) Either you fight the same worlds/servers for sometimes months on end and have close match ups, which is what we had before the RNG +8/-8 ranks systems went into place. (Fighting the same servers got stale and boring, so…. Anet changed it up and did #2 below.)
-OR-
2) You have rotfstomp match ups often (you could be the stomper or the stomped) and sometimes have a close match up when you fight adjacent ranks. The league is bascially this approach with a slight modification on the +/- match ups and it groups servers up – gold, silver, and bronze.
I personally like an idea that I’ve seen posted in these forums that involves factions based on the 3 WvW colors – green, blue, and red. Where groups of severs belong to a faction color based on rank. Basically, each faction color has strong, medium and weak servers in them to try and make things fair.
There’s a youtube video created by El Taquito Bandito/battleaxemultimedia that explains it all. He says it’s not his idea, but he put the idea together in a video form, which I greatly appreciate. IMO it’s a very good video and is worth checking out and could potentially save us from option 1 and 2 above.

Weirdest instance I have seen involved a necromancer a couple of weeks back; our group encountered a group of five players; killed off everyone with the exception of the necromancer. None of our weapons could damage this player and we tried for perhaps 3-4 mins, continually being told the char was invulnerable – like they had righteous indignation.
People might learn the hard way by transferring to the strongest servers and find they have little to no chance of getting any game play because of the large queues.
Thought about heading back to Piken Square myself before realizing in doing so my chance of any WvW game time would become non existent as they are in tier 1.
Life was the same before the leagues; lopsided match up were common. Remember well being up against the 11th ranked server when our rank was 20 – the match up was horrific. Plenty of sides are encountering tough match ups in all leagues. Appears to be quite a gulf between say the top 3 sides vs the rest.
Really thought RoS would put up more of a challenge so far. They steam rolled us last week, and they beat dz by like 50k. Ah well, selfishly cheering for Drakkar I guess.
Just wanted to point out some irony though: RoS whining about blobbing even though all I saw last week were guilds running together to make 50 man groups (KISS/NP come to mind) and I also thought it was funny we saw the LOOT “spy” on our bl last week and they found a DL one. Our kitten tier getting serious yo.
It’s been hilarious this morning; “drakkar are no good in the open field, they suck” (one comment read) – drakkar proceeds to steam roll us while trying to take Quentin after almost taking the keep.
As for whinging about blobs; my point is if we want to combat the blob, we need to wake up and form one too.
Funny how guilds returning to servers or new people joining from other servers is considered bandwagoning – so in other words no server should be allowed to recruit to try and make themselves more competitive? If had not been for the guilds returning etc the last 3 matches would have had a much different outcome. Of course this does not guarantee ros will win all matches let alone the league.
Thought the battles with rof last week were awesome and was quite surprised at the scoreline at the end of the match. Same with the match against Dz the previous week as both sides had it over us in previous match up’s.

Big time; they just took our garrison on surmia map maybe 10 vs 70. The drakkar blob is gigantic. Either they have two large blobs or they are going from map to map each time we try to capture or defend.
Last time I played against drakkar competing was no problem, not this time.
We have enough players, no out manned icon showing – unfortunately for us the tactics are not the same as the leading servers which means we’re finding it hard to defend anything. Lots of guilds roaming around & this does not work when we are facing 70 + blobs.
Should people be awarded to fight? surely the stuff we get now is enough?
Who cares who is better; lets face it ros needs to blob if we want to counter drakkar; use the same tactic’s and we might get somewhere. Do what the enemy does.
As I said, suggestions open to disagreement or otherwise.
Tonight we re-took our keep only to lose it about 5 mins later to a blob not using siege, they destroyed the door pvd and did it in quick fashion.
As for the spawn point, yes you can go other directions; to my point of view camping in anyone’s spawn is bad gamesmanship in any game and serves no advantage.
I agree or as in my topic thread, limit the amount sides can use or get rid of them altogether (golems that is).

There were promises ros would win the bronze league? guess I missed that lol. On a personal basis whether we win or not is of no concern.
So nothing has changed in regard to uneven match ups with the leagues and probably never will until Anet find a way to balance populations out (which it look’s like they are working on).
I know lots of suggestions are discussed on here and some of the ones listed below may well have featured before.
1. Your keep/garrison is over run by the enemy & captured. Supplies automatically drain to zero once flipped. No siege can be placed to prevent the keep being re-taken. The side capturing the keep/garrison must leave straight away and a buff is in place for an hour which only allows the ‘home server’ to recapture . This might help weak servers or servers with lack of coverage during certain times periods to gain a foot hold back on a map whether it be their home map or EB.
2. Get rid of player vs door; you want to take a tower/keep/garrison; the side attacking needs to rely solely on siege. The combination of rams & player vs door can be extremely lethal making defense ineffective.
3. This probably can only apply to EB; at the moment our keep is on Ruins of Surmia valley. The surrounding towers are langor, Bravost, Quentin & Durios.
If any of the towers around a keep are captured once again the supply automatically drops to zero forcing the enemy to rely on supplies from captured supply camps if they want to proceed on taking other objectives or building defense in the tower.
4. Limit the use of siege golems or get rid of them altogether; think most us know how easy it can be to capture objectives doing a golem rush. Nothing like watching 10 golems heading for your keep and knowing you’re pretty much kittened.
5. Prevent spawn camping. Players need a chance to move out of the spawn without being massacred by zergs/blobs camping in front of the spawn with ac’s & balista’s set up and i’m not talking about when the said zerg or blob is trying to capture the keep.
6. You lose an objective; all players automatically re-spawn to their keep (unless it’s contested) or map starting point which will prevent players hiding.
My question is why the players whinging about commanders making mistakes/bad decisions do not go buy a commander manual and show everyone how it is done. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians in WvW. I have never been a commander and it’s simply an observation.
The know it all’s are enough to drive a person from the game at times.
Team speak is there for a reason; it enables people to communicate about what is happening & where. Good scenario is when an enemy server has captured a tower, your group goes to re-take it and encounter a couple of defenders; before you know it a zerg arrives steam rolling your attempt.
Another observation from my server; guilds strictly trying to play guild vs guild do not display commander icons as they do not want the masses following their guild around.
blacktide srsly? RoF and Dzag are much stronger.
In a matchup vs RoS and Drakkar they will not even get near to 100k points.
Only matchups with 3 nearly even opponents will be first and last week – DL RoF Dzag
RoS has the advantage that all the guilds moved there in the last week so they stayed 4th place before league and so they don’t have to face two strong servers in one matchup. but i would like to see how they managed a matchup RoS-RoF-Dzag.
Think we finished with about a 150k point lead over rof last week and about 100k point win over DZ. Not going to be case against drakkar.
RoS would much prefer two strong servers to one strong and one weak. Drakkar Lake have 30+ blob overnight outside of their timezone and they only have one server to go against.
First side we have come up against in recent weeks if not month’s that have what look’s like 24/7 strong coverage. Mind you the shoe was on the other foot in the last three match ups.
If players are spying for other servers how much success does it lead to in reality?

Yes and no – I like the achievements as the old ones are almost impossible to finish and some sort of reward at the end of season will be nice. Really dont like the living world stuff in the merc camps – that makes those areas really messy and seems like a pretty random thing to do.
The matchups have been brutal for us the last few weeks (WSR), the winning team having 5 or 6 times the score of us for the last 2 weeks and we are heading for a battering this week too. The commanders and a lot of the players are staying away because its pretty demoralising running into such huge zergs whenever you try to take or defend something (I do accept there are different types of problems that bigger servers have).
I would much prefer a straight ladder system for all servers where the winner of the weekly matchup moves up a place and the loser moves down so that we can play servers of a similar wvw strength (vabbi and FoW for us for instance) each week and not just a week or two per season.
In the same match as you (surmia) we are getting totally over run too at the moment; gone from a 600 point lead this morning to being about 12k behind now lol. Ros has suffered from the same problem in the past of people not playing when the match up’s are tough.
