Is the difference between a T2 and T3 server really big? Right now, there aren’t any T2 servers that could keep up with the numbers and coverage that BG and JQ have. I don’t think handicapping either server would solve anything but it would sure cause a lot of complaining. A native player shouldn’t be penalized on rewards or anything of the sort because of where they chose to play when they bought the game. It just means that rewards need to be based on your personal participation but not too out of reach for casual WvW players. The only rewards you can give based on placement in the tournament would be novelty ones such as finishers.
Yes there is a big difference in numbers between t2 & t3 server (EU), surely this will be the same on NA servers. You will find big disparity in numbers between tier 3 servers, tier 2 servers & no doubt tier 1 servers without matches between the different tiers.
The match we had two weeks ago was 19vs18vs14 in ranking. 14 totally dominated the round winning by between 150,000 – 200,000 points. Not only did the 14th ranked server have vastly superior numbers they also had around the clock coverage.
Servers two places higher in rank can be a difficult proposition.
Like others stated in here, the lag has returned over the last couple of days. For me the lag is at its worst during UK prime time. I have no trouble downloading any content or updates as this worked fine this morning when updating the game on windows 8. Only an issue trying to pve and has made world vs world a no go zone.
Also noticed it has an effect on the forums too when this is going on – very slow to load.
Playing out of New Zealand.

Even good guilds aren’t THAT good. But a feeling of superiority drives them, this feeling or aura or whatever, makes others think they are that great. Even though they aint.
Ain’t that the truth. One of the guilds on my server said they did not want anyone else running with them – no problem. Then came the statement about their superiority to everyone else and how much they can achieve. Having witnessed some of the decisions by their commander its highly debatable. Although when something goes wrong apparently all the players lack skill; never the commanders fault.
Have to love Elitist guilds. Had a couple of these on the server for a bit, they typically transfer from server to server over time, they come in telling everyone how great they are but if you want to run with them you have to 100% rep, change your class and build to match what they want, etc., etc. They poach a few players and then jump to their next bandwagon. Funny thing was I saw them wipe many times to even numbers, wonder why they never posted those vids…
Yeah; there are rumours floating around this particular guild is on the move. I know they came from another server a few months back. Not as bad as one other guild we had on our server. Verbal abuse at non guild members was not uncommon if players stumbled upon them and tried to help, if non guild members were downed in a fight they had no problem telling the said player/players how terrible their abilities were. Nor would they revive anyone outside of their own guild members. Fortunately they moved on to torment another server.
LAG. DISCONNECTS. peak time BT ISP throttle?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: johnnymiller.5968
Dear Anet, you need to be aware of this issue and ideally contact British Telecom ISP in the UK to resolve the problem that has been created in the last few days.
I’m playing via British Telecom ISP in the UK on their Infinity Unlimited package (option 2). Today, once again at 5pm GMT the game suddenly became unplayably lagged, with minutes of lag and the accompanying disconnects. Other internet traffic (e.g. youtube or lovefilm) works fine during the ‘gw2 only lag’. This has been going on for several days with peak times effectively throttled to nothing.
The reason I’m sure it’s throttling somewhere is because:
- happens each around start of prime time (17:00) and ends around end of prime time (23:00) etc
- it happened on 2 computers at same time,
- other internet useage working totally fine during the specific gw2 no traffic lag, e.g.g lovefilm or youtube or general surfing working fine during the GW2 specific lag
- connecting any of the computers via any hardware/router variation, cabled or wireless through the other (non-BT) internet connection produces a stable peak-time connection to GW2 without the crushing lag and disconnects, once it’s not through BT
- seen exactly these symptoms during the RIFT beta because of an IP / server change at rift putting them into BT’s p2p throttle blacklist
TRION (rift’s devs) had to contact BT to get themselves whitelisted out of the traffic management throttling blackhole during peak times.
It’s possible it’s not currently every BT package that this traffic management profile is being applied to, but BT is the largest ISP in the UK so it’s an issue worth solving to enable your UK playerbase to continue playing.
I’m playing out of New Zealand and experiencing unplayability too; generally it starts around 10pm nz (9am UK) and becomes progressively worse. Its now approx 8.30am nz (7.30pm UK). I can play pve with reasonable lag ( 3 second delay); cannot play world vs world at all.
You may well find this is not just a UK issue although it appears to happen during UK prime time.
- no pvd
- get rid of golems
- Some sort of out manned buff on keeps/garrisons making them either impossible to capture or making it impossible for the enemy to build up siege inside. (wishful thinking).
- account bound wxp
- balance siege so it becomes a viable defensive weapon.
- cut down the cost of upgrades to towers/keeps/camps & garrisons – making upgrades a little more worthwhile when involved in bad mismatches.
They could simply adopt a Kill/Death ratio scoring system. Then it wouldn’t matter how many players a server has only how many they kill versus how many times they die. Skill groups and skilled players would then become extremely important in determining victory which is what they should be focusing on anyway.
There are holes with this system but it is still better than the current one.
With the large disparity in player numbers between servers this would not work. Does not matter how skilled players are or think they are, when you have say 10 vs 60 your chance of survival is very slim. Kill/death ratio is unlikely to be in your favour.
How dare they run up levels……whats the world coming to.

Starting to see more & more. From flying mesmers to invincible auto healing enemy. Even on our server, when a group of us were in the process of capturing a tower. A couple of minutes (approx) after we started ramming the door a group of players appeared in the lord. None of the walls were down. So either a mesmer had been hiding in the tower for a period of time or they glitched in somehow.
I do both roaming and zerging…
In the end i have to play pve to earn money for food <.<I don t want even think to commanders siege costs..
badges of honor pay for siege. The costly part is upgrading keeps, towers etc. Especially so if they are being overrun all the time.
The majority of money I have made in this game has come from playing WvW. So yes its certainly possible to make gold & a reasonable amount.
So its starts just when TESO headstart begins, what a coincidence…………….. NOT. Just pathetic.
TESO is awful. Won’t matter anyways.
Agreed; teso is bad.
So Bronze, silver & gold are gone. You win a round & could conceivably end up 20 vs 14 vs 10 in the server ranking, simply because all three server won a round?

There I thought I just had a dumb moment. I mean I linked the WP in Map chat when I came over from home BL yesterday, but then ended up at hills. After the quick wtf I thought I had made a mistake at the time, but travelling from home BL today the same thing happened.
I would check the BLs but I don’t think it has a WP atm.
I traveled from the borderlands map too. Tried it 4 times to make sure I was not going crazy.
I do not know if anyone else is having this problem with the lowlands way point in world vs world. Whenever I click the lowlands way point and get asked "travel to lowlands way point?’, followed by yes, I get deposited at the hills way point instead.
Yes, I have the exact same problem.
Repetitive match ups are fine if the sides you’re playing are evenly matched. Random match ups are good too, unless you get matched against one very strong side which happens more often than not. During last weeks round the server ranked 16 was up against no.8. The population disparity in world vs world against a side two places higher can be bad enough.
Why do people always assume when something is new and people want to try it out – or a certain aspect of this game is popular, players are on the karma train? Should the dev’s do away with all karma from world vs world & EoTM just to satisfy a percentage of players.
I have nearly 7 million karma from playing world vs world & PvE . Do I play WvW or PvE because I want karma? No, it’s a by-product just like gold.
Our guild had a blast in EotM last night! With the current state of scoring, and the tower humping/siege addicted culture it has spawned on some servers, the old maps can die a slow death for all I care.
Pathetic is it not? Exactly what we have faced this week. People have just given up because of the negative tactics of one particular side. At the moment our ppt is 50 due to I guess a few ‘hardcore’ players trying.
I went into Eotm for the first time last night and it was quite refreshing.
No queues; very few on any of the regular maps – not due to eotm though.
I’ve tried playing WvW leading up to this release, for the past few weeks. I love the new map, the design and asthetics are amazing.
But here is my WvW experience from the last few weeks -
Find an uncontested waypoint.
Run around until I can find a commander to follow (usually takes a few minutes).
Spend a few minutes following him around, until I get defeated.Rinse, repeat.
Is it just me, or are there not enough waypoints? I spend more time wandering through empy sections of the map than I do in a battle. And when I am in a battle, generally don’t last very long (playing as an Ele).
You’ll learn soon enough why more way points are bad idea. Playing any class in world vs world is a learning curve when you are new to the format. Any class can be downed quick in large battles or by skilled opponents.
There is plenty of information online about character builds for world vs world and the roll each class plays.
Hit Y and go invisible.
Best move would be to work on converting all of WvW into a green/blue/red battle, not a server one. Borderlands/EBG are already dead for most servers (outside of certain prime times). Edge of the Mists should stay active nearly 24/7 because of its design. The other maps should be converted over.
Agreed!
It is understandable; realistically would you expect the vast numbers on eotm to try & roam?
In my opinion, this would actually be a perfect example of a ‘grind’.
I am well over level 30, so I am not affected by this change. Thus my argument is purely for the sake of new players, and to eliminate a change that really adds no value to the game.
Asking players, who may not enjoy WvW, to earn enough Badges of Honor was already seen as a ‘grind’ for such players and was offset by including Badges of Honor as a part of the Achievement Chest Rewards.
Having ‘solved’ this problem, you have now chosen to make WvW once again compulsory in the process of crafting a legendary, which not to mention has not been the case for all those who have recently crafted them, and thus is rather unfair.
I understand that you are trying to urge more players to move to WvW, as this is where players are able to create more interest in the game rather than the developers having to come up with content at a ridiculous pace, and I am not complaining about that, it is one solution.
However, there are plenty of others, such as not completely throwing away dungeons after their patch, and perhaps involving them in a different aspect of the game, as you have done with the new Fractals.
Again, I do not wish to offend anybody, and do not want to create any arguments, I am purely stating my observations of what could be a rather depressing, non-value adding burden to be placed on new players wishing to create their first legendary, which as well already know is a process that has been made much longer given the comparative lack of Karma that we are now able to obtain.
Kind regards,
Edward
You also need to grind through dungeons for different gifts which can be a frustrating experience in itself.
My suggestion; Restrict WvW queues to reasonable ratios between worlds. This will be better for the game in the long run.
Today I encountered something like 30-1 odds in; Devona’s Rest Borderland, Anvil Rock Borderland and Eternal Battlegrounds in the same half an hour or so.
WvW is quickly becoming another Queensdale. Players from heavily populated servers “earn” rewards with no risk whatever and simply run over anyone silly enough to resist.
I’m ready to walk away from WvW and GW2. A good fight is one thing. Being run over for the amusement of another server’s players is quite another.
I feel your pain; match ups against servers 2 or more places higher turn out to be enormously one sided affairs. People get tired of the massive (do not log in) mismatches, especially when sides are 130,000 points a head half through the match & seem to go out of their way to kill the round completely. I am all for random matches, unfortunately it does not work without balance.
Heck the 16th ranked server is currently up against no.8
PvP can be balanced, why not the same for world vs world?
Maybe the out manned buff should apply to a garrison on the bl map and the keep on eb giving any side at least a chance to gain a foot hold back on the maps.
The attached screenshot gives a sample of what we face this week and no doubt other sides. 11 players decimated by goodness knows how many. Normally we face 5 to 6 times the amount of enemy in the screenshot (or more).

doesn’t bother me considering siege seems to be so ineffective against the giant blobs capping everything.
Yes siege is the only way to counter the blob however ineffectual it may be. Doesnt it kitten you off when a server uses siege when they have even to greater numbers? This has happened to me plenty of times, and causes a lot of my guildies to log out. What is the point in trying to cap anything (only reason for us to cap is to draw out their forces) when we will melt to AC spam? I cant imagine the people camping in a tower to be having any fun when they arent facing any enemies 90% of the time.
Yes. Just happened to us. Trying to defend the eb keep against 50-100 enemy multiple golems. We had ac’s, canons, mortars, trebs and perhaps 25 players inside. Siege had little impact outside of taking out a couple of their golems.
Sides do camp in towers & keeps and quite happily sit inside all day & night until the home server tries to regain any lost territory. Before you know it the friendly blob arrives to wipe you out.
After losing the eb keep enemy server proceeded to lay down a whole lot of siege inside. They will sit in the keep until no one can be bothered trying to retake it.
To cap things off they camp in the spawn with or without siege.

Like others stated; make your own group & read party descriptions on lfg. I have been through 5 dungeons with a ranger as well as having other rangers in the groups. Only kick I got was for being inexperienced in a dungeon which I should have stated at the beginning of the run.
Hoping to get a answer from A net on this one. Why exactly is every single NA server listed as very high or full? I have a hard time believing they are very high since there is a HUGE difference in the population of say Darkhaven and Tarnished Coast.
Is this just a cash grab move by you since it cost 1800 gems to transfer to a very high server. TBH is quite misleading and very annoying. I started this game a few months ago and when I was looking for a server my only thought was not getting stuck on a server that is low population and has difficulties completing content, and now I’m stuck on just that and only option is to spend money to transfer off. Yes I can guest, and in fact that has been the only way I have been able to complete the new LS, but its still irritating the server populations are so misleading.
Think the issue is a lack of people in areas like Orr. Especially irritating if you are trying to get map completion because certain parts of the maps are contested more often than not. Trying to venture into those areas is more or less suicide.
489 chests & yet to obtain anything ascended. Lots of rare items and the occasional exotic.
Well, FSP doesn’t like to blob at all, guild groups all over, except for EB, obviously you have fought us. But I’d like to include that our EU timeslot is completely stacked, EU prime. Rest timezones are free. A great community with a huge PvE population.. :/ I greatly admire roaming from your guild.
Used to know Kodash is the best roaming server but man, their zergs are huge.
Ty for the compliment but i sadly don’t think FSP is the server for us i have seen the blobs overall and fought you guys plenty i don’t think it will differ much from where we are now.
Nah not telling you have to be here, it was just about the “stacked primetime” thingy as not looking for anyone at the timezone. Trust me it’s a lot different here in FSP, I was there at your server early leagues. You could try Surmia, but their EB zerg is even bigger than FSP to be fair lol, but border coverage lacks alot. Aurora has pretty good roamers and I’m impressed with them. Since the leagues, I don’t see roaming conditions anywhere in EU tbh, either you’ll end up in a blob or fighting crickets around at windmill. There is no less blobby server, it’s the quality of roamers of a server. Well, scout for yourself, that’s the best way to know, and I guess, lower tiers would be a perfect suit.
You have to be joking? Surmia zerg bigger than Fsp? Just not factual . Must be two surmia servers because the one I’m playing on is totally outmanned by your side – just look at the current score. Not even one day into the match and fsp are 12000 points ahead.
Heck I might even add a screenshot next time the blob arrives at our keep lol
The screenshot was taken late oceanic prime time with half the blob inside the keep.
(edited by johnnymiller.5968)
As the title states we need players/guilds from SEA & Oceania. There is a gaping hole in coverage on Ruins of Surmia, especially during Oceanic prime time. We might be lucky to have 5-10 players on a map (even one map) at this time of night and are constantly out manned and it’s not uncommon for us to recapture our keep on the eternal battle grounds map, 5 times or more in a 2 hour period – as an example.
League wise we are Bronze, although currently matched against silver league sides.
Reality is; if we are going to be competitive against tougher opposition, a larger world vs world population base is required.
See screenshot; taken late oceanic prime time. No one in the keep & another 6 players at Mendons.
(edited by johnnymiller.5968)
You’re server is ranked 14th at the moment; how high were you? Unfortunately for my server we are matched against you this week and should not be as it’s a totally imbalanced match up (same kitten, different week?) lol
I’m typing this during oceanic prime time. Currently you’re side is over running millers sound keep so obviously you are not short on sea or oceanic players.
Haha. Was chased down & killed by a ranger today and this ranger was powerful or just high survivability. Me- necromancer. Staff, dagger, war horn – corrosive cloud, plague, epidemic, locust swarm etc. More or less everything I threw their way did virtually no damage.
Whatever build the player had was impressive.
The server balancing is problematic. Anet seems to think we enjoy the variety of fighting a bunch of different servers, but that really isn’t the case. We enjoy fighting against other servers that present a challenge without overwhelming us. If we end up fighting the same two servers over and over that is better than being unbalanced. I have been dominated and have been on the dominating server due to poor balancing. Neither is very much fun.
A lot of people did complain about being matched against the same sides week after week. Variety is good. Is it Anet’s fault not all servers have the same world vs world population base? Or servers lack coverage during certain time periods?
PvP has it right; you play as one of two colours and sides are auto balanced. Could this be applied to world vs world…..mind you it could make guilds impractical in world vs world.
We had one side contest our keep anytime they planned on attacking the surrounding towers & camps. First time any side I had played against had done this and thought it was smart play. Make it difficult as possible for the enemy.
On ros we are either matched against other bronze league sides which we are too strong for or against silver sides which are too strong for us. You can almost predict the sides you’ll be matched against. Unfortunately for us we are ‘in between’ side – too strong for one league & not the other.
If a servers goal is to win rounds & climb the ranks you need to play for PPT.
Don’t feel so bad. I’m an oceanic based player & it can be common for us to have about 5 people during oceanic prime time trying to compete against up to 50 enemy.
You’re right; if you do not have the numbers defensive siege is useless. Try & recapture towers, keeps & camps only to be steamrolled. PvD does not help the situation either.

I agree; we should be able to sell any excess material. I have 2000 bloodstone, 2000 empy & close to 1500 dragonite. Any dropped from world vs world now gets destroyed. What a waste.
You my friend might need to find another guild.
OMG this is just crazy been getting lag the last couple of days 2 min delays, skills flashing, reloging dead please sort it out. At its worst it’s unplayable.
Country: New Zealand
Server: Gandara
Country: New Zealand
Server: Ruins of Surmia
If you look at other topics about this its not just Norwegians having this problem. People from different parts of the world are experiencing the same issues. PvP is almost unplayable followed by world vs world during EU prime time as well as PvE which is laggy but not as bad as the aforementioned
Same for NM in United States, but it seems only to happen during peak hours between 6-11pm.
Same problem for me. Playing out of New Zealand on a EU server. The lag & disconnects happen when trying to play during EU prime time.
Country: New Zealand
Latency: as high as 500 – often happens during EU peak times.
Has become progressively worse over these last two weeks.
Followed trouble shooting guidelines posted within these forums. Rebooted modem etc with no success.
