I am a shatter heavy mesmer myself although NOT SUPER GC becaues my armor stats are in the power/tough/vit but my accessories are in the prec category… I feel that a tanky guardian puts up a more fun and interesting fight than a thief… But honestly I just wanted to thank you for ASKING advice before jumping on the OMG so OP NERF INTO GROUND NOW band wagon… I am sure you also have the thanks of all mesmers that would come across this.

IF that be the case they should make it so that all AOE’s can be blinded/dodged… Or is supply drop target based? An interesting solution would be to change time warp to behave how it does underwater… Like many have suggested it already centers it on the mesmer… IT HAS A CAST TIME 2 seconds I believe… Would that make you people happy?
Did you just skip all of what he said. These were all things that can help YOUR TEAM…. Except maybe lich form but still… that’s just cool. Imagine a mesmer/engi team combo lololol two time warps and 3 supply crates… hahaha JUST AWESOME… But lets take it a step further… Do a warrior/guardian/Thief/Engi/Ranger Scenario… Ranger drops his elite entangle… Followed by the engineers supply drop… Oh dang ranger went down…. Here comes battle standard…. Now that people have boons the guardian can use tome of courage while being protected by his four other allies that all just got boons from the warrior and so on…. Wow… Great scenario of how elites can change a battle… Also just using one of these elites like supply drop on an unprepared enemy has a great effect.
As a bunker guardian make sure you have your power cleanse/condition removals ready… Finding the actual mesmer is relatively easy as well because they don’t have the predictable movement of clones and so on.. Also if they have sigils/signets/nutrition or badges on their name it only shows on the mesmer and not the clones… They can be tough to fight but I have lost to bunker guardians… You guys just so many boons lol.
Even if it were true that the ONLY reason people bring mesmer is for Time Warp, that must be one insanely good reason.
The fact of the matter is that Time Warp right now is a bonus. A “no risk” fire and forget(and abuse) button to turn just about any fight in the caster’s favor. Mesmers actually operate just fine without Time Warp. Notice how long the CD on Time Warp is? Most of the time Mesmers aren’t even using it and they’re STILL considered by many to be OP.
I would like to hear of all these elites that other classes have that can “turn the tide of battle.” At best those other elites are highly situational, some of which are COMBINED with Time Warp and abused.
All elites are no risk, and none are fire and forget.
All of the below have the ability to completely turn around a losing battle.
Tome of Courage – Can heal the entire party to full health. Basically, massive burst of healing and support. Doesn’t need much coordination. Things get bad, use it.
Battle Standard – Revives and grants three powerful boons to all allies. Basically, massive burst of boons. Doesn’t require much coordination. Things get bad or need an extra edge, use it.
Supply Crate – Heals, CCs, distracts, and does damage. Basically, a massive burst of everything. Requires some coordination to get the best use of, but still works as a good “oh kitten” to turn the tide.
Entangle – Lengthy CC. Basically, a massive burst of CC. Requires some coordination to get the best out of. Rarely a waste when used.
Thieves Guild – two powerful allies that can’t be ignored by the opponent. Basically, a massive burst of support. Requires no coordination. Use it when you want to win.
Tornado – Position dominance and CC. Basically, a get your * out of my way button. Requires little coordination. Just let your teammates know that you’re going to clear the area.
Time Warp – Speeds up skills for 10 seconds. Basically, a massive burst of damage. Helpful on other skills, if they are not on recharge. Requires the most coordination to use effectively. Can’t just be placed anywhere. Has to be placed at the right place (where all your kittens are standing) at the right time (when your kittens have their skills ready).
Lich Form – Necro on steriods. Requires little coordination.All of the above are no risk, can turn the tide, and maybe a few can be fire-and-forget (Thieves Guild). However, TW is not fire-and-forget. Unless you have a completely different definition of that. Mesmers don’t need to be punished just because you don’t like them.

All of these are possibly too OP if Timewarp gets nerfed I suggest a supply drop nerf so that I can take out an engineer without getting killed when he does it. Or the whining can just stop all together.
The bug here is that it only applies the extra health for 5-10 seconds after summoning? But I run my skills with a decoy/mirror images/signet of illusions I really like it so that I can recharge my shatters whenever I please instead of getting to 50% health.
Exactly… I think almost every class has bugs that make it either OP on intentionally or as a mistake… There are also several bugs that severely weaken classes when they should strengthen them!
@Influx, Test what works for you but remember you dont need al 25 stacks on the stacking to be viable. I generaly kill some npc,s (cayotest) in one chaos storm cd before go to war. This give around 10 stacks (100 preci) and enought. Then you get rest later on.
@Unknown, I have a effective way to deal with thiefs latley, it work nerly every time. Id they dont die they take so big dmg they stealth to reset fight. Then I just wait a sec or 2 then stealth and wait another sec and dodge. You be supriced how annoying the thiefs find other stealthers and alot will hit first clone or 2nd that pop up. Also use a portal in stealt is extremly confuion for them. Will post new vid today. also Isis and Helios have 2 wery solid ways to fight thiefs. I post a vid i posted before, if you look close you notice most thiefs in this vid accualy die due to confusion and conditions. Easy to miss

Something I have noticed about water combat for a mesmer. Not sure if it is a bug or intended… When we have clones with tridents they cause CONFUSION without shattering.. I say again clones auto attack CAUSE CONFUSION underwater. Its just amazing.

Blind, block, evade, obstructed bugs stopping us from summoning.

Expect nerf to time warp and portal next patch because the bad players in PvP aren’t happy yet. Wouldn’t be surprised if anet finally caves under the whines and shatter damage eventually gets nerfed too.

Seriously in beta Mesmers were considered one of the lower classes before all the bad players came in at launch.

Let me try to rephrase what they said. The players that played in beta thought of ways to try and counter things…. Actively play/dodge/predict next move so on… Because there are more players now than in beta a lot of them seem to want it to be “i hit you for this much damage….” Now I stand here and you hit me for this much damage and we go back and forth until someone wins. The play style that accompanies the mesmer is a lot of moving repositioning getting into melee bursting getting out doing CC then ranging… Other players that are used to other games/mmos don’t like that. They want us to stand still and take our damage… Mesmer really does have a high skill cap and require alot of timing…
Fun fact: Engineer grenadier actually counters timewarp.
1500 range. 300 range edge on timewarp, can easily harass from outside of it. Mixed conditions and the actual radius goes a bit beyond the 300 range edge, letting you completely safely fight enemies in timewarp. If they leave, they lose the buff.
Loved the fact and found out last night that engineers grenades can go 1500… Further than most other long range abilities except maybe kill shot and Ranger LB attacks. TIMEWARP COUNTERED!!!

Time Warp hasn’t been nerfed YET but shattering has “the SS nerf” that we just got. And the GCD on all our shatter skills even tho they are all insta casts… Hmmmm .25 secs is pretty fast but not instant…
So wait, if mesmers are required for 5v5 then it’s safe to assume both teams have a mesmer right? If both teams have access to time warp how is this game breaking. Apparently every team has access to this ability….

Hah! Really? Time Warp? Yeah, it’s an excellent skill and has it’s uses, but it’s soo easy to counter how can you call it OP? (except maybe in wvwvw siege and guild ambushes) As soon as I see a TW I pop reflect, retaliation, and any confusion skills I have, and I get free kills.

Even though it would cause balance problems at this stage I feel tiered traits need to go. It is killing build diversity I need access to 2nd tier traits in the 1st tier spot etc to make different builds optimal. I don’t understand why there isn’t more community outcry for seeing tiered traits go the way of the dodo? Would it make some super builds sure but then you could balance from a more varied playing field.
I don’t think they need to go completely because part of the “balancing” is player choice… and the tier traits add to it. I do however think that some need moved around.
And who says warriors aren’t viable? I love having warriors on my team for WvW/PvP and in dungeons…

Seeing as how a Goalie’s entire job is to defend against Offensive Players of all levels, their opinion on what their own Offensive Players are doing wrong/should be doing to beat the opposing Goalie is extremely valid.
You want to beat a Goalie? Ask a Goalie how they get beat. Want to beat a Mesmer? Ask a Mesmer how they get beat. Ask them what frustrates them and what tactics counter their playstyle.

GO TO THE MESMER FORUM and ask.. “How do I beat you guys?” One guy came to the forums saying mesmers have to much but a lot of us gave him constructive info on how to fight mesmers… Its not hard… And as far as the whole time warp issue (since people found something new to complain about after SS and the new GCD) is easily countered maybe not how you like it but in the PvP I have done there are a TON of points to cap and keep and if the mesmers entire team is inside that bubble firing away then that just means they have left a whole bunch of points on the map for you to capture… Makes sense right?
Yeah its 12 seconds… I run a very GS heavy build.. And its 12 seconds… DUELIST DISCIPLINE on the other hand… is just annoying.
I tried being unique, making my own builds and refusing 100b for the longest time. Sadly everytime I faced a team with half a brain cell my builds would get shut down in some way to where they had become seemingly useless. I had to pug tourneys for a long time and every group I entered expected me to be instagib 100b, as if there was no other alternative, and there really isn’t if you want to play against good teams. I refuse to play any other class, I love being a warrior, so for now I grit my teeth and force myself to play the only build that seems to have any measure of success.
Every patch I keep promising myself that A-net will eventually go over our other weapons (everything other than the GS – axe/shield meta) and give them some love and some tweaks to make them more viable, but they haven’t yet and it’s getting pretty frustrating.
you guys aren’t the only class that feels pidgeonholed… I wish they would buff warriors other weapon skills cuz I hate dying to 100b. I play a mesmer… We have a long list of buggy traits. Traits that should reduce cooldown and increase power but they decrease power…
In pvp I feel like I have to have portal and time warp to be viable but for my team… Which forces me to give up slots I would rather use for something else… The game does need work but it’s not worth quitting over.. Best part about quitting though… YOu can come back whenever you want and not pay again.
and also if possible these changes should be split between PvP and PvE
I say to bring balance back.. Change the grenade nerf that was done to engineers (Tht was messed up anyways). And who says warriors aren’t viable? I love having warriors on my team for WvW/PvP and in dungeons… And all classes bring better group utility than thieves
Some of these things have already been nerfed. Portal has been nerfed to limit the number of uses… (I wish they would make the duration of the portal limitless then but hey I’m a mesmer). I believe the thief mug and or CnD has been reduced in damage… Bunker guardians… I mean come on that is the point of the class GUARDians… Ele’s I can’t give a fair input on… But honestly the game is still in its baby phase and while you may think it could take a week to do what you want… That was at a different place… I am by no means a programmer I can still imagine that it is run differently at ANet then Lucas…

Enough said… Remember the days when it was required to have a designated healer/tank/and a DPS at minimum… Now all classes (except mesmers) have a group heal. And they can all trait to be either tanks/ or DPS glass cannons… It is player preference. hehe.

If you learn to play multiple classes properly you will understand they are not balanced (especially in WvW).
Are you kidding me ALL classes bring some unique flavor to WvW… Mesmer portal bombs AMAZING (not to mention the more important but less talked about supply running for siege) … Warriors can run headlong into a zerg and just do a bagillion
whirlwinds and not die… Guardians are by far the hardest profession to kill plus they are great for siege protection… Psh screw arrow carts all you need are your rangers… PLUS they have pets that really help them out… Engineers mortar is great for defending a keep more so than the mortars you have to pay to buy Psh just make sure you have engineers kitten #8230; Thieves are really good at guarding supply camps from that one or two people who think they can just solo and gank it back not to mention the stealth helps with scouting and reporting ( no not just backstabbing shocker I know). Necromancers can fear everyone around them off a cliff. Eles OMG great group utility for healing plus AOEing walls that have arrow carts on them (because everyone is fair and doesn’t use hacks to have their arrowcarts inside the tower.) :P So is it balanced I doubt it… But it doesn’t need to be balanced the way all you people are begging for it to be.
I played my mesmer in what started as a 2v3 but because my staff ele friend died it became a 1v3… Took a ranger an engi and a d/d ele to get me because all of my skills were on cool down… My friend had played with mesmers before and all she said is “Wow… you are amazing.” The only really viable elite skill we have that is great group utility is mass invis… but that is only if we want to chain stealth (need veil to go with it). Btw the entire time I was fighting these 3 PROFESSIONS I did not use time warp or any elite… I just played the class how it was supposed to be played… But you know what since I lost to these three professions I kindly request they be nerfed as well…I was knocked back by a longbow… None of that for rangers anymore… The kitten wolf had a fear skill… this totally needs removed HUNTERS CALL almost got me twice man not cool okay please remove the bleeding conditions that it brings with it…. The engineer had a flamethrower then pistols then a bomb kit… SO NOT OKAY please increase the cooldown between their kit swaps… And the d/d ele stunned me like 5 times… Seriously nerf all of these skills and professions so that next time I can 1v3 them and win to save my pride dignity and huevos… Wait… If I seriously whine about something like that then that means I have no huevos… Hmmm.
Well I just wish they would split the tweaks between pvp and pve they did it for thieves why not mesmer? On a brighter note… I was running WvW with a staff ele and it took a Magumma ranger, engineer, and a d/d ele to bring me down after the staff ele was killed. lol… so we are still good… but I hope the nerf bat is not swung to hard core plus how are we not competitive against warriors? THEY FREAKING insta down me… soooo really?
Better they learn how to counter it than them convince anet to nerf one of our useful dungeon elites into THE GROUND!
Suggested changes to balance the Mesmer:
1. Damaging the clones (including shattering) hurts the mesmer.
2. Portal has the same range as blink and also can’t cross walls or gaps like blink.
3. Time warp requires the mesmer to enter an inactive meditation state for the duration. Recharge increased by 30 seconds and duration reduced by 5 seconds.
4. Moa morph affects both the target and the mesmer.
5. Blurred frenzy applies 20 seconds of bleeding on the mesmer. Damage reduced 30%. Recharging increased by 20 seconds.
6. Temporal Curtain pull range is reduced to 300. Pull cannot pull people off ledges.
7. Iarget stands in iWarden for more than 1 second, that target is now healed instead of damaged.
8. Magic bullet can now hit allies.
9. Confusion now only works for a target’s #5 skill.
10. Mesmer armor is now capped at 1000; health at 15000.
11. Mesmers must spend boons in order to complete shatters.
12. Mesmers suffer from poison while invisible and are still targetable.
13. Clones no longer have the name of the mesmer. Instead, they say clone. In addition, they are shaded a deep purple.
14. Mesmers now take twice as much damage from warriors.
15. Mesmers cannot damage guardians.
16. In accordance with its name, null field now does nothing.
17. Chaos storm has equal chance of applying boons and conditions to both allies and enemies.
18. Chaos armor has chance of applying boons to enemies that hit the mesmer and conditions on the mesmer when hit.
19. Swap following illusionary leap will only work 50% of the time.
20. Illusionary wave also pushes the mesmer back acting as a knockdown.Maybe now people will be able to have a chance against mesmers.

Or WvW the advantage is just too great! God forbid! Ugh all the classes in this game have a unique flavor that people just don’t like so they call for the nerf bat.
If it’s split so that any change only affect PvE then fine. If not then I don’t see why something that only affects a very small (I’d guess max 5%) of the players should lead to more nerfs for a class that is already very weak in pve.
I’m glad we got the PvEers speaking up in every balance thread in the PvP section. Scripted NPCs are pretty tough to fight, any more nerfs to mesmers and they won’t be able to kill anything!!!!
That is actually pretty funny because the only difference between PvE mob AI and the average PvP player is that the AI actually kills illusions. Give it a go sometime.
This is what I’ve noticed as well. The AI handles mesmers so much better than other players.
A big problem that warriors and guardians (and to a lesser extent necros, rangers, and engineers) have with mesmers is that PvE trains them to stand still and tank damage. Just keep hitting until the enemy is dead. In sPvP, especially against mesmers and thieves this strategy is not viable. It will work against other professions like them because they do the same thing. This is also why d-d eles are able to make short work of warriors and guardians and fight on a level playing field with thieves and mesmers; they dodge and move.

A lot of other classes have retaliation as well… Confusion is mesmer specific for the most part (kind of like poison/fear/weakness/etc are available to almost every necro build.

That is almost double the ideal balance point (12.5%). That is considered severely OP (you essentially destroy presence of one whole class).
They need to give us ranked ques (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 5v5) and start balancing from there.
You define balance as having the same representation for all classes in top rankings (top100&top500) (about 12.5 for each class).You balance first dmg with 1v1.
Once that is done (dmg balanced) you start balancing 2v2-3v3 with combo fields and diminishing returns on group effects of skills (buffs/aoe dmg etc).
Further you balance 3v3 and 5v5 with further diminishing returns and nerfing skills/utilities/elites that benefit large groups the most (TW, portal,… you know, stuff that makes you guys severely OP in group settings)
The name of the game is GUILD WARS… GROUP Utility is freaking part of it! They will not make it a 1v1 based system because it has no place in the entire game. If every class was balanced based off 1v1 then the classes would lose their uniqueness… BTW whoever think engineers still suck seriously an engineer with a net turret/flame thrower and bomb kit can hold a point easy… not to mention supply drop which is OMGERED your whole team is dead cuz I just mega stunned you beezys… If every class was on the same level 1v1 it would defeat the design of the game… Anyone ever wonder why they have 8v8 in sPvP… mmmm how many professions does this game have… Omg DING DING DING DING…

Yeah it makes perfect sense… Professions that are great in 1v1 AND group.. mesmer…Guardian… Warrior… ele…professions that are great in groups Ranger (lets face it their longbow attacks can be a pain)…Engineers may have gotten nerfed but they are still more versatile when it comes to weapon kits and they are really good in groups… necros I haven’t seen enough of to place them for group or 1v1 but as I understand it the wells and so on are really good… and then the thief…. great 1v1…. terrible group utility… shadow refuge… thats it… And it only works IF the players stop attacking while they are in it…
The group play of the game is very important… and constantly whining so that every class is balanced 1v1 ruins the uniqueness of ALL classes…. if you want to play a FPS where everyone has the same specs and abilities then GO DO IT… Versatility is what this game is about hence the bagillion different ways players can configure builds…
Also the cool down on time warp is SOOOO long that it can be used once in a PvP match and thats it… And the pvp matches I have been in last a lot longer than 10 freaking seconds.

I love healing turrets… And bombkits… they are great… the grenade kit can still slap more conditions on someone than a necro… ALSO engineers can throw an elixir onto their team which gives them OMG quickness for I think a little less than the mesmers…. If it would make all you whiners happy I could deal with them dropping our endurance to 0 when we use timewarp… I thinks that how it goes for quickening zephyr on rangers…. The name of the game is GUILD WARS… GROUP Utility is freaking part of it! They will not make it a 1v1 based system because it has no place in the entire game. If every class was balanced based off 1v1 then the classes would lose their uniqueness… BTW whoever think engineers still suck seriously an engineer with a net turret/flame thrower and bomb kit can hold a point easy… not to mention supply drop which is OMGERED your whole team is dead cuz I just mega stunned you beezys… If every class was on the same level 1v1 it would defeat the design of the game… Anyone ever wonder why they have 8v8 in sPvP… mmmm how many professions does this game have… Omg DING DING DING DING…
Well then I suppose time warp is safe because it has survived every other nerf bat epidemic that has hit mesmers.
Mesmers have been wondering if it will get shortened cuz sometimes I feel it is like wow this thing is still going,. But seriously this nerf calling is just going to bring the class so far below the others that it will be UP and then people are gonna be begging for warriors to be nerfed or some nonsense… IN all reality this is and always will be an L2P issue…. don’t try treating it any differently… And time warp has been the same through ALL the nerfs we have had to go through to appease the whiners… So I doubt it will change…
Do you not realize that mesmers just had another nerf to appease you kittens… Stop with it seriously just stop… No classs needs nerfed into the ground… Look what happened to engineers. And i love the idea behind the engineer class… And time warp is one of the FEW group utiilties that mesmers have…. You wanted shattered strength reduced you got it… You wanted a GCD on shatters you got that. Portal is limited now in the number of Uses and duration you got that too… NOW just stop… This has simply become a L2P issue and thats it! While we’re at it lets remove attunements on ele’s you can only choose one to attune to at the character creation and thats it! Necros deathshroud is a second life bar SOOOO game changing… un fair completely. Guardians should no longer be allowed to give themselves and their allies every buff in the whole game and the longbow range on the ranger is just TOO LONG…. Am I getting through here people? Do you not get the slippery slope that this will place the entire game on? All this calling for a nerf bat to come out is just kitten #8230;. Stop it… Learn how to play the game counter/dodge/cond removal… I bet most the whiners about mesmers are kitten glass cannons in which case you deserve to be burned down.
Watching thieves dance in and out of stealth during a fight is just plain annoying. Watching mesmers escape everything via clones/stealth and then dump on you is equally annoying. Getting hit multiple times from stealth before seeing your opponent is annoying.
Common factor? Stealth. Stealth is annoying. There isn’t a single MMO that incorporates stealth where stealth hasn’t been annoying.
Thieves and Mesmers are fine, fix stealth.
Mesmers usually only stealth to RUNNNN lol. at least I do. Stealth is the point of some of these classes. Stealth is one of base mechanics (entire trait line for it) of thieves great group utility in the hands of a mesmer. I have heard people rage that mesmers need to lose the ability to pop clones as often as possible… They obviously haven’t played a mesmer because we can only have a limited number out at a time… and having clones is the basis of our class…

^ We are still amazing at PvP. I fought 1 guardian/1thief/and I think a warrior and stomped all but 1 of them I think in WvW. The fight was so close to their WP that I couldn’t tell if it was them coming back or more people coming.
Isn’t the joke Mesmer, Guardian, Thief = GW2 holy trinity? I don’t think ANet plays favorites to elementalists.
Idk maybe… But I will say while it sucks to fight thieves in WvW (even though I stomped 3 today in 30 min) they have very little group support from what I can see… And whats awesome is mesmers have SOOOO many interrupts at there disposal… and 1 mesmer with timewarp and 4 warriors is like dead anything haha.
Funny how People thought anet would give everyone a precursor for free.. with better droprate and better buildchance in the forge the precursors will cost less for sure, but i don’t think they will cost less then 200 Gold, the Greatswords maybe even 300, its not ANETs Fault everyone wants a Greatsword.
Well it kinda is considering greatsword can be used by more class than not.
Ranger/Mesmer/Guardian/Warrior…. Only half the classes in the game lol.
I do agree that legendaries should have higher stats… If only slightly… Also what I think as far as buying them… Usually by the time you have enough of your gifts crafted you have found a few ways to make money.. Dungeons… Selling stuff from Fracs… So on… Great way to make money.. WvW get pretty good drops there as well… I think the journey to the legendary should be about getting there… But in all honesty I think the precursor will prolly drop very little still (hopefully those that exploited will have been dealt with by now) But i truly do think that by the time you have all your other gifts you will have found some ways to make gold through other means and if you haven’t got your legendary precursor by then through drops you will prolly have enough to buy it.. This is a long term goal after all. And the game is only a few months old lol
