my ranger has protection on dodge roll, guardian has protection from half a dozen of her abilities and weapons (at least. maybe more. XD) and the mesmer has a staff, so protection there, too. i’m good. bring it on!

Personally, I’m starting to think server merges/partial merges are in order. From the WvW perspective at least, there are FAR too many WvW servers present yet FAR too little WvW players willing to spread out evenly to create any long term balanced match-ups outside maybe tier 1. In the end every next tier is drastically more stacked then the previous one, and some are worse than others. Not that tiers mean much anymore though.

There is absolutely no meaning in pitting a significantly smaller WvW population against a much higher one with the only incentive to play against them being rating points, especially when gaining rating points just increases the odds that you will face a stronger server than before.

when the new matchup mechanic was announced, there were some people that were hopeful. they were saying that perhaps people would spread out across the servers more instead of stacking the “winning” server in a stale matchup so much…

i’m not sure if that’s actually happening in the higher servers, but it sure as heck isn’t happening all the way down in the basement where i’m sitting. people who were already teetering on the edge of “this freaking sucks” jumped ship at the idea that we’d potentially be facing servers even stronger than the ones that have already whipped us. (i hold no ill will toward those who left, by the way. i play for fun, and if the game is no longer fun because of the matchup they are in, i respect them leaving it.)

i laughed pretty darn hard when i saw what our first week’s matchup was… and i don’t mean i laughed in a good way. i’m surprised and proud of my server we did as well as we did against what we were facing.

i’m in it for the long haul… i won’t be leaving ET unless 1. my whole guild leaves (lol ain’t happenin’) 2. i quit playing (not any time soon) 3. servers merge (who knows when/if that happens, and even then, i technically haven’t LEFT my server) or 4. the game shuts down (probably not any time soon either)

BUT… as low as the WvW pop is on ET, and presumably on FC right now also… i am not opposed to the idea of a merge.. if only it wouldn’t fubar the tiers. SF is strong enough on their own, tho. howzabout Eredon Crossing?

you know you’ve been commanding in tier 8 for too long when the dream you had last night consisted of running, tag up, completely solo from keep to keep trying to defend, with no one, against orange swords at every keep

its funny. some GoM are so upset about this. i know it’s a WAR game and all, where we’re supposed to be fighting each other, but allowing us to BORROW your keep for an hour to get our POIs and vistas was an incredible gesture of goodwill. that one little thing that some GoMs decided to do made a whole lot of happiness to a whole lot of people. put a spark back in their game when they WERE hopeless.

to those who were against it... i dunno what to say. if yer upset about a few gold in upgrades, tho. who are you. i’ll friggn mail it to you. it’s worth it to me to see the raise in morale in my server.

the OP says ET, why not? and why not indeed. simply reading the score board and seeing ET at the bottom does not give the full picture. we are not bad at what we do (in fact the diehards who are left are forced to be, overall, quite good) , we just face greater numbers than ourselves in every opponent we fight. as such... EVERY BODY counts... if one person transfers to help, great! if a whole guild transfers to help, great! we welcome all!

what will you find if you come to ET? during a typical weekday we try to defend our borders with 3-6 people. yes, you read that right. it really is that low alot of the time. (2 fridays ago, WvW was shut down and everyone was sent to LA... a screenshot was taken of all the ET from all 4 maps standing around in LA. there was 17 of us... on a friday prime time) sometimes we have more. sometimes we have a commander, sometimes we get ambitious and go attack another border, but usually just a few people running laps maintaining seige, queing upgrades, and re-flipping camps.

when you CAN get more than a few of us together (typically NA "prime time" between around 6-7pm and 12-2am EST) we do things like this:

pushing SF out of our Garrison... before they left tier 8. when they finally left tier 8 they rocketed straight to tier 6

we have alot of heart, and alot of fight, there’s just not alot of us.

P.S. - any higher tier guilds considering transferring down, recruiting, then leaving, please don’t. we have few enough people as it is, we need more, not less. thx.

i think at least half a dozen Gom’s waved/saluted/bowed back. a few tried to pull me off the wall, and someone casted/shot something at me. no hard feelings to the few who tried to get me, but i backed out of range and ported back to ET BL after. you let me BORROW your keep for a few, i don’t fight back when you come to reclaim.

when you come on my stomping grounds, tho... well, let’s just say, i’m the mesmer responsible for ninja-ing back bay early this afternoon (with a friendly thief’s help. props man!). XD no. you CAN’T have all our stuff. :-P

It really does feel like GS/LB ranger is slowly approaching FotM status, but since it’s sharing the spotlight with a gradual increase in SD/DD thief, it probably doesn’t feel like you’re suffocating in them like it did with pre-nerf DD eles and confusion mesmers.

When this happened on SFR it spawned a huge increase in guardians and wall of reflection usage….until all the rangers quit/rerolled

i don’t even HAVE a longbow on my ranger. i probably should as it has it’s uses, but i run shortbow and currently experimenting with axe/horn. i’ve also run GS and sword/horn as my 2nd weapon

My apologies then, I am somewhat used to the SF trolling, and not really on the look out for anything else, especially for assessments of our abilities or team compositions coming from our opponents.

To be fair, when we pug in WvW, and many, MANY of us do, we seem to do fine without all being in the same guild simply because we have played together so many times, everyone knows what to expect. We aren’t a giant server with a huge, ever-changing roster of players in each map (we do NOTICE and WELCOME new people), but more like several small towns, and when I show up to fight wherever, people greet me, ask me how I am, and then we get into parties or just b/s in /s. When things don’t go well, we joke in /s, screen shot it for posterity, rez and run back.

Are these teams as coordinated as guilds who train together? No. Do we make up for it by understanding our roles, using heftier builds and erring on the side of team support?

We do our best.

As someone who enjoys a smaller PvE/PvP/WvW Guild, I am quite surprised at the disrespect this shows. Just because some of us go into WvW alone, as opposed to rallying 20+ people and zerging around the map, doesn’t mean that we are “disorganized” or incapable of reading the field and fighting consistently as a group.

I appreciate the attempted trolling, but your way isn’t the only way to play WvW, and just because we/I don’t zerg up all the time doesn’t mean that I am not effective.

Ask the SF team that we pushed back to their spawn point in our BL the other night. Hardly any of us were from the same guild, yet, we all knew what we were doing and had siege up and were farming/trolling before they could stop us.

(props to that thief that tried to gank me 3-4 times… sorry I didn’t fold like a wet banana, bro, thanks for the badges and try to Heartseeker more.)

he made an observation of what he saw that one time. lots of people… doing their own thing, which weakened the fighting force as a whole. that wasn’t an attack on your preferred playstyle.

part of that is because one of their number posted a (misguided) 10 silver bounty on the heads of my guildmates. one of the screenshots is an inside joke between me and the poster (i’ll mail your 10 silver soon) and one of the screenshots is the aforementioned rat >cough< i mean troll on an alt account on our server getting spiked by his own servermate (should i owe you another 10 silver for that?)

i for one approve of some of these shennannigans. it’s at least something to laugh at when we’re so horribly outnumbered

WvW is very... frustrating right now...frequent freezes, frequent disconnects... can’t drop seige... and inability to see commander tag on the map... all adding up to a big WTF experience.
