~o hai there :D~ LONG LIVE ET
(edited by katz.8376)
i’m not a man, man…and i got laid this morning, but i am fresh out of cookies >wink<
but thank you.
(edited by katz.8376)
hrm… ok, new player here… was running with a zerg either yesterday or the day before… and someone popped a portal and said “use it”. i did not at the time know it was a glitch or an exploit so i used it and thought to myself “cool!”.
now that i know, i will not be taking advantage of any further such portals i see, and if i notice who casted them, i will report said behavior. apologies to the people who’s towers i helped take illegitimately during the shenanigans.
~the blue ranger with the white hat in [PK].~
hehe. he’s just sore we painted the map red after the last reset. XD
my failed CM run this morning was in a guild group. i’m too new to the game to feel comfortable pugging stuff like that out.
lol. ET is small, but we got fight!
if a few more people joined, it would really help out, tho… but we are by no means “dead”.
~PK an proud!~ Arrrr!
heh. if i get hit with a monthly requirement to do the jump puzzles (as opposed to just FINDING them, like last month’s req) that’s one month i’ll not be getting that month’s reward.
XD
you guys are talking like storymode is SOOOOOOO much easier than the paths.
they both suck. >.> storymode just sucks a little less
It’s all about knowing the mechanics. Bandit Riflemen do double damage against moving targets. It’s not very much if you’re standing still. It also draws a huge crosshair under your feet when they’re aiming at you. You should have plenty of time to stop moving, dodgeroll, or LoS.
The shotgun boss puts both hands on the shotgun and aims at someone. You simply need to dodgeroll or back off when that happens.
Once you know what to look out for, CM is a cake.
I got thru both of those parts easy enough. i learned VERY quickly that i got crosshairs, i was gonna get hit next. i also quickly learned if i dodge-rolled right then, i didn’t get hurt. i didn’t know about the ‘hold still get hit for less’. thanks for that bit of info.
it was the giant room-o-mobs that gave me grief.
i’ve done AC a few times. it was margainally fun. sucks to be me, tho, i did them BEFORE the monthly requirement came up.
i’ve mostly been avoiding dungeons… why? because i’ve watched my husband run them. doesn’t look like much fun. now… Anet is dangling the shiny carrot in front of me. no, i don’t HAVE to do a dungeon at all ever… no one is holding a knife to my throat, of course not. but if i want the shiny, i DO have to do the dungeons. yeah, the carrot is there to entice me to try something new… however, that something new should make me ENJOY the game more, not HATE it more.
you guys are honestly equating the difficulty of a dungeon to the difficulty of WvW kills, underwater slayers, and gatherer? ROFL!!!
seriously. i failed my first attempt at CM today. you know what i did to go cool down from my frustration? KILLED TWO DRAGONS.
something is askew somewhere.
i would gladly take 50 monthly kills in WvW over needing to do dungeons for my monthly.
mm. AC definitely easier than CM. AC is a bit tough to me too, but then like i said, i’m new. lol. at least i’ve actually FINISHED a few ACs… >.> and yeah, the bosses weren’t all too bad, once we got to them… it was wading thru the scads of OP bandits flinging us every which way with bombs and guns and whatever the heck else they were shooting us with. it sucked
no, not 80 yet. just made 60.
i was in a CM attempt this morning. (some of you may have seen a brief mention of it earlier). Granted, it was my first time in there, but wow… i’m so very glad the whole game isn’t like dungeons. if it were, i never would have made it past my first few levels before setting the game aside. we managed to get thru the fights till almost the end with a reasonable amount of difficulty… some deaths, some frustration, but no stonewalling. and then… “the gauntlet”. que big frig’n room chock full of bandits that, if we choose to try and fight, they zerg rush us like sharks at a feeding frenzy… OR we can try to run thru.
numerous deaths and 6 silver worth of repairs for me later, we gave up.
giving up IS NOT FUN
i feel like i wasted my whole morning.
fortunately Teq was up right after and i was able to take out my frustrations on him.
i swear i don’t know how i’ll get my monthly dungeons at this rate >.>
heh, yeah. don’t worry about being too low… i made the mad dash thru orr with scary 70-80 level mobs chasing me… and i was 51 at the time. XD bring your signet of the hunt!
not too many people showed up, but it was fun running to the far corners of Tyria collecting pets! i made a whole level off just the explorer points and waypoints i ran past.
oooo! awesome! is this for today? i may have to join this!
after a bit of looking around, i’m liking how the shortbow/greatsword combo works, and i’ve been enjoying using it. however… i have absolutely no idea how to lay out my traits.
most of the recent posts i’ve noticed on the subject are from people concentrating on beastmastery. my pet is nice and all, but i’m not exactly the best micromanager in the world. sometimes i have enough trouble keeping myself alive. so i’m not 100% certain i want to put all my eggs in that basket… i see some abilities that look really good, that i think would be really nice to have in WvW, like ‘hide in plain sight’, and i can totally see the value of skills that reduce my cooldowns, but i’m having trouble deciding what would be of more worth to me… partially because i am rather new…i see builds with vids of rangers owning in WvW that totally ignored things i would have put points into.
i’d like some insight, in plain noob friendly english. XD are there certain abilities that look attractive, but aren’t as good as they appear, or are totally bugged. some abilities that sound lame, but are total must haves. fellow rangers help me out here.
kholer is a PITA. i will agree on that one. i’m new. and i play a ranger. i was trying to stay back at max range and shoot him, but that far back i could barely see him at all thru the sea of bodies and particle effects, let alone see what he was doing, and i got sucked in every single time. in frustration i said “what am i doing wrong?!?” and was told “stand closer”. i stood close enough to see him clearly, but still far enough back i was not in melee… and could clearly see his ‘special move’.
his move is this: he holds still and rares back and it looks for all the world like he is getting ready to throw his sword at someone, and he’s taking taking the time to aim… dodge RIGHT THEN. doing this, i was able to live thru the Kholer fight reasonably reliably (allowing for other noob mistakes and poor internet connection) on only my second AC run ever. i used the dodge roll, the jump back from shortbow, and the lightning jump back skill.
i come straight from DDO, which is another game that relies heavily on skill. good gear does make a difference, no doubt, but player skill and knowledge is much much more important. in this game here, i see alot of cheese tactics in dungeons. mobs that can insta-kill me if i make the slightest mistake. VERY VERY unforgiving. now, while i am learning quick, i was carried thru my first AC. i know i was. know how i know? because when i got downed, and (at their advisement) recalled to a WP for a ‘res rush’… i was completely unable to rejoin them. without the beefy guardian i ran behind the first time getting the agro first, i was unable to make it past the burrow we left behind in the first bit of tunnel… no matter how i dodged, jumped, or rolled thru multiple attempts… i died in a split second. in an instant. it was very demoralizing. and unfun.
taking away our cheese (res rushing. perching. etc) but not taking away some measure of the boss mob’s cheese in return… is (forgive my pun) just cheesy.
in DDO, if there’s a res shrine near enough, you better believe i’m hittin’ it and runnin’ back to the fight.
anyone have any info on this? video lag of some sort maybe? would really like to fix this problem if i can
wow. ok, no offense… as a casual player myself, i appreciate what you think you’re trying to do, but this post could be really misleading. i do not consider myself a ‘bad’ player. in fact i think i’m pretty decent and learning fast. (managed to be ‘last man standing’ in a poor attempt at Kholer last night, in only my 2nd run in AC ever. our next attempt at him succeeded).
i don’t feel the need to grind insanely for teh most ubar gear evar!!!! i didn’t feel that need in DDO either. i understand that player skill plays into it much moreso than gear alone. but saying a dungeon can be run by a casual in 20-60 minutes is setting up a NEW player for failure. 20-60 minutes is doable with an EXPERIENCED crew… casual or not… but alot of people associate “casual” with “new-person-friendly”. i know someone who, when they made 30, they celebrated by getting a pack of others 30-60 together, all of whom had not run AC much or at all, and tried to run AC storymode. TWO HOURS LATER they finally completed. if res-rushing had already been removed, they would have never finished, and would have quit in frustration. Frustrating mechanics are never good mechanics. they tend to push people away from the game, as they are not conducive to fun.
it’s very easy to forget how hard things are when you are just learning them… i’ve observed this learning curve in every game i’ve played to date. once you know all the tricks, the game is easy. until you know all the tricks, it can be very hard… and if the game is balanced to try to counter the tricks, it becomes prohibitively difficult.
overall, i like this game. learning the basics is pretty easy… and going against live opponents in WvW forces me to hone my skills… and i know i still have a lot to learn yet.
o noes. people will stop playing. the horror.
it’s not a subscription game. they already got your 60 bucks (or more). you saying “i’m gonna quit!” means nothing.
just sayin’
makes me LOL.
anyways… i’m pretty new to the game, so i’m going to take a “wait and see” stance. if i still enjoy it… i’ll keep playing. if i stop enjoying it… i’ll stop playing. all there is to it.
my husband has been having this same problem recently. when he first started playing not so long ago everything was fine. now every time he gets into a big mass battle, be it a DE, a dungeon, or WvW, he will suddenly just stop moving for several seconds, then start moving again (usually dead by then)
is incredibly frustrating. he’s got a practically brand new computer… and i am NOT having the same issues with my 3 year old one right next to him, so it seems unlikely to be lag in our internet line
Oh…lvl27….you ar5e in for a fun time. Enjoy!.
i figured as much. i am up to the challenge!
i’ve played a ranger since the first online game i ever played. in almost all of the games i’ve played the ranger has been maligned, misunderstood, and hated. and yet i’ve played the ranger, and enjoyed making a viable fun butt-kicking build, despite the naysayers.
rangers are pretty much always a utility class, and highly sensitive to tactics. if you want an easy class, don’t play a ranger. this holds true across every game i’ve ever played.
my ranger is currently level 27 and climbing fast. and i’m having fun. both PvE and WvW. as annoying as it can be sometimes, it brings me a bit of perverse pleasure when i’m the one who gets singled out in a pack of WvW people… because i’m bombarding the tower with a longbow barrage. can hear em in my head “get that d*** ranger!” lol
only 20th so far. but i kinda like my look.
i turned off double-tap and mapped dodge to a key i can quickly and easily press, and have been making good use of it.
i guess i’ll just have to practice more, cuz it seems that even with strafing and dodging i still get owned
lol… i read that post literally right before i posted this one. definitely some good stuff in there.
how do i kite? O.o i’m quite familiar with kiting in DDO, but i move so SLOW in this game! with that, i didn’t think it was possible to kite! it just seems no matter where i go or how much i circle/strafe/run things still just rip me a new one in record time. only actual dodging saves my hide.
my mesmer is already using a GS and sword/pistol combo. i do like the power it seems to have, but if anything manages to REACH me i’m toast. and the ranger is waffling between longbow, shortbow, and … i dunno.

as my topic title says… i’ve been playing GW2 off and on now for maybe a couple weeks… not very seriously. got a mesmer up to 16 and a ranger up to 10. in the same amount of time my husband has reached 60th, but he’s been playing much more actively than i have.
i’m having trouble getting into it. i just… die. alot. and i mean… alot. i know i’m probably doing something wrong, but i just seem very weak with whatever i try, and its just not fun.
anyone have any “must know” knowledge they can impart to help me out? (i know how to dodge, by the way, but i probably need to work on my timing)
just started playing GW, so go easy on me, but my first character is:
Raj the Trickster. charr mesmer of the Ash Legion. am i here? am i there? which one is the real me? the one with a blade in your back and a whisper of death in your ear.
