If you look a the top end, its dominated by Intel Core i5/i7/xeon, sprinkled with a few AMD. Yes, AMD is cheaper, but there is a reason they price it so. You get what you pay for as Intel is more expensive.

the IPv4 number you are seeing in windows network and sharing center is called your LAN IP which is totally different than a WAN IP.

WAN IP is the one given to you by your ISP and is what everyone else on the internet sees you as. This is the IP Anet emails you. This is shared by all your devices on your home network which each has it’s own LAN IP. Think of this as multiple home phones sharing the same number calling. Usually, the LAN IP starts with 192.168.xxx.xxx

Do some stress test to see if your hardware is stable under load. Memtest86, prime95, furmarks etc.

GW2 will run on Windows 8, many people have played fine with it. However, it is not officially supported yet by Anet. Windows 8 is new so there might be driver incompatibilities with certain hardware.

I run the game on one monitor and the second monitor is just to display my other stuff like chats/videos. GTX660 handles gw2 fine @ best appearance setting. I cap the fps at 60 so GPU load rarely goes over 50%.

Be sure you know this “elitist” since buying second hand pc is just like getting a used car, YMMV & problems might be hidden.

But with Blackfriday deals all over the place its more fun building yourself and might be just as cheap or cheaper.

Its a compaq presario case custom fitted with little intention of upgrade-ability. Might as well get another case/psu too if you’re building one yourself.

If you are not comfortable building a new machine yourself, buy another prebuilt one and upgrade it’s video card.

Your current graphic card uses two 6pin, so im pretty sure the newer card requiring only one 6pin should work fine with your 500W PSU.

116W probably means the max power the graphic card would use, are you looking at at a 550ti?

Doing so will piss off legit Chinese players and the cheating ones will just work around it using various passthrough techniques like VPN etc.

People get hacked either by their own fault (malware, keylogger, sharing password, weak security) or the server’s fault (rare, but can happen. Lol, something sony ps3 players know all too well)

Seems like your have memory issues with your system ram, HD, and/or software installed. Search the forum for Exception: c0000005. There are other people with that issue and can be cause by a number of factors.

I had a 8600GT once with coil whine. It was very annoying because it was a fanless passive cooled card in a silent PC build. The noise was very noticeable.

There are 4 points of failure with disconnect issues.

• Computer client
  Could be a configuration with in the operating system, firewall, antivirus, malware/virus and/or any third party software interfering on the computer.
• Home network
  Mis-configured router settings, bad firmware, cable/wireless radio interference, malfunctioning NIC or modem or wiring or any network related hardware.
• ISP
  they could be limiting/throttling your connection/ports, bad hardware, problem could be outside of your isp’s control depending on location packets might be hopping through a bad route
• Game Server
  server unable to handle the load whether it be their network or ISP connection.

Disconnect issues can be tricky to troubleshoot as there are so many variables which can contribute to the problem. Maybe one thing or a series of failures. Best advice is to start troubleshooting using deductive reasoning to narrow down and pinpoint the source of the problem. (e.g to rule out computer software issues, test to see if you get the disconnect using someone else’s machine on the same network etc.)

That should get your CPU very cool at 60c or below at load.

The developers has acknowledged the game’s performance issues and wants to make it better, but it takes time. You can read what they commented so far in Q11 here It goes in detail as to why the performance is like this.

Your bus speed is running at 1x, it should be 16×. Thats like trying to fill the bathtub with the faucet restricted not open all the way.

Looks like your GPU clock speed is running normally and not throttled. However, I did notice your CPU usage was rather low at 28% in the screenshot. Does your CPU usage jump around a lot while playing gw2? I would expect 50-70% range while having gw2 open.

You can monitor in HwINFO by right clicking CPU usage and show graph. Play gw2 for a bit and watch the graph for dips.

Technically this is their forums and they can censor or do whatever. Guess if you want more freedom of speech there are numerous alternative gw2 forums.

Yea, i know you said you formatted, but who knows if you installed anything else like antivirus or what not that could be doing something. Going down to the lowest denominator helps narrow down troubleshooting. So many variables with software configurations.

Lookup your cpu/gpu’s clock speed info. Use HwINFO or MSI afterburner tool to monitor the clock speed.

gw2.dat is the most important file. Should be about 15GB.

Just copy the whole folder that contains gw2.dat, its in the same folder as gw2.exe

Is the CPU & GPU running at the right clock speed?

Try a clean install of windows, display driver and gw2. Install nothing else, and see if you experience the same FPS.

Try re-seating your video card and ram.

• have you check to see if your ports for Gw2 is open?
• QoS throttling on router?
• Deleting and re-downloading?
• Any antivirus/firewall etc software blocking it?

You didn’t post where you are measuring FPS and how much it drops etc.

Monitor your GPU/CPU usage, disk activity and task manager processes when you notice the drops occuring. Might give some clues.

There is a LOD slider, but there isn’t one for draw distance. Probably GW2 devs want to keep the beauty of the PVE landscape to a certain quality. I play PVE just to look at the landscape half the time, but its in WvWvW I don’t care too much and want more FPS.

SSD would help load maps a bit faster, since gw2 files are all compressed into the .dat file the CPU still needs to work loading it. Its still better than traditional HDD as you don’t have to worry about fragmentation over time.

I think you people are confused with what “support” means. GW2 supports SLI as in the game will run and use the hardware. Doesn’t say the game will run at X amount of FPS.

Provided the right CPU the full SLI potential can be utilized. However, there isn’t a cpu on the consumer market atm that is able to. How optimize or not the code is a different subject.

Probably a good reason why there isn’t a “recommended system requirement” officially announced, but only a minimum.

where are you measuring FPS? IF this is in LA or crowded cities then that isn’t too bad. But if it is PVE open area you should be getting more. I am using a GTX 660 with Q6600 @3.2ghz and get about 40-60fps in PVE. Turn down shadows and reflections helps a lot.

Is it sad that we do? Yes. However, the devs have commented and admitted there needs & will be optimization. The question is how long and when. (Read Q11 of this thread to see what they have said)

Whats your gw2 thread cpu %usage at? You’ll be surprised even a 3570 @ 4.5ghz can still choke in heavy areas like LA or WvWvW.

you can always do the math yourself.

15GB * 1024 * 1024 / (bandwidth in kb/s) / 60 / 60 = hours to download.

HD 4000 is very playable on low/med settings depending on resolution. Try it out since it is integrated. You can always get a dedicated GPU later if it doesn’t fit your needs.

if you’re talking about the 220 deal for 3770k, there was also the 100 deal for the 2500k. 3570k for 150 is also in the works for BF

Every router is a little different in configurations. Would be help more if you actually listed the model and steps you took to open the port.

Don’t know how your work network is setup at work, but maybe there is a reason why the ports are blocked =] Ask the network admin people.

I say if you plan on solely gaming go for a cheaper i5-2500k or i5-3570k. Gw2 won’t make use of hyper-threading and you can overclock those processors pretty high 4.4-4.6ghz on the hyper212+/evo, in WvWvW you’re gonna need it.

I7 and E3 are more workhorses. They will work fine for gaming, but the extra features they pack does little for gaming. Save the money, go for a i5 and get a SSD instead. Going from regular spinning HD to SSD is a world of a difference.

Use the tools in (Q5) to monitor your CPU/GPU usage load and if its being throttled or not and check up on the temps.

something is wrong with your setup, might be something with drivers or background processes. When it dips to 25fps what is cpu/gpu load?

Did your friend overclock his 2500k but you did not?

You can also stress test with Prime95 and Furmarks to see if your PSU can hold out.

If you think a windows patch cause this go look back at the update history. Look for a patch dealing with hardware drivers or something.

Basically you got a laptop with a very low end gpu. It will not work with GW2. Even if you do somehow manage to get it to run it will probably be unplayable with flip animation level fps or slideshow

Also, no. gameboost wouldn’t really help you. I say try for refund, or buy a new desktop (black friday is around the corner)

try deleting your local.dat file and maybe windowed mode?
