https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Post-your-FPS-System-spec-here/first#post558553 Look at this thread and get a feeling of what to expect with hardware.
FX-8120 will do okay, not great. GW2 is very CPU-bound. Go for the fastest CPU you can afford on this list, Intel base if possible. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html before splurging on a GPU. 640 will do okay start with medium settings, but if u want to start maxing settings 560ti and up is what you prob want. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Get new hardware is about all you can do to improve that 5fps.
GPU or PSU could be dying. You can stress test it to confirm with programs like furmarks or something.
Yup. Lion Arch and WvW everyone gets fps drops. CPU is bottlenecked (read Q4 for details)
Check your videocard’s temp for heat issues? If its the PSU, the easiest way to test is to try out another PSU either by borrowing, spare unit or buying.
Ruled out software configuration like 3rd party antivirus etc? Best way to confirm is working from a clean slate like fresh OS install, if you are lazy maybe a bootable usb/live cd environment.
Genju never posted what fps he is getting and where… so we can only just speculate as to what is wrong (could be CPU bottleneck, could be GPU running at wrong bus speed, or etc…)
Not really that GW2 dislike AMD, its just that AMD perform much worse than INTEL in terms of single thread performance (See Q15 for details here)
Also, having more than 3-4 CPU cores does not help improve GW2 performance. (See Q8 for details here)
You can verify, confirm and analyze that your CPU is being bottlnecked by monitoring cpu/gpu usages during gameplay. (See Q4-9 for details here)
Catalyst Application Profiles
Move folder to new location outside of Program Files or you can change the folder permissions.
Motherboard is asus m2n-sli, graphics card and power supply are fine, both are brand new and power supply is 800 watts. Just wanted to know if I can fit am3 in my slot.
Look at the supported CPU list form the manufacture.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2NSLI/#CPUS
There are a few AM3 supported cpu with bios update.
20Mbps is actually bandwidth/capacity which is totally different than what speed/latency/ping is.
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/694
Now when you refer to lag is that graphical lag due to hardware or lag as in network issues via rubber-banding etc.
Have you tried updating your motherboard chipset drivers or maybe BIOS update?
Upgraded to new desktop below, and saw FPS triple.
Hardware Spec:
-Intel Core i5 3750k @ 4.2ghz
-MSI GTX660 OC 2GB (geforce 306.97)
-GA-Z77X-UD5H
-16GB DDR3 PC 14900
-Windows 7 SP1 64bit
-Samsung 830 SSD
Game setting
1680×1050 Windowed Fullscreen
Best Apperance with Supersample
FPS Value:
PVE 105-170
Cities 50-100
PVP 50-100
WvWvW 30-60
GW2 build: 16,130
Can’t help you much, your video card is not designed for modern gaming, it is barely the minimum requirement. Time to upgrade to a new one.
Yea, you have no real option to upgrade. Basically, time for a entire new computer and likely the most cost effective route.
Yup Gw2 is very CPU-bound. I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600, but overclocked to 3.2ghz. I get 40-60FPS in PVE. I now have second desktop 3570k and its night and day difference especially in crowded areas. If you can’t afford upgrading now, do some Overclocking if possible.
Yes, the GT630 (697 score) is better than the 8500GT (159 score), but its still about the same level as integrated HD4000. Since you said you are fine playing at 20fps with the 8500GT, then the GT630 can probably run med/high if you want to keep playing at 20fps.. But… most people prefer not playing at 20fps they strive for 30fps min and 60fps avg.

Well error shows its having problems reading from the HD. Could be physical disk failure but you said chkdsk showed no problems.
Since you are using Win8 could be driver issues with your hardware?
@shiro
If its a problem with temperature that can easily be verified by monitoring your CPU/GPU temp during the game.
Tools listed in Q5 of this thread would allow you to monitor.
If you can’t physically add more ram try to free up resources.
Close as many application/processes/windows-services etc as you can.
Upgrading to 64bit would allows you to use more of that 4GB due to 32bit architecture limitations.
If you suspect there is a conflict with an installed program you have then use process of elimination to find the culprit. I like to start with a clean state like a clean OS install and add back software slowly.
Guess if the -repair option doesn’t do it then your data is pretty corrupted?
Have you tried running chkdsk to see if there are any damages on the HD?
probably more cost effective to pay bonuses to the devs as incentive for improving the code.
I’m using a SSD and running 3.2Ghz Q6600, it takes about 10seconds to load maps.
(edited by kirito.4138)
You probably don’t have enough “free” ram to run WvW.
Get more ram and are you running in 32bit OS?
It does sit at around 50%, but what is strange is, at Supersample, the usage hangs out at about 80-99% with little framerate drop.
Supersample will render the game at higher resolution so your GPU will work harder processing the image before fitting it back to native resolution. Naturally utilization will be higher at 80-99%, but the CPU is still slow/bottlenecked so it can’t telling the GPU the next frame to render.
the little FPS change is a classic example of CPU bottleneck. (Explained in Q4 & Q12 of this thread)
GT630 will not run med/high settings well. More likely get low/med.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+630
Look at this chart http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html you will need a score of about 2500 or higher to start getting medium/high settings, depends on what resolution etc you are running.
But remember FPS performance isn’t derived solely from a GPU, a CPU is just as important and in GW2 its rather more important. (See Q4 here for explanation)
See this post here to find out what FPS other people are getting with the computer specs.
(edited by kirito.4138)
You are running Windows 8, there might be driver related issues with ATI catalyst? Tried different drivers yet? Do other games utilize both GPU in xfire?
Something is wrong if your CPU usage if its only 6% on a quad core/HT corei7 960, it should be using more like 30% when running GW2
6670 would be about 50-60% faster than the 4850
if you are going Xfire 6670, it is probably better spent getting a better single card.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Anything 650ti or higher on that chart should do well in GW2.
However, remember that GPU is not the only factor in FPS performance, CPU is just as important especially as GW2 is very CPU-bound. (Read Q4 here 4 details)

You have ‘Intel Core i5 3470’ in your list. I suggest 3570K or another (K) type processor. It lets you Overclock easily for more performance. Also, if you are getting a (K) type processor go with a Z77 base motherboard.
This is what I built over this week. Similar to yours.
180 -CPU/Mobo- Intel i5-3570k & MSI Z77A-G43 combo at frys

I skimmed your DxDiag & its showing that you are using the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 integrated GPU instead of the dedicated. Do you have your ATI catalyst settings set correctly?
Keep your eyes open, I’m sure frys or microcenter in Socal will have another bundled combo. Remember they will pricematch each other. Holiday sales not over yet.
Yea, if its a cheaper low end desktop for someone like my parents or something I would go prebuilt route. Their profit margins on those machines are razor thin.
But for gaming or high end machines i still think custom is more cost effective. My custom machine is gonna be hackintosh too, so no more feeding apple premiums =]
That frys deal online died fast, but at physical B&M stores they might have it. Tigerdirect and Microcenter might have simliar combos.
Win8 can get purchased for 15-40 bucks with the current promo, hehe MSFT want people to try their new look so bad. Too lazy to list deals on GPU/LCD but they can be cheap too. Even if you add those, a comparable prebuilt machine will cost more. But the biggest reason to build your self is choices and custom tailoring.
I don’t think building yourself is cheaper, esp if you want a leigt copy of an o/s.
If you get in on the black friday deals etc its much cheaper than prebuilt systems. Plus you get to pick quality parts tailored for gaming. Even windows 8 is heavily discounted.
This is what I built over this week.

A 300-400 budget build is possible too.
However if you must go laptop there are lots to pick from. There were better deals during blackfriday, but here is a current example:
On sale atm for $550
Newegg – Lenovo IdeaPad G780 (59347664) Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M(2.50GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M
This should play decent with medium settings, but if you want maxed settings you probably be going over the 1k-2k price points.

Looks like no GW2 for xmas break. That card is like 10x slower than the bare min.
Maybe a kind dev thats roaming the forums would be so nice to update about this subject?
Or else i just wait and dont play wvw anymore for the time beeing
Thanks for the help
Lol, if a real developer was kind enough to show up here to answer questions routinely I would be really concerned. Their time is better spent actually coding/fixing the problem.
I think deep down in side you really meant a kind developer to appear and announce fixes and ETA on it. But in reality they will just say nothing more than they are working on it.
The comments they already said was pretty detailed. Even explained possible solutions but still working on better ones etc.
@Zelxin
This thread would answer most, if not all, your questions. Basically, the same with what everyone else have said.
The two laptop link both use integrated video HD4000, they would work but not great you will be playing at low settings.
The desktop link is better, with a decent videocard, probably medium settings, but if you are going desktop route there are better ones out there for that price. Even better yet build one yourself if you have the aptitude
The comments made by the developer is a month old from a open public reddit AMA session of users asking questions. They don’t do those event often at all.
They do go in detail about why it works the way it does, and what they plan on doing. However, nothing has changed since. Programming takes time, a long time.
Don’t think its the matter of your HD. I am running with a SSD and when running into trading post in LA fast people don’t load immediately. Its just the way culling is implemented and the developer decided to do so for a reason, but they are working out a better method.
btw, if you do want a faster HD, you don’t need to spend 200euro. A 64 or 128GB SSD doesn’t cost that much now, 40-70 Euro. Use the SSD for OS/games and your WDC for regular storage like video/music etc
(edited by kirito.4138)
Here is another CPU chart on single thread performance which affect game performance. Dominated by intel processors.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
This is called culling issues.
Read Q11, part on culling issues. The developer has commented and explained the problem.

If you don’t have the OS disk, most notebook/desktop pc vendor provide a backup image to restore the system to factory defaults.
That, or try uninstalling flash/shockwave completely to see if it helps.
if you still have the gw2.dat just reinstall the client. Its probably looking at an old path or something.
I love the tips here, all are targetting the user instead of the contributor lol…
Don’t know what you are blabbering about.
i did repair everything already still crash
You should try stress testing your system.
Its a pain, but if you do a clean OS install, drivers, GW2 and nothing else that helps by ruling out software configuration problems that might interfere. Then its down to narrowing hardware issues.
I guess Anet assumed it was a wide spread issue and pushed the notice via social media because those get the most general views. They should have done forum notice at the same time.
local.dat will regenerate itself when you play gw2 again. People actually delete that from times when the game gets glitchy as a workaround fix.
Tried a clean OS install yet?
GW2 will run, but performance will be horrible.
Should go for the 3570k, (k) ones lets you overclock and there been many sales on it the past week. Frys.com had 3570k + mobo for 189.99, Microcenter and Tigerdirect had cheap sales too. Best one I think was the 2500k for $99 at microcenter.
I’m only on Q6600 @3.2ghz with GTX 660 so my machine is less powerful than yours, but I don’t get single digit fps when turning. Something is funky with your system, have you tried fiddling with Nvidia control panel setting and turning off SLI?
