How can there be a CPU bottleneck?
-None of our CPUs are running at 100%
-You all keep saying “the cpu is being maxed out at 25% because it separates it on 4 cores”. This would make sense, although most of us running on i7’s have HT enabled, making that 8 cores instead of 4, so the CPU can’t possibly be maxed out.
-There’s a difference between a bottleneck and this game only using 2-3 threads. If 2-3 threads of your CPU are being maxed out and your other 5 cores aren’t being touched then it is an issue with the game’s engine, not your CPU! A CPU is only bottlenecked when it’s at full load, which is apparently impossible in this game.
-Run prime 95 on your Quad Core CPUs. You’ll notice that all of your CPU cores go up to 100% – not 25%. That immediately proves your whole theory of 4 cores/100%= 25%/core wrong.Kirito, you’re just giving everyone on here a huge reason to waste money on a new system. Granted, if your system is sub-par then yes, that is understandable, but it you’re just running around saying CPU bottleneck.
Please “re-read” Question #7 #8 here

The argument points you have presented has already been explained in detail there. Similarly, other people have replied with the same response invalidating your logic. But, you either don’t have the mental capacity to comprehend or simply never bothered reading it. Please, do your homework next time.
I am not making up reasons for people to buy new hardware, it is mere fact and measurable one. It is more likely you are too unwilling to accept the thought that your system is not the beast it was built to be & in denial. No matter how powerful a system can be, software can be coded to bring it down to its knees, whether its poorly written or not.

Your system should be be able to get over 60fps, unless you are talking about WvWvW or crowded cities.
What is your Core CPU% and GPU%usage.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
doesn’t matter how many generation a CPU is behind a GPU or how badly coded/optimize something is. If its the CPU usage is maxed out, it is the bottleneck and GPU is idling. You fix it by either getting faster hardware or optimizing software.
obviously you haven’t read it or simply don’t understand it. Many people ponder the same questions, linking is better than rephrase/retyping repeatedly.

AMD’s single core speed isn’t up to par with INTEL’s and people have come to believe GW2 isn’t optimized for AMD, but it looks like its Windows 7 that isn’t optimized and not totally GW2’s fault.
Any AMD bulldozer users tried this optimizing tweak?

if you can’t afford a completely new build, start with a GPU upgrade for now.
I run Q6600 @ 3.2ghz with GTX 660. Getting about 40-65fps @ 1680×1050 best appearance setting in PVE which is very playable. However, WvWvW and crowded cities it still drops below 25fps.

the CPU and GPU safety features to throttle and shutdown in overheating situations won’t kill the chips, but playing long periods of time with high heat will shorten the fan’s life expectancy. They are replaceable, but sure are annoying to in laptops. Cooler always better.

GPU over 90C or CPU over 70C is marching into danger zone. Give your laptop some space underneath for airflow. Clean out the dust. Play at lower settings and cap the FPS if you want to reduce heat. You can continue playing as long as it doesn’t go over 80s.

GW2 will tax your system to the limit working it very hard. Fans will spin harder trying to cool your PSU/CPU/GPU. Fans do wear out over time especially in hot environments.
Check your temps and open up look at the fans. Only other thing that makes noise could be your DVD drive or spinning HD.
Another guess would be the the soundcard is getting interference from inside the case or maybe soundcard driver issues. No clue what “Weeewwww Weeewww” noise is lol

GW2 uses more than 1 core, but it’s main game thread, like any other game, runs off one core. (See Question#8)
A GPU is used to render graphics, you still need the CPU to calculate when/where objects need to be drawn. (See Question#4, 10, 12)]

Set something like Path contains E:\ or something and refresh the list.

I guess if you don’t have a spare PSU to test, you could try intentionally underclocking the CPU and/or GPU to put less load on the PSU. If it runs without shutting down by doing so then likely its your PSU. But since you brought it to your local computer repair shop lets see what they find out =]

I’ve been playing the game since early release just about daily. I went out of town for one week, came back and tried to log into the game to play a bit and after just a couple of minutes playing the computer shuts down then restarts. I have checked and the computer is not overheating, the GPU is not overheating. I ran two other games to see if the same thing happens and it does not, it seems to be something that only happens when playing GW2. It has been working perfectly for the last couple of months, but now this is happening. Anyone else having the same problem? Anyone know what might be the problem?
your computer video is being over clocked, and its over heating our compute. You need to find updated drive NCSOFT has negelected to tell their customers about. If you do not do this it will damage your laptop. I had the same problems and it was over clocking my video cad to 90-100 FPS, if you log into your Options menu and see what your FPS during game play you will see if its higher than normal. That if you ever monitor your FPS before.
Exzar.6420 you made a separate post ranting about this earlier and moderators removed it. Don’t believe what he is saying, obviously doesn’t know what overclocking is.

If you are happy with a 550 ti on your desktop and want something similar for a laptop. Find one with GTX 560M/6750M or better. Those mobile GPU are comparable to your 550 ti.
However, those laptop tend to be about $1000 or higher.

Depends what you define as “decent”, but $800 for a gaming laptop is on the low end of the spectrum and GW2 is rather demanding game.
However for $800 u can build a solid desktop for GW2.

Hello,
Having read other threads and the stickies in this forum I am aware that there is ongoing work aimed at improving performance within the game on those machines that exceed the minimum spec required.
I am one of those people experiencing low frame rates (Max 21fps, min 12fps). The more going on the lower the frame rate naturally in WvW. Anyway my machine exceeds the minimum spec and no amount of changing settings in game or at the nvidia control panel helps.
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Service Pack 1
System Model: Asus P5Q-PRO Motherboard
Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600

If your PSU is dying slowly or can’t provide enough power the computer will shut it self down. Running 3D games/application will draw a lot of power.
Usually, the best way to test if the PSU is faulty is to try a different one.
You didn’t post your complete specs for your computer so its hard to give further advice. Good news is you can reproduce the problem, but bad news is i think your PSU might be the culprit.

According to the game my computer needs a Shader model 3.0 capable graphics card. Does anyone know where I can buy or download one?
basically means any graphic card that support DirectX 9.0c will have Shader model 3.0
Most, if not, all decent graphic cards sold in computer/electronic stores or online support it now.
If you bought the game and can’t run it. Unfortunately, you likely have very a old computer/laptop which probably need a entire new machine to play this game well.

HotM is a smaller area than WvW and Open PVE. Fewer calculations bottlenecking the main game thread, it is more free to instruct other threads/cores/gpu to do work.
Like wise, the opposite occurs when you enter a busy area like Lion Arch or WvWvW where FPS drops a lot for people. Much bigger area, lots more people, objects, more work that the main game thread needs to do and gets bottlenecked harder. GPU sits there waiting.
