If everything works fine and now it reboots I wonder if your PSU is slowly dying under stress/load. Maybe look at what windows update was installed if it relates to hardware. Are you overheating?

That sounds like heat issue. CPU and/or GPU throttles down when it gets too hot.

Lag as in network lag or graphical lag?

Network lag can be due to your connection via the ISP, or the server’s connection unable to handle the # of connections or hardware being loaded.

BTW, 30Mbps is not a speed metric, it is capacity/bandwidth, and is nothing to do with lag. (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/694) Now ping/latency is what speed is about and important to network lag.

Graphical lag would be too much stuff occurring for your hardware to maintain decent FPS.

Sometimes it shows a lot of files remaining, but zips through them fast. It might only need to download the delta of changes in the file or just need to check. But since you crashed a couple times it might have corrupted something and need to re-download more. Don’t think there is much to do but let it re-download the parts its missing and remember to make a backup copy of your gw2 folder next time before patch.

That should be about right for a C2D. GW2 is very heavily cpu bound and yes, it is that bad. I say overclock if you can’t upgrade for better fps. I am using Q6600 @ 3.2ghz and get 40-60fps in PVE, but still 15-25 in LA.

The DL meter shown by the download client probably isn’t really accurate. Look at your networking tab in task manager or network tab in resource monitor to get better data.

Sometimes the server is heavily loaded trying to serve thousands if not millions of people getting patch all at the same time and it can choke trying to load balance.

Alternatively, your router could have QoS features that prioritize and/or throttle network traffic.

yea and that 15GB+ .dat file is also compressed so your CPU is going have to work loading it. Probably why you don’t see much difference.

You wont get 120fps in large WvW battles with the best cpu/gpu on the market. And WvW is cpu dependent so really the gpu is a non factor.

OC’ed my i7 950 to over 4GHz without ANY performance boost
but OC’ing my GPU’s clock from 772MHz to 888MHz gave me 10 frames per second more

so the GPU is not less important than the CPU

alphacentari probably meant gpu as a non-factor for most people with high end system since the CPU is bottlenecking in WvWvW for even the best consumer CPU OC’ed. CPU & GPU are mutually inclusive in FPS performance, but in GW2 case the CPU is weighted very heavily.

I only use dexpot for the window catalog expose clone feature & multi desktop. Everything else was left at default settings.

Try overclocking if you can. I have a Core2 Q6600 overclocked to 3.2GHZ and I am able to get 40-60fps in PVE. 15-30fps in cities/events/WvWvW

I think you will need to invest in some liquid nitrogen/helium cooling system and overclock like mad towards 8GHZ. Then maybe its possible.

Try deleting your local.dat file

I am using dexpot 1.6.3 build 2167 without any issues, I haven’t tired the newer 1.6.4 yet.

does it matter if you are using wired or wireless mode?

You can monitor/confirm the CPU is being bottlenecked either by gw2 or another process.

I feel like I could get better results that what I am currently getting. These things aren’t the problem though. The problem that annoys me is that very frequently when I turn the camera, my fps drops dramatically to maybe 5fps or lower then it is fine for a little while again. I figure it is loading the map or something. Seriously though, it shoudn’t hit my fps like that all of the time. It sort of ruins my experience…

Crowded cities are problematic for most if not everyone. Read Q13 on fps issue when rotating camera

Monitor your CPU and GPU usage when you move your mouse. Maybe something is running in the background or something related to the mouse. (Read Q5 for tools to monitor)

Yup, just copy the folder.

3570k also has HD4000 integrated gpu which is much faster than the 2500k HD3000. Its a decent as a backup.

If you have a motherboard that support Lucidlogix Virtu MVP, you can combine the HD4000 with a dedicated GPU and get more juice, but its still bit buggy.

In other words, game is so unoptimized that lazy developers instead blame players specs and forces them to burn their chips and upgrade them, just for one game, though other games run fine already.

• Yes, the game is not optimized (you would have known this if you actually read my FAQ thread, states it multiple times)

• I am not forcing people to buy new hardware or overclock, those are mere workarounds people can take. If people want more fps those are the only options since we users can’t fix the code our self.

• Not blaming anyone. If the cpu is bottlenecked, then it is by definition regardless of how inefficient the game is. No different than saying “The sink is clogging up”

Since you haven’t listed any system specs it is hard to diagnosis much other than the assumption your system is barely exceeding min requirements.

You might be able to control the cpufan using Speedfan

I use it for my desktop to custom configure my fans, not sure how well it works with notebooks.

Have you tried using Fullscreen windowed mode instead?

Turn down graphic settings, overclock your CPU like i did with my Q6600, or buy a new faster processor.

I am using dual monitor with GW2 fine. Fullscreen windowed mode works, my mouse isn’t locked on gw screen.

I dont use double tap to dodge, instead I have a separate button on my mouse or keyboard key. I have tendency to dodge by accident when its enabled.

go in the graphic options and choose fullscreen windowed mode.

You can easily verify the CPU is bottlenecking by watching its %usage and clockspeed.

There is a general misconception that the GPU or graphic card is what determines the FPS performance. What most people don’t realize is that the CPU is just as important. No matter how fast the GPU is the FPS will not increase if the CPU does not instruct the GPU to render. Often people would buy powerful GPU and pair it with a weak CPU and start to wonder why their FPS doesn’t change.Conversely the GPU can be the bottleneck when it can’t handle the data given by the CPU.

Q5: How do you check for CPU/GPU usage?
A: There are many programs to use. Here are some.

1. HwINFO
2. Process Explorer
3. MSI After Burner (formerly rivatuner)
4. GPU-Z / CPU-Z

Q6: FPS low or stuttering with 100% GPU usage?
A: Several possibilities.

1. GPU is bottlenecked working at its full potental. Lower graphic settings if possible
2. GPU clock speed is throttled or artifically set low by other applications or settings.
3. GPU has disabled cores, unlikely but possible.
4. Bad drivers, update or rollback version
5. Possible bios issues with the card and/or motherboard. Try updating bios, or reseating gfx card.

But that laptop should run medium settings with decent fps for PVE content. Just don’t expect 60fps+.

You won’t see any difference using it either way in terms of performance.

However, I do have a preference of keeping the OS isolated on it’s own encrypted drive. While my games will be on a second un-encrypted drive. Just makes it easier when I need to fix/move/update the OS. Also makes drive imaging and backups easier.

Your settings are at the lowest and the laptop GPU isn’t upgradable, so you there is little you can do to improve FPS.

Although, you can hack your laptop into using a desktop GPU.
