Does windowed mode work better?
Can you replicate the blackscreen/crash stress testing in something like 3dmarks or furmarks?

Actually, keep watching for parts sales, as they are trickling in daily deals going up towards BF day and after. At least for newegg.

But, I like HwINFO (Q5 for links) to monitor. It got more info to look at and log.

Look at this thread to see what other people’s specs and fps they are getting. Use that as a rough guideline depending on what you want.

As for buying parts, Black Friday is coming. wait two weeks. should be many parts on sale. Might be even cpu/mobo/ram combo deals on newegg.
You can buy AMD CPU if you want, they are cheaper, but you also get lower performance with it, so you get what you pay for.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Have you tried windowed mode?
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Might be some compatibility issues with that ram speed on the mobo or something. You don’t get any more crashes or fps issues, so whatever works.

I came from runes of magic and siege battles with 30+ players was even worse. Lots of lag, people port around, and non stop client crashes. On top of that GMs was banning people because other players report each other claiming hacks via porting around.

Some people have pickier eyes than others. Once you get used to 60fps+ drops can be noticeable and bug you mentally. I notice when it drops, it annoys me, but still very playable.

Turn reflections off and shadows down lower would help. (See Q13 for details)

I would say 15-20 is about right. Geforce 9100 is very low end GPU, you are probably running with everything on low settings. Actually, surprised you managed to get 15-20 lol.
Look at this thread to see what hardware other people are using and their FPS.

You are better off buying a new system than trying to upgrade.

I wouldn’t be surprised that your college internet is being throttled due to load or policy. Well if you want to by pass your network snooping around on your connection/ports you can try using a VPN tunnel.

ahh ok man, so, do you think that CPU is bottlenecked? It is a very decent cpu, and I have hard time believing its bottlenecking
Yes, in WvWvW your CPU is very likely to be bottlenecked. That is why alot of people recommend OCing.
Read Q7-8 it explains why and how you can measure/confirm it yourself.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-GPU-CPU-Performance-issues-FAQ/first#post504481
i would like to think it is my cpu (which is kitten good) and its GW2 non-optimized game engine hahah.
It is both. Since you can’t fix the code yourself your only option is to counter it by overclocking.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
You are not the only one, everyone is experiencing it.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
WvWvW is an issue for everyone. GW2 is very CPU-bound atm. Only thing us users can do is Overclock our CPU. Having better GPU in WvW doesn’t improve fps.
Read Q11, on what the developer had to say about it.

Likely it will run on mostly low settings, maybe some medium, but prob get 15-20FPS questing in PVE, and much lower in cities. Its playable, but not smooth and enjoyable.

There’s a small chance anyone can help you here, you will get some general advices like cleaning your pc and checking temps/usage etc. , but nothing more.
If your PC and system is clean then you’ve got same problem as 10000 ppl here and you have to wait for Anet to fix this game probably …
There are many points of failure in a computer and everyone has different hardware and software configurations. General advice is given because of this. Troubleshoot and process of elimination is the way, there is no magic bullet.
@RetroSamus.9860
Your system is very good, when you get random low fps, what kind of #s are you talking about, and where. What is your CPU & GPU (see Q5) loads during the random dips? What about disk activity (use resource monitor to find out)
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
You won’t see a full load on a quad core CPU. Read Q7 of this thread to understand why.
Gibbel has the same CPU and getting better FPS. Keep trying to roll back to previous version of drivers, might something in the 7850 that drivers isn’t playing nice with. Fiddled with the ATI catalyst settings?
When you get 5-10fps in Black citadel city, what is your GPU %usage at, and gw2 thread usage? (see Q5 & 8)

Those are WoW benchmarks, but you could use that as rough measurements. Gw2 being very CPU bound would get lower results. You get more cores, but that won’t help GW2 much.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
If you got extra $ to spend. I would go for a Core i5. Try to go for a 2500K or higher, the “K” lets you OC with unlock multiplier.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Dual core runs games well and cheap, but I still would go for a Quad. GW2 wont fully utilize all 4 cores, more like 2.5ish, but it still leaves room for other stuff in the background to run.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
That’s still pretty subjective. Some people want 30 FPS min, while others demand 60, but some can be happy at 15.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
WvWvW is very demanding of the CPU atm. Not sure what your personal definition of “no lag” is in terms of FPS, but likely you would want a better CPU and OC.
Checkout this thread of other people’s specs and FPS

GPU % usage typically drop in heavy areas like Lion Arch where it bottlenecks the CPU. Your screenshot shows about 27% load in LA, which is expected.
As for your laptop being better than you room mate, but performing lower, there is only a few options left as to why. Might be drivers not optimize or something within the OS or directx or software side. Did you try deleting the Local.dat file in your GW2 document folder?
Try running 3dmarks benchmark on both your laptop and room mate’s. See if your score is actually higher.

People have report FPS loss with opening guild panel or contact panel or any panel etc. Some have concluded it was due to their installed version of adobe flash since the GUI uses flash. Updating flash and/or disabling hardware acceleration helped some, but not all.

I had disconnects when playing games with my DSL provider (Not just GW2 but other games too). Turns out the problem was on their end at the DSLAM. Took 3 field tech to finally figure it out, support was too obsessed with blaming it on my end. Although, there are many points of failure and yours could be different. If you got DSL check your CRC packet loss in your modem config.

your CPU/GPU is working near its peak. You claim the two laptop is equivalent. All there is left is software difference via drivers or installed applications in the background eating resources.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Your CPU/GPU is at it’s limit, all you can do now is lower your settings.
Samsung RF511 (Core i7-2630M) has a better CPU than yours. GW2 is more dependent on CPU than GPU.

Strange.
Our guild just had a massive influx of people coming over from Runes of Magic. I see continous overflows in Lions Arch again. There’s people running all over the world, including the mid-level zones around 50.

What’s interesting on the best settings it is just the same, as well as on the lowest… ( during any battle)
Typical sign the CPU is bottlenecked. However, your GPU isn’t that great too for GW2, so that doesn’t help any.

Kirito, you’re just giving everyone on here a huge reason to waste money on a new system. Granted, if your system is sub-par then yes, that is understandable, but it you’re just running around saying CPU bottleneck.
He just keep spamming this ridiculous cpu bottleneck post on every thread, just ignore him. My hardware perform 120+fps on every heavy new game, this is just poor optimization and bad coding. Period.
Its not ridiculous, its mere fact and a measurable one. I am not denying GW2 isn’t optimized and could be better. If the hardware is bottlenecked, it is what it is. Whether due to good or bad code or if your other games has higher FPS. If you read the FAQ list i complied, it mentions multiple times GW2 isn’t optimized. You are directing your frustration at the wrong person.
People repeatedly ask why, want to understand why, and I provided that information. Not promoting anything. There is no magic fix atm.
You got two choices if you want better performance.
1) get better hardware to counter the bad code.
2) wait & pray that Anet will fix it and optimize.

@SolarNova lol, I think that’s too much #’s/text for Homestyle to grasp.
@Cool Hand have you tried running windowed fullscreen, switching between desktop and gw2 is smoother.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
You should definitly get more than 60, but if it stays fixed at 60 constantly out in the PVE or Heart of the Mist training area. Then I would say you have V-sync or frame limiter enabled either in the game setttings or outside in the drivers profile or maybe 3rd party tools like MSI afterburner.

Your CPU is bottlenecking when running GW2.
Read this thread to understand why in detail and how to confirm it yourself.

Are there any plans for a patch to optimise game performance
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: kirito.4138
You can’t look at total CPU % usage. Need too look at the per-thread usage. Read Question #7 & #8 again for detailed explanation of why it is, and how to confirm it yourself. Core i7 3930K has 6 cores. GW2 uses about ~2-3cores. So 30% usage seems about right. You can use GPU-Z to check your PCI-express, but likely that isn’t going to be bottlenecking unless you put it on a slow slot.
Disabling hyperthreading might help some too on a core i7

Some settings tax the CPU more than GPU, while other settings are mainly defendant on GPU abilities. But reflection and shadows are the two biggest fps killer for most people.
