i think the problem is you lack Vit, also some Healling power wouldn’t hurt, i run with a very simillar spec but my gear is different
tanky set: Soldier Armor and Magi trinkets and weapon
not so tanky spec: Knight armor, same trinkets/weapon
on my tanky set i’m using a mix of Giver and Monk runes to get that 30% boon duration plus some healling power, trinkets with Knight orbs cause Magi tinkets don’t have their own jewels
the not so tanky set has orbs (prec/vit/%crit dmg) instead of runes with the same magi trinkets
so that way i have about 18k hp, 2.8k armor, 800~ healling power, almost 1.4k power, 40-something% crit chance
well i hope that helps you, cause i have no problems whatsoever running cof or hotw, sometimes i can’t believe how tanky i can be xD
My guardian, Morrigan. Armour is Knight’s Draconic (exotic), appearance from the Vigil faction set. Colours are pitch (as if I’m buying abyss… pfft) and mithril (as if I’m buying white… pfft).
If you want a really nice White-ish color buy Icing Dye and for black most Midnight something Dye are good, Midnight Ice looks almost like Abyss… for Metal pieces Gunmetal or Iron Dye look good too
AH has some crazy healling, but is not a good “solo” build, it shines in group battles, but solo is pretty weak.
My advice is, think about what role you want to fulfill in sPvP or WvW, then look for what stats/traits would help you achieve it, then create your own build, taking “pre-made” builds works fine, but i think is not optimal.
here are my 2 armor sets, i’m currently in love with Whispers’ heavy armor xD
@Pope: that mix looks simply AMAZING! if I ever get the Arah pants i’ll try some variation like that
(edited by korelg.7862)
if you are running with AH i’d recommend Magi (Prec/vit/heal) trinkets, in combination with soldier(higher hp) or knight(more crits) armor and weapon
you get a pretty high crit rate, lots of healling going on and pretty decent damage
i think the problem of the phantasm not hitting isn’t actually a bug, i’ve been lvling a warrior (lvl 46 so far) and is pretty common for me to miss completely when using whirlwind, sometimes i hit once, sometimes not even once, the problem is, this attack relays too heavily on positioning… the lower damage i agree that is a bug, but the missing hits, sadly, isn’t
why hammer vs GS, better run with hammer AND GS, will make your life easier in both PvP and PvE
Here is Marissa Bigrack
Helm: Human Tier3
Shoulders: CM tokens
Chest: Human Tier3
Hands: Primeval (gem store)
Legs: Human Tier3
Boots: CoF tokens
for all the thoughness fans out there, Condition damage will eat you out in a flash if you dont have some vitality, Poison + Bleed and you are dead, even having just poison will make you suffer a lot more that a guardian with some vitality on
i’m using power/vit/tough armor with vit/crit/heal power trinkets and weapons (hammer and mace/shield)
as for the runes I use 4 Giver and 2 Monk, Sigils Rage on shield(might switch this one cause it doesn’t help as much as i thought it would) the one that gives +10 precision on kill for the mace and Intelligence on hammer for that nice 100% MB crit every 16 seconds
i think the best stat combo is power/vit/tough armor and Vit/crit/heal-pow trinkets + back slot, weapons can be Knight or vit/crit/heal-pow, whatever works for you.
this is what gave me the best results, 18k hp, about 3k armor and 1k+ Healing power, also pick up a +10 prec on kill sigil for a nice boost on crit chance
well this is because, while it is true that heal pow goes well with toughness, you still need some vitality, cause our base hp is way too low
i’d advice you to read the sticky post regarding the crit/AH build, that stat combo is discussed there, and reading the whole thing is quite enlightening
selling armor/weapons for real money is the definitionof Pay-2-win and believe me, you DO NOT want that…
I see the mesmer closer to an hypnotist/arcane mage, the idea of it being some kind of performer never crossed my mind…
here is my pyromaniac guardian, Torch is such an awesome weapon xD also blue flames to make it double awesome
my human female has pure black hair, i’d like to use some of my armor dyes for her hair though
Anyone know what pieces these are? Especially the top.
Chest and Shoulders are Feathered crafted
Legs are Human Tier 3 Cultural
Head is the under lvl 80 exotic skin
I think this could be fixed by having an equivalent PvE instance of server-wide objectives, something like this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/New-Dungeon-Style-server-wide-objectives
currently PvE content is quite weak, casual players might be fine, but if you have a bit more time to play, dungeons get old quickly
lvl25 atm but doing pretty well..can’t wait for some higher levels are more good looking armor and some nice weapon skins =D
PLEASE!! tell me the name of those legs and chest
also, my guardian lvl 37 atm
OP, what did you just say? the “evil” mask looks awesome in my norn!!, look at her… now repent you puny charr! or else it seems i’ll have some extra fur this winter…
PD: ha ha, joke… but no, seriously, how can that mask look bad on a Norn?
it would be cool if we could store our old skins like the system they use in DCUO, just modify the Transmutation stones to work with that, so the skin is’t consumed in the transmutation process and you will still get money from them
Okay, I’ll start saying that when fractals were anounced i was hoping for something like this, so Fractals was kinda a letdown, without further ado I’ll proceed to explain my idea.
So, i thought about this after seeing how fractals worked mixed with a concept I saw on a japanese cartoon (Sword Art Online).
What I suggest is basically an “endless tower” of dungeons, but not like Fractals, I’m talking about non-instanced dungeons much like Ragnarok Online dungeons used to be… this “tower” would work like this:
-The whole server can access to the 1st floor on the opening day (might want to add some kind of opening event too).
-Every floor has its boss and as soon as the floor boss is beaten, the next floor will open up FOR EVERYONE on that server.
-Each floor would work kind of like dynamic events, there is no limit on the amount of people that can join the fight and the fight will scale acordingly, but each floor can be beaten ONLY ONCE.
-What happens with each floor after is beaten is up to you, might want to turn it into a neutral area or just a farming zone, but no more boss, the dead boss remains dead.
-Rewards should be all about being recognized in some way, no more shinys, skins are ok though, put something like a memorial stone with the name of every hero that helped in that last boss fight, give some crazy armor skin to the person that deals the killing blow, that will bring back that “heroic” feeling to the game.
-No more gear tiers, one thing i really dislike about Fractals is the fact that you NEED to farm ascended gear to keep going forward, and “agony” is an extremely lame mechanic, might as well add a timer to the fight and you get the same result. Add dificulty to the fight through combat mechanics, force the players to dodge!!
-Also, this is really important, DO NOT be afraid to make extremelly hard boss fights, force us to work hard!! there is plenty of “easy” content already(which is good btw)
So that is basically it, now why would you, Anet, want to implement something like this?
-PvE intra-server competitivity, currently the PvE comunity doesn’t have much of a goal to pursue, with this kind of content you will favor the organized PvE comunity, entire guilds would rise to take the challenge!!
-PvE inter-server competitivity, much like the WvWvW ranking, the completion level ranking would rise the competitive spirit among the PvE comunity between servers like WvWvW does for the PvP comunity.
-This brings back that Epicness that we felt when we created our 1st character, it would make the “This is my story…” phrase, much more meaningfull.
That’s all, any suggestion from my fellow players would be great, and Anet, keep up the good work, the game is certainly not perfect, but it is awesome indeed!!
That model is the one that every Exotic light armor under lvl 80 uses, also the lvl 80 armor that has “names” on it shares this model
my experience:
lately i’ve taken a liking to the iWarden and as you probably know, this phantasm wont follow it’s target,Actually, I am starting to feel they are designed that way on purpose because of their whirl finisher, it would suck if they kept moving out of the fields you place on them to benefit from their combo field whirl finishers (which are sick btw)…. Additionally, the wardens do move, but only when the target has moved more than 900 away from the warden (out of the reach of any whirl finisher range I assume).
If you are good at kiting, you can use this understanding to actually reposition your wardens, kite the move past 900, warden will reposition… profit
this is half true, the warden DOES move on certain scenarios, mainly when it gets LoS’d, but if you go out of range it will walk indeed but only to get in the 900 range, it wont go stand right next to the target… when it gets LoS’d it’ll get close, that’s the best posible scenario
The tooltip is incorrect if you have both Illusionists Celerity and Warden’s Feedback, or any other weapon-specific traits that reduce illusion-summoning recharge.
If you turn on recharge timer in option, you can see that the recharge works as intended. You can time it yourself of course.
^this, they do stack, but you wont get the 40% reduction, it varies between weapons but it is arround 35%~40% tooltip will show only 20% though
There is also much to be said about the lackluster-ness of dungeon how and they fail to really tell a worthwhile story or give a memorable experience. In my case, I skipped the majority of the story mode’s simply because leveling my personal story and doing hearts/dynamic events were more than enough to lvl me quickly. Going back, there was no reason to replay those story mode’s, effectively loosing out on a large chunk of the story plot that we are all supposed to be following (Destiney’s Edge). Then once you hit 80 the goal is to grind ONE dungeon until you get a set of desired exotic armor/weapons. This makes you less motivated to venture out and do other dungeons due to the fact that the only reason to do dungeons at 80 is for the respected tokens. Then once you get your cool gear set…then what? You get into fractals and have to repeat the same frustrating process of finding a group, dealing with DC’s, etc. all so that you can get ascended gear? But on top of that, the drive to get the best in slot gear is non-existant really. There are few instances where the difference between your dungeon exotics and ascended gear will make a big enough difference in PvE. So then you feel like your doing all this work for little reward. It just feels like there is little motivation to be constantly getting better gear because there doesn’t exist the exclusion of raid spots where gear scores are relevant. This game has alot of elements that are superior to WoW, but something that WoW did well was have raids that felt epic (to a degree). Every raid run was a challenge and every boss could drop an amazing item for you. You were excited to participate and EARN your spot in that raid. That excitement does not exist in GW2 PvE.
I think you are missing something there bud, when you gear up your character and, lets say, you have a “complete character” what’s left to do? PLAY THE GAME!! why are you gearing? to play the game!! you shouldn’t be allways chasing the shiny gear-carrot, i enjoy running dungeons with my guildies, then sometimes i’ll go to WvW or just go arround from map to map chasing some events, do some Legendary farming level up that profession you never cared about, there is always something to do… but dont think that every single thing you do has to be rewarded… when you were a child and you played with your toys, you did it for the fun!! not to get a “toy upgrade” xD am I right?
my experience:
i use a phantasm/cond damage hybrid build, and lately i’ve taken a liking to the iWarden and as you probably know, this phantasm wont follow it’s target, so i’ve forced myself to use shatters and they have proven to be quite useful, BUT they are still quite far from being a “core” skill to me
so yeah, i think our F1-F4 skills are BAD, Shatters should be utility skills, i’ve played a warrior, a guardian, a ranger and a thief, and they all have usefull skills there, and are skills that can be used by ANY build you use… in comparison a condition mesmer will get little to none benefit from shatters except the utility of F3 and F4, and in PvP F2, a Phantasm mesmer will get little to none benefit from shatters, not even the utility from F3 and F4 can outweigh the loss of DPS
about the trait lanes, well I think they are pretty well designed, lets take a look:
Empowered Illusions: by getting this trait you get +100 power, which is good
Phantasmal Fury + Sharper Images: you get +150 Precision and +15% crit damage, also pretty good
Phantasmal Strenght + Persisting Images: you get +200 Vitality wich increase your HP AND your phantasms health (see the synergy here? Persisting Images says hi!) also a nice +200 healling power
Phantasmal Haste + Illusionist Celerity + Compounding Power: you get +200 Cond Damage (see the synergy here? Sharper Images says hi!) and that +20% shatter recharge, well that’s kitten xD
so yeah, while the las trait lane gives you some tools for a shatter build, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to use shatters, imagine we had trait lanes with specific traits for specific build completely apart, that would force everyone to pick the exact same traits for any given build, the good thing about traits right now is that you can pick whatever you think its good and it will probably work, the downside is that you will also get bonusses that you will never actually use, but that’s actually a really cheap price to pay
tl;dr: Shatters are kitten, shouldn’t be at our “F” slot, Trait lanes are well designed
I can only agree with the Personal Story part…
not having something that tells you what to do is part of the fun, I started playing my mesmer being new to the GW world, probably started with very bad trait choices, but then did a little reading on the forums, actually looked over all my traits and skills looking for synergies and settled with a nice build that fits my playstyle, for the 1st time i felt like the character is built as I want it, and not led by a cookie cutter build to “max dps”
Not having clear roles in dungeons, well you just gotta communicate with your party, i’ve been in all kinds of groups, some of them really messy, some others really well organized and yes, being organized does make the ride a whole lot funner, but the good thing is that the messy group can still pull through, probaably gonna spend more on your repair fee, but still made it!
Dynamic events? I was convinced that DE were suposed to be there just to spice things up, I allways did levelling through heart completion and exploration, so this “levelling up with dynamic events” thing is new to me.
The freedom to explore is other thing i really apreciate, I came here from WoW, and it was so anoying to be in this really cool area and suddenly run out of quests, “now gotta move on” and didn’t even explore 50% of the whole map, now here i take my time, i can actually take my time and still gain levels!!
crafting can be a pain sometimes, specially low levels, but is in no way mandatory, and putting some effort to level it up actually rewards you with exp, still Anet could give some love to crafting, but i don’t see it as such a “bad thing” as it is now
tl;dr: I do not agree, the game has its flaws? yes, but those are NOT… except the Personal Story, but I still hope we will see some more in the future to make up for the lack of “personal” stuff
No supper tonight: commands respect, like a vengeful dad out to get stuff done. I like the originality, don’t like the fact it’s not roleplay.
Heimdul Vanaheimson, warrior of the far north, fast and ferocious like a wolf!
well you got a pretty barbarian-ish name there, also that lastname makes me think of some kind of nordic deity or sacred place, quite fitting for a warrior!!
Kelissa Brann, like her guardian spirit, the snow leopard, she’s devious and sneaky, and will mesmerize you to death xD
For some reason i just hate shatters, never used them and I do quite well on PvE, i’m using a pretty weird build though phantasm/bleeds -centric
Shatters should have been utilities instead of signets…
Dating a female mesmer:
Pro: clones, you got your own harem!!
Con: yeah but you also got 4 times the kittening
Dating a male mesmer:
Pro: again, you got clones!!… if you know what i mean
Con: well you got 4 guys to satisfy… might be a bit tiresome xD
so ladies and gentlemen, start dating us mesmers NOW!
sometimes I feel like dressing my char as sexy as possible and sometimes I just wanna make her look bad kitten and intimidating, so yeah, I’m all for more skimpy clothes, but i also want an equal number of bad kitten but not-so-skimpy clothes
i wish we had armor as awesome as in Blade&Soul, that would be just… PERFECT!!
so you want a PTR… and no more 1-time Events… you basically want to play a typical MMO
lets consider some things:
1st. so far GW2 events have been awesome, save the karka event, that was bad
2nd. the game is like 4(?) months old whe have had 3 big events and 2 have been total success
3rd. Anet is learning with every event, let them do their magic
4th. after playing wow for a couple of years, GW2 events are WAAAAAY better
so considering that, don’t complain just yet, feedback is good, but keep it positive!
i’ve liked the 1-time stuff, beisdes, is just some silly cinematics, so dont feel too left out if you miss one, and even if they give away shinys like in the karka event, is just that, missing 2 or 3 shinys won’t break your game
TWO HANDED SHIELDS.
also nunchucks. or bare hands combat
the other day someone posted about “Foo Strategies” i think Warriors (and maybe guardians) are THE Foo class in this game, i’ve played a bit as Thief, Ranger, Guardian and Warrior, and kitten! warriors are such an extreme facerolling class, but think about that totally noob people that came to play GW2, they need something to get into the game… also if you pay attention, is not that hard to make full use of a warrior’s potential, but a mesmer well played can do the same or even more (well not AoE damage, but that’s another story)
so think about it this way:
Warrior = Easy mode
Mesmer = Hard mode (well is not thaaaat hard, but still)
Got some movement improvements coming for Mesmer also. Mostly more reliable swiftness.
nice! maybe a signet effect?
my dear OP, i started this game the 1st day of pre-launch playing a mesmer, i had never played GW before, so i was a total noob, the thing is, I never, NEVER felt weak, everything was better than expected and i had really high expectations for this game to begin with… so do not listen all the people saying mesmer is weak, cause it isn’t, if you really want to play as a mesmer and if the class actually fits your taste, dude, you are gonna have sooooo much fun…
so go ahead, play a mesmer and fall in love with it.
WARNING: playing a mesmer might cause extreme boredom when playing another class.
my advice is: never get married with a weapon set.
I allways carry all the weapons a Mesmer can use, yes, even torch xD and I will pick whatever fits the fight, for moving bosses ranged phantasms are the best so staff + sword/pistol win, but if you have a pretty static boss Focus all the way, also for clearing mobs Focus is great together with staff or GS… oh and never, NEVER summon your phantasms 1st, since they have this delay for the 1st attack you gotta distract the target 1st
I dont like Shatters, don’t ask me why, I just don’t like ’em.
so I run with an hybrid build using Staff + GS/Sword-Pistol/Sword-Focus and Knight Gear + necklace, with rampager trinkets, weapons and back slot
my build goes like this
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmmc0mMM0MMmxmMMmxmaf0pGcMmVca
and I think i do pretty good DPS between my direct damage and bleeds, also that toughness gives me the exact level of survivability i need
so there you have it, my build is not that “weird” but i dont know of other fellow mesmer using it xD so it qualifies as “unusual”
may I ask you, what weapons are you using?
first of all, i think you are not THAT good at this game yet, but you do want to get better which is great.
AC bosses are quite easy, but you gotta know them to succed, for example using staff vs Kholer will make your life so much easier!! got pulled? BAM! Chaos armor + Phase retreat = you are alive and got some boons and a clone up.
the last boss from path 3, has a little trick with the falling rocks, if you see that a rock fell, go stand there cause no rocks will fall in that same place for a while, so you can move from point to point and completelly avoid that attack, also allways stay behind the boss, ALWAYS
and that’s all! as for other dingeons you just gotta learn the mechanics, think fast, try to adapt to diferent situations and comunicate with your team!! that way you wont fail as much.
hmmm i don’t know what else i can tell you, oh! avoid glass cannon builds, they are not that good, the dps diference is NOT that big… what else…
well i think that’s it, in my experience I tend to be the last man standing when my team wipes, just keep going, you will eventually get the hang off the class, dont mind if you cross paths with kitten groups, getting into a guild is a nice way to avoid them
