this heal is terribad for PvE, haven’t tested it on PvP situations yet.

still, even if it pulled good results it doesn’t fit with the guardian theme, the new heal warriors got, is way more fitting for a guardian and encourages agressive gameplay… guess i’ll stick with Healing signet

I fully support this, but I can’t see it happening any time soon, have you seen how bad long-hair clips through your chest when swimming? I used to like long hair, but because of the clipping issues all my characters have now short hair… if Anet can’t fix the hair issue, they hardly can make decent cloaks

Why is this up again? There is nothing wrong with that armor set and asking for a change because of personal ideals of a single person is not an option. (Yes they are just your personal feelings, not the be all end all truth)

Ask for more armor, not changes to those already there.

still, after how Anet reacted to the flamekissed issue I bet that if enough people whine about it they will change the design

Norn are just giant dwarves imo. Although, it just isn’t the same…

I think dwarves tend to be more groupy and norn tend to be more individualistic.

Also dwarves are maybe a bit less “oafish?”

Also Norn women are hot, dwarven on the other hand…

has anyone noticed how bad ascended gear synergizes with GW2 build flexibility?

I for one will NOT craft ascended gear, not because I hate it but because it will make way too hard to change my build, can you even imagine how much money you will have to spend to swap from a power/crit to a condition bunker build?

and be aware, It will not only be a problem for those who like to swap builds a lot, It will also be a problem for those looking for the optimal build, cause a sudden change on traits might force you to swap your gear.

to sumarize, my point is: Exotic gear was fine enough, as it is now Ascended gear isn’t doing any good to the game, so dont get rid of ascended, but make it easier to get

what should be “hard to get”? skins, put some new armor/weapon skins to work towards in game, gemstore is fine, but do not forget you have a game to fill with stuff to do

Does swiftness stacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: korelg.7862

korelg.7862

Nope. Swiftness stacks in duration but not in speed. The highest swiftness speed will apply (the highest possible is 33%). So you would need something that grants 33% swiftness to get max speed, otherwise each application of swiftness is simply increasing the duration, which has a max of 20 seconds I think.

I think the OP means something like Traveler Runes +25% speed and swiftness +33% or mov. Signet +25% stack or not

I’m pretty sure they do not stack, the highest speed buff dominates though, so if you get swiftness it will overwrite the +25% untill is over

Like I said >.> Perhaps my wording wasn’t clear enough.
OP is asking if they can stack using runes and signets etc to reach up to 50% for example.
The answer is that 33% is the highest and you will only get 33% if you have something which grants it. You can’t stack lesser speeds up to 33. Swiftness does however stack in duration, up to a maximum of 20 seconds.

I think the max duration is 60 seconds, at least that’s the highest swiftness duration I’ve had

I love Guild Wars 2 but I must say that ArenaNet is going too far with the indecent armor. For example, look at the latest armor items in the gem store here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/sizzling-new-armors-in-the-gem-store/. They call it armor and yet it barely covers anything at all. (How does the armor in that second image even stay on?) You’ve made a good game and it will sell on its merits alone. There is no need to include digital sex to sell the game. At the rate the armor’s been shrinking, I suppose that the nipple will be exposed in one of the next few updates. Please ArenaNet, make the shift from nighties back to armor.

serously, there are plenty of non-skimpy armor in game, actually there is more non-skimpy than skimpy outfits, some people like skimpiness some don’t… if you think that skimpiness means sex then I don’t wanna see how you react to a trip to the beach

if you dont like something dont use it, but dont ruin it for people who like it

korelg you are not thinking straight…seriously.

Cultural Armor is supposed to be UNIQUE to each race, why even have them in the first place if that is not the case?

Also people working hard to get an armor vs. buying it off the gem store, can you not even see the problem in that? … :|

The trend it seems is that most (if not all) armor sets are direct gem shop purchases. This game is supposed to have cosmetic horizontal progression yet all the cool stuff is on the gem store. How the hell are we supposed to “progress” then? We are being force fed with this Living Story crap too…and don’t start on “play for fun” with me, I WvW for fun, so there’s that.

Honestly the direction ArenaNet is going is bad. Really bad. With other AAA MMOs on the horizon like Wildstar and EverQuest Next, I wonder how GW2 will survive…

well I never liked the race-lock to begin with, but you do raise a valid pont here, this game started with a very lacking gem store, but now it is getting way too much in comparisson to what we get in game, Anet has added ZERO new sets of in-game armor, only a couple of helmets and back pieces (extremely lame back pieces)

You guys are being quite childish here, If you have your cultural armor and you like it, be happy, you should not care if someone else is getting it for 1 silver a piece, good for them, I have my stuff, I enjoy it, that’s all that matters

Suppose you are in line to get coffee and your bill is $5 for a large. You pay and then the next guy pays $2.50 for the same large amount of coffee in a cup with a red lip. No rational human being is going to go “Welp, as long as I got my coffee I don’t care that he got the same thing at half the price for no reason.”

more like:

>I buy my coffee at 8am
>suddenly 12pm all coffee 50% off!
>oh man that totally devalues my morning coffee

you got your cultural armor 1st, and it was exclusive for a while and it still is to a certain degree, cause the difference between cultural and gem store is quite notorious

should there be a limit on what skins they should and shouldn’t re-use? of course!, but I think cultural armor is not hard enough to get to be so mad

but… why is that an “issue”?

>I got an item with a certain amount of effort and I enjoyed it
>new version of said item comes out cheaper

up till that point I see no problem whatsoever and I don’t wanna think that the problem is that now people can get this new version with less effort… i’d understand that for Legendary skins maybe, but cultural armor is really common and easy to get, also you know who got it the “hard” way and who got it from the gemstore just by looking at the weird fire effect

I just finished leveling a necro and it dawned on me. I grinded away to 80 It’s finally time to get get my gear, but I did everything. The maps entierly open. By 80 your build is pretty etched in stone.

Of course, I can’t get any temple armor because good luck getting one open durring a living story event. I would like to do get the temples for fun anyway. Let’s face it, Orr is a graveyard anyway. (no pun intended.)

Yes there’s living story, but that is dead in a week after release. Plus it further kills the other maps. Personal story? Once you don’t need the XP what is the point? Its usually an unrewarding pain.

are you seriously planning to play with that build forever? man you are missing on sooooo much! I keep swapping my build just for fun and to learn my class

Orr does need a revamp… still, if you check on one of those websites you can see where the temples are open and guest there, problem solved, also you can get exotic gear extremely easy from dungeons

oh the personal story, is such a nice concept, but it seriously needs more work, I liked it up until I had to go to orr, Living world is fine though, I’d like to see all these events effecting the personal story, that would be cool

well I’ve seen, in other games, these 3 kind of classes:

-Heavy with shield, much like the Guardian
-Heavy with masive 2h weapon a kind of bursty damage dealer, much like the Warrior weilding 2h weps
-Heavy dual wielding, sustained dps, lots of dodging, kind of a mix of warrior and thief but without the stealth mechanics

that 3rd option would be most likely the 3rd heavy, a class that relies on dodge with solid sustained dps

or completely going against the usual heavy theme and make it a heavy caster, closer to ele and mesmer

Too much emphasis on dodge rolling and not enough on healing. The dismal scaling of +HP speaks for it self.

Bad game remains bad and this game will never be an e-sport.

Dodge rolling is a nice skill check, while healing is more of a gear/build/teamcomp check, i like dodging better. PvE has nothing to do with eSports, why would you bring that up in this discussion?
Edit -

K, boon duration runes.
There are a couple boons that really get benefits from boon duration while in combat – Might, Protection, Fury and Vigor. – There are also boons that looks better with it, but that’s not actually how it goes – Regeneration, Stability, Swiftness and Aegis – And there’s retaliation, this thing is awful at pve. Here’s a brief explanation (maybe not so brief) of how much boon duration runes affect these boons and how to work around it just by doing smart choices on runes/traits.

  • Might – If you play with good players, or guildies/friends that are willing to listen to advice, this one is pretty much covered, all you need to do is drop the fire field, grab a banner and blast it, maybe blast it with your focus/hammer as well, everyone else will stack a bit and everything will melt. – If you pug then that’s a different story, fire fields are useful, sure, but you’ll be, more than likely, the only one blasting it. While using staff prior fights is a pretty good gimmick, the fact that you can’t change weapons midfight without losing almost all your dps while you wait nine seconds to swap it again is pretty bad, the best way to help your group with might stacks at any long fight while pugging is to use empowering might (5~6 static stacks), and boon duration doesn’t help here for two reasons, internal CD and short duration (each stack lasts for five seconds without boon duration, with 50% boon duration (assuming two superior water and monk runes, plus two major water and 10 points into virtues) it goes to a wooping 7.5sec, which means you got one extra might stack at the expense of 120Pwr, 84Prec, 12% critical damage (with ruby orbs) or 165Pwr, 8% critical damage and a 10% modifier (from scholars).
  • Protection – The best option here is to use hammer and lasting symbols, it will give almost 100% protection uptime while bringing good DPS. If you run hammer with boon duration runes instead of Writ of persistence you’re pretty much gimping yourself since the symbol applies only one second of protection per pulse and you’d be losing both damage and protection uptime, and if you do use writ, and still want to stick with boon duration, be aware that it is pretty much not improving your protection uptime.
  • Fury – You do not provide group-wide fury, and Save yourselves is pretty meh.
  • Vigor – Guardians only have one reliable source of vigor, and that’s honor 5. You’ll have vigor at all times even without any boon duration, as long you’re hitting something crit-able. So, again boon duration wouldn’t change a thing here.
  • Regeneration – Regen is pretty weak on PvE, its a nice bonus to have, and pretty useful to keep scholar runes up, but spamming regen is not a very effective way of supporting. Boon duration may enhance regen by a bit, but the boon itself isn’t very good.

well as I mainly run dungeons via LFG i’d say your analisys on might isn’t quite right

6~7 stacks of might mean 6 * 30(?) = 180 power/cond dmg ~ 7 * 30(?) = 210 power/cond dmg for EACH member of your party, so you get 180 * 5 = 900 ~ 210 * 5 = 1050… an average of 1k extra power/cond damage

to that add all the synergy you can get with sigils/food i usually run with a might on crit sigil and roasted artichoke (cause is so kitten cheap xD) so I get 2 stacks of might per crit average

I often use bane signet while bringing more to my group than someone rocking cleric’s gear, i dare you to call me selfish.
What you should expect from any guardian is: aegis (retreat is a must); WoR, SotA and purging flames (that you may or may not use from fight to fight); Stand your ground and hallowed ground (which you won’t be using on every fight as well) and sometimes hold the line, but i prefer to put bane if i have an extra open utility slot.

Take frost at CMp1 as an example, there’s no reason to bring stability or reflects on him (he barely uses his only reflectable skill – i’m sure it has to do with range, just like alpha’s tooths – and it is pretty easy to dodge anyways), therefore i can run something like Retreat+bane+purging while fighting him, i could even drop retreat, but that’s mostly to keep my unschated up on that fight. At CoE big bad golem you can use something like SoTA, retreat and WoR, or if you have a good mesmer/another guardian with you, WoR, retreat and bane, or WoR, retreat and SYG.
I could give more examples but the point is, everything here will be equally effective at protecting your group regardless of gear choice, and while boon duration sounds like a big deal, it ins’t. In fact, zerk gear makes your reflect damage skyrocket. It may not sound like a big deal, but if you’re unfamiliar with zerk damage, try killing the golem trio at SEp1 using only your reflects with defensive gear (soldier, clerics, shamans ew, etc) and then do it again with zerk, assassins or even valks/cavalier (make sure you’ve got perception or fury/spotter if you’re using valks/cav though, critical chance is kind of a big deal on reflects), you’ll notice a huge boost.

I agree on using clerics for PvE is bad, but going full glass canon on a defensive/suportive class is bad too, you can get solid dps while being way more supportive than a zerker with dps traits…

the thing is, focusing on a single role won’t do you any good on this game, the trick of this game is to be able to mix your gear and traits to get a balanced build, I think you guys are mistaking “optimal dps” for “optimal build”

just for the sake of puting some numbers on the table, my #1 Sword chain does about 1k+1k+2.5k = 4.5k average, more with 25 bloodlust and 25 might, what about you?

btw, my gear currently is a mix of Knight and Celestial with boon duration runes (+45%)

Hes referring to you actually listening to good advice. Many people turn a blind eye and refuse to accept that clerics or w/e is not as helpful to a team as dps. So basically you have restored the faith we have in humanity.

not quite, the best compo for any dungeon is 4 dps and a support-ish, why? well most bosses are killed via stack and smash, but if all 5 players are squishy and have no protection/healing it has high chances of failing, just think about CoF path 1 1st boss, CoE Subject alpha, SE path 3 last boss… you can argue that all those bosses can be survived by dodging, but lets be realists here, not much people, specially those that play glass canon, know the trick to survive dodging and you know, GW2’s philosophy is to avoid specialization, never play a full tank, healer or dps

maybe instead of going zerker you might want to go Valk and use a x/30/x/20/x trait build, your sword will put some serious dps and you will constantly stack might on your party while still being tanky, for trinkets you might like the Power/toughness/crit dmg combo or celestial, weapons i’d go with celestial/zerker combo for sword/focus and celestial for a hammer or GS

the rune selection is up to you, I like to use the boon duration runes 2x monk/water/traveler , but going for flat stat boosts works well too, it’s all up to your playstyle

I’d like to see a ranged mode axe option for guardians, focused on CC, something like

1st skill chain: 1st hits for X amount and cripples the target for 2 seconds, 2nd hits for X damage (and puts 3sec torment… one can dream), 3 hits for 2X amount and roots the target IF it has cripple on it

2nd skill: hits for Y amount and cripples the target for 3sec, if target is already crippled it also roots it for 1sec and hits for twice the damage

3rd skill: 1st activation: you throw your axe to the target deals Z amount of damage per second (10sec) 2nd activation: pull yourself to the target location (kind of a reversed GS #5 and single target)
