OP, I’m a pretty casual player and I have no problems at all to get the gold/mats i need without buying gems, the only time i converted gems to gold was on halloween when there was a huge spike on the conversion rate and i just couldn’t resist xD but thats it, so stop complaining and try enjoying the game for a bit… getting shinys isn’t everything, if you keep playing and enjoying the game you will eventually get those shinys
as far as i know it’s working as intended
i secretly wish our Sword 1 moves were like the Ranger’s Sword 1, those moves somehow resemble Fencing moves which also fits more with the stylish aura we have
i think the sword 3 clone hates me, it never spawns when needed
^what they said.
Staff gives you Chaos Armor, and a way out of troubles in case you need, also staff clones stack vulnerability, your sword attacks will love that.
My mesmer. Really hard to find something that makes her looks like she could actually fight. Everyone seems to like the bikinis, though. lol
what about this? looks pretty fighter-ish to me, your set looks pretty awesome too, the 1st one looks more warrior-ish though, that’s the Vigil skirt right?
i don’t understand you OP, why the need of getting more and more gold? i can get the gold i need runing dungeons once in a while, and doing some random events I haven’t been to orr since before halloween, did the orr zerg farm a couple of times, but it wasn’t really profitable…
also if gold becomes too easy to obtain, prices will go up and this game’s economy will be just like wow’s… believe me, you don’t want that…
hmmm maybe, just maybe, when you pick illusionary persona, the shatter effect comes from you too, so next time you test this, stand near your exploding clones… being outside of the AoE might be the problem
maybe the AC and CM sets suit your taste, bud go and take a look a those vendors, also Masquerade set looks quite “classy”
well i play an hybrid mesmer, i have knight gear and rampager trinkets and weapons, iDuellist rocks putting bleeds on AoE heavy bosses, but if the boss isnt like that you can use focus instead for extra giggles crazy damage + tons of bleeds, just make sure to take the bleed on crit trait xD
i’d say go full Knight gear, with a phantasm focused build using GS and Sword/Pistol also you can pick Staff instead of GS, with iDuellist you get tons of bleeds and considerable direct damage, while Staff + toughness from gear gives you enough survivability, also Staff’s phantasm is quite strong
hmmm there is this armor skin in the gem store that you might like, for anything else you might want to take a look here:
oh i was thinking in a PvE scenario btw, for PvP there is another whole story…
i think you guys didn’t quite get op’s idea, confusion making foes hurt themselves (like in pokemon, you attack but the attack hurts you instead of me HA!) sound quite interesting, imagine those glass cannon warriors or thieves, oh those tears would be so delicious!!! xD
in that kind of setup, stacking for duration makes sense.
and what about instead of using staff to get bleed, use GS with the sigil that gives 60% chance to bleed on crit?
lets look at the numbers:
Staff has a chance to aply bleed, burn or weakness(?) thats a 33% chance to bleed per hit
now with a 50% crit chance plus that sigil you get an average of 30% chance to bleed on hit but each GS attack hits 3 times and is considerably faster than the Staff
so in the end you should get about 3 times more bleed procs from the GS, am I right?
bank tabs? meh, i want some good skins and character modification services… i just dont get it!! how come a micro-transaction based game lacks so much on the store
i think you might be pressing other buttons before you land the null field, look if you press the null field button and before you click the ground target, you go and press another button, the target will disapear… not sure if this is what happens to you.
hmmm… make Fractals reset monthly, problem solved!
dude! this sounds really cool, i’m from sorrow’s furnace, so i’ll wait for the gusting thing and will gladly join!!
I read somewhere that confusion is halved in non-WvW PVP – is that true? That was one obstacle I was looking at when testing the interesting glamour/Confusion build I watched .
i dont really know, but that would be so lame :/
ok once an for all, illusions work in a FIFO system, with priority for clones
1.- if you have 3 phantasms out and you summon another phantasm it will replace the oldest
2.- if you have 3 phantasms out and you summon a clone it will replace the oldest
3.- if you have 2 phantasms and 1 clone out and you summon a phantasm it will replace the clone
4.- if you have 2 phantasms and a clone and you summon a clone, it will replace the clone
5.- if you have 2 or more clones out and you summon a phantasm it will replace a clone, and will continue to do so untill you have no more clones, then refer to N°1
the only thing i agree with op is the LoS issue, i’m sorry but i find stupid the need of LoS for illusions, illusions are not like any other attack cause it works also like a summon skill, and their attack is also subject to LoS, dodges, blinds, etc… so our damage is being negated twice, once when summoning and then when our illusion attacks… so yeah, illusions should at least be free of LoS, and also dodge, kitten!! how the kitten can you dodge a friggin illusion?!?!
my advice would be, go test as many builds you want in sPvP, you can change your gear and traits there for free and as many times as you need, people might tell you what you should do, but all comes down to what fits your style the most, so get back to playing, get used to the class again and i’m sure you will find a good and fun build to play with.
im running an hybrid phantasm/condition focused build, using a staff and a GS or sword/pistol depending on the situation
my gear is mainly knight (power/prec/tough) and Carrion (or was it rampager?) jewellry and weapons (power/prec/cond) also 6 undead runes
traits focused on boosting phantasm damage and CD reduction
1st skill (3 part chain): 1st a simple damaging projectile, 2nd a projectile that hits slightly harder and aplies 1 stack of confusion, 3rd a GS-like beam that hits 3 times and hits harder the closer you are to the target, also aplies 1 stack of confusion
2nd skill (AoE) Illusionary Bullet : a huge illusionary bullet super mario-style falls from the sky, hits for some damage and aplies weakness, cripple or burn randomly
3rd skill (clone summoning) : an attack that fires 1 illusionary bullet, makes you invisible for 1 1/2 seconds and summons a clone in front of you, the clone does the 1st 2 parts of the basic chain.
what do you guys think?
well subject alpha is quite anoying, especially if you play a phantasm-focused build
Am I the only one that feels like is hitting harder now? i’ve been seeing some bigger numbers from my iBerserker
This is my mesmer. Would love some leather pants.
Anyone know what top this is?
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/18898/gw186x.jpg
That’s the chest from the CoE set
I like the boost of the sigil of rage(?) the one that grants you quickness
well i think it’s a mater of taste here, i really like the phantasm focused gameplay…
also when fighting mobs you have to get your hands dirty, what i do is:
mirror blade> iBerserker> mind stab> swap to sword/pistol (at this point clone from MB is probably dead)> iDuelist> clone/swap> and proceed to do some melee damage
most orr mobs die at the end of that chain, if not, swap to GS and start over, Legion shines the most in dungeons, in most boss fights is quite easy to get your 3 iDuelists up
also for killing mobs iWarden makes wonders
take a look at the “Legion” build, I find it pretty good and gives you complete freedom on choosing utility skills
well if you just wanna go and farm in orr, better roll warrior… but for everything else we are good
okay, i saw this ( https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear ) and now I feel like I can relax…
also if you guys are worried of the elitists pugs, get a guild and do dungeons with people you know
This isn’t a grind. This is the risk/reward this game is missing. Bring us more depth. I know some of you enjoy standing around in LA with you entitlement exotic gear though.
i’ve never stayed idle in LA more than 20~30min, and that’s usually when i have to go afk, everytime i get in the game i have something to do, i keep doing dungeons to get some cosmetics, gotta get the HotW shoes, maybe the SF shoulders, the CoE chest, also still have about 40% of the map to explore… i dont need or want any more grindy stuff, legendarys are enough… seriously.
@Azarul: well i don’t think there is any player here who wouldn’t go for the ascended gear, even if its a pain, if you put something better, everyone wants it… but it gets tiring, so instead of people not going for that gear, they will just leave, i left WoW because the eternal grind and those kitten anoying dailies became just like a freaking job… I only hope GW2 doesn’t go in that direction, i really hope this ascended gear is the 1st and last stat upgrade introduced

Going for the Archangel look:
what armor is that?
as far as i can see
Helm: CoF
Shoulders: Arah
Chest: TA
Legs: CoF
mesmer never gets better, cause it already is THE best class since lvl 1. period.
are you sure? my zerker always crits at least once, i have ~50% crit myself, plus the talent that gives fury to phantasms thats a sweet 70% crit rate, now, the fury talent only works properly on iDuelist, but still having 50% crit chance is quite good, in boss fights iBerserker is used at the begining and to kill adds, i usually end up with 3 iDuelists and shooting lazors with my GS or doing some melee with sword
also if you could see how many ticks per second my bleeds do, with 3 iDuelists bleed ticks for about 90 dmg easily 3 times per second or even more that’s at least 270 dmg per secondand bleeds least for 10 seconds? im not sure even if it were 5 seconds you get 270dmg/sec * 5sec= 1140dmg every 5 sec, not so bad right?
PD: this is all strictly for PvE, dont ask me about PvP cause im not that into it
A lot of NPC’s use legacy version versions of spells that are essentially how they behaved in beta.
In early beta, clones used to do damage; which incidentlly is why mesmer’s have the rather redundant trait “illusions do 15% damage” in addition to “phantasms do 15% damage”, even though clones do no damage and therefore giving them a trait that boosts their damage is pointless
all clones should do some damage, i’d say 50% of the mesmer’s damage would be fair, or even dont do direct damage, just aply confusion thats what clones are for after all, they are there to confuse the enemy right?…
i dont undertand why this skill is said to be bugged, i mean we are not sending some kind of projectile, we are using some kind of magic to create these illusions, so as long as we are in range we dont actually need to see the target, i think all the illusions should work like iBerserker, I find it quite ridiculous to fail my iDuelist cast because the target got behind me is just… stupid
also phantasms aren’t even that strong by themselves, you can destroy them just getting away, dont even need to spend your precious CDs…
I second this, scepter is just too lame for such an amazing profession
Why do you want to summon two clones in that if your intention is to build phantasms.
Clones you usually want to break and phantasms do more damage so you don’t want to break them until they have at least used one cycle or were summoned in a bad spot and the enemy has moved. I could see you freeing that slot for the 2 dazes from a mantra.I think the signet is poo for their health if that’s why you put it on.
If you are going 20 into inspiration you could take restorative mantras instead of phantasms having more health and get more out of it by just changing your main heal to a mantra heal, you would be able to heal your pets, self, and players around you for more than the 20% health that thing gives about every 10 seconds.
When I think of a phantasm build I wonder if you want them to tank or yourself. That can change the way you would build. By saying phantasm based I have to guess that you want them for their damage.
2 clones? why would i summon 2 clones? hmm maybe the calculator showed something that it shouldn’t
i picked 3 signets, Inspiration, Domination and Illusions, and i buff my illusion’s health because my dps depends on having them up as much as i can, i picked the cd reduction for those fight when the boss keeps killing my phantasms
also my build is kinda hybrid, i mainly stack power/crit, but also want some condition, cause those bleeds from the phantasms crits add quite a bit of damage… so thats it, also this build is strictly for PvE, never used it on PvP but i think that it would be ok on WvW, but might want to change the utility skills
My post was for the OP, not yours
When I started posting there weren’t any other posts.
oh well xD
Don’t quote me on this, but I read somewhere Empowering Illusions doesn’t stack with Phantasmal Strength. You might wanna test that out in Heart of the Mists
that would be extremely lame, seriously…
but i do have a question is this still a viable build or would going illussions/shatters be better?
for PvE, as far as i know it is indeed viable and quite good, the problem is, though, some bosses aoe gets kinda anoying, but as long as you can keep phantasms up you will hit about 2~3k per phantasm hit and phantasms’ attack cd is about 5 seconds i think and while doing that you can freely move around doing damage or killing adds or whatever
also i went Norn cause they are awesome xD picked the most apealing race and profession

gimme a second, i’ll show you my build
EDIT: here it is, for the gear I like the Knight set, with power/condition/precision accesories

go and take a look at the “Show us your mesmer” post, there some really nice outfits there
i think that the “floaty” issue is related to the various sizes of characters we have, my main is a mid height Norn and i never felt that “floatyness” BUT! my human guardian wich is a short height does feel like that, i think that some small touches to the animations should fix that
the rest, I just can’t agree with you, i love the art style and i think the characters fit perfectly, never felt the 2D-ness.
i’d say, save some… new karma vendors might come up as the game grows
