Necromancers in general were pretty funny during Escape from LA. “I am Death, and I am here to save you!”

At least they’re humane. They want the terminally ill to die with dignity.

Ah yes, animations! Male or female, sylvari got the best /dance of all. One that looks like something they’d actually do. It may be a pop culture reference but it’s not a fad dance.

I am so tired of cutesy modern dances shoehorned into worlds where they don’t fit ><

I love the dance! It’s called the Bhangra dance, and it’s a traditional folk dance from the Punjabi people of India. It reinforces my Engie Sylvari’s nerdy nature and personality.

You can read more about the dance here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhangra_

Thank you all for your comments. You have convinced me to choose Sylvari. After spending a few hours with this race I fell in love.
Sylvari are so openminded. They seems to be so carefree but in fact they face many problems.

I love Sylvari personal strory. Brew it is one of the most polished. I love their voice. The accent is wonderful. It’s a huge relief after playing female norn with her deep voice. I really like the fact that the Sylvari storyline make me feel appreciation by other characters. Throughout its history, I overcame Bercilak and felt my victory during the dialogues with the characters.

I really like the Sylvari sexuality. They have no problem with that if they love a man or a woman. It is rarely seen in RPGs. Remind me Asari from Mass Effect.
.

AH! So you did pick Sylvari!

TWO THUMBS UP for the sexuality comment. That’s the best part of playing a salad.

Welcome to our leafy family!

Hi.

Im heavily wonder about the choice of breed for a new character. The choice is between a Human and Sylvari. Please try to convince me to choose Sylvari. Why these race is better choice than Human?

Here’s my answer: Storyline & NPCs

The Sylvari are the focus of the main GW2 storyline. You can’t get the entire story without playing at least 1 salad. The Nightmare court are much better baddies than the centaurs and White Mantle combined. Plus, the human storyline is just a bland copy of the Sylvari storyline.

Caithe and Trahearne are a zillion times better than Logan. I played the human PS up to level 10, but I was forced to quit because the NPCs were too bland. Logan is too Mary Sue goody-goody two shoes and his story is about protecting the Queen. His story doesn’t go anywhere. He has no flaws, neurosis, or obsessions to make him interesting.

Caithe is will be the first NPC your sylvari character will encounter. She not only tries to get the original Destiny’s Edge back together, but there is possibility that she may be leaning towards Nightmare. And did I mention that she loves the leader of the Nightmare Court? She also opens up more if your Sylvari is from Cycle of Night or Cycle of Dusk.

Trahearne is better understood if you play the Sylvari PS. Yes, he’s still a bit of a snarky j___ a__ who steals others glory. Keep in mind that his attitude towards a character changes depending on what order you choose:

Trahearne hates the Vigil (I’ve seen other players’ vigil characters being treated very poorly by this guy.)

He’s suspicious of the Order of Whispers. (My main Sylvari —a member of the Whispers-- was treated as dirt by this guy. BTW— Did you know that the Order is trying to keep tabs on this guy? I found this out by having my main talk to Gardener Oraiste outside the entrance to the House of Aife. My main character has a noble personality.)

He loves the Piory. (He’s all sweety-sweety with my second character — a female ranger who has a charming / captivating personality. I was surprised when I first saw this. )

IF you do decide to create a sylvari character, the best storyline is the White Stag story, and pick the philosophy “Where Life Goes so too should you”. The philosophy will help you get access to the Malyck storyline which may be the focus of future Living Story updates. You’ll find out why when you play the story.

I’ve actually been working on a fan fic idea about my main, a sylvari thief name Renee, who has a crush on Caithe. One of the important moments is centered on that particular phase.

Renee sat outside in the dark night looking at Caithe through a window. She had dreamed of Caithe and knew of her darkness. She could see Caithe, but wondered if Caithe would see her. It was Caithe herself who had said, “You are either firstborn, or you are Sylvari.”

The fact that Faolain is also a firstborn only makes the moment more dramatic.

I knew my Sylvari wasn’t the only PC who has ever had a crush on Caithe.

The only problem is that my Dusk bloom Sylvari is a dude, so when he found out that his crush was a lesbian, the relationship just stayed at puppy-love status.

Oddly enough, he did get this really intimate letter from Caithe. Take a look at the attached screenshot and read the letter very, very carefully. The first three sentences in this letter sound an awful lot like a secret love letter.

BTW, are you planning to post your fanfic on Fanfiction.net? I would love to read it!

You’ve all seen what the sylvari did to Lion’s Arch. All sylvari should be hunted down and handed over to the charr to be used as firewood at meatoberfest. No sylvari can be trusted. The Pale Tree must be destroyed!

You do realize that species or cultures who are threatened with genocide tend to multiply? Right???

Take coyotes. Where I live, regular coyote hunts isn’t allowed because it causes the female coyotes to produce more pups.

In the case of Sylvari: If you kill or persecute the salad people, then they will take root and multiply. Their bodies will eventually adapt and evolve, and they will become a stronger force than the humans, norn, and charr put together. Scarlet Briar was proof that there are geniuses in their group, and they will eventually rival the Asura anyways.

There are even recorded cases on the Tarnished Coast of Sylvari having intimate relations with members of the other races (esp. the Asura ). Earlier this year, a bunch of Asura got caught getting it on with their leafy friends. It’s been the talk in Rata Sum since the beginning of the year.

Knowing the Asura, I wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with a way make half plant / half Asura progeny. We did fight a sylvari / krait hybrid in the Nightmare Tower, so it’s not as far fetched as it sounds.

I chuckled though when Trahearne got shocked to see undead quaggans.

I agree! More quaggans means more laughs, more fun, more mini-games (like the Quaggan guild rush in Frostgorge Sound)…

Depends on the destination and the ended desire.

Do you want more wvwvw participation? More population over all? Specific content like Wurms/Tequatl?

You will have to do research to see if it’s feasible and which server has what you are looking for specifically.

On a selfish side note: Come to Dragonbrand. We have cookies.

And check out Tarnished Coast server while you’re at it. It’s a busy server that has people doing the LS and world events (like Teq and Wurm).

And we’re awesome at kicking b___ in WvW!

Anyway, here she is in all her Necromantic beauty. Feel free to share your beautiful characters be they Charr, Asura, Human, Sylvari or Norn.

Wow! Congratulations on making a really good black character! This game really needs characters like her! Now here’s my main character…

Simplifying the Sylvari *Potential Spoilers*

in Living World

kta.6502

I think we are overlooking the X Race V X Dragon thing, remember:

The Durmond Priory makes a note of how there were 6 dragons and only 5 races, so that means that evidently, they were overwhelmed, there was no specific role.

The Sylvari are tied to Mordremoth, most likely like the Sidhe (An unused race in Gw who id love to see appear somehow) are to Druids.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Sidhe

The most likely explanation of the Sylvari is that they are the descendants of the Druids, a race of now forgotten Humans in Gw mythology, considering they look physically like human, with plant like growths, and adapt their teachings from Ventari’s Tablet.

They also have the ability to summon a druid spirit as a racial, further strengthening the high probability the Sylvari are essentially “modeled” off the Human Race, but obviously have very obvious genetic differences.

Their relation to Mordremoth however was blatantly implied from day one, their “immunity” to the corruption of dragons could be no coincidence, not to mention Sylvari structures ability to terraform the land passively, isn’t so different from the way Dragon Corruption works.

The only question now is that with Mordremoths awakening, will the Sylvari remain dormant, or over time will the same thing that happened to Scarlet extend to other Sylvari, thus confirming they are little more than slaves to the Dragon’s will.

Then again, Glint defied her master, it isn’t impossible for other dragons or minions of dragons to do the same, evidenced by this.

It is also possible that the Sylvari have a connection to Ewan’s Tribe, who were punished by Melandru and forced to become her servants (see http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ewan). It’s possible that the Pale Tree’s mission was given to her by the Goddess of Nature, and she has yet to reveal that in the game. The Dream of Dreams may be Melandru under another name.

I, for one, don’t believe that the GW2 deities left. They just leave the other races alone because those mortals have the abilities to solve the problems in Tyria. Sylvari, on the other hand, are the babies in the GW family, so they get extra special attention.

This final Sylvari themed story should focus entirely on Sylvari character development and I emphasis “Character” not race.

This means:
Canach, Caithe, Faolain, Malyck, Treaherne, (Possibly a return to Sieren).

I would focus heavily on these guys being the main people that need major char development in this arc.

Also, maybe a small nod to Scarlet post her death with a bit of exposition back story about what Scarlet knew about Caithe and how she found out.

Is it favoritism? Yes, Is it needed, yes.

I agree with this. The Sylvari NPCs need much more development because of where the PS left off. I want to find out Caithe’s secret, and I also want an opportunity to get back at Trehearne for treating my main character (lv. 80 Sylvari Fire / Condition Damage Engie) as dirt during the PS. I want to know if Malyck found his family. Hopefully, we’ll see Canach start a new life.

so much sylvari favoritism

This main protagonist – the guy who saves us all from Zhaitan – is a sylvari. The main antagonist – the biggest threat since Abadon – is a sylvari. The first elder dragon added to the game since launch looks to be tied to the sylvari. The sylvari starting zone has as many jumping puzzles as all other starting zones combined. And before Lion’s Arch fell, the sylvari portal stood higher than the rest. Can you tell the devs really like the sylvari?

First off, the Salad people are the driving force behind the game’s main storyline. Without them, there would be no GW2. The plants did appear when the dragons started waking up. The Dragons and Sylvari are connected in some way. This connection is a mysterious one that is worth exploring.

Plus the NPCs for this group are more complex. They’ve got strengths, flaws, and obsessions. Take Caithe for example: She is obsessed with re-establishing Destiny’s Edge, her friends and posse. There is her romantic struggles with Faolain. There are suggestions in the PS that she is leaning towards Nightmare despite her assertion that she is a Dreamer. It possible that Caithe’s secret is that she has already joined Nightmare. If a sylvari PC is dusk or night cycle, Caithe opens up more and tries to establish a closer relationship.

It’s also possible that the devs are bored by the storylines for the other races.

For example, humans in this game aren’t as amazing as in GW1, and that goes double for Logan, whose great-great-granny was an awesome, unique, spicy character to have on the Heroes team. Logan himself is too bland and follows the rules too much. There isn’t anything interesting about a guy who lives like an asexual monk and serves the Queen as if she is a goddess. He’s too straight-laced. Plus, he lacks serious flaws and neuroses that make any character interesting. Gwen, Logan’s ancestor, had those flaws and neuroses thanks to her experience during the Searing. Because of this guy I couldn’t get past level 10 in the human storyline. Plus the human storyline is too similar to the Sylvari PS anyways.

The Asuras in this game are in a similar conundrum. I loved the Asura in Eye of the North, partly because of their more attractive design and partly because of their unique personalities. The Asuras in this game come across as cruel and arrogant like Zoija and Omadd. See Scarlet Briar’s story, What Scarlet Saw, if you don’t believe me. Even Asura RPers refuse to break this mold in free form RP. There is very little variation in personality between all the little guys. I was forced to stop playing Asura because of the attitude from the NPCs and RPers.

In Eye of the North, there were compassionate Asura like Vekk and unethical little buggers like Gadd (aka Vekk’s father and the inspiration for Inquest). Vekk was annoying in the beginning by calling the PC a bookah, but the fact that he sticks around the hero despite his personal bias said that there was more to him than what the player initally saw. Then there was Oola, a paranoid Asura who was obsessed with her golems esp. security golems.

kta.6502

I’m all for equality. Neither type of relationship should receive prominence over the other. That being said we have gender considerations to make to. Female x Female relationships are not the same as Male x Male relationships – of which there is only really one in the game. I think most of the issues facing the lack, or percieved lack, of hetero relationships in game comes from the way Jory and Kasmeer’s relationship has been handled. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both – but their relationship has ended up eclipsing the plot somewhat and drawing away from actual story developing.

ADD TO THAT FACT: Marjory x Kasmeer pairing is going way too fast. From my point of view, the two characters just met and now they have a sexual relationship??? That’s what we adults call a CASUAL SEX RELATIONSHIP or “Friends with Benefits”. I think all of us romantic types (hetero & LGBT) can agree that it’s a relationship that’s built on lust instead of love. Sorry, Anet: That’s not romance. Where’s the healthy relationship that’s supposed to spawn between the two? There hasn’t been any meaningful buildup since October 2013.

I swear, Majory is taking advantage of Kasmeer’s compassion and terrible plight for some quick hanky-spanky. (<—-That’s not a mis-spelled term. I typed it on purpose.) Plus during one of the updates, Majory tells Kasmeer that she will never let Kasmeer go. The way she said it made her sound like a possessive and controlling domestic violence abuser. That’s a sign that the relationship isn’t healthy at all.

Anet, if you need some ideas on writing a romance story, look up The Busy’s Writer’s Tips on Writing Romance (http://www.amazon.com/Busy-Writers-Tips-Writing-Romance-ebook/dp/B009HUQ8KK)

BTW, I agree with the original poster: We do need more hetero NPC relationships in this game.

Scarlet was an Asura-phile. It would make sense for her to have a connection to the old lab. She saw herself as an Asura instead of Sylvari. That’s very apparent in the final battle when we have to fight the colored holograms: Dynamic, Static, and Synergetic.

I know why she divorced her culture. I play 2 Sylvari characters, and Sylvari society has given me the impression that they don’t approve of intellectuals that venture outside the “natural” realm (esp mechanics). If a Sylvari is like Kahedins and integrates plants into their designs, that’s a-okay. But God help the poor salad who thinks outside of the garden box.

It is actually not really clear what we have seen.

We saw the Ley lines explode, breaking through the surface (why, i dont know. just because they were pierced by the drill? this certainly needs more elaboration…. oh wait.. Scarlet did it) in different directions…

The last pictures were indeed not the Maguuma jungle but more likely Orr, going into the ocean and maybe under the ocean floor.

We then see some teeth, resembling thorns at first, but quickly turning blueish green, oceanic.

So in the end it is not actually confirmed which dragon it is. It could be Mordremoth, but Bubbles is not outside the possibilities.

How could you interpret that as water?

It’s 100% Mordremoth

Here are the facts:
-The leylines travelled west through Kryta
-Then travelled further west/southwest past the Reactor
-Butterflies are flying around in the ‘green’ scene (the small bubbles are sparkflies)
-You see rotting fauna/trees

AND the only place in all of Tyria with rotting fauna and trees is TWILIGHT ARBOR which is in CALEDON FOREST. That’s the Nightmare Court headquarters.

Now we now know what the courtiers have been worshiping in that location all this time. Be ready to see new content involving Faolain and her crew!

I agree. I think Omadd was Inquest, and he recreated Snaff’s dragon-merging experiment. It’s no secret that many of Inquest’s studies are related to dragon corruption and energy. They’ve been trying to harness that energy for some time now.

Does this make sense to you? I’m not defying any theories out there cuz I’m not a hardcore gw lore follower so I might be missing something. But seeing a lot of people saying she’s corrupted doesn’t make sense to me. I mean she’s “corrupted” in a way, but more like “saw the truth and couldn’t accept it”. Thoughts?

I think the so-called “corruption” marks we see on her body in the last cutscene are related to the final fight (Scarlet vs. the PC heroes). We do know that it was our characters who injured her, and she was dying in the last cutscene. Our PCs performed a mercy killing instead of taking her to jail.

^ This is rubbish, most of the escort events can be (and often are by myself) solo’d. It’s simply a matter of not being a mindless drone spamming your skill 1 and actually using your pulls/CC/reflects to suit the scenario.
Again zerging these events means upscaled enemies, that can hit a lot harder, and therefore kill your doylaks/ogres/moas etc a lot quicker.

Which Server are you on? What class are you playing for this event? I tried soloing the dolyaks, Moas, & Lighthouse workers with my level 80 engie, and it couldn’t be done. I had a little better luck with my level 60 ranger, but she would go down before the event could finish. Children and Ogre were the only two I could do by myself.

It could be that the escort events got upscaled because I’m on a more crowded server.

*I guess I’m part of the “I don’t mind event scaling” crowd. I actually liked the idea of event scaling ever since I fought Viscount of Candy Corn in the Mad King’s Maze last October. I was part of a 60 man zerg, and it was very challenging to fight an enemy that became more powerful when more players joined the fight. Plus, the fight was epic, and it was cool to have everyone working together to take down a massively powerful enemy.

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like easy games. If I can finish the meta within less than a week, I start worrying if the devs know how to properly program a video game. That’s what happened with Marionette. There are alot of relentless semi-hardcore and hardcore players on the Tarnished Coast server who were able to defeat Marionette within a few hours of being released. Nightmare Tower was pretty much the same thing. I was able to solo the entire tower (both the levels and the chambers) with my level 80 fire / condition damage engie (who wears exotic gear btw) without problems. I remember surprising alot of my fellow guildies during that time. I’ve mastered the art of timing, dodging, and rolling that is necessary for playing an engie character. (FYI: I tried other classes, but the others involve just spamming buttons 1 & 2 which gets boring after awhile. I’m the type who will stick with being an engie because of the challenge.)

For players who have fully-mastered level 80 characters in ascended gear (armor, weapons, trinkets), the game shouldn’t be easy.

With the Escape from Lion’s Arch event, there have been rescuers who would trail the small Bag Trains I led. Those rescuers took on the role of battlefield medics, and they would rez and escort citizens while the Bag Train was doing their stuff in the west side of town. I think clearing the area made it easier for the rescuers, heirloom hunters, and others to travel. Plus, the citizens were respawning every few minutes so it became necessary to keep clearing the paths so they could get to safety. The most bags I’ve gotten on my Bag Train has been about 60 bags per run.

One last thing: People often drop out of an event by the time the next update is ready. Most of the time these gamers have their meta achievements, or they get bored with the event. That’s why you’re seeing a drop in rescuers. Right now, the only ones who are doing the LA event are the farmers and those who haven’t finished their achievements.

Here is the definition for Miasma: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miasma_theory

FYI: In the ancient world, Miasma was thought be stinky air (usually swamp air) that caused disease. People once believed that the Bubonic Plague was caused by polluted air.

For this game’s storyline, plague and miasma are one and the same thing.

Since we know Scarlet is skilled in alchemy, that means she is a condition damage engineer. I think the miasma is a longer lasting, more powerful variation of this particular elixir.

I’m tired of hearing the anti-farming / anti-zerg rants esp. when the complaints have to do with the Escape from Lion’s Arch update. I can understand the complaints when it comes to Queensdale, but the complaints about LS farm / zerg doesn’t make sense.

First off, alot of farmers are doing folks favors by eliminating swarms of enemies in Lion’s Arch. Those enemies kill citizens. If a citizen doesn’t make it to the Whispers Agent, then they won’t count towards the final quota. If we don’t make the 1200 “citizens saved” quota, then we don’t get the big reward for the run. There have been alot of civillians on the west side of town that are constantly ignored because there are too many large swarms. It gets worse when the Miasma event shows up.

On the Tarnished Coast Server, I often had to pop my command tag (despite complaints) to try to create a zerg just get through the western part of town to chop down baddies, rez the civillians, and escort folks to the Whispers Agents.

In the center of town, farmers focus on protecting dolyaks which are attacked by huge swarms of Aetherblades (esp. thumpers and mesmers). In the east part of town, if people don’t destroy the Toxic Alliance by the Moa Ranch, the birds are killed by the krait and the Nightmare Court.

There are just some parts of this game that cannot be soloed. Some areas require large groups of heroes to defeat the opposing NPC army.

Plus some people are farming materials for the ascended Spinal Blades backpiece. That item requires alot of Blade Shards that can’t be bought via the trading post. Farming is the only way to get this limited edition material.

Toxic community or just my server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kta.6502

Is it just my server (far shiverpeaks) or is the community of GW2 generally toxic?

It seems that returning from a break from gw2 no one is willing to help each other; they rather just “troll” or flame in chat.

Simple requests like asking where a champion train is, asking for help on an event, asking how to do a dungeon boss – strangely seems to provoke the most vile reactions.

Rant over – worth changing servers or is GW2 just like this now?

Yes. If people are just going to troll you on your home server, it’s time to look for a new one. Try guesting on one of the tier one servers like Blackgate, Jade Quarry, and Tarnished Coast. There are more people and a higher chance of finding lots of help.

What will Scarlet find beneath LA?

[Speculation thread begin! 5 days left!]

_What do YOU think is beneath Lion’s Arch?

A resource that Scarlet needs to destroy the Pale Tree: the magic inside the ley lines. According to the wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic), the Elder Dragons love to snack on magic, and Scarlet hope that opening the leyline will bring out the dragon that is haunting her mind. Which dragon am I refering to? The plant dragon, Mordremoth.

Remember that Sylvari can’t be corrupted by other types of dragons. They’ll just die, but a plant dragon might corrupt them (or at least turn them into aggressive beings).

Who is Mordremoth? And what does he/she look like? I play 2 Sylvari characters, and there is evidence that the Pale Tree is the dragon Mordremoth with a human-like avatar. Let’s review the evidence:

1) The number one piece of evidence is the plant dragon in Ogham Wilds that is too close to Mama Tree’s root system (see the first 3 attached pictures below). You can only see the “plant dragon” if you play a Sylvari character and visit Ogham Wilds (outside the Grove’s enterance) during the early levels. And yes, this is the same dragon the Sylvari PC defeats in the Dream at the beginning of the Sylvari PS.

2) Did you know that the Pale Tree has 4 Champions? Hm… I wonder why. The champions, also known as the Luminaries, are both the early mentor to the Sylvari PC as well as the guardians of the Pale Tree. The Luminaries are Aife, Niamh, Kahedins, and Malomedies. If the Pale Tree was a former champion of dragon, then why does she have 4 champions to protect her? Not even Tequatl or Shatterer has this much protection and they’re champions of their respective elder dragons. From what I’ve seen in this game so far, only Elder Dragons have champions protecting them.

3) Similar to Primordius in Guild Wars: Eye of the North, the Pale Tree assigns each Sylvari a role whether they like it or not. This is confirmed in both the PS story step “A LIght in the Darkness” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/A_Light_in_the_Darkness) as well as in the story “What Scarlet Saw” (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/short-story-what-scarlet-saw/). We do know that the Pale Tree forced Trahearne (her oldest son and favorite child) into the role of a general even though he is just a scholar when we meet him. Plus, the Sylvari PC was relegated to being Trahearne’s servant for the rest of the PS, thanks to Mama Tree’s decision.

4) Did you know that Aife teaches her students, the sylvari of the Cycle of Dawn, some pretty militant ideas? My second character, Lazuli, actually said these words to Gardener Oraiste during a meeting in the Grove: “The cycle of dawn will usher in a new age.” I’ve read those words many times in fiction when it involves an underground world-wide, world-changing movement (like the mythical New World Order). We know that the Cycle of Dawn sylvari love to use communication to get what they want, so it’s possible that Aife is the one who advised the Pale Tree to appear as if she is a friend to every race in Tyria. That’s why the Pale Tree insists that the Sylvari PC be a representative of her when outside the Grove. See pictures 4 & 5 below.

Until I see evidence to the contrary, I think the Pale Tree is the one who is destroying Scarlet’s mind because she knows too much. Remember that the Asura said that nothing from the outside could penetrate the Isolation Chamber that Scarlet was placed into, and we know that Scarlet did speak to the Pale Tree while inside the chamber. Plus, the Pale Tree did tell Scarlet to quit looking for life’s mysteries.

The Pale Tree may not be Tyria’s friend as she portrays herself to be.

Is Evon plotting an uprising?

in Living World

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

So I’ve noticed a lot of anti-government behavior from Evon. Now more then ever. We all know him and Kiel don’t get along, but they have been rivals for a long time. There is more.

During the evacuation, players help Evon save his caravans. Once his goods are nearly secure, a captain tells him to hurry up so they can use the last gate for evacuations before it closes. Evon then spites the captain by going through the gate and closing it trapping the captain!

Back at Vigil Keep, he is screaming about how he was right and the blood is on Magnus, gets into a fight with the Lion Guard soldier and helps our favorite robot golem just to spite others.

People like saying Evon has no power, but they clearly forget money is power. Who are the richest characters? Evon and Queen Jenna. Evon has possibly more as the human citizens pay for Jenna’s bills.

With LA gone there is going to be a major power opportunity if people blame the captains for LA being in ruins. guess who would take advantage?

The Lionguard and the Seraph have been a little too buddy-buddy during this update. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gnashblade is trying to plan a revolt because Queen Jennah’s minions have been commanded to try to take over. Why do I think that? The Seraph are being a little too involved with Ho-Ho-Tron, who already served his time during Wintersday. The LA refugee camp isn’t part of the Seraph jurisdiction, but the Seraph took authority as if they were in DR!

And for those who say that they wouldn’t trust Ho-Ho-Tron: He could of been assigned to only help the LA prisoners who were affected by the miasma instead of being allowed to help all of the civillians.

Apologies to Queen Jennah’s fans, but I don’t see her as a benign, sincere person. Just because the queen is nice on the surface doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have a need to expand her kingdom. Her image is just too Mary Sue perfect (and yes, I did play the human storyline as well as the Cadecus Manor story). When people act too perfect, there is a good chance they are hiding something. She acts too much like the real life politicians we see here in the US.

Prior to this update, there was talk among the overtly-religious humans in Divinity’s Reach about how LA became so seedy because of the pirates. For those who aren’t familiar with history, being a pirate / privateer in ancient times was a way to turn one’s back on the monarchy and the Pope / Inquisition. Being a pirate meant FREEDOM, and it’s also interesting to note that privateers were instrumental to the birth of the United States of America. Basically, Lion’s Arch in the game is alot like a proto-democracy / proto-United States. The people of DR didn’t like LA for the excess freedom it represented (similar to certain overtly religious RL countries I shall not name at this time). I wouldn’t be surprised if Queen Jennah thought the same as the people of DR. In ancient times, people who followed monarchs often copied the monarch’s thinking patterns. Monarchs were the original celebrities after all.

Is Evon plotting an uprising?

You’ve got the idea, but the wrong plot. Evon is a coward and a fool and wouldn’t be able to pull it off. That waste of space Kiel? Hah, she’s almost as incompetent. No no no, our real concern is the Consortium…. All this time they’ve been waiting and setting the scene for a corporate takeover of LA and the BLTC. That device Scarlett looked into? Omadd has been working for the consortium, and they needed a puppet to advance their plans. He made a device which would melt the mind and brainwash the victim. Then they set “Scarlett” loose and let her do the dirty work for them. Its all culminated with her letting loose the breach maker. With LA drained (and a lot of new space for housing projects I might add), the Consortium are ready to step back into the spotlight, and “save our sorry butts” from Scarlett. After which, they will dispose of their pawn, and we will hail our new overlords, displacing the captains council and reigning in a new era of the consortium trading co.

This is a very plausible explanation for why Scarlet decided to kill the non-combatants in Lion’s Arch. It is possible that the she has a deal with the Consortium (and possibly the Captains Council).

For the last 2 weeks, I’ve been thinking that our red-headed Sylvari villaness has been acting out of character. The previous updates didn’t feature Scarlet killing people for the sake of killing others. She had always tortured or killed people for the sake of her scientific experiments a la Inquest (such as trying to fry Lord Faren in a cauldron to see how fast he could die or the Legendary Clockheart project). Plus, people who commit genocide often do it out of racial hatred, religious hatred, or political hatred. Scarlet isn’t part of a religious ideology, and she had no hatred for the varied peoples of LA before this update.

She didn’t need to command her minions to kill the people who weren’t a threat to them. She could of just commanded her minions to set up the miasma containers to keep people away from the drill. She could of also commanded her lackeys to troll the survivors in LA. There is a good chance that someone is paying Scarlet to do these horrendous acts. Her payment: She gets to drill the bay in LA for the leylines.

How many times does it have to be said?

Not happening. Cannot, will not, should not, never, no. Just… no.

They cannot wield most weapons, cannot move quickly on land, and have shown no leanings towards any of the 8 professions.

Plus, they are a study race (described as a lesser race in the Personal Story) which rules them out beyond any doubt.

Please stop wasting your own time making these threads. Sorry if this post seems harsh but… people just don’t seem to be getting the message.

Just because you don’t like Quaggans doesn’t mean that everyone agrees. Plus, it’s not my fault Anet added a bunch of addictive Quaggan tonics to this update! I’m not alone either. There are alot of people on the Tarnished Coast server who would love to have a PC version of these little guys. They’re the comic relief of the game.

How about you go bother the people who post requests for Largos, Skritt, or Tengu PCs?

Don’t like Quaggans? Just leave the Quaggan fans alone.

Quaggan is angry! Scarlet destroyed Quaggans’ homes and now we have nowhere to go! First, Bad Ice, then Scarlet… It’s time for Quaggans to rise up, quit being the cute victims, and show the bad people who is boss! Quaggans will never have peace until Quaggans stand up for themselves!

OOC: And yes, I’m serious about having Quaggan PCs! We really need to have these little guys on our team! Why should they always be the woobie-styled victims? Please, Anet, make it so!

Here’s the added plus to having Quaggans around: These little guys are FAST. I’d love to have a Quaggan PC for WvW. We already have Quaggan finishers. Let’s take it one step farther!

1) The Quaggan warband with their Charr trainer (aka the Quaggan Whisperer). Nothing like marching into battle with a bunch of angry, vengful, anti-Scarlet Quaggans!

Living Story design is extremely unfriendly

Until Anet fixes this issue, the best way to solve it is to pull your guild into an overflow map. My guild is the largest on the Tarnished Coast server, and we do this all the time for the big events like Teq or Wurm.

HOW TO PULL OTHERS INTO YOUR MAP:

1) Choose a leader.

2) Then create a party with people who are on another map (main map or overflow).

3) Then have your party members right- click on your picture and select “Join in <insert location here>”. So if you want your members to join you in Lion Arch’s overflow map, just have them click “Join in Lion’s Arch”.

4) Once everyone is on the same map, the leader should tell them to leave the party so he / she can pull other people into the map.

PROBLEM SOLVED… for now.

Triple Trouble Bugs on Tarnished Coast Server

Hi! I was with my guild [AARM] fighting the Triple Trouble Wurm, and I experienced some major problems during the battle. My team was fighting the Wurm by the Jelako Waypoint. The issues cropped up betweeen 7pm to 7:35 pm NA Server Time.

FYI — I had my graphics setting on Best Performance during the entire fight. I also have Comcast Extreme 50, which is the cable internet connection for MMORPG players, so I know my internet connection isn’t a problem.

1) There was a WP freeze. I wasn’t able to waypoint when my character died.

2) I experienced a skill freeze on my main character’s engineer skills. (FYI: My main character is a Level 80 engineer named Lapis N Lazuli) I was unable to use the elite skill, Supply Crate. The game would freeze whenever I tried to use the Supply Crate. I eventually managed to change my elite to Sylvan Hound, and I experienced a 1 minute delay in summoning the dog. I also noticed that my flamethrower didn’t respond when I pressed button number 1. The flamethrower quit responding in the middle of battle.

My skills went back to normal after the fight was over.

3) After the fight was finished, I tried to log out of the game, so I could restart my computer. Whenever I pushed the log off button, the button didn’t respond. I had to push Alt +Enter to put the game in window mode and close the window. I couldn’t log off the normal way.

Which cycle do Trahearne and Scarlet belong?

in Lore

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

I was in the middle of writing my fan fic when this question popped into my mind:

Which cycle(s) do Scarlet Briar and Trahearne belong to?

In the case of Trahearne, there isn’t anything in the wiki that indicates when he woke up. I’d like to say Cycle of Dusk because he’s an intellectual and a loner who prefers to be with his books. Then again, he could be from Cycle of Dawn because he does alot of traveling and conversing with other intellectuals. Hm….

In Scarlet Briar’s case, I read this passage from the official short story, “What Scarlet Saw”:

““Shhh. I’m thinking.” Ceara opened her eyes to a vibrant world of greens and golds and earthy browns. Sunlight streamed down through the canopy, nourishing the great trees and warming the ground level vegetation. All around, creatures of every shape and size called to one another, exploring, chasing, being chased, always in motion.”

From this description, it sounds as if she was born during the Cycle of Noon. This surprises me because she’s an engineering genius. She’s far from the action-hero Sylvari that are common in the Noon Cycle. She would seem to be the type that belongs in Kahedin’s group. Then again, her awakening at noontime would explain why she eventually rebelled. I don’t see her giving any respect to Niamh. Perhaps she would of thought that Niamh was just another dumb warrior. Just a thought.

I’m only asking this question because I’m trying to keep my fan fic as close to the official canon as possible. Does anyone know the answer to this question?

so what happens to PS when LA goes down?

in Living World

kta.6502

Unfortunately, the personal storyline instances still take place AFTER Scarlet has invaded LA. It ruins any immersion in the story…

  • Kids are playing in a burning city filled with miasma and Scarlet’s armies.
  • Tybalt is selling apples in the empty ruins of LA
  • Destiny’s Edge discussing the threat of Dragons while Scarlet destroys LA…
  • Caithe: We cannot help the others. How can we help Tyria? …………………………………………………..

Perhaps start by saving people in LA instead of creating drama with your former guild?

ROTFLMAO! If I were in your shoes, I would report this as a game bug. That way. Anet can fix this so the PS scenes can have their own scenes of Lion’s Arch.

Tybalt Leftpaw --> Aetherblade?

in Lore

1) timeline impossible
2) again impossible because of not only timeline but also how the OoW works
3) THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF LA ARE PIRATES!
4) points 1 and 2
5) Actually he just had his burned arm technologically improved, you can still see his burned arm on his model. Also that risen commander sure does talk stuff.

You need to elaborate on your theories. Saying things like “timeline is impossible” without suggesting another idea doesn’t contribute to the conversation. Why do you think the timeline and other ideas in the OP are impossible? Don’t be afraid to go into details!

PEOPLE, THIS IS NOT A DEBATE POST. If you have different ideas, please feel free to post them. Citing your sources would also help. Please rememeber to be respectful of others. This is not a contest nor is it an opportunity to play Lore Police.

Also, posting things like “Agreed” or “Timeline impossible” without explanation doesn’t contribute to the conversation. Why do you agree or disagree with the OP? Don’t be afraid to go into detail! This is a speculation conversation after all.
—————————————————————————————————————————-

I just thought of this while writing a fanfic about the Escape from Lion’s Arch event.

There is an ascended item called Appleseller’s Lucky Cog. According to the in-game description, it is a smoothed cog that has the initials “T.L.” engraved on it.

The symbol for the Aetherblade pirates is a cog. It’s not implausible to think that Tybalt was a member of the sky pirates.

So it made me wonder:

1) Was he a former Aetherblade who decided to turn his life around?

2) In the game, Tybalt mentions that he worked as an office worker for the Whispers for 6 years. Was the story that he told our Whisper PCs a sham? Could he have been an agent spying on the pirates during this time?

3) In the Whispers storyline, there are some pirate themed events. If Tybalt had been a pirate in the past, it would explain why the order assigned him to the job. He could of known the ins and outs of pirate culture.

4) Could Tybalt have been a double agent working for both the Aetherblades and the Order of Whispers? If this ever turns out to be true, it would explain the events at Claw Island as an attempt on the charr’s life.

5) There are those in the community that believe that Tybalt never died because his prosthetic arm was no where to be found when the PCs took back Claw Island. So it’s possible that he could be working for them (assuming he was an Aetherblade to begin with). It is also possible that Tybalt faked his death to begin a new life.

I know these questions don’t have answers, but they’re fun to think about.

Can we get Banned for Kicking?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

I am sure everyone is already familiar with CoF P1 by now.

This is a hypothetical situation, but here’s the predicament:

We posted “LFG CoF P1 80s EXP Only” on LFG Tool.
We did the dungeon fine until the gate part.
One person in team does not know he/she has to stand in one of the four bubbles.
That person keeps killing the infinitely spawning mobs in the room.
We tried party chat to tell that person to stand in the bubble.
We tried whispering to that person to stand in the bubble.
That person refused and is threatening to report us if he/she gets kicked.
We cannot proceed to final boss because that person is not cooperating.
We either have to leave and start over, or kick him/her.
We chose to kick that person and get reported.
Since we still cannot proceed unless we get someone else, we invited a guildie.
The guildie said she was only in for the tokens, and said she wanted to share 30s with each of us out of the 1g26s she received at the end as thanks.

So in the situation here, we kicked someone and invited a guildie in his/her place at the end of the dungeon, and received money from that guildie. But we had to kick, it’s obvious.

It might seem like we did this on purpose by abuse-kicking that person, but it clearly is not. When we are 1-member short, the first place to ask is guild chat. We did not sell the run either, she decided to share her reward. We would feel bad to refuse a gift from her and return the mail.

Which part of this could get us banned? Does Arenanet check chatlogs when someone reports people for being kicked in dungeons? Is this considered abusive behaviour?

I believe the dungeon is badly designed on that part…

Sounds like that player you kicked commited the act of GREIFING. You were nice enough to give the person a warning 2 times before you kicked him/her, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Wiki definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griefer
