Who owns Orr?

If we do clense Orr eventually down the line of the living story, who is the rightful owner? I would guess either the Charr or humans but would that reinstate conflict between them? Charr technically won the fight but it is also the land of the human gods. Or would it be an entirely different deal where it is just open game for everyone. I imagine nations would want the land though given the powerful magic there.

I smell DRAMA! I guess ol’ Trahearne should of thought of solution to this BEFORE cleansing Orr. LOL!

another *what if* theory

kta.6502

The problem with this theory is that it relies on the ELder Dragons being concious of the decisions they make. It’s pretty clear the guildwars books that the Dragons are mindless, bent on one thing. They don’t have a war council, they just consume. They are mindless, which is exactly why I think they are being controlled by someone with a mind.

The elder dragons clearly show signs of intelligence. A mindless being does not control champions/luitenants/armies/fleets and does not sent an infiltrator to disrupt the Pact’s command structure.

And before you say Zhaitan doesn’t control his armies, his champions do. That’s like saying a general doesn’t command his armies, his luitenants do. It’s called an hierarchical command structure.

Here is something to think about: Zhaitan is a soverign and his champions are the generals. If you’ve ever read Sun Tzu’s Art of War, you’ll know that the two roles must be kept separate for war to be successful. The soverign acts like a supervisor while the generals do the warring.

It makes we wonder if Kasmeer is trying to attract Majory or if she is just really dumb. I heard a rumor in the grapevine that Kasmeer and Majory are… um… a couple. But it’s probably just a rumor.

Thought Provoking Sylvari Questions

in Lore

kta.6502

No, this isn’t a thread about Sylvari philosophy. :P I’ve got a few questions regarding the Pale Tree, Caladbolg, and Trahearne. I’m hoping the questions I ask will spark a discussion, and hopefully give the devs something to think about when they’re trying to figure out what to add to future updates. Now onwards to the questions! There about 8 questions.

Section 1: the Pale Tree

1. Most of us know that the Sylvari experiences automatically go back to the Pale Tree, and we know that some of the info about the world goes to the Sylvari that are still in the Dream. My question is this: What does the Pale Tree do with the extra info? Keep in mind only the Pale Tree has access to this info (according to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pale_Tree ).

2. Do any of the other races know that a Sylvari’s experiences and memories go back to the Pale Tree?

Section 2: Trahearne

3. Inquring minds want to know: What is Trahearne’s real relationship to his mom? Is he a Mama’s boy, a controlled pawn, or what? No, I’m not trying to smear the guy. I’m one of the Pro-Trahearne people because my RL is similar to Trahearne’s life. ANYWAYS, after reading Dream and Nighmare on the GW2 wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dream_and_Nightmare), I couldn’t help but wonder about this. For some reason, everything in Sylvari society seems to go to him as if he were a prince.

4. About Trahearne’s various trips to Orr: Do you think this is his way to get away from his mom and her over-reliance on him? I hate to say this, but the Mama Tree is a teeny bit over-reliant on her firstborn son. Sorry, I had to ask. :P

5. Why did Caithe hesitate to introduce Trahearne to the Sylvari heroes? And why doesn’t the Pale Tree want anyone to question the Dream? For those who don’t remember this part in the game, the exchange went like this:

Avatar of the Tree: Caithe, I wish for the valiant to meet my eldest child.
Caithe: Trahearne has returned from Orr? Mother, is that wise?
Avatar of the Tree: Do not question the Dream. We must all play our parts.

Where I’m from, if a person says “Do not question”, it means it’s definitely time to question things! Caithe’s reaction also makes me very suspicious as well.

Section 3: Caladbolg

6. According to the GW2 wiki, Caladbolg has the ability to bring out the wielder’s negative qualities (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Caladbolg). Why would the Pale Tree create a sword that brings out the wielder’s negative qualities ? I believe this is how Trahearne eventually evolves into a j___ during the rest of the game. This sword definitely isn’t a holy sword!

7. When I saw the name Caladbolg, I automatically recognized it as the welsh name for Excalibur. In Irish and Welsh myth, Caladbolg is the sword that can cut through mountains (when it’s placed in the hands of an experienced swordsman). That means it could be easily used to destroy the Grove. Why would the Pale Tree create a sword that could be used against her?

Does Tyria have its own calendar?

in Lore

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

I’m currently writing a Sylvari fanfic and I’d like to know if there is an official Tyrian calendar. In my story, the first main character “awakened” during the month of October, and the second character “awakened” during December.

I haven’t seen any evidence that the Sylvari have an official calendar, so if there is a general Tyrian calendar (official or fan made) that I could refer to, that would be great!

Thanks for advance for your help!

Tis a lie! It cannot be true!

I’m going to keep the possiblity open on this one. I know what Anet’s said about this, but they also have a history of throwing storyline curve balls at our characters, kinda like a challenging Dungeon Master (DM) of a pen and paper RPG.

First Anet shoved Trahearne down our throats, then Scarlet came next. Who knows what other curve balls the devs will throw at us.

Bring on the curve balls, Anet! I’m waiting! Tis good fanfic fodder!

After talking to so many people in the Nightmare Tower about Sylvaris, I compiled a list of slang terms for the different classes as well as some of the NPCs and other stuff.

This list is meant to be a joke. It’s not complete either. If you don’t like Sylvari jokes, please don’t read any further. Feel free to add your own terms to this list.

Sylvari Classes

Sylvari Warrior — Violets

Sylvari Guardian — Bacon Salad (FYI: Bacon is a slang term for a cop)

Sylvari Ranger — Zucchini (because they keep pets)

Sylvari Necro — Stinkweed; Creeper; Sap sucker

Sylvari Elementalist — Kindling (fire ele)
Leaf Blower (wind ele)
Stoners (earth ele)

Sylvari Mesmer — Daydreamer

Sylvari Engineer — Salad Shooter; Pea Shooter

NPCs

Nightmare Court — Caesar Salad; Bad Apple

Scarlet Briar — Spinach (or a Spin-ATCH)

Frightened nightmare court member — Chicken Caesar Salad

Trahearne’s Sylvari right hand person — a Side Salad

Other Terms

Salad Spinner — Another name for the pods that the Nightmare Court uses to brainwash good Sylvari

a fashionable Sylvari — a Dandelion

a Sylvari adventure — a Veggie Tale

Anti-Sylvari Asuras — Bugs

And with that I leave you with the Nightmare Court’s offical anthem, the song known as Bad Apple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owFulRTR1Sc

Hum.

Sometimes, I think that I am the only one who comes here to smell the roses and gather iris flowers together. To experience the content. To do battle with trolls that we might then clear the path to the front gate so that we might then storm the castle.

It seems at times that other than myself, and one or two people who have never been to the zone before, I have nobody else helping me setup large meta events where 30+ players swarm in for the last three minutes to claim the end reward…and only those few with me from the start know the true struggle we faced, and the true story behind the big bad we slew.

Do you look at the visitas you visit?
Do you see the challenges the world presents?
Do you stop to smell the flowers?

Why must one always rush to the end result, skipping everything that comes before?
Why must one take an easy boss with a fun fight and glitch it into a yawn boring fight where the boss just stands there and……zzzzzzzzz…..

…zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZzzzzz……

//Portable Corpse
…mmmmmm. Fried devourer steaks and bell pepper in rice…zzzzzzzzz….

Because the people who speed through the stuff are just hardcore power players. To them, games are just about getting points and money.

I think it is a poorly thought out idea to demand they bring a function from one MMO to another, when the MMOs have completely different systems of play and operation. I am sorry, but i think this is a horrible idea.

Guild Wars 1 was created by Anet, so it makes sense ask these guys to bring back what worked in the past. They should still have the code for the hero / hench AI system. Like it or not, GW 1 is related to GW2.

Aww. No love for the Hyleck. I would love to be a frog person. And a mole man.

And apparently, no love for Quaggans and Skritt either. I’d love to be the cute Quaggan trying to save the world, and he’s going to need a fuzzy Skritt sidekick to go with him.

Not a big fan of Largos though. They make me think of the Star Trek aliens. You know, the type of aliens that are only distinguishable from humans by their nose jobs. Plus, they’re just too human for me. I played a human in the last GW game, so playing a human-like character again just doesn’t excite me unless they have a strong, full developed, emotional story line (like the humans in GW1).

As for Kodan — Those bears are too similar to the Coca-Cola polar bears.

Now back on topic: I’m saying no to elves too. First off, there is no elven lore in Tyria. The dark elves concept is too simillar to D&D’s Drow, Warcraft’s Night Elves, and the Lord of the Rings elves. You’d have to come up with a really good, unique concept to make elves fresh and new again.

No thanks! Make some friends if you want people to hang out with.

People like me would do this if the majority of experienced American players weren’t bullies and perfectionists when it comes to the end game stuff, Fractals and dungeons. Since I can’t control other people, I’d rather play with NPCs since I get more respect out of the AI then the other so-called human beings. At least AI doesn’t complain about my gear, class, race, or gameplay style like the bullies do. (The funny light moment in all of this is that none of the bullies are experts in the Engineering class).

Really,. My RL is stressful enough as it is. I don’t need to be giving other players “teaching moments” when it comes to playing with others. When I log on, I just want to relax, enjoy the game, crack a few jokes, and just have fun. If the bullies don’t like it, they can go suck on a champion krait’s tail for all I care.

NO, No henchmen… That would ruin A LOT in this game!!!! Thanks…

How would it ruin a lot in the game? People who want to play with other people can, and people who can only play at off peak times can still enjoy the game with henchmen. No one would force you to use them.

It wouldn’t ruin the game. Did the NPCs in the Nightmare Chambers ruin your solo experience? Seriously think about that. And if you haven’t played in the chambers by yourself, I suggest that you try that experience.

I agree with Nemesis. I usually play from 10 pm to 6 am Pacific Standard Time. My daytime job and other adult responsibilities keep me from logging on earlier most days. It’s really hard to find people who are willing to do long dungeons and fractals at that time. My guild can’t help me because they have work, school, and in some cases, kids to take care of. And there is no guarantee that PUGs will allow me in since I don’t have exotic, ascended, or legendary gear. I got booted from a few Fractal groups (who wanted to do low level Fractals) yesterday because of my gear and inexperience in the Fractal dungeons.

In the last game, people weren’t forced to have heroes and henchies. They could run missions by themselves or get a group of friends to help.

honestly its pretty sad when you get killed by things half your level.

That just means you’ll have to practice your blocking, jumping, dodging and timing skills. It also helps to use any blocking and interrupt skills during combat as well.

I play a Level 80 Sylvari Engineer, one of the worse races for jumping and dodging. It doesn’t help that they’re also the slowest race on the face of Tyria. Even Quaggans are faster than Sylvari. LOL.

I’ve been forced to perfect my jumping, dodging, and timing skills during PvE and WvW combat. It’s the only way for him to survive the entire game. Unless your character has some sort of super armor, he/she can’t just stand there and hack the enemy to pieces.

It’s because she made the WvW merc camps h___ for some players.

A suggestion to keep certain people from getting upset at the thought of Cantha coming into being, Here’s a story arch you may want to try. The plague that Shiro Tagachi spread, Caused wide spreed burning of homes. The only ones that survived the blight where some stragglers from the city, Kurzicks and Luxons. Say the Kurzicks and Luxons rebuilt the towns and main city with there architecture. The names of the Kurzicks are mainly German any way (like zu Heltzer), also the names of the Luxons are different as well. Remake Cantha into a new place. That way no one is offended, And we can have a Cantha expansion pack. Just considering the possibility’s in Cantha.

It could work, but it would be more of Neo-Luxon and Neo-Kurzick groups that operate underground.

As for the plague, this is how it could work out: an ancient Asuran researcher got a hold of a sample of the plague during the time of the plague. That sample got passed down to his/her modern descendant who has to keep it out of the hands of Inquest and the Nightmare Court (who teamed up just to get the sample). If the sample falls into the wrong hands, it would annihilate all of Tyria because there is no modern cure for it.

You’re forgetting that Guild Wars is not solely populated by Americans, sincerely a player from NZ. I’m quite certain most Americans wouldn’t appreciate being lumped into some generalisation that they lack teamwork skills either…
But really, if you want to play single player content go play a single player game. It’s pretty simple.

FYI: I happen to be American, born and raised in the US and my family is a military family. I also said the word “most”, so my statement isn’t a generalization (not by American English standards). It’s constructive criticism. Calm down. You’re just being too sensitive.

No, I’m just saying that GW2 on the NA servers should be better adapted to the gameplay styles common in the US. I know the ins and out of my own culture, and I’m sad to say that it’s harder to play American MMOs because of the additional challenge of difficult, aggressive players that populate these games. (FYI: I"ve been playing these game since the days when MMOs were called MUDs). I see the same problems over and over again on other games on NA servers, but other games make ways for players like me to avoid the aggressive folks. Like I said, in WoW, the giant active player base makes it possible to avoid angry people. GW 2, on the other hand, doesn’t have a giant active base, so they should just do what worked in the last game they created. Anet should make soloable content.

This implies dungeon/fractal content isnt currently soloable. It is, just a bit tricky and obviously takes alot longer. So far I’ve soloed CoF and TA though I know for instance there’s this guy Wethospu whos soloed like literally all dungeons possible. However, if you mean soloing dungeons should take roughly as long as doing it with a group, at about the same level of difficulty and reward (meaning the mobs should be scaled down for solo play), its not a bad idea. BTW, the end instance Nightmare Incarnate was also soloable. Its probably the easiest dungeon to solo next to the Nightmare Chambers one, I do agree we should see more of these type of content.

I had no problems soloing the Nightmare Incarnent, and I loved it. I just forgot to add the name of that section to my post. lol

I tried to solo the lower level Fractals yesterday, but I had trouble with it. My character is a level 80 Sylvari Engineer, but I don’t have ascended / legendary stuff to help my character to survive longer. It too easy for him to get swarmed on Fractals.

I completely understand the desire for solo content.
But MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplay Online Roleplaying Game.
Too much solo content kind of defeats that.

I did absolutely love GW1, it is my favourite game hands down, but it was a completely unique creature and I don’t imagine we will be seeing anything like it again.

I understand what you’re saying, but we’re dealing with American players, not East Asian players. Solo stuff is needed to make the game worth the price. I was able to get to Level 80 in two weeks, and I was taking my time. Once a person gets to level 80 the Personal Story is just too easy to beat. Plus, it doesn’t pose enough challenge to be worth $40. Also, the story is too short.

Let’s face it: Most Americans lack teamwork skills and / or have a different interpretation of teamwork (depending on the person). Blame our extreme pro-individualism culture for this problem. I’m part Asian and Latin American, so I know the foreign interpretation of teamwork (thx to my foreign mom). I’ve been on Asian MMOs (which are true MMOs in my opinion), and I never experienced the pushiness and angst on those games that is prevalent in American online games. In a game like WoW, I can avoid the angry, hardcore people because of the giant active player base. This game is has a smaller active player base. What helped Anet compete against other companies in the past is the fact that they had solo content, and it was easy to avoid the pushy players. The current system is going to cause Anet to lose players and the Tarnished Coast server is losing more and more players everyday. There aren’t enought players for WvW on our server which is causing us to struggle in the competition. Outside of Jade Quarry, Sea of Sorrows, and Blackgate, the other servers are getting less and less players. Anet should go back to what was successful in the past.

What you guys at Anet did with the Nightmare Chambers is wonderful. I was able to take my time and enjoy the story without impatient players ruining my enjoyment during my first time thru the section. When I got familiar with the Tower dungeons, I went to help other players that were having trouble with enemies or who preferred fighting in groups. WE NEED MORE DUNGEONS LIKE NIGHTMARE CHAMBERS. That’s right. I’m suggesting that we need NPCs to accompany a solo player during the regular dungeons and fractals. Ideally, I’d like to see the henchie / hero system from GW1 introduced in this game.

I’m getting tired of impatient players (in both the PUGs and my current guild). (NOTE: I’m already thinking about leaving my current guild because no one wants to do long dungeons or fractals when I’m on due to their schedules. They only want to do the short stuff).

It’s frustrating that I can’t enjoy the new Fractal updates because some players:

— can’t state that they’re only looking for pro-speed-run players when they advertise on the Need a Group page.

— can’t state that they’re looking for experienced players only for their PUGs.

— only want to do short dungeons, and I want to do the long treks like TA path 3. (FYI: Before anyone says “Did you post a LFG ad?” I just want people to know that I usually play during the graveyard hours on the NA servers. So I can’t always get players who are willing to go on a long dungeon crawl that late at night)

— who boot players for enjoying the story.

— don’t want players who don’t have ascended / legendary weapons and armor.

— have trouble with English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) players (NOTE: American English is my first language, but it’s upsetting that some American players are just rude or cruel to foreign players in the PUG groups). Today, the leader of a Fractal PUG just left the group just when we were finished with the Mossman scenario. This person left because of an ego issue and failure to understand that a couple players weren’t fluent in English. The entire group was sent back to Lion’s Arch because the leader left. (FYI: Whenever I see that players speak in short answer or incomplete sentences, I automatically assume that I’m dealing with ESL players. It just means that I have to have more patience as a player since there is a language barrier).

I’ve been playing GW 2 since the last free trial period, and I’m almost done with my character’s personal story. The only other PvE storiesare the Toxic events. I spent $40 on this game last October, and I can’t play dungeons or Fractals in order to get the better armor, gold, and/or achievements. It doesn’t help that the players aren’t any help and unfriendly to newer players like myself. Don’t get me wrong. I’m an experienced MMORPG player, but it’s frustrating that the unfriendly player base is keeping me from enjoying this game beyond the personal story.

In the previous GW game, whenever I trouble getting a group for a dungeon run or a mish, I would just solo the stuff myself (with heroes and henchies, of course). I did this with every dungeon and mission except Shards of Orr. I don’t see why Anet can’t just create a solo version of the dungeons and Fractals and bring back the hero/hench system while they’re at it.

Help with a new laptop

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

I’ve got good news and bad news. Let’s get through the bad news first.

Bad News: GW2 can’t be played on laptops.

Why? Because the game causes most video cards and hard drives to heat up. GW 2 has very demanding video animation requirements unlike it’s predecessor, GW 1. If the computer doesn’t have a decent cooling system, the entire system will be fried from the heat that is generated inside the chassis. The computer can also fail if the hard drive isn’t designed for gaming.

Unlike a desktop, laptops require a cooling pad to keep them in tip-top shape for years (unless you live in an extemely cold place like Alaska). This goes double if you live in the southwest states (like Arizona and California). I live in Seattle, Washington State which has cool temperate climate for most of the year, and I still have to use a cooling pad to keep the computer’s temperature in the goldilocks zone.

The fans inside a laptop don’t do enough to expel the heat from the machine nor are they good in bringing in cool air from the outside. That is why a cooling pad is always required for a laptop.

BEWARE OF LAPTOPS THAT ARE LABELED AS “GAMING COMPUTERS”. There are gaming computers and there are psuedo-gaming computers which are designed to look like a gaming comp. The laptop I own was advertised as a gaming computer and the sales people in Best Buy told me it was a gaming computer. The computer can run a demanding computer animation / graphics program like Autodesk Maya 2014, but it can’t play GW 2. (Yeah, I was lied to). The laptop’s outside cover (aka the chassis) tends to hold in the heat while playing GW2. This causes the computer’s temp to go 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) and above. FYI — I purchased this computer back in November 2011.

Here are the specs for this so-called “gaming” laptop:

HP Pavillion G7-1365dx
Memory: 4 GB DDR3 (upgradable to 8GB)
Windows 7 SP 1 (64 bit)
Processor: AMD A6-3420M Quad Core
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6520G
Sound card: AMD High Definition Audio
Hard Drive: Hitachi SATA HDD

A true gaming computer has proper ventilation as well as components that can handle the heat generated from the hard drive and video card when it is in use. It also has a power supply box that is designed specifically for gaming for long hours (like in WvW).

Now, here’s the good news: A desktop computer specifically designed for gaming is your best bet. Most people on a budget tend to buy a basic gaming computer setup and slowly upgrade the components over the years. A good gaming comp usually runs close to $1000 and goes up from there.

Don’t buy a computer with an Intel processor. Intel processors are designed for business and school computers. They tend to slow down, crash, and melt while playing high end games like GW2. That’s been my personal experience with Intel Processors.

Here are the spec for my current gaming computer which I originally purchased back in November 2010. The temperature in this desktop computer doesn’t go any higher than 111 degrees F (43 degrees C) during gameplay. Here’s my desktop’s specs:

Hewlett Packard HPE-400y
RAM: 8 GB DD3
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 945 Quad CoreProcessor
Graphics Card: Radeon HD 5450
Sound: AMD High Definition Audio
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black SATA 2 TB (72oo RPM)
Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit)

Another alternative is to get an Iphone or Ipad. I’ve got a couple people in my guild who play GW2 on their phones and Ipads. I don’t own either product, so you might want to start another thread to ask the other players about that.

Well, that’s my 2 cents. Sorry for dashing your dream of playing GW2 on a laptop, but I don’t want you to get fooled like I did.

I hope you find your ideal gaming system soon! Good luck!

Major problems after Nighmares Within update

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Hi! I’ve been experiencing problems after the Nightmare Within update:

— extreme lag inside the tower

— command delays. For example, I push Number 6 to use my character’s healing skill and the button flashes and nothing happens. I push Number 1 to use my character’s pistol and nothing happens. This started happening after the last update. This is happening no matter what map I’m on. It happens in WvW, PvE, and especially the Nightmare Tower.

— Computer freezes during the Nightmare Chamber battles.

— Extreme loading time for Tower of NIghtmares. A few minutes ago, the loading screen for the tower lasted 5 minutes.

I’ve already checked my Internet connection and I’ve played other MMOs like WoW on the computer. I even did a clean boot. My computer is working fine. It’s the game that isn’t working well at all. I didn’t have these problems before the Nightmare Within update. Everything started happening after yesterday’s update.

Make Quaggans into Player Characters!

I’m on Sea Of Sorrows, lmao. I think I see 1 of them out of every 20 players I see in my screen and it’s like: Oh, dear Lord…

LOL! Maybe those players think Quaggan power will help them fight against my server, Tarnished Coast, in WvW. LOL!

BTW, if you seen an Indiana Jones-styled Slyvari in WvW. That’s me. :P

See you in-game!

Oh God no, don’t so that! It’s bad enough I see Quaggan Back Slot covers, making everyone look as if: “Weee!! I’m starting first grade today!”

thud

Really? I never see anyone on my server with a Quaggan backpack on. What server are you on?

I can see why: Baby quaggans (like Quaggan Ghost and Quaggan piwate) are cute to look at.

Quaggan lovers unite! Quaggans need to be player characters in GW2!

The main reason I’m suggesting this: I love the quaggans’ storyline and sympathize with their plight. Plus, I only got a few quaggan-related quests in my Sylvari Engineer’s Personal Storyline.

The idea of a young quaggan trying to save themselves (and their community) from extinction would make for an excellent (albeit emotional) heroic storyline for this game.

Another added plus: Seeing a quaggan in WvW or in the dungeons is good for laughs.

Side note: There is a person in my guild who changes into a quaggen when they want to run rings around Charr in Catherdal of Flames or running from warriors in WvW. It makes everyone on Teamspeak laugh when this happens.

[Merged] Think "Mounts" outside the box!

I totally agree with adding land mounts to this game. Plus, it’s fun to ride to the rescue. Flying mounts wouldn’t make sense in Tyria since there aren’t any floating cities in this game.

Riding a mount would make it easier to find crafting supplies since I hate buying crafting stuff from TP. On some maps, the ores and saplings are pretty far from each other (like the Gendaran map), and there have been days where I don’t see any ores, saplings, or veggies on the little map.

In Guild Wars 1, there was a temporary mount called the Charr Siege Devourer that your character could ride. I would love to see a faster version of that tank in Guild Wars 2.

If they do make mounts for this game, it would be great if characters from all races could ride the different mounts. Imagine a Charr riding a horse (LOL!). That would make this game distinct from World of Warcraft. In WOW, you have to be a human to ride a horse, so my Draenei character was stuck with riding an Elekk.

FYI — I’m a Latin American gamer who was born and raised in the United States. Just so we’re clear.

I don’t feel as if the original post is racist at all. It is mentions some important points. We do have international non-English speaking players logging onto the American servers. I’ve seen a few non-English speaking Koreans Germans, and Latin Americans on the TC server late at night (Pacific Time). So I completely sympathize with your situation.

For the time being, it may be necessary to change servers, so you can join a decent zerg for WvW. The Tarnished Coast server has mostly English speaking gamers.

Lastly, IT IS RUDE for an non-English speaker to be speaking a foreign language on an American server for events like WvW, where it is necessary to communicate plans and instructions to other players in the zerg. In my real life community, many of us Hispanics won’t speak Spanish if it will leave the English speakers feeling alienated. No one wants to feel like an outsider.

That leads me to another point. Speaking in a foreign language also makes other players on the team feel left out and unwanted. Plus, a zerg that doesn’t have good commuication among its members is a failed zerg.

WvW can only be won with teamwork. That’s my 2 cents.

How to beat Veteran Ice Imp (solo)?

Nevermind. I finally figured it out… after going through this quest about 25 times while using different skills.

Bombs… The Ice Imps are weak against bombs. I used the Bomb Kit and the Big Ol’ Bomb as my only weapons during the fight. No pistols or flamethrower needed. I also used the Sylvan Hound to distract them, and I carried a healing kit as well.

As soon as the Imps entered the ritual area, I ran under them and bombed their icy kitten back to kitten before they could use their ice attacks. Okay, a few did use their ice attacks, but I freed myself from the Chill condition with the Drop Antidote from the Healing Kit. The alter went down with a couple of bombs, and it took several bombs to take down the Veteran Ice Imp.

I did die before killing the Veteran. However, I respawned at the checkpoint and ran back into the ritual area before he could heal.

I’ve been having trouble with the final boss on the Pastkeeper (Personal Story) quest. I don’t know what skills I should use against the Veteran Ice Imp. Which Utility skills and Elite skills should I use?

That boss and its minions keep freezing my characters and using ground ice attacks. Is there any way to defend against those ice attacks?

So far I’ve been running around while trying to aim for the altar that the boss produces. Unfortunately, I’m always killed before I can destroy the altar, and my armor is always damaged (or broken) when I just return to the checkpoint in another attempt to kill the boss.

My character is a level 49 Sylvan Engineer.
Primary Weapons: Pistol and Flame Thrower
Traits: 20 Firearms, 10 Tools (9 unused Trait points)

I have seen proven adults doing this same thing. One can’t get one’s guild to go into many dungeons together, PUGS are all that’s left…

To clarify : When I said “kid” and “babies” I wasn’t referring to the players ages. I was referring to their mannerisms. Their manners are like an immature child or a spoiled rotten teenager. I’m in my 30’s and I’ve seen some adults revert to child behavior when they can’t get their way.

Real adults (like myself) don’t go on cussing fits and try to intimidate people when other players refuse to fight certain bosses. What those other players did to the first poster was bullying.

I recently had one player call me a “kitten” during an event on PvE. I told that guy to stop and eventually walked away from that player. Life is too short to hang out with downers and rude people. Just my 2 cents.

Not receiving Acheivement credit

I’m working on the Sweet Friend achievement. I’m not receiving credit for killing both Labyrinth Horror and the Grand High Viscount of Candy Corn . I’ve defeated the Horror 2 times, and I’ve defeated the Grand High Viscount about 10 times.

I’ve gotten all sorts of rewards (money, karma, Mad King Chests, Trick or Treat bags, etc) for defeating these two bosses (with the help of a huge band of other players), so I know my weapons are doing damage. I’m not fighting these guys from a distance either. I’ve been shoulder to shoulder with the warriors when we’ve taken these bosses down.

FYI — I’m a Level 46 Sylvan Engineer on the Tarnished Coast Server.

How am i as a generally kind, mature and serious player supposed to do anything about this? I do realize that this is rare. But this is seriously something that i would like to have resolved, and i think this is a worth a multiple report. For verbal abuse, trolling and in some sense, scamming.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. If I were you, I’d just report the guys for the worst abuses and then forgive and forget. Those kids are probably coming in from other games like Maple Story, where those kinds of actions are common. I should know: I play MapleStory from time-to-time.

Don’t let it get to you. Most likely these were under-age kids who think they can get away with being rude because Mommy and Daddy aren’t looking. It’s not worth letting these babies ruin the game for you. Report, Ban, and Forgive-and-Forget.

Oh, and remember: PUGing is like hitchhiking. You’ll never know who you’ll meet.
