JOIN US FOR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND!

This Saturday, November 28th, we’ll be holding a Priory-themed RP dungeon event. It’s open to everyone! The event will run at 9 am PST (Noon EST), 1 pm PST (4 pm EST), and 5 pm PST (8 pm EST).

IN-CHARACTER INFORMATION

Over the weeks and months, the Durmand Priory will be exploring the many caverns and dungeons that are scattered about Tyria.

To begin this task, we begin with a celebration in the Shire of Beetletun. Minister Caudecus has graciously allowed the Priory and those willing to join the adventure to use his grounds as a diplomatic celebration.

When: 59th of Colossus (Translation: Saturday November 28) at 12 Noon (lunch to be served)
Where: Shire of Beetletun, Queensdale
Host: Magister Pania Alow, on behalf of Minister Cadecus

Various Durmand Priory Magisters, Explorers, Scholars and Novices will be on hand and in attendance.

This is a celebration of exploration.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER INFORMATION

On November 28th at 12 Noon EST (11:00 AM CST, 9:00 AM PST) on the Tarnished Coast server, we’ll be meeting up in the Shire of Beetletun. The event includes entering the Story or Explorable instances of the Caudecus Manor dungeon (each group of 5 can decide which they are doing). These dungeon crawls will be repeated at 4:00 PM EST (1:00 pm PST) and again at 8:00 PM EST (5:00 pm PST).

This event is open to any and all, whether you have done the dungeon before or not. This is especially open to those who do not have Heart of Thorns, though it is encouraged that those who do have the expansion also attend in case there are guides needed to help out anyone who hasn’t run the dungeon before.

After this first weekend, we’ll see how the event went over and see if we can make it a weekly thing, that way moving from dungeon to dungeon, and hopefully helping people get all of their achievements completed for the dungeons.

If you have any questions or comments about the event, please contact me in-game at kta.6502

NEWS FLASH!!!

Guild Wars 2 ROLEPLAYERS challenge Mordremoth in Auric Basin and win!

One small step for roleplayers, one giant leap for the RP community!

Part of the event and the victory was all caught on video! Watch the HD version of the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyGEEYgesdA

On Friday, November 6, 2015, Wyld Storm Vanguard [STRM] teamed up with five Story RP guilds to coordinate and take on a huge RP-PvE challenge: Conquering the Tarir event, a dynamic event in Auric Basin that requires a full map (similar to Silverwastes). Our mission: Combine Story RP with PvE gameplay and a RP Networking event. We challenged Mordremoth’s minions while in-character, and even the regular gamers came out to join in the fun! I’m happy to report that no roleplayers were trolled or griefed at the event.

NOTE: The HD video stops and goes between approx. 1:22 and 1:25. I have now learned the hard way that Discord voice chat and OBS don’t get along. (D… Mordrem trying to prevent us RPers from recording our victory against them!) Luckily the video moves normally again after 1:25 and all of the cool victory emotes showed up shortly after!

Another large-scaled HoT events are in the planning stage. Stay tuned to this thread for the announcement!

While you’re here, consider joining us! (Click here for a summary about the guild)

To apply: You can apply at http://wyldstorm.shivtr.com OR contact the guild leader in-game at kta.6502 for an RP interview!

Let’s build a healthy Guild Wars 2 RP community together!

Guild Name: Wyld Storm Vanguard [STRM]

Website: http://wyldstorm.shivtr.com/

Contact: Lapiths Sapphirus (kta.6502)

Server: Tarnished Coast homeworld, North American megaserver (People from any homeworld on the NA megaserver are always welcomed!)

Guild size: Small (7 members at the moment)

Timezone: U.S. Pacific Timezone

Communications: Guild chat & Discord (We’re working on getting TC Mumble chat)

What are we looking for?

I accept any roleplayer of any skill level and writing level as long as they are willing to create and work on their character’s original personal storyline. You don’t need a fully-fleshed out RP character to join the guild. I’m looking for people who are dedicated storytellers and fans of Guild Wars 2.

I’m also in need of RP event planners and story writers. Right now, we only have two people planning weekly events for the guild. If you like to create things and want to help a Sylvari RP guild grow its presence on the megaserver, contact us!

RP? Roleplayers? What the heck is that?

Guild Wars 2 themed roleplay (RP) is a combination of social activity, collaborative writing, and improv acting all rolled into one creative activity. A roleplayer (RPer) is someone who spends their time creating and acting out a Guild Wars 2 character. In this guild, roleplayers use the game’s settings, activities, and various objects as tools for telling the stories of each character they create.

RP in Guild Wars 2 is also known as “creating fan fics in say chat.”

What are you looking for in applicants?

  • A mature, positive, friendly, helpful, and inclusive attitude. Willingness to include others in your activities is a must.! You must be a sociable person who is able to switch between team and solo activities.
  • Ability to abide by the guild’s Active Players Only policy You must regularly log into the game and spend time with the guild. Your account must be active within the last 30 days. No account parking or alt parking allowed.
  • The ability to be creative and take initiative with your RP (especially when there are no RP events available). Unlike other MMORPGs, roleplay in Guild Wars 2 is often created by each roleplayer who participates in the game. Each RP character has their own original personal story created by the player who owns the character.
  • We want people who have original Guild Wars 2 characters. (This RP Guild / Project doesn’t accept canon characters. Sorry.) The character doesn’t need to have a fully-fleshed out background and storyline. (Note from the guild leader: I slowly developed my characters’ stories over the course of two years. All that is needed for RP is the determination and discipline to add to your character’s tale over time.)

Rep requirements: All members must represent the guild during guild-related OOC events, RP events, and RP sessions.

EXCEPTION to Rep Requirements: Roleplayers from 100% rep PvX, PvE, PvP, and/or WvW gaming guilds never have to represent us. You must inform me about your situation. Other exceptions may also be made, so don’t hesitate to talk to me!
—Lapiths Sapphirus

RP Type: Roleplaying PvX; Medium RP

Theme: Sylvari, business, hunting, adventure, action

Restrictions/type: Active players only; We accept all races, gaming styles, and RP styles; 18+ preferred (Will make exceptions for young people with good attitudes); Players with a mature, positive, friendly, helpful, and inclusive attitude; Dedicated storytellers who take initiative with their RP; No erotic roleplay (ERP)

Gameplay Style:: Wyld Storm Vanguard is casual, fun-loving, and social when it comes to gaming. This group also focuses on learning the game and improving gaming skills. Everyone can progress in the game content at their own pace. If something isn’t fun for you, you don’t have to do it! If you need help, just ask! If you’re looking for a more competitive, hardcore gaming guild, we’re not the right fit for you.

Raid Progression Philosophy:

Raids (WvW and PvE raids) are always optional to all members of the guild. Our approach to raids is that it’s a new learning process for everyone. GW2 Raids require people who are patient, persistent, and willing to learn new things. I want to do both in-character and out-of-character raids provided I can find enough interested players.

To apply: You can apply at http://wyldstorm.shivtr.com OR contact the guild leader in-game at kta.6502 for an RP interview!

If you have any questions and comments, please contact the guild leader in-game at kta.6502.. You can also apply at the website (), comment down below, or send me a PM.

Not sure if this is related to the current problem. I thought I should mention this:

There has been dcd problems on EU megaserver since Saturday. My guildies and I were randomly dcd during our RP events. The dcd became more frequent during yesterday morning’s meetup (Well, morning in the Pacific timezone. Evening in the UK timezone). Everyone in my guild experienced the same problem. At one point, we all dcd at the same time!

My EU account is kta.7630 (Piken Square homeworld).

I can’t log in to my NA account or my EU account right now.

Wyld Storm Vanguard [STRM], a new RP-PVX guild, is looking for roleplayers to play through the Heart of Thorns content while collaborating on an original story about a monster-hunter company that takes things into its own hands. Keep in mind this is a NEW guild, so I do need players who are committed to building an RP-PVX community.

The goal of this group is to play through ALL of the Heart of Thorns content while developing RL & gaming friendships and collaborating on writing a great, entertaining story via RP. Obviously the Commander of the Pact’s story is off limits, but the World Events mentioned in the game’s tale sure isn’t!

Mordremoth GROWS commanders?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

It’s ok, he still has to pay 300g for each one.

It’s an account purchase so he only had to buy it once.

Well, he still needs to gear em out and level them to be an actual threat.
Also he needs to pack their lootboxes before he sends em off so it sums up.

as for why he can’t make troops faster: sylvari grow at lv2, and he only has so many scrolls of XP, it takes time to get them to 80 and he needs to save all the knowledge tomes for the commanders.

plus, getting gold for gearing them up takes ages, and he never does well farming in the silverwastes.

All of you guys are forgetting some important hints:

(1) Mordrem Guard look super-masculine and uber-buffed like the average WoW character.

(2) LS 2 has shown that he has intentions of destroying Tyria and its inhabitants. Remember that his vines killed Tyrians (like Belinda) without being provoked.

This can only mean one thing: Mordremoth is buying and using Blizzard’s Boost-To-Level-90 on his commanders for $60 a pop.

Give me a Legendary Mawdrey

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

I’m going to make a cosmetic suggestion for Legendary Mawdrey:

I would love to see a “Mawdrey in a bag” as a back piece. (See the screenshot below).

When the engineers used to have hobo sacks, sometimes a graphics glitch would occur and the sack would be layered on top of the Mawdrey backpiece. It made Mawdrey look as if she was living in the engineering backpack. That glitch inspired my RP idea.

It was a cute and funny glitch. I often took advantage of it for RP purposes. Today, I’m stuck writing out the information in say chat whenever I RP. Wah… ;_; I miss my “Mawdrey bag”.

kta.6502

Yes! Oh yes! I want a legendary Mawdrey! And not just for the stats either.

I use my Mawdrey backpack as a prop for RP. If a new version of Mawdrey came out, I would make it.

In the RP stories I’m part of, the mawdrey is an experimental pet owned by my Priory character, Lapis the Salad Shooter (in-game name: Lapis N Lazuli). He named the vine Sunshine, she lives in his engineering backpack and she fetches his tools (like grenades & wrenches). She is also a natural bloodstone detector and a good tool for teaching others about Mordrem.

I would hope the new version of Mawdrey would have more animation and colors. It would be really great if there were special emotes associated with the back piece (Okay, I realize that’s pushing it a bit too far, but a girl can dream!) I really like the auto loot idea that others have mentioned already.

Mordrem Invasion Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

It’s an event for new players, and the rewards are bugged. They were pretty clear in the blogpost that players level 18 could participate, so I’m not sure why 80s thought it would be challenging.

The reward bug is crappy for sure, though.

The problem: Anet forgot about their players’ gaming habits.

Historically, events on the lowbie maps usually scale up based on how many people are in the event circle. The Mordrem Invasion event doesn’t scale up.

Anet forgot that people have been preparing for HoT by leveling their characters.

They forgot about the guilds who hold weekly map completion for the public or events like Crusade Across Tyria (rpcd.enjin.com). Newbies can easily join these groups and leave lowbie-dom behind.

They forgot about tomes given as log-in rewards or PvP prizes. People zoom to level 80 in this game.

They forgot that 80s always flood the map when a new event is added to the game. If there are too many 80s in a low level zone, the monster will be instantly downed. Worse, the lowbies won’t be able to get a hit in and receive their share of the loot. It’s not a secret that lowbies at level 18 are slow and have limited skill sets.

[NA Megaserver RP event] To Catch A Mordrem

in In-game Events

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

RP SCENE: Flyers have been posted all over Camp Resolve and the Priory Stations throughout Tyria. Messages about a “mordrem class” have also been sent out via the Priory’s electronic systems.

The flyers and electronic posts read: IT’S MORDREM HUNTING SEASON! ARE YOU PREPARED?

Whether your an experienced hunter or a new Pact / militia recruit, come join our class about Mordrem and learn more about the creatures we’re fighting.

WHEN: Scion 71 (September 9, 2015)
TIME: 6 bells past noon ( 6 pm Pacific Time)
LOCATION: Camp Resolve, Silverwastes [&BH8HAAA=]

This class will include a roundtable discussion where participants can share their own tips, tricks, and tactics for eliminating the wretched beasts. Participants can also share stories about their encounters with the Mordrem.

Those who plan to attend should think about the answers to these questions before attending class:

Have you ever encountered a Mordrem before? If so, what was your first encounter like?

What are your personal reasons for fighting Mordie and his minions? (Participants don’t have to mention this in class if they are not comfortable.).

What are your favorite skills to use when fighting Mordrem?

OOC Notes: This event is both a lore class and an exercise in character development. It is open to RPers of all skills and abilities! Everyone is welcome! Stories and ideas shared in class don’t have to be serious and factual. They can be humorous and entertaining too. Feel free to exaggerate your character’s tale.

If you’re the type of RPer who integrates the in-game skills with their RP, use your character to share actual tips and tricks with the other roleplayers and gamers who stop by to listen. Make sure to use ((double parenthesis)) or [[ double brackets ]] for OOC information!

EVENT RULES:

(1) Be respectful to everyone.

(2) If you disagree with the lore information stated during the event, use your character to express the disagreement or whisper the person OOC when the event is over. Roleplayers will be in-character (IC) during the event.

(3) Original Guild Wars 2 Roleplay characters only. That means NO Commander of the Pact characters, NO Anime characters, NO characters based off of media outside of GW2, and NO NPC characters (like Trahearne, Scarlet Briar, Caithe, Queen Jennah, etc). If you ignore this rule, you may end up being ignored by other roleplayers. It is a taboo in the GW2 Roleplay Community to play anything other than an original RP character. One of the objectives of GW2 Roleplay is to tell the stories of the characters who aren’t part of the game’s main storyline.

Who to contact for a taxi: KTA.6502

I will post IP shard and other taxi information in this thread on the day of the event.

Apologies for the short notice. I’ve been busy setting up this event for my guild. I hope to see everyone on Wednesday.

told you, RAIDs &Elite Specs

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Some how I told you so, just doesnt quite say it.

but Raids are coming. I told you all that the new Elite Specializations were built and balanced around the new Raid group content and not the Vanilla content.

To which I say: Bring it on!

I’m not afraid of Raid content in this game or any game for that matter. Raids are always optional content. In WoW, I never raided and spent more time with the RP community instead. The major problem in WoW: The Raiding community over there was too hard to get into. It also required too much dedication and time (Read: Way too hardcore for people with busy schedules). Plus, it was heavily elitist.

In GW2, I had fun doing the mini-raids in LS2: Duke Barradin’s Statue, the World Summit, and the centaur boss in Point of No Return. I wish the fights could of allowed more than 5 people. If the Raids for GW2 are similar to the LS2 events or better, I say “Go for it!” Plus, the community in this game is a zillion times nicer and more mature than WoW’s. As long as the newbies and returning vets have easy access to the content, I don’t think there is anything to worry about.

I’m going to love doing raids with my PvX and RP-PvX guilds! (squee)

How to report AFKers?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Being AFK in PvE areas is not a reportable offense.

If you think they are using a bot or something to stay logged in, you can report that. But being ask and them moving themselves isn’t a reportable offense. People can go afk for a number of reasons (waiting on a guild event, bathroom, food, etc) and just manually move their character to stay logged in.

The situation I’m describing is similar to Battle for Lion’s Arch, where AFKers stayed on the map with the goal of getting free loot. The players I saw last night stayed in large groups within the events circles, tagged the enemies once, then went AFK. During one VW run, the trolls tagged the Mangler champ once, then moved to the side, leaving myself and a handful of active players to burn down the champ ourselves. When the champ treasure box appears, then the former AFKers go pick up their (mostly free) loot.

The frustrating part is that these AFKers scale up the events which makes it harder on everyone who wants to play legit.

I can’t tell if someone is botting or not. I don’t know if these guys actions are the result of botting. What I do know is that these players are being griefers and trolls.

EDIT: I do know for a fact that Anet cracked down on AFKers during Battle for Lion’s Arch (Living Story Season 1). I’d love to report the guys who are AFKing in SW, but I need to know which option to select or if I have to catch these guys on video to report them.

Yaaaaayyyy can’t wait to not have a Halloween event this year! Seriously? Ruin the best holiday event in gw2?!

I don’t give a kitten about playing dress up with halloween costumes

HoT > some holiday event. you think an expac releases every year like some kids holiday event? Please. HoT is way more important than running around LA playing dressup

I’d rather wait longer for a bug free expansion that’s polished and have new LAs first Halloween event… an event mind you that is EASILY the most popular and heavily played by the GW2 playerbase.

You think some silly halloween event will attract players to this game over a new expansion?
What do you think has a greater chance of attracting players back to this game that took a break/quit? playing dress up for a weekend or an EXPANSION release?
Who said it won’t be polished? bug free? in 2015? find me a game/xpac that releases bug free in this age of technology lmao.

Nice logic you have. I’m glad you don’t make decisions for this game.

You clearly have never done a gw2 halloween. It always spikes a resurgence of players. It lasts two weeks… not a weekend. And even last year’s rehashed content had TONS of people excited and playing…

This game has gotten a lot of new players in the last few days. Last night, I had to teach PUGs how to play SW. The newbies will be all over the Halloween content and farming it along with us Vets.

How to report AFKers?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Tonight, there were a bunch of AFKers on three different SW maps on the NA megaserver. These players were purposely parking their characters at the forts and other SW events with the intention scaling up events and causing the map to fail. Worse, these players clogged the maps so the active players couldn’t taxi new people in.

I didn’t see an option for reporting AFKers in Player Conduct Report window. Should I just report them as bots? Should I take a screenshot or video and send it to support? How do I report stuff like this?

When did Anet say it will be released around christmas. Last time I checked they said it will be out in 2015 they didn’t give the range of months it could be released.

Let’s see here… We only have 4 months left in 2015. The most common months to release a game are September or November (just before Black Friday). If Anet wanted to release HoT in September, they would of announced the release date this week.

My bet? HoT will be released in November.

I’m basing this off of what I know about the gaming industry.

ANET: Thx for the Special Reveals...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Dear Anet,

Thanks for revealing the Warrior & Thief specializations because that means there are only TWO (Count them: TWO) specializations left! I have a feeling Ranger Druid will be revealed next which means Engie will be the very last. But hey, we’re getting somewhere. Right?

My hope is that Engie will have the best reveal. I’ve been waiting for word on my class’s changes since January. The class also had two major nerfs during the last few months: Celestial Rifle Engie is useless in sPvP while Turret Engie got nerfed in all areas of the game(PvE, PvP, WvW). I hope the Engie reveal makes up for these major losses. I really, really, really hope that Celestial Rifle and Turret Engie aren’t repackaged as part of the specialization because that would seriously suck after waiting for 8 months straight.

Anyways, thanks for the reveal!

—Lapis

To all of those who keep telling me to “be patient”: See what happens when people politely ask Anet to reveal certain specializations? We have had no word about the Ranger & Engie specializations since January. We only had pictures and only scant info about the Druids to go on. Plus, politely asking Anet to reveal certain things in the new xpac is a way of showing interest in their work. Let that be a lesson to all of you.

Shattering Blow Caused Me to Shelve GW2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Many people have leveled multiple characters and maxed out content. Those doing RP are working on or finishing up their Pre-HoT storylines. It’s understandable that people are burned out. In WoW, this is called “pre-expansion blues”. This is a great time to take a break. Try out another MMO while you wait for HoT. You might change your mind about Tempest after you return from break.

Can we please see the new legendarys? :D

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Again, another thing Anet promised when HoT was first announced. Sadly, we have more info on WoW’s new artifact weapons (aka WoW legendaries ) than the new GW2 legendaries. I’m eager to see the new stuff too.

Is pre-purchasing HoT worth it?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

Answer: It depends if on what kind of guild you are in.

If you are in a competitive, hard core guild, ask the leader(s) if the guild will be delving into HoT content as soon as the xpac releases. If you are told yes, pre-purchase a copy of the expansion ASAP.

If you are in a roleplaying guild, find out if HoT is relevant to the guild’s storyline. Also ask if the guild has plans for HoT. On the NA megaserver, the only RP guilds I’ve seen with Pre-HoT storylines are all of the pact guilds, a couple Sylvari guilds, two multi-racial crusader-style guilds, and an Inquest guild.

I’m not sure about the status of the human and Charr RP guilds. Most human and charr groups tend to have their stories focus on Divinity’s Reach, Lion’s Arch, Ebonhawke, and Ascalon. Mordremoth is the furthest from their mind. (Shocking, huh?)

Most RP guilds on the EU megaserver haven’t expressed plans on using the HoT content in their storylines. I’m basing that off of the storylines I’ve seen coming from the community since HoT was announced last January. I could be wrong tho. If you are in an European RP guild, it doesn’t hurt to ask the leader(s) about the guild’s plans and if you should pre-purchase HoT.

Most casual and social guilds allow their players to take their time with the game. Some groups plan to avoid the crowd on launch day. There is a good chance you won’t need to pre-purchase HoT if your in one of the laid-back guilds.

So there you have it! If your guild isn’t doing anything with HoT right away, you can wait until after release to purchase the xpac. If not, then it would be wise to pre-purchase in order to get access to the new content on launch day.

I agree with OP. Where is the Druid class we were promised at the beginning of this year? This class should of been part of the last beta weekend, but it wasn’t included. People have a right to be impatient at this point.

Does ANYONE think a plea like this has any impact on their decision making or scheduling process?

These things are picked out days if not weeks in advance. And frankly they aren’t primarily concerned with advertising to us here on the forums. They’re picking their battles in the videogames news cycle to bring in new players.

It’s called “expressing interest”. Yes, these posts send the message to Anet to bring out the other goodies they have in store. We’re waiting for them! They have been taking too long rolling out the info on the new class specializations, and Anet has plans to release HoT this year. Worse, we know more about WoW’s new upcoming expansion, Legion, than we do about HoT. That’s the truth.

The argument that you don’t care about the other elite specializations is irrelevant, other people are interested in them. They’ll get to Engineer eventually.

I played through Beta Weekend, but I can’t give a non-biased assessment of the other specializations. I feel that people who main Mesmer, Guardian, Elementalist, and Necro will be able to give better feedback about the changes to their classes. As for Rev, I can’t seem to get myself to like the new class.

Maybe it’s because I have trouble playing these other classes. I’m a complete noob when it comes to Mesmer, Guardian, Ele, Necro, and Rev.

I’m an expert when it comes to the Engineer class. The other class I know well is Ranger.

Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners…

Awesome sauce! I didn’t this this bit of info earlier. Thanks for the info!

Now I’ll be able to buy two expansions at the same time with my Best Buy card instead of buying each xpac on my BoA card a month or two apart. That makes things alot easier.

I have to buy the expansion for multiple active accounts (one for NA and one for EU). Right now, I only have enough room on my Bank of America account to purchase one digital copy. I can’t use my Best Buy store card to buy the digital version. This sucks!

EDIT: I’m also going to add that I get more rewards with my Best Buy store card. That’s why I prefer to buy HoT straight from Best Buy itself. I hope Anet releases a boxed version.

Best class for PvE Boss Farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kta.6502

kta.6502

A class with a Weapon Skill 1?

Nah…. Go with the class that has a flamethrower and a rifle…

I usually fight PvE bosses on my Beserker Engie while listening to the song “Burn, baby, burn!” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_sY2rjxq6M). I makes sure to use Beserker trinkets and weapons in addition to exotic / ascended Beserker armor. Engie also has a trait called Juggernaut (Firearms #8). This trait stacks might while using the flamethrower. For some bosses, like the Vinewrath champions, you want to use rifles and activate the Rifled Barrels trait (Firearms #4). That trait gives the weapon extra range.

If you want to fight Tequatl, you will need Solder’s armor (aka PVT armor).

Playing Engineer requires that a player learn how to use combos in battle. You will need to learn how to use the life-saving Healing Turret combos. How to do that is explained in this youtube video: https://youtu.be/iKt5GUW1uqA?t=1m8s

If you decide to stick to playing Ele, you should get exotic (Soldier’s) or ascended (Ahamid) armor. You will also want to use only ranged attacks on bosses. As an ele, it helps to hang out with the Guardians for extra protection. (The job of the Guardian is to protect the other players).

Time range on Sylvari Cycles

in Lore

kta.6502

How about this:

Dawn: 4am to 10 am
Noon: 10 am to 4 pm
Dusk: 4 pm to 10 pm
Night: 10 pm to 4 am

I personally think of dawn starting at 4 am. Dusk starting at 4pm also makes sense because that when the sun starts moving towards the horizon.

With the current system, Dawn starting at midnight is very unrealistic. Dusk starting at noon time doesn’t make sense either.

I really enjoy the idea of fixing the cycles to adhere to how a Sylvari would see them.

Technically, I said the same thing there as I said here. And it’s the same topic, so why should my opinion change?

Well, you could add something that you forgot to say back on 2RP. Just a suggestion.

Back on guildwars2roleplayers.com (aka 2RP), I did suggest to the OP to post the idea here, so the devs can see it and consider adding it to the game’s lore. Devs, what do you think of the OP’s idea?

I do however agree that an option to remove special effects should be added anyways, for those people with lower performance computers who want to participate in a zerg.

I agree with you on this point.

It seems as though something else is going on here. Mobs of players don’t just appear out of nowhere, target a random person, and spam all of their skills to clutter their screen. And then repeat this process often enough to disrupt gameplay time periods spanning days, weeks or more. At least, I’ve never seen this happen since GW2 launch…

TC, my home world for this account, is the unofficial RP world for the NA megaserver. It’s a tier 1 WvW server that has competitive players alongside the roleplayers.

I suspect that the trolls are guesting on TC with the goal of harassing RPers. During one incident, I recognized a Blackgate guild tag on one group of trolls. I do enough WvW and have read the Guild Recruitment Reddit enough to recognize some guild tags from other T-1 servers.

Somewhere along the way there must have been an argument or confrontation with these skill spammers that are causing them to target the OP…

I suppose victims of RL bullying or RL crimes bring the problems upon themselves, huh? Just think about that for a moment.

Trolls are like RL bullies. They don’t need a reason to attack anyone. They do it because they can get away with it. You can be minding your own business and get spammed. A lot of the Skill Spamming I’ve witnessed or experienced is random.

I block trolls when I see them engaged in their behavior. It doesn’t matter if they’re trolling me or other people.

If it’s a person I know, I just say “Quit Trolling” once before adding them to my block list.

How would turning off spell effects stop someone from spamming a greatsword attack in your face?

If I could turn off the special effects, I would only see the character moving to attack or jumping on me. I just wouldn’t see the flashy special effects. Plus it would be easier to right click on the person and choose “block”.

Another advantage: I could also get screenshots and send the info to the offender’s guild leader (if the troll is part of a guild with a no-trolling policy). Interesting story: There was a thief troll who constantly attacked groups with melee attacks. The guy was part of a social guild on the TC server. People within one group got screenshots and sent the info to the player’s guild. The offender was immediately g-kicked. Then the thief troll joined a WvW guild and the same thing happened. I haven’t see the guy since September. Either he quit or he got blacklisted on the server.

Most of the time, trolls prefer eles and engies for skill spamming. I’ve seen some trolls climb up somewhere (like the command post in Camp Resolve) before spamming spells or grenades on players who are nearby. Trolls use that tactic so the others can’t see who is attacking them without moving the camera. It also makes it difficult for the victims to right click and block the trolls.

As long as you’re in the open world, there’ll always be a way to annoy you. Cake gun spam?

Cake gun spam… LOL! At least the cake gun gives people a sugar rush boost! XD It’s also alot easier to ignore tiny cakes on the ground.

Turning off the special effects would possibly even be a good idea in certain fights with tons of people participating :X I imagine performance in large events like, say, the frozen maw would be significantly improved if you’d just disable the flashy parts of combat. Not so much a problem for me (I maintain a stable 10 FPS in those fights :P) but it would be a good idea for people who don’t have the most powerful PCs. shrugs

Yep! It would be extremely useful in WvW fights.

kta, first you post problem with player spamming skill make harrassing in no combat area, than you change story and defend player who do like pvp or rp; which side you are in?

No I haven’t. My request is the same.

To clarify: I want an option to turn off the special effects that come from the skill spamming. The spamming whites out the screen. It causes the FPS to drop.

The skill spamming I’ve witnessed has repeatedly taken place in non-combat areas (cities, Camp Resolve, etc). IT’S UNWANTED BEHAVIOR. I’ve already listed ways that myself and others have tried to remedy the situation with the tools we have at hand.

In another post, I reassured another player that I wasn’t referring to Roleplayers (or PvPers) who like to try to start combat. I’m on the TC and PS servers. I know the RP culture on both servers. Roleplayers don’t skill spam. RP combat takes place only in chat. Some use a skill to illustrate what their character is doing, but it’s not a continuous chain of special effects that goes on for a few minutes.

PvPers, on the other hand, go to the Mists if they’re looking for a true fight. PvPers don’t skill spam in non-combat areas.

I’m referring to people who excessively spam skills on others for no reason, without permission, and in areas where there is nothing to fight.

sometimes people like to roleplay that they are dueling. I dont see a problem with that. its fun actually.

It’s not dueling if the other group isn’t fighting back. Plus, it’s well known in the RP community that players who want a fight MUST get others permission BEFORE initiating combat. This goes for both Tarnished Coast (NA megaserver) or Piken Square (EU megaserver).

The PvP community usually takes their stuff to the Mists (the PvP maps or private arenas).

Here’s another thing: It only takes a few min to type a message in Say chat to get the others’ permission.

Just because one sees a group, doesn’t mean they’re up for a fight. Not all of the people on the megaserver like PvP or RP.

DarkSyze— I’m referring to areas where there isn’t any combat (the cities, Camp Resolve, etc).

The only solution i see to this problem is for arena net to restrict all attack skill from attivate in no combat area. Square Enix and other have that in their game, arena net can do same.

That’s possible too.

Anet seems to be focused on innovative programming when it comes to GW2. This game uses original coding, so it may be possible for the devs to add an option in the Options Window to turn off special effects for those who don’t want to see it. The skill spammers can do their thing while players who want to talk can have piece of mind.

It doesn’t hurt to ask.

In GW2, I’ve seen trolls get into group and use their class skills on folks in non-combat areas. One person casts a skill (like the Ele’s Tornado) on a group of players who are just talking. Then their fellow troll will cast another skill just before the first troll’s skill ends. This keeps going until each troll in the group has used a skill on victim group. Alot of times, the screen whites out before the attack ends.

Dear Anet,

I’d like to seen an option to turn off special effects from other players attacks. Why? Because of the Skill Spammers.

For those who don’t know: Skill spamming is when people are continually using special effect attacks (like the Elementalist’s fire attacks and Tornado) on players who are talking to each other in non-combat areas. Most of the time, the Skill Spammer is an elementalist or an engineer. Sadly, I’ve occasionally seen Warriors, Guardians, and Mesmers spamming their skills on others. Skill spammers are often in a group and performing attack-after-attack on players to the point where the screen turns white. Their attacks also cause massive FPS drops.

Things myself and others have tried to remedy the situation:

—Telling them to stop

— Silence (aka “Refusing to feed the trolls”)

— Blocking them (and hoping the Megaserver will place the harassers in another shard. Sometimes it works to prevent future attacks. Other times, I see the attackers on the same map even though I’ve blocked them.)

—Changing locations (This works to stop some skill spammers. Sadly, there are a few who follow and continue the attacks)

Help us, Anet. You’re our only hope!

LA Becomes Sylvari Internment Camp

My response is this:

As a child, my parents asked me a question, “If your friend jumps over a cliff, will you follow them?”

“Of course not!” I answered, “I don’t want to die.”

“Then that is how you must act if someone wants you to engage in evil.”

As players, we don’t have to accept the devs storylines or their rules. During Season 1, a lot of RP guilds rejected the Scarlet storyline in favor of other (mostly human) stories.

GUILDS, put anti-racism rules in place right now. I know some groups have already started to do this. If Anet does add this sickening junk like to the game, we don’t have to allow it in our groups EVER. We have control over who joins our guilds. If a player engages in anything mimicking kittensm (pro-Hilter philosophy), ISIS, or any other hate group, that person should be g-kicked.

I don’t care if the racism is fictional or not. Racism is discrimination (a taboo in US American society). It makes other feel singled out and uncomfortable. It takes the fun out of the game. Roleplaying Ferguson, Guantanemo, or any other hate crime ISN’T FUN. To see what I mean, replace the the word Sylvari with black people, Hispanics, Jews, Muslims, or any stereotyped group.

It’s simple to re-write a Concentration Camp scene. Just DM a rescue scene. If you need real-life inspiration, remember that many people helped Jewish folks escape the concentration camps during WW2.

In my RP groups, I don’t DM Cthulu. Nor do I play DM vs Player. My goal as a guild officer is to help my players have their characters triumph over evil. Ever since Trahearne’s spotlight theft, my gaming goal has been to return the hero status to the player.

We players came here to take on the roles of heroes. Racism in any character isn’t heroic.
