What seems to be the best dungeon build?

I actualy run 25 20 0 25 0 for free weakness on poison from chocking gas as well as uber dodge. I dont run stealth to begin with (dont like it) and use sword/pistol in a build entirely based on dodging to proc might and evading strikes XD.. For the sake of irony i get a good 10% damage when foe has a condition and 10% damage when my endurance is not full.

Going 25 in deadly art realy do can be rewarding altrought im studying if i shouldnt put those 10 trait into critical strike instead or trade a little of my acrobatic tree for actualy situationnal damage (10% at near all time for 30% very situational damage unless you Auto attack this sounds somewhat outrageous). At that point you trading up + 15% damage at near all time for a + 20% under 50% hp and +10% when you have near maximum initiative. Since i run pistolwhip its realy controversial weither or not to do it.

Soon they will also make it so that lupicus falcon punch player in melee range for a ten thousand damage and that the move cant be dodged but has a fairly good tell yet is somewhat quick because they looking for random ways of making stuff harder.

Also pls make it so that king adelbern foefire cover 6 area instead of one so that we can keep standing right on him and take more no damaging attack :P

Hey id like you to make tequatl slightly harder so that i can keep NOT DOING IT more.

Since we at it why is there a fight in arah all we got to do is get reflector and watch the boss kill himself

Please nerf more possible unknown exploit in dredge fractal so that we keep not using imaginary jump puzzle to skip half the dungeon wich btway isnt actualy a real skip anyway or hiding behind a pipe to force the boss to fight us alone

Please make it so we can no longuer exploit cliffside mobs unability to mass respawn when you ignore the X we need this part to be totaly impossible for a team wich doesnt run two suicidal fool at both seal to serve as meat shield while a third runs the hammer and has to be switched every now and then cuz of stacking 8D

My thief is S/P acrobatics so yea i know and understand the move mechanics and as it is right now it would actualy help the build that the stun and the flurry be separated into two defrent effect. There is a slight time between the bash and the flurry where you are vulnerable to hits and making this ability a two tap move would reduce the impact of that lag time unlike sword/dagger wich was 100% dodging when using its 3 before they made it into a 2 move combo.

theres a way to run flashing blade actualy without running it on evade

The principe of the elite is to make foe unable to strike you due to the light reflecting on your blades right in their eye. You practicaly blinding them with a shine of light to prevent them from striking back. How the elite could work is that for 15 second every of your auto attack cause blindness to mobs in a 300 ft radius. That way we keep the cool principe behind the flashing blade without making it a constant dodge. How it would be designed would look like…

Flashing blade
type: trick
Cooldown: 210 second
Effect: for 15 second all of your attack apply blindness to every ennemy target in range
range: 360 ft

In theory this works the same way necro blind spam in plague form is done and allow you to strike a target with impunity for a set amount of time and this for as long as you can keep hiting it.

well adding the toughness penetration to pets and some of the ranged weapon could be the first step, adding some toughness to the mob could be the next one. Maybe they will keep the old mob with the same armor level but they could actualy rise the toughness level off….

1. golems
2. rock based elemental and monster
3. Icebrood
4. branded
5. world bosses wich actualy are big enought and potentialy have a high armor level such as tequatl and claw of jormag.

What im proposing here is a somewhat serious nerf to physical damage WITHOUT nerfing the physical damage

In the game already exist a specy of monster called the rock dog. It just happen that because the unreal armor level of the monster condition damage actualy kill it faster then raw physical damage. While increasing the armor level of all monster would definitively Give a value to condition damage in pve some build dont run on critical damage and or deals lesser damage in comparison so here i come with a theory to fill the gap between condition damage and physical damage wich is actualy called…

Piercing damage – This damage Ignore 20% of the target toughness

The principe is that Minionmancer and pet user will highly be weakened should we nerf the effectiveness of pve physical damage by increasing the monsters armor so what we should do is make pets and summon able to forego it with their attack. + some weapon deals so little damage to begin with they aint actualy usefull, one way to make for it could be to give them the option of the piercing damage (such as longbow for ranger, rifles for enginer and pistol for thief because yea dual pistol thief dont deal damage at all to begin with there need to be incentive to actualy run it in pve for other reasons then just avoiding melee range in fight)

By adding piercing damage and increasing armors we reduce the overall effectiveness of tanking, Increase the value of pet builds, revalue some unused weapon and actualy nerf critical physical damage user in pve.

NOTE: It will likely be possible for ranger to both run the piercing damage longbow and berserker build at the same time. However that build will only be highly effective against well armored unit while it will be doing ordinary damage against the rest. A 20% toughness ignore wont work if the target doesnt have toughness to begin with.

[PvP] Lich form is overpowered

Lich form is one of the worst elite necro possess and thus for 3 reason

1. If speced right a Death shroud necro can achieve the same damage as lich form with life blast in near permanance.
2. Lich form CANNOT self heal
3. Lich form doesnt actualy have a fear mechanics and is just a big lets get killed button in your spell bar you might as well run flesh golem.

I say this as an actual pure Death shroud necro damager, Lich form isnt even worth using to begin with and id likely want to get it buffed so that it can actualy heal or defend itself before i even run it again.

Id rather risk the wrath of the noobs and the idiot rather the refuse a boost out of fear of something that may not happen. Proceed with the fix anet just please be carefull as not to wreck the spec doing it.

Are ranger affraid of getting a buff because if they do people will start to rage about their loot bag behing able to fight back?! Are we affraid to get buffed in pvp because some nobody is gunna QQ that we are to strong?! Well know what before they even call on a nerf for us those guys should be nerfed in the first place for behing so hard to kill to begin with that we need a buff to claim the same level of effectiveness as the warrior in the game. Give me more power! If those guys have to complain about us then maybe they should look at what they can do to beat us in the first place. Noobs need to die and learn rather then cry about another player outplaying them trought talent and actual real play and i wont rest until the very last warrior is trampled and screaming under the treat of a poisoned dagger. Thief deserve to inspire fear, we are the shadowy class that play the cheap trick and scare people of running alone. A guy seeing me shouldnt be saying HEY ANOTHER LOOTBAG, but rather oh darn i need to keep watch on this one or ill likely die.

What the hell anet! why can SHE actualy mount a golem and i cant! ive made my asura solely for the purpose of riding a golem let me ride my golem already as a new racial class like idk golemancer. Why not actualy add racial class to the game? Like

Pah tier 2? i run tier 3 in a pink/purple fashion with that haircut and blond hair.

As i told you you aint alone in the world and im as much a daughter of fashion as you are! The moment i get a hold of my computer ill be flashing you out with fashionable character pictures.

Purple eye doesnt match with blue armor o_O you need to change that color!

Also your armor doesnt match with your hair attire color at all. you need to work on that.

(i spend several hour of my play time toying with the color tools and revising my character faces i think creating my first character took me 5 delete / reset attempt as well as a thousand of color test xD )

Since a dev so kindly responded to this topic i will ask 1 question

Will ranger be actualy viable as a heavy damage spec other then with swords and could the development team use our META build in dungeon when they actualy test their own features. Or so that way they can see what is going wrong for themselves. Everytime you guys did a test none of you seemed to actualy know how to play your class to begin with x.x makes everyone on the forum starts to question if you know what you are doing. To actualy feel like your players and understand your players you need to stand in their shoes.

Btway peoples i did do the Beta test for TESO. I wont reveal anything important however save for the fact it kept many of the lovely stuff elder scrolls game hold so dear and doesnt entirely feels like an MMO.

Ive played guild wars since guild wars 1 prophecies I believe in ANET and i know that ill still be playing reguardless of if i buy TESO or not. Ive always been cheering for Anet philosophy of a free sub buy and play game wich included freedom of choice and build creativity and will keep cheering and telling people to buy this game.

People complain about viability of builds however i know Anet cares for its community and will always work toward achieving a better game. Give them time and keep believing.

The game needs a major change that will stay and be significant to keep on par with the competition. Hasnt anet achieved those challange before? If they mean the change will be significant it will be. They had a year to prepare the content in the lab. It wont just be a fix to some mechanics it will likely be entirely new class skills and combat. Maybe well actualy get to see a gladiatorial dungeon style instance wich will put the emphase on surviving the longuest as possible and will reward the player based on achieved time! We might see dueling pvp or 5 v 5 death match the same as Guild wars 1. A Total rebirth of the random arena in a guild wars 2 fashion.

Builds are to restrictive due to the very small number of possible skill and utility. But if anet adds new utility and new traits we likely will expend further.

Traits choice are limited by their viability and either should either be revamper either balanced around. I know you guys working on it keep at it and well soon get a balance .

Many in game mechanics cannot be repaired (aka turrets and pets) to the player perfect expectation but can still be improved to mend up the mortal wound to something more looking like a scar at worse. Ive seen how beast mastery was improved in guild wars one with significant upgrade and im sure you guys will manage throught.

I will likely buy TESO. But i WONT stop playing Guild Wars 2 anytime soon. This games do deserve a place in one computer files and is worth to keep playing.

i have 25 in acrobatics my question is why you run 30 for when you could put the 5 last elsewhere cept i guess that since you also run the 0 0 0 0 30 you kind of cant put them in crit strike or in deadly art without taking something useless. Since i always swim around 3 to 10 initiative i dont realy have a need for the steal tree. Now im pondering if you wouldnt be better puting those 5 point into critical strike instead for opportunist. Not my business to tell people what to do what ill still put in my analysis when it comes to stat win and loss

While bountifull thief can be usefull for vigor along with trill of the crime to self proc fury deadly art gives a good + 10% damage already just from having a random condition, if i also proc vulnerability and a bonus damage on dual attack I likely can highly increase the damage my pistol whip does (thats without counting in the power bonus) by a large amount and my average damage as well. If party dont give fury i can always proc it via furious retaliation but its a 30 second cooldown and it works only if target is at 50% hp.

I guess while your build has more chance to crit since of fury and the ability to self proc more vigor while stealing boons you actualy need to sacrifice a certain amount of damage.

I take it you are condition damage?

Power-based. I run S/P + SB, with 0/10/0/30/30 and Lyssa Runes.

Having no trait in the power line must be quite harmfull to your total damage.
30 in acrobatics serve little use but allow for assasin reward initiative on swap or a little more vitality. I dont recall having initiative problem right now.

Is a backstab build viable in dungeons?

while AA deals similar damage thing is it doesnt proc you evade so while you auto attacking you are also vulnerable. Most people cope with it using blinding field but blinding wont work against a boss if the so called boss hits everyone at the same time (blind blocks only one hit, and cleave gets trought it) so i guess PW works better against boss then against trash. If they actualy make PW a two move skill likely well Blind then AA then stun and when blind is finished use PW because the weak point of PW is the time interval between the flurry and the stun. Small reminder is that some boss needs to be stacked and that you wont be able to backstab them without ruining the whole fight, at this point you can use dagger AA and risk your life for a damage augmentation (at this point it all comes down to trusting your teamate will pull their share and you wont get hit to much) or use SP PW and likely stay alive while dealing fairly good damage because youl evade about everything.

How much Toughness you need depends entirely on what you are doing, IMO. I need a moderate amount as a heavy Acrobatics Thief, because my primary survival mechanic is evasion. The ~2400 that I have is mostly so that I don’t get insta-blicked during evasion downtime, if I make a mistake, and to cut down in incidental damage in large fights.

On the other hand, P/D Thieves wearing full Dire can easily top 2900-3000+ Armor, which makes sense because they largely are tanking hits with their face, relying on stealth for healing, and fight via attrition.

It’s all about what you’re doing, and the risk that you find acceptable. It took me about a month and a half of roaming/zerging before I settled on my current mix (I used to have more health and less Armor).

I take it you are condition damage?

signet of malice active heal kind of sucks, Unless you run might on signet its not even viable to begin with because you wont hit on every strike (especialy because PW is stationary and people arent total idiots as to stand into it at all time). Withdrawal heals better on active and provide an escape while actualy behing an instant cast wich isnt the case of the signet
It realy depends on how much damage you expect to take and how much you expect to hit your targets.

Well long as basicaly the runes are damage oriented were fine. Your supose to run this build as glassy geared as possible (who needs armors… we got evade!) and in the worst case you may trade a little precision for vitality from using valkiry but if you actualy good enought as to nearly never getting it it will be of minor consequance weither you got 16k hp or 13k.

what about strenght rune? Might duration power increase and bonus damage when on might doesnt sound like such a bad idea. Ogre would be a + in pvp im not so sure in pve.

Why that? I mean Acrobatic trait line give vita but you gain a insane dodge and +10% damage when not full on endurance as well as might and vigor. Between acrobatics and shadow art i think choice should be obvious.

I mean i dont run stealth at all fight entirely on dodge and damage with sword pistolwhip/infiltrator. Works well anytime, altrought i guess i cant escape a 50 player zerg the same as a D/P would but i didnt want to run stealth in the first place.

If your so concerned about your survivability you might consider running acrobatics 25 instead of stealth. Acrobatics provide vitality insane dodging and a good +10% damage when your endurance is not full so its a fair trade as long as you also run it with deathly art and critical strike

I personnal find running 25 20 0 20 0 proc me great survivability along with fairly good damage and while the build doesnt rely on stealth it still is way more viable then it when it comes to fighting a target head to head. Today they cry about permastealth tomorow they will cry about how i evade better then a ranger and yet deal twice the damage.

Nonetheless either you run pure zerk either you run a venomshare condition damage build. The only defrence is how you will run it

Building a weaponset that is only good for PvE (and not even the best there) makes no sense.

Do you use S/P in PvE and WvW? If not then listen to the people that main it. It really is fine as it is right now.

sword pistol is wonderfull right now.. However id like to remind you that separating the stun and the flurry might not be as much of a nerf as you might think and thus for 3 reason

1. well still be able to chain the two move togueter even if they are separated. and prety much at the same speed
2. Pistol whip will now proc an easy low cost interupt wich you can pull in for nearly nothing!
3. Youl now be able to place your flurry at the right moment (like when the target is webed by a venom), so better damage overall for every thief in pvp and better initiative management.

In the end id say its not a nerf but rather a buff

Just gonna leave this here for you and this. Take the time and read my post if you are going to quote me.

Well hello there

I tried checking for a build topic about acrobatic thief in a fencer style on the forum using the research but could find none so i posted one here
This build is about behing evading hits and using quick but damaging strike while keeping yourself unreachable the same as a fencer fight.

How to run it: While dagger/pistol rely on stealth to deal its damage this build rely on pistol whip and infiltrator in order to hit. As a general rule you will be teleporting to your target to immobilize it before using pistol whip but you will quickly run out of initiative if you constantly spam it.

To avoid this situation use roll for initiative once you run out of it but try and burn time down using your dodge between strike to build might up while allowing your initiative to come back in. Thing is if done right this build will be evading strike about 80% of the time at least because you will either be using pistol whip and evading, doing a backward barrel roll and taking a distance, or dodging around (this build has a very good endurance regeneration rate + you can recover all endurance using the signet so you will be able to dodge way more often then the other player would)

While you may think that using a backward dodge will hinder your dps keep in mind that you can always teleport back to the target using infiltrator or steal. While condition can be a problem you may use infiltrator to clean that nasty 25 stack or activate your signet to cure it while recovering your endurance. The elite is somewhat of a questioning because as much as we like basilisk venom between the time you use it and the cast time of pistol whip the guy will have long broke out of stun so i subjest using thieve guild instead of whirl as your elite because it both mess up the ennemy mind but also cause a tons of crowd control blind and a fairly good amount of damage.

Con:

1. This build may have issue fighting against well and staff necro bunkers because its based on melee fighting and cant dodge the necro marks

2. No stealth at all, this build relies entirely on teleporting and evading so if caugh in the middle of a zerg you better hope you got your long range evade ready. However its quite easy to position yourself toward the exit then double backward flip using both roll for initiative and the healing roll to cover a large distance. Using sword dagger and shortbow can help fix that issue.

Pro:

1. Likely one of the build with the most dodge in the game (Eat your heart rangers i can dodge and evade twice as more then you do)

2. Quite a good amount of damage due to pistol whip wich can easily take down a lot of your target health and will cleave trought a mob well. People tend to dodge but you will still damage them quite a bit before they get out of the attack range. You also got the lovely blind from pistol 5 to help finish up downed targets.

3. condition removal is spammable at will and you may teleport in and out of combat

IN PVE:

While this build doesnt proc any actual party utility (thieve never realy proc any anyway) you may sometime make yourself usefull by shifting the signet of assasination to shadow refuge smoke wall and other stuff depending on the encounter. If you got a party wich can easily party proc the 25 might, assasination signet still gives you a somewhat decent bonus to power but you may consider switching it to a party utility.

Because running thief doesnt always mean wearing black clothes and a dagger while behing invisible.

you guys deal more then enought damage. it sooooooo doesnt mather at all. so yea you get to fight like 10 to 15 more second. THE HORRRRRRROR (laugh maniacaly)

I agree they have a load of joke weapon thats why those weapon needs a serious counterpart. Same goes for the serious weapon wich got no joke alternative.

Edit: ah seems my topic was renamed oh well this works to. I guess Anet doesnt like people making out of game referance joke.

This post is about legendary weapon skin, their actual utility in the game and the possible variation the devs could add. So far when you run a legendary you are stuck to a single possible skin per weapon and either the skin is utherly funny based (aka unicorn browny bow, disco ball etc) either its super serious (aka Twilight sunrise, eternity)

What i propose here is Anet adds a new legendary for each weapon to fill the gap so here are exemple

New hammer = baseball bat

New greatsword = a lightsaber

New Rifle = a toy gun that look like a minigun and play a similar animation

New sword = Likely another variant of the lightsaber

New axe = A woodcuting axe with a lumberjack gimmick joke

New mace = Something that looks realy epic… like idk youve seen the mace of molag bal in elder scroll? We need something that will look treatening

New staff = While rainbow is cute its not what one could call very serious… there need to be a darker counterpart to bifrost

New longbow = Give us back the stormbow, shooting lightning arrow would be cool

New shortbow = likely something based on the wind and its speed i easily see a gimmick here of a bow faster then the wind

New focus = Something serious, Having a planetary system in your hand doesnt strike me the same as what would be if i was using well idk… a black hole? Or an energy ball?

New Spear = give us voltaic spear back

New pistol = hey what about a desert eagle skin that looks pristine as an alternative to quip, id definitively like to look like a character from an action movie

New dagger = ok, a dagger made of fire is somewhat a little off world what about something that looks like some edged weapon from the underworld, something with a reaper theme.

steal when traited can be cooldown reduced to 17 second max. If they reduce it further well start seeing thief using Mug as a mean to heal in battle for full life. I already heal myself from mug so by the 6 dont make it worse.

heck is backstab isnt even the only viable build. Run sword and you can score kill even without stealth. People overestimate backstab based on the assumption that thieve are only good for stealthing, Well i dont run away from fights i jump right in the moment i see a single target or a brawl.

I run 25 20 0 25 0 with NO stealth dodge heal and roll for initiative signet of the assasin and cond cure signet (yea i like how cond cure also proc me full endurance regen and a passive bonus while keeping the cooldown relatively low). And heck is i actualy KILL people without much of an effort by using infiltration and pistolwip while running a super glass cannon and yet i aint so glassy as to be easily downable because i dodge so much youl miss a good half of your attack before you can actualy land the hit (between that youl already be dead).

Stealth is utherly over rated

Faux the reason should be simple even to you. Its to provide a low cost fee interupt to sword/pistol build and allow better management of the initiative. In pvp this is gunna be epic, In pve it will likely help lvling up your thief and fighting trash mob more effectively (pve mobs auto attack are predictible and as such a well placed stun make them unable to score their hit, then you only need to use the flurry at the right time to block the next blow, I noticed a while ago that because flurry and the stun are poorly timed togueter there is a opening time between the two wich leaves you vulnerable to interupt, stuns, and what not. Separating the hits and making the stun a faster animation could actualy be a good idea)

well i both hit big numbers not use stealth and stay alive but i dont run dagger to begin with.

I run sword/pistol – Shortbow in an acrobatic build entirely based on dodge spamming to generate maximum might and gain constant vigor 25 20 0 25 0 so i can even come to therm with good sword/dagger-greatsword rangers when it comes to dodging everything like crazy (think we dodged each other for about 5 minute in a spvp match it was funny).

healing roll, roll for initiave, condition cure signet, assasination signet, thieve guild

As in how to score big number kill people and run a thief build WITHOUT stealth in pvp and still be ultra successful.

Dagger backstabs is for scaredy cats just run it sword in the lovely ’’fancer’’ style

Building a weaponset that is only good for PvE (and not even the best there) makes no sense.

Do you use S/P in PvE and WvW? If not then listen to the people that main it. It really is fine as it is right now.

sword pistol is wonderfull right now.. However id like to remind you that separating the stun and the flurry might not be as much of a nerf as you might think and thus for 3 reason

1. well still be able to chain the two move togueter even if they are separated. and prety much at the same speed
2. Pistol whip will now proc an easy low cost interupt wich you can pull in for nearly nothing!
3. Youl now be able to place your flurry at the right moment (like when the target is webed by a venom), so better damage overall for every thief in pvp and better initiative management.

In the end id say its not a nerf but rather a buff

1. Lootbag (wvw lootbag shouldnt move)
2. Drug dealer (use a lot of poison i wonder what he smoked)
3. Illusionist (god we disapear so often and spend much time invisible we must all be lvl 100 grandmaster of the illusion school XD)
4. Jesus (because every thief that gets spoted will nearly instantly be crucified by every player in the vicinity, also because we are the martyr of gw2 along with ranger and that every time we get nerfed we somehow manage to ’’ressurect’’ the class)

Best part of balancing patch:

Reduce healing signet passive of 8%
reduce zerk profession dps output of 10%

Makes me think….

Im disapointed… i expected them to reduce it by a good 25% at least (zerk)

Arah could give us high incentive to actualy be ranger runned.. Give us back… the pheonix as a end game content reward

Note about the phoenix:
Phoenix in guild wars 1 was of the bird subgroup species. Bird were specialist of the use of ‘’piercing damage’’ and could be obtained via 2 way. The black phoenix was waiting for the player in the vanity zone after killing shiro in faction while the rainbow pheonix could only be obtained via a lot of pvp token or via achievement system (aka rank 10 popularity wich was obtained by completing 10 achievement to the max)

Both pet held prestige and in some case could even be considered ’’superior’’ to the other pet because rainbow nix actualy was so large it would litteraly do a vision block in pvp if it didnt actualy count as a body block. I would easily see the pheonix as a reward for completing arah for tokens (you buy the nix and then the tamable pet starts to appear in your hall of monuments just like it did before)

clearly a lovely ability the pheonix could have is either blaze (lots of burn) or ressurection (revive a party member)
