Nah lol that’s one of the things wrong with the world today. People sugarcoat everything so that no one gets their feelings hurt lol but some people just need to hear blunt and obvious truth, and the truth is there is a portion of the player base (a very vocal portion at that) who act that way

When these guys (Anet) see a complaint, they delete it. I guess they figure if no one can see that many people are upset, they can get away with not acknowledging the short comings of this “full size expansion”. Im doing nothing wrong here. Im expressing my opinions.

They didn’t delete the hero point topic. Kinda blows that theory outta the water.

Just go to meta critics.com for the overall hot rating. It’s like 75 or something.

Wasn’t that the one where a lot of people spammed zero ratings because they were mad about the 400 points for the elite? If so, that score was artificially dragged down and now is meaningless.

First people who were kittened over elite cost went and gave 0’s, then people who thought elites were fine went there and gave it 10’s. The meta critic review is pretty funny because it’s just an extension of an internal battle that was being fought, and very little to do with a balanced review.

We know good reviews are paid off.

If he was paid off, he must not have been paid that much. he gave it an 85 as of one week past release date. I’d think if he was working for Anet it would at least be in the low 90’s.

Refund cause bugs and balancing after go Live

OP " I think because of all the bugs and balancing issues after go Live every HoT buyer shall get 10 dollars back. Be it in money or gems."

Umm….

1. Games on this massive scale WILL have bugs at release.
2. If you mean profession balancing, that is something which is always watched. Not just at release.
3. Anet appears to be resolving major complaint issues in a timely manner.
4. Refund $10 really? Where did you come up with that arbitrary number? You can
have all your money refunded if you want.
5. I’ve seldom seen mmo game maps with more thought, diversity, complexity, and beauty put into them, than this new content.
6. Yes the politics of a company acting like everything is dandy even when there’s a topic with 3k posts and 65k views that prove otherwise is b.s., but w/e. In the end they actually did acknowledge customers had a reasonable expectation that hadn’t been met and made a fair compromise.
7. If they did refund $10 to everyone what do you think the response at large would be? “Anet knows they released a dud, don’t buy it”

I’ve played some real stinkers over the yrs, and not one of those companies ever gave me $10 back off my purchase.

HoT Waypoints - Decontest them

Hey.

I have no problem with how few WP’s there are. I have no problem with where they are.

I have a major issue with how whenever there is an event you can’t get to it with out running most of the map because it’s contested and most of the other ones are as well. It’s very frustrating and a bad design that promotes NOT doing events, and needs to be changed please.

I have no problem with anything else. Just the nearly always contested WP’s

There have been times where literally all the wp’s were contested except the intro one in VB.

They need contested wp’s so people can’t just walk a few feet and be back in the fight, but perhaps event timing or other factors aren’t quite right yet.

HoT seems more a DLC than true Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I remember when the first guild wars Nightfall expansion came out we got a whole new continent to explore and quest (ELONA) which had 4 regions with multiple sub-regions.
We got new PVP environments, (2) new classes to play and race. A true expansion.

For the cost of the vastness of guildwars 2 we bought HoT. Which included one new class, no new race, for PVP there is supposed to be the new Battle of Champion’s Dusk don’t know much about it if that’s live for all to play yet or not.

In guild wars 1 Maguuma was huge with places like bloodstone fen and reed bog, we only got 3 sub-regions in maguuma, are more regions to unlock in soon weeks to come?

I just feel shortchanged

I disagree with this as a small dlc. I’m feeling overwhelmed with the amount of new content within the new maps (overwhelmed in a good way).

With all the other maps in tyria everything was pretty much straightforward and simply a matter of running from point A to B. In the new maps there’s a huge amount of depth; things don’t feel linear.

NPC mounts? Are you kidding?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I like that some npc’s have mounts. Adds variety.

Having played other mmo’s that allow players to have mounts, I think it would a move in a bad direction. First player’s want mounts, then they want faster mounts, then they want flying mounts; then no ones on the ground anymore or traveling so quickly we’re not connected to the environment anymore.

gw2 has wp’s and movement speed increase’s. Personally I think the current system is a good balance for getting around.

OP said “On top of that, showing mounted NPC’s is just salt in the wound for players who want mounts (and I mean functional mounts, not that magic carpet trash.).” – So the real argument isn’t even rp, it’s either a matter of taste on anet’s part or op just wants to move faster.

Yep . You’re paying for the newness. Unfortunately it’ll take some time for the market to stabilize before a reasonably accurate long term cost can be established. Good news is that it’s a really good time to farm and sell.

But calling people criers, whiners, babies, terrible casuals , or w/e else- without having a reasoned argument as to why we blew up everything that’s descent and pure doesn’t really help your cause.

ANet might've overreacted?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

leftyboy.9358

If you want less challenge tyria has about 25 maps already for ya.

Keep in mind that all this new content is a payed expansion, wouldn’t be an issue if it was added in the core game like SW was for example.

Everyone payed the money for the expansion, not just a certain group of people. And you can’t blame them for that, the expansion was never advertised to be challenging in it’s entirety, just that it will have challenging content.

To put it in a different way, now that the general consensus is that HoT is a little challenging, do you think casual players will buy it? And if not, are there enough casual players around to hurt ANet income on the long run, or at least not reaping the full monetary benefits of what they could have?
Because ANet’s profits affects all the players and all the game.

Ya I don’t know what to say I guess. It’s challenging for me without being unbearable, but I’ll respect that for some people it may be over that line. I’ve played a few mmo’s over the years and normally the world combat is so easy, it’s a snooze fest. After awhile if it’s all easy I just get bored, but that’s just my take on it.

ANet might've overreacted?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I was slightly alarmed to see the recent ANet HP announcement say that they are very happy with the difficulty level of HoT. I can’t help but think they have lost touch with their core audience. I’ve recently left another game where the devs listened to the vocal minority who said they wanted it harder. It stopped being fun for me, and for others, so that game now has fewer players and might struggle to survive.

Casual players are the bread and butter of these games which means providing a huge quantity of relatively easy content. I don’t think the expansion can be a commercial success if it only targets hardcore players so, yes, I think it will get nerfed sooner or later. Open world stuff should not be a struggle for normal players with average kit. But it’s hard to ask those players what they want because most of them will never come to the forum.

Those HoT maps are big. There is plenty of room to accommodate players of all skill levels. Maybe Anet need to learn from GW1 and have a hard mode version of each map for those who are “in it to win it” rather than ramping up the difficulty in the normal maps.

Put simply: some players don’t play for the challenge.

If I can watch t.v. , and play a game at the same time there’s something wrong with the challenge, but maybe that’s just me. If you want less challenge tyria has about 25 maps already for ya.

A number of factors right now. Halloween released same day as Hot, negative response to how hero points blocked people from playing elites for long periods of time, people grinding for Tyria mastery in Cof (also siverwastes seems to have a good share still), and apparently some mysterious server setting problem ; could all be reasons why maps not as full .

For a group that said anyone who wanted hero points reduced for elites were whining, crying, babies, and just plain bad…you sure have a lot of cry in you as well.

Tyria has not ended.

Exactly… nerfing stuff will make it trivial and it will turn into a grindfest… like people doing CoF p1 10000 times (i know the guy who claimed he did that, although i am not sure it is possible… ).

Also… being involved with YouTube and social media for so long i kind of know the numbers… and the numbers don’t look good at all…

I honestly don’t know where they are getting the money to continue, Heart of Thorns has to be big…

Metacritic score is already 7.7…

I guess people grab what they want to grab, because that’s not what I was saying, but to each their own. We apparently just differ widely on our definition of what good content is, but I do agree the CoF thing is pretty silly. Pretty sure Anet just didn’t foresee that loophole while making the expansion. I could see some sort of change to the dungeon in the future. They’ve pretty much given up on dungeons anyways.

Now that I can play on my elite without grinding the whole map, I must say I’m pretty jazzed. I’ve played necro for a long time and was really looking for a change.

My rating of the game has gone from about a 3/10 to 9/10 in the space of a day. The huge gate to elites kept me out of the game. I simply couldn’t stand that one grind. Couldn’t stand the idea of playing all the new content with a spec I had played for a year and a half.

Loving the new zones playing a new spec. Breathing new life in the game for me and I can now actually enjoy my surroundings.

edit: Didn’t even c the posting of Deviantshark when I wrote the post. Just goes to show there’s very different ideas of what makes the game fun. Deviant just fyi you still have all the same hero points you can grind on. Nothing taken away from you.

Ty for compromising Anet

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I was one of those who was battling for a “compromise” on elite hero point reduction. I haven’t often criticized anet but for a few things that I felt strongly about. It was good to see recognition in the article https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/heads-up-iteration-incoming/ that indicated there was room for us to expect a reduced elite unlock based on the betas and the fact that the hero system was released very late with no testing and certain expectations grew among many players that we would be able to access our elites much earlier than we ended up being able to.

After the update I logged on my necro that had full world complete and was able to attain my reaper in less than an hour, by looking at guides.

I consider this a good compromise, having not yet tested on toons with less than full old world complete, but I am glad Anet was willing to try and find a middle ground.

I have since been having a blast playing the new territories.

I don’t have an issue with the mastery system. I feel that that is a good compromise as well with those who wish for long term progression.

Just thought I’d take a couple minutes to acknowledge anet’s willingness to compromise between two very different views of what character progression is, with regards to this one “I feel” important aspect of the game.

I’m 10 points away from maxing a Tempest… now I feel like my effort has been trivialized.

If it helps, you’ll get those points back and have a 150-point head start on maxing the next elite spec that comes out (like players who did core Tyria completion had a 200-point head start with this crop).

YAY? I get to wait 3 more years for this magical head start that everyone’s going to complain about then too? Just feel like my effort is unrewarded…

you can have either empty maps and your grind fest or players in the maps and compromise on this one issue. you can’t have both.

Lots of passionate feedback and discussion in here on either side, and a friendly reminder that constructive feedback helps us make better games (please do keep it constructive!) We don’t always get every detail perfect the first time, but I like to think one of our strengths is we’re always open to and listening to feedback from our community and making good decisions based on that feedback.

Ultimately, we’re thrilled with the parts of HoT everyone is enjoying. Your passion is awesome, and it’s part of why we all love creating this game. In particular, in game we’ve seen a really positive reaction to the game from folks who are busy playing, which has been really cool to see.

While we never like to rush and make snap decisions, in particular with a game that’s basically been out less than three days; I think there are some fair points in here for us to discuss. Much like other feedback about HoT, we’ll be discussing this as well!

Thanks again!

So, how long should we expect to wait before you guys create something more reasonable? Three months? Six? Fallout 3 is releasing next month, and I’m sure the November releases can keep me occupied until you guys figure out how to not lie to us.

Read between the lines. It’s over yo. They don’t consider it any more of a concern than any other complaint, and they’re tired of us talking about it here( positive feedback by those “who are busy playing the game” ). So be it grinders you win. Have fun.

Possible Solution to the Hero Point Debacle

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I just came across a possible solution for the current kitten storm in Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged] that I thought was so brilliant I just had to repost it.

Personally, I am enjoying the hell out of the expansion. LOVE IT! I am also okay with how the points and all that work out.

That said, if you decide to listen to the many who do not like the ‘grind’, and you decide to make it easier, however that works, please consider the following:

-If you make it easier, then please make that easier path optional.
-For those who enjoy doing it the way it currently is, please create an achievement for it, for one character. Then, those who want to get stuff done fast so they can do whatever other stuff they want to do, can do just that. And those who want achievements, but have a bazillion alts, can do the achievement on a main or something, and do things quickly on their alts.
-And those of us in no hurry, cruising along enjoying the scenery and the current journey, they can do the intended path and enjoy playing the content the way we feel.
-This solves all issues and will not impact much or take a super amount of dev time.
*******************************************************

That is my suggestion. But, again, I’m having a blast, and personally have no need for change. This is just put out there for those who are super bothered by the ‘grind’ for whatever the reason.

Thanks.

A win win for everyone. Turn hero point elite unlock into an achievement for anyone who want’s to keep it that way and perhaps have an option available during the intro sequence in the jungle that’s a kind of choose your own adventure from an npc, which allows anyone who isn’t going for an account wide achieve to simply skip it and get elite unlock on that toon immediately.

-And those of us in no hurry, cruising along enjoying the scenery and the current journey, they can do the intended path and enjoy playing the content the way we feel.
-This solves all issues and will not impact much or take a super amount of dev time.

That is my suggestion. But, again, I’m having a blast, and personally have no need for change. This is just put out there for those who are super bothered by the ‘grind’ for whatever the reason.

Thanks.

Brilliant suggestion.

I have much better things to do with my time.

TLDR:

You have to pick one of these things to say.

Also, your solutions really don’t address the problem. Trinity does nothing to do with grind. In fact, it would probably exacerbate it the grind by making you wait for critical roles to start doing content.

Mounts historically involve grind.

Mounts in wow turned into flying mounts at which point everyone just stayed in the air and only came down directly on top of enemies or to kill someone.

I paid $100 to play new specs through new zones. Give me my elites to play and I’ll shut up along with everyone else who’s kittened over this. It’s really quite simple.

/Sniffle.

Every dev at Anet should be forced to sit down and watch that, then honestly say if they think the game meets those aspirations, if it even gets close…

Just watched the gw2 manifesto and you’re right. They have strayed from that path. Of particular interest to this topic is 1:20-1:40 where he very clearly and passionately describes their grind philosophy.
