So we got rid of world bug issues with installation of a fractal lv switcher within hub. Unfortunately at the same time now there’s a bug which doesn’t allow anyone to reque for more party members in LFG if someone leaves. Fractals are quickly becoming a trolls paradise with people leaving right b4 a boss or over halfway though, just for some griefing lol’s.

Achievement Chests I Feel Need Some Love

500ap doesn’t happen overnight. My contention is that the reward should justify the time involvement. For most tiers the rewards seem to be downright pathetic.

The concept of giving rewards marking milestones is a good one, but I feel Anet’s implementation leaves much to be desired. Mostly when I get Ap chests I’m annoyed more than anything.

Don’t mean to get on a soapbox but this has bothered me for awhile.

For something advertised as a milestone (not a game changer), the rewards seem substantive to me:

  • You get a laurel, worth 0.5g even with the loss of market value in T6 mats.
  • You get at least one gold and up to 30g.
  • Karma, MF, gold find, and XP are boosted permanently for all your characters.
  • You get skins that are free to re-use.
  • You get gems (every 10k).
  • You get free boosters.

What about that is “pathetic” and what implementation would you “much desire” that would make it so you aren’t “annoyed more than anything”?

Illconceived, I hear ya. I’m not asking for the moon, my main argument is that 500 ap between chests take a long time, and rewards should consistently reflect that. The Heavy achieve chests feel o.k to me , but the rest ehhh. Boosters are lol, gold = 30g very inconsistent, gems also=gold and low for the effort spent . Permanent boosts are good but 1 or 2% every 500ap isn’t exactly a thriller (cumulative over yrs maybe but…)

There’s so much armor you can buy in the game already and if they wanted to stick with that as the main prize for ap progression than it should be absolutely mindblowing. How many Zenith and Hellfire sets do you see in game? Not many. All I’m advocating for is consistency. I want to say to myself every 500 points, " Ya boy I did it and look what I get for the effort". Can you say that as of right now? If so maybe I’m the minority. In which case I’ll accept it. I wonder if I am the minority.

OP -"the new fractal daily system has made pugging a soul less, boring experience, only the fast easy fracts are being run, nobody talks much.. if at all.

the traditional hi, heya, howdy.. etc has more or less died..
i thought this expansion was about creating a more involved online community"

I was thinking that was weird also. Ironically people talked more in dungeons (which are arguably easier than at least higher lv. fractals) . People regularly at least said Hi at beginning and thanks at end of most dungeons.

Seems like the higher you go up on the fractal scale the less people talk, unless someone does something really stupid.

Continued Discussion on Build Templates

Now that HoT is in full swing, I personally think this would be a good time to focus on quality of life improvements after gross offending bugs are taken care of.

I would love to see something that apparently after many people asked anet; had considered but haven’t heard anything on since.

Build templates would be a huge quality of life improvement. I routinely switch specs many times throughout the day and only have one armor set to contend with. I can only imagine what min/max peeps go through. I personally find it a pain to switch specs 2 or 3 times in the space of a fractal, or zone I’m currently in just to meet the challenge the best way I can find.

It took Wow years and years to come up with something which is just plain logic (build templates). Anet’s philosophy has tried to improve on the failings of other mmo’s . I hope it doesn’t take them the same amount of time as wow to implement this quality of life improvment.

I know there has been concern towards build templates in pvp. People have felt it would give people an advantage if they could get ooc and switch spec real quick in wvw. I don’t play much wvw so I wouldn’t know if that’s game breaking or just something to get used to . In pve there’s no disadvantages I can see. Simply time saving implementation to get you going faster. Perhaps Anet could simply implement templates in pve, but I think I’d be at least worth trying in wvw and pve.

Would love to get peoples current view on this topic.

Dungeons are still there. They still give loot and tokens: but ya most people doing them I’d imagine are people new to gw2 and lvling to 80’s. You can still do them for fun if you want. Anet has said they really don’t want people considering dungeons part of core endgame now.

I just wish Fractal rewards weren’t so terrible. They wanted fractals to be the new 5 man engame but apparently nerfed the rewards. Kinda weird thinking. Guess we’ll see how it plays out in the next month or so

I said it in another topic and I’m really scared about what raids will offer and how expensive the legendary armors will be considering the horror that was Night Fury…

And no, having zerker gear doesn’t make you elitist- there just hasn’t been much call for any other armor up till this point, outside of pvp. Haven’t played in 75-100 frac yet so not sure if that starts getting into a more defensive situation.

So I’ed really like to start running fractals but it seems like every group in lfg is looking for experienced speed runners. Is this a server issue or does it not matter with the megaserver? Also I main a (reaper) necro. Is the whole no necro’s stigma still a thing?

The experienced only/speed runner thing hasn’t been my experience for the most part. There are so many people doing fractals now its ridiculous and most just advertise the level they’re on. I was able to pug no problem from 40-50 in the time it took to simply join grps and do the runs. Didn’t have a bunch of jerks in any of them. Low level fractals especially, people tend to be very forgiving of mistakes and just simply realize kitten may happen, although it usually doesn’t.

Reaper is absolutely awesome in fractals. So much control, aoe damage and different setups for suitability. If anyone has a problem with a reaper in a group, you can honestly say it’s their loss.

In a dev post it on reddit it was said that they use windows xp to test for stability. My question is, is it always the case that if it works on the oldest system does that necessarily mean it works on the newest?

I simply don't feel inclined to play HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I dunno exactly why; I used to love GW2 as one of my most fav. MMos ever. And I played a lot, so I have good basis to compare. But somehow I simply did not feel the magic when I returned. Just a few impressions.

First, all skills of all classes have been so completely reworked, that they are kinda beyond recognition. I have 9 max level chars, one in each class, I spent a lot of time to learn and improve, to have best gear and to know the best rotations in my chars, and here it was as if everything I worked to learn was taken away. I know classes are reworked now and then. I went through a lot of changes in my years in WOW. Or EQ2 or LOTRO. But I can not remember ever returning to a MMO and found all classes changed so much, that essentially all I had learned was out of the window.

Now when you start anew, that may not be such a big issue, you learn from scratch. But when you have 8 different max level chars, it is a wall of new learning which simply feel tiresome.

Second, the new WvW Borderlands. OMG. I used to love WvW so much, but this new BL WVW map is just… hilariously bad. It is a friggin maze! In the old map, you could navigate by just looking around. Here, so much walls block my view, so the only way to naviagate that uber complicated map is by opening the map ever 20 seconds. >.<

Finally, the new zone(s).

You know, normally, when I have had no expansions with new zones, there is a feeling like a new world opened to me. Here, I enter the new zone, and from the first plateau there is one small spiral way down. And then a split to a second small spiral way down. Everything feel so crammed and small, so railroaded. There is no feeling of a wide open area, but so many small walkways. And like EVERY SINGLE mob cripples, stuns and pushes me back. And since there are so many small tunnel-ways, I have to fight my way through ALL of them mobs. Added the fact that the classes were so reworked I hardly know anymore what I am doing, I found myself dying all the time! Some group of mini dinosaurs: dead. You cant walk into a corner to pull them there, you can’t walk around them, because the tunnel-like setup prevents that.

And finally the time gating and mastery gating. I think enough of that was written already, but that was like kinda the final nail in the coffin. It just stopped to feel like fun, and seriously began to feel like work. That’s NOT how a good expansion is done. With some good rework, it can one day be a passable expansion. But it will surely never be recognized as one of the great expansions of MMO history.

Apparently you didn’t play WoD in WoW. There was a total rework of the classes.

Also it sounds like you gave the new zones about 5 minutes b4 you decided it wouldn’t be right for you. That’s what’s called contempt prior to investigation and is sure to keep you in ingorance of the facts. There are open spaces in the HoT maps. You just didn’t get to them. Granted there aren’t all the same empty open spaces that you find in wow, so if you want vast panorama’s everywhere than maybe WoW is better for you.

In wow you had a constant never ending gear grind, here you have account bound masteries which add additional functionality to your character over time. I’ll take what gw2 did over wow any day of the week.

As far as every enemy crippling. First it’s not true (unless you consider in combat speed as a cripple in which case this game definitely isn’t for you). Second, every profession has ways to remove condi’s.

It sounds kinda like you wish this game stayed static over time. No mmo does that. They change over time and evolve. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but they never stay the same.

Send in bug reports, you can do it in game. Seems like not to many people are having this issue, and Arenanet is not going to be able to fix it unless they get good information and able to recreate what is happening in order to fix it. A friend of mine was having an issue shortly after the game released, he sent in a bug report though the game, and he ended up getting an email from Arenanet asking for more info from him, some log files, dxdiag, and then a patch came a little bit later and fixed the bug.

So do your due diligence in reporting it through the proper channels to help them get if fixed.

Every time the game crashes a crash report pop up appears asking to please hit yes to report so they can take a look at what happened. Either that’s total bs and the don’t get the info or idk what because I always hit yes. About 20 times now just since HoT release I’ve crashed.

Same here. Does not matter where I am, game crashes after 1-2 hours of gameplay. Its getting really annoying.

Most of the times it happens when I open trading post, then I see big blue/green colors, then after a few seconds it crashes.
This also happened once when I tried using cooking station.

Sometimes it seem to just crash randomly.

I’m running on a win 7 64 bit also. Crashing way more then b4 launch.

I was fighting Mordremoth in a d/c party since it’s been happening so much. Near the end of the fight of course I d/c’ed again. Immediately rejoined map and of course it was a different map and I couldn’t rejoin my party since slots aren’t reserved and map was full.

I guess I’ll just w8 a month or so to try again. Hopefully in that time they’ll figure something out It’s disheartening to spend that much time doing a meta only to crash right at the end and get no reward for all the time spent.

If you mouse over the fractal chests on the trading post in game they tell you what is inside.

Hey all, I’m kinda bummed about the dungeon gold nerf as me and my friends used to duo arah alot and sometimes sell the extra slots, But do you think dungeon selling was part of anets motivation to nerf the rewards? or is it something an economist would have to explain about the influx of gold entering the hands of players through grinding dungeons?

Me and my friends enjoyed arah alot, it was challenging and rewarding to duo or 3 man, Yet i find myself at a loss of things to do, because i’m not huge into running with the boss train zergs, and i’ve essentially grinded out everything i’ve needed as far as mastery points go in HoT. (to me) it was a depressing part of the update, although i do look forward to raiding. anyways, enough moaning, does anyone know what anet’s motivation was behind nerfing dungeons?

TLDR: dungeon rewards nerfed very sad.

The dungeons are still there if you want to play for fun. You still get tokens….so there’s that.

Anet didn’t like their dungeons. They’ve been trying to move away from them for some time. I don’t think arah was the only reason, but I’m sure they weren’t exited by people spending 8 hrs a day selling runs.

Ok, the fact that you can buy Shards of Glory and Memories of Battle on the TP is annoying already. I thought the thing about Precursor Crafting was that players instead of spending a lot of gold could just put a lot of effort in to the game and still being able to get a precursor. But not only does do you lose gold on finishing the precursor tiers (counting the costs of all materials needed atm it’s cheaper to jsut buy the precursor directly from TP.) it’s also still much easier for people who are willing to spend a lot of gold to get it much faster than people who actually wants to work for it. I can understand that some things which are needed for the precursor is on TP, like elonian leather for example, which is also something you need to craft other things. But to put shards of glory and memories on battle on TP is just totally unnecessary.

And now I’m even more annoyed since even the fractal ACHIEVEMENT chests can be sold/bought on/from the TP. I thought they wanted more people to do fractals, now you can get a skin without even having to enter the gate in LA. :S

And just a note, personally I think that it is much more encouraging to work for something I know everyone else that wants the same thing has to work for aswell, rather than knowing some people can just buy everything they need.

I’m not annoyed at the fractal weapon skins now being available on tp. I’m pretty jazzed acutally. I’m loving my new frac greatsword on my reaper. The irony is I wouldn’t have even known about it unless someone came on to forums with a gripe about it….so ty

Not everyone wants to spend a year trying for a particular weapon they want. Your complaint also seems to be directed at the people who are making money off of selling an item the don’t want or need. gg

With the changes to salvaging what’s still worth salvaging and what’s worth selling?

I feel like I get very little after I salvage the loot I used to after a boss kill.

I still salvage pretty much everything. I sell rares worth more than ecto+major rune+tp fees, on the tp. I vendor green salvaged runes. Exotics it’s case by case. Doing that I’m able to clear my bags quick and don’t need to hit vendor often.

For me it just comes down to more of a convenience thing. I’ve seen guides where people had all kinds of complicated strategies for getting the most out of every single peice of salvageable good. Seemed like it took more effort than it was worth, when i could instead be using that time out in the world, playing and earning.

It’s not inevitable. The player base seems to be deeply divided on this issue, hence the compromise to 250. That ensures that people who wanted 400 still have their sense of progression, and people who just wanted to play their new specs could do so within a short time as long as they had already explored Tyria. The outraged threads on this matter have mostly vanished now, so people are moving on.

This is nothing compared to the mastery system we as players encountered playing EverQuest. This system has A LOT less points to earn and the progress is earned across your whole account. People are allowed to have what, over 60 character slots in this game? Could you imagine the effect of having to level mastery on each and every one of them? If that were the case for even the 6 characters I have, some alts wouldn’t be getting their mastery leveled, plain and simple.

Yes I can imagine the effect of having soulbound mastery. I played the original grinder game WoW, where for yrs. everything was soulbound. Now that’s grind.

I agree with everything the OP said. With GW2 being free to download and play it’s headed down the F2P model, which ruins every game. No surprise really, ANet has close ties to NCsoft, who are behind the fall of great titles like Lineage 2, which I played for 7 long years.

With F2P you have to pay for everything in the game. Games become infested with bots (RMT) and hackers and it all goes straight down to hell.

To think of it, they made it free to download and play, so we paid the same price as before for 3 maps, 5 pets, a few armours/weapons and one additional story.

Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong?

Yes, you are the only one who thinks this is wrong. This games “ftp” has many restrictions. Not all FtP=pay to win either. It would be more apt to say that FtP in gw2 is more of a trial that doesn’t have to end. Check this page.

People want an xpac to be as big as the original game? That’s not how it works, especially in an MMO.

funny but when i bought Burning Crusade i got a ton of new armours as random world drops, several new instances, all with new armour skins and weapon skins and a massive new continent. in total there were probably around 30 new armour sets, 5 instances and 3 raids on release, oh and 2 new races.

THAT is what i expect from a £30 expansion.

Ok so you wanna compare wow as the standard bearer for what defines good mmo world play in a new expansion. Yes wow maps had more space, they also had more empty space. They also had enemies that you could kill in a couple hits after you moved onto the next area. They are also the supreme leaders in never ending gear grind. They also introduced flying mounts, insuring the only way players would come down was to kill someone or land on top of a mob pack.

If you want to compare end game content of wow as the standard bearer of end game content I’d say wow had dungeons that you level’d out of almost as soon as you leveled in. I’d say pvp was about as unfair as it could possibly be, because inevitably in regular matches you’d have one guy maxed out on the latest gear and a bunch of people paying their dues by dying , for the privilege of eventually being able to compete themselves. I’d say all and all , in wow you had Raids and Rated bg’s for endgame, and a world of mind numbing easy kills in the rest of the vast expansion world you wish to compare to HoT.

If you want to compare the shinies, I’d say HoT just released and dishing out a meal at a time is more managable, than an all u can eat buffet of say 30 new mounts released all at once , ensuring you were acutely aware of what you’d be spending the next six months doing.

edit: oh and btw, you said you expected more for your 30 euro. Wow had an upfront cost, a monthly cost, and you better make sure your server never died because they charged like 20 bucks per toon to switch to a different one.

Mount for GW2: The Dead Horse. It does nothing, cannot move, and comes with a stick to beat in the pathetic hope it will. In fact, it’s dead, rotting, and makes every NPC around you shun you meaning that you cannot buy, sell, craft, or enter any town or city, ever again. Also, it makes you attackable by everyone in WvW, you cannot join PvP teams, etc.

Why? Because you are sick and disturbed enough to insist on riding a dead horse and beating it.

The “Dead Horse” being flogged is giving any credence to old Dev statements re what will not be in game.

When mounts come, not IF, a good number of those going purple with rage at the mention of mounts will be enthusiastically grinding for them or buying gem cards.

If everyone in the world could be rich then everyone would be rich, but it wouldn’t be good for the world. Some things are just better left out.

No rage, have just seen what happens with mounts in other mmo’s. If you want cosmetic mounts, i say go for it. Anet give um thousands to choose from. talk about a gold/gem sink. Problem is that many who want mounts, want mounts with benefits (speed). And this game isn’t set up for speeds in excess of what we currently have.

NPC mounts? Are you kidding?

what stats do you have to suggest that a large number of players will join the game if mounts become available?

Who needs facts when you can have belief. And belief doesn’t tell you you’re wrong.

Just a thought: if, hypothetically, we would go after Kralkatorrik next… And we’d be able to explore the vast area’s of the Crystal Desert, why not allow us to unlock Mounts in that area as we can unlock Gliding in the Jungle?

A desert has a lot more empty, open spaces. It just makes sense! I’d love to see HUGE maps, with large gaps between content heavy hot-spots. A city here, an oasis there, a giant cavern in that angle… It gives us another angle of exploring, horizontal exploring, instead of vertical. I would love this concept a lot more than the current jungle one.

What do you think?

Yep , here we go. Anet gave us gliding so now that the flood gates are open give us mounts next. Then faster mounts. Then flying mounts. Then no ones on the ground anymore.

If you believe my thinking on that progression is wrong, just look at other popular mmo’s that introduced mounts.

.
6. Yes the politics of a company acting like everything is dandy even when there’s a topic with 3k posts and 65k views that prove otherwise is b.s., but w/e. In the end they actually did acknowledge customers had a reasonable expectation that hadn’t been met and made a fair compromise.

I’m kinda confused about this, 3k posts vs. 7 million players total? Do you honestly think they should give a flying kitten about 3k whiny children when there are millions of people happily enjoying the game? I mean, clearly they took it as an indication that they did not make clear what to expect, and I think they made a reasonable decision in the end, but I also think you’re guilty of doing what all those 3k did, which is blowing it way out of proportion to make it seem like a lot more people care than actually do.

Come up with a real argument instead of whining and crying people next time, if you want to be taken seriously. Apparently Anet did care about 3k “losers” who posted btw. Also there’s a flaw in your logic. You assume only 3k were unhappy because 3k posted and you assume that millions were happy with hero point system based on what , an in depth census that you took?

In addition I also find it funny that in your post you agree that the hero point compromise was reasonable, but at the same time, the people who made it happen are wrong.

Well, you can always press “F” to steal their mount, just beware of the cops.

you get 2 stars for stealing an npc’s mount. If you run over innocent players on your rampage you get bumped to 5 stars and the remnants of the pact fleet hunt you down for war crimes, in their choppers.
